Tesla has reported a drop in profit for the third quarter. Net income fell 37% even as shoppers rushed to buy electric vehicles before a $7,500 federal tax credit expired last month. Tesla's total revenue grew 12% after the burst in sales, but it reported a net income of $1.4 billion, down from $2.2 billion a year earlier. The results come ahead of Tesla's Nov. 6 annual meeting, when shareholders will vote on a new pay package for CEO Elon Musk that's potentially $1 trillion over 10 years. Parents of a 16 year old who committed suicide after using OpenAI's ChatGPT have amended their lawsuit against the company. They now allege that OpenAI twice loosened ChatGPT's rules on discussing suicide In August, Adam Rain's parents sued OpenAI for the wrongful death of their son, who took his own life using a method the chatbot advised him on Wednesday's amended lawsuit claims OpenAI's changes to its model specifications weakened suicide protections for users in the year before as part of a broader effort to increase user engagement. OpenAI said strong protections for minors is a top priority, and a company spokeswoman said it has safeguards in place such as surfacing crisis hotlines, rerouting sensitive conversations to safer models and nudging for breaks during long sessions. News Corp. Owner of the Wall Street Journal, has a content licensing partnership with OpenAI, and Meta is cutting about 600 jobs in its AI division. That's according to an internal memo that was viewed by the Wall Street Journal and a person familiar with the matter. The job cuts will affect the company's teams focused on AI products, infrastructure and long term AI research. But TBD Lab, the new team that houses most of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's multimillion dollar hires, won't be touched. Meta's chief AI officer said most of the affected employees will be redeployed to other jobs at the company where their AI expertise could be valuable. And that's it for your TNB Tech minutes.
