Learn more@WhatsApp.com here's your afternoon TNB Tech Minute for Wednesday, October 1st. I'm Julie Chang for the Wall Street Journal. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is handing off some responsibilities so he can focus on artificial intelligence. Nadella said in a note to employees today that Judson Altov, who'd been leading the company's global sales organization, has been promoted to helm the company's commercial business. He'll also lead the company's new commercial leadership team and oversee marketing. The shift in responsibilities allows Nadella to focus on Microsoft's technical work, especially involving AI. Nadella told employees that Microsoft's success will depend on equipping customers with new AI capabilities. Afghanistan is experiencing a nationwide communications blackout. Human rights groups and a top United nations official for the country said the Taliban government has ordered a suspension of Internet and mobile ph, disrupting critical health, financial and humanitarian operations. Though the Taliban has denied imposing a total blackout, it comes weeks after the country was hit by a powerful earthquake that killed and injured several thousand people. And the US government is taking a 5% stake in Lithium Americas and a 5% stake in the Canadian mining company's Nevada mining project. That's according to the Energy Department. Lithium is used in electric vehicle batteries, smartphones and renewable energy storage. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said on Bloomberg Television that the investment will help reduce China's dominance in the lithium market and that the equity stake was needed to help make the mine project viable after a drop in the metal's price. And that's it for your TNB Tech minutes for today. We'll have another quick tech update in the morning.
