Explains, Personally, I'm most excited about the potential applications we don't know yet. It's very exciting to think about where we all sat at the dawn of classical computation and not to ever imagine where we are today. But we know that quantum computers are poised to accelerate time and cost efficiencies in really important fields like drug development, materials discovery, optimization, things that impact all industries.

Here's your morning TNB Tech minute for Friday, December 19th. I'm Julie Chang for the Wall Street Journal. OpenAI is seeking to raise up to $100 billion in a new fundraising round, potentially valuing the company at as much as $830 billion. That's according to people familiar with the matter. This massive injection of capital is needed for the company to finance its ambitious growth plans, build its AI models and stay competitive in a rapidly changing market. OpenAI aims to complete the round by the end of the first quarter at the earliest. It's unclear whether there will be sufficient investor demand to reach the goal. News Corp. Owner of the Journal, has a content licensing partnership with OpenAI. TikTok parent ByteDance has formalized agreements with investors to form a new U.S. joint venture. That's according to a company memo viewed by the Journal. The company has been working to complete a deal to prevent the app from being banned in the US over national security concerns. TikTok's CEO said the joint venture will be 50% held by a consortium of new investors, including Oracle, private equity firm Silver Lake and Investment Fund. The other half will be held by affiliates of certain investors of Chinese owned ByteDance and by ByteDance, per the memo. The deal marks the official next step in the process, with a closing date targeted for January 22, 2026. And meta platforms is developing a new image and video focused AI model codenamed Mango. It's being developed alongside its next text based large language model, dubbed Avocado. Meta's chief AI officer talked about the models in an internal company Q and A yesterday with the company's chief product officer, according to people who heard the remarks. The models are expected to be released in the first half of next year. And that's your TMB Tech Minute. We'll be back this afternoon with more.
