Here'S your morning TNB Tech Minute for Monday, October 13th. I'm Zoe Culkin for the Wall Street Journal. OpenAI and Broadcom are partnering up to develop and deploy 10 gigawatts of custom AI chips and computing systems over the next four years, a deal aimed at satisfying some of the AI startup's growing computing needs. The companies will co develop the chips and Broadcom will deploy them starting in the second half of 2026. The companies didn't disclose financial terms, but people familiar with the matter said the agreement will be worth billions of dollars. The Dutch government has taken control of a Netherlands based chip maker, Nexperia, from its Chinese owner, Wingtech Technology. The unusual move reflects the growing tensions over control of materials that are crucial to various technologies, from cars to artificial intelligence. The Dutch Economic Affairs Ministry said the decision was driven by signals of governance shortcomings and actions within the company, but declined to comment on what those shortcomings and actions were. Wingtech called the move an excessive intervention based on geopolitical bias, and LG Electronics guided for quarterly operating profit to fall by 8.4%, a smaller decline than market consensus, largely due to solid performance by its key affiliates amid difficult business conditions like higher tariffs and a slow recovery in global demand. The company said its home appliance segment maintained its competitiveness while its vehicle component segment achieved record profitability. Revenue is expected to have fallen 1.4%, also beating analysts expectations. Shares of the company rose 2% after the guidance, cutting its year to date losses below 4%. That's your TNV Tech Minute.
