Danny Lewis
here's your afternoon TNB Tech minute for Thursday, March 3rd. I'm Danny Lewis for the Wall Street Journal. Venture capitalist firms Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz are co leading a multi billion dollar investment in defense tech startup Anduril Industries, doubling its valuation to $60 billion. People familiar with the matter say existing investors Lux Capital and Founders Fund also plan to participate. An Anduril spokesperson declined to comment. The California based company, founded by tech billionaire Palmer Luckey, builds artificial intelligence powered hardware and software for autonomous weaponry and works closely with the US Government on autonomous drones. Speaking of AI, a new research report by Goldman Sachs is predicting the technology will eventually displace 11 million jobs, about 6% of the U.S. workforce. The analysis of last quarter's results and management commentary also found that Companies that discussed AI's impact on jobs in the fourth quarter cut their job openings by 12% in 2025, compared with 8% for all companies. Also, we exclusively report that Verizon has been pushing to reduce costs across the company, including discussions about pulling back or even exiting its high profile NFL sponsorship deal. People familiar with the matter say the talks were part of an effort to scrutinize hundreds of millions of dollars in spending on sports and music sponsorships. They say discussions about revising the NFL agreement have cooled as amending the contract isn't easy and exiting the deal would likely include paying a penalty fee. A Verizon spokesman says withdrawing from the NFL partnership was not a goal or plan. And that's it for your T and B Tech minutes. We'll have another quick tech update in the morning.
