Now, here's your afternoon TNB Tech Minute for Tuesday, February 3rd. I'm Julie Chang for the Wall Street Journal. Walmart has hit a market capitalization of $1 trillion, becoming the first traditional retailer to reach this milestone. Walmart's stock has surged in recent months, fueled in part by Wall Street's enthusiasm for growth in the company's online business as well as its investments in automation and AI. Sales also grew as more shoppers turned to Walmart for low prices, fast delivery and broad selection. Most of the 11 companies that at any point reached a $1 trillion valuation are technology focused. Shares of European legal publishing companies fell sharply today after Anthropic released new AI tools. Anthropic added new functions for users of its cowork assistant on GitHub. The company said the new tools can automate legal tasks such as contract reviews, compliance workflows and legal briefings. London listed Relics, which provides AI tools for the legal sector, including Lexis AI software, saw its shares drop about 15%. And Vaulter's Kluver, which provides software products for the legal industry, is down over 12%. And while shares of European legal publishers were the first to drop following news of Anthropic's new AI tools, the sell off quickly expanded to market data heavyweights. S and P Global was on pace for its largest percent decrease since March 2020. Its stock was recently down about 11%. Meanwhile, FactSet, a provider of financial information and analytics, was recently down 10. And that's it for your TMB tech minutes. We'll have another quick tech update in the morning.
