So obviously I read the blurb there of your intro. You're way more than that. That's just kind of the. The quick recap of, of what you kind of are known for, but give the audience a little more detail as to why you might work with creators or why you have such a passion for people who are, you know, on YouTube and in the different networks.

Christine Blosdale (3:10)

Yeah, it's, you know, it's. It started a long time ago and when I first kind of got into the business of creating, creating myself as well, I worked for America Online, and America Online was. You're too young probably to know this, but I mean, back in the day, it was only America Online. There was no TikTok, there was no Facebook, there was none of that, no YouTube. And so communicating to a very wide audience, I had to be. I had to specialize in that, like anybody from 8 to 80. Right. And so creating content that hit, that connected was something that I got really young. I got that experience. And then I moved into radio broadcasting. And again, I needed to create content, audio content this time, but content that connected with an audience that I would never see, that I would never hear from, but I knew was out there. And that's kind of like a creator of today. We might create videos for social media or for YouTube and we don't know really who's watching, who's seeing those things or who's reading our books. But we still need to get it out there, right? We need to communicate, connect. So I was really lucky to get started with AOL and then 20 years in broadcast radio and then after that going into coaching one on one with clients, specializing in what their personality matches to the content. So I have some clients that they're just terrified of being on video, and then I've got others who love it. And so we work with those folks and basically pull out their gems, their brilliance, their expert authority, and place them in the right arena so that they can communicate their message.

Dusty Porter (4:56)

I deal with a lot of people who maybe be a bit. They're a bit hesitant to put themselves out there, or they know something about a topic or they want to have a YouTube channel around this space, but they're a little bit resistant to that because they're. We all know the term the imposter syndrome. They feel like they're not worthy or they. Why would they put their voice out there when there's so many other voices in a very crowded space? What would you say to that person?

Christine Blosdale (5:24)

Oh, you are unique. There is only one you. You know, with all the stuff that's happening with AI, people are worried, and rightfully so, on something that their jobs are going to be taken or being replaced. But when it comes to the human connection, when it comes to the human experience, all of your experiences, all of your life lessons and all of that is in your noggin, right? It's in your brain. And that is something that is really, really important. What I like to do is I like to sit down with people and I'll do this usually in a discovery call is sit down and find out what that brilliance is. Find out what that expert authority ness is, and then we hone in on that. The imposter syndrome will happen to everybody. It happens sometimes a lot for some people. Sometimes it just happens once in a while. And it's usually when we need to stretch. And what I mean by that is when we need to do something that we're not comfortable with or that's new to us. If it's new and we've never done it before, we have that fear that, what if I mess it up? What will people think, right? Will they make fun of me? How will I look, how will I act? All those things and we compare ourselves to others, and that's the killer of creativity. I want creators to know that you don't want to compare yourself to somebody else because, number one, you're very unique and you're not like anybody else. Number two, you don't know what those quote unquote influencers, you don't know what their life is like. You don't know what's going on right in front of the camera. They might be, you know, fabulous and looking great and everything looks smooth and professional, but you don't know what's going on behind the scenes. So I just say, step into your greatness and be yourself right now. Too dusty. As we see, politics is crumbling, Hollywood is crumbling. The Kardashianism, perfectionist, all of that is crumbling. And people are really craving authenticity. They want someone real, someone that they can connect with. Not perfect. There's no such thing as perfect anyway. But they want connection to an authentic human being.

Dusty Porter (7:32)

Yeah, it's funny you say that. You don't know the chaos behind the camera. I completely agree. Having two kids and three on the way, I can look around, I can look around this office with Christmas right around the corner. And yes, it looks nice with the framing I have here on the camera. Camera, but man, there is chaos behind the camera. So I can completely relate to that. On your website, you're known obviously as the expert, authority coach. A bunch of things here I want to read off. It says that gets you the attention you deserve. And you say the problem on your website, you say you're doing all the work but not getting the recognition. Are you tired of feeling invisible? Watching less qualified people get booked and celebrated, struggling to explain your message? So basically, I could put in any creator that listens to this show and they're probably feeling all of these things. Maybe not exactly word for word, but they're feeling like their videos aren't getting watched, they're invisible or watching less qualified or so they think. Creators getting more views than they're getting or struggling to explain your message in a way that connects. All creators feel this way. Right. And so they're putting these videos out there, they're trying to get their voice heard. If I hired you, let's just say Bob or Cindy or Susie hires you as a creator and they're like, okay, all right, Christine, I'm really bought into this thing that you're selling about. Help me become the authority. Right. What would you tell them as far as, you know, where they are and where they want to be? What would that session look like?

Christine Blosdale (9:00)

First? It would be a sit down session, basically with that person and finding out what those gems are. I like to equate every single client that they sit on a throne in my world and they have a crown and my job is to sit there and find the gems that we can put in the crown so that you can proudly say, this is what I am, this is who I am, this is what I. A lot of times it's because people who are creators or who have businesses, they're not really secure and sure on their branding on who they are. You ask somebody and you say, so what is it that you do? Oh, I do everything. I do a little bit of this, I do a little bit of that. All this stuff. Right. And we want to kind of hone in. The brand is you and the personality is you. We tend to, instead of just buying a particular product we tend to buy from people, from characters, from personalities, right. So we want to communicate what that personality is. It might be a cranky, you know, a cranky son of a gun. Well, you might be, even with that crankiness, you might become a huge hit on something like on social media, like on TikTok or on YouTube and utilizing that crankiness, Right. So we need to hone in on what that is. And honing in on your brand, your branding, that just takes a little bit of time. With me, I sit down, we figure it out and then we work on the different types of content that are going to make you stand out. Also, I believe that we don't live in a silo. I think it's really important to do things that are gonna get your, get the attention of others and bring them into your, into your world. So if you are on YouTube and you wanna bring people into that world, what are you doing on the day to day to bring people to your channel, to your pieces of content? And if you're doing, you know, the beautiful thing about your content, video content, you can share it all over. Video content can go into YouTube shorts, can go into Facebook reels, Instagram reels. You've got, of course, TikTok and even LinkedIn is loving to get, you know, more video content now. So bring your audience to where you want to take them, but you also need to have that personality come out. So branding is really important for that.

Dusty Porter (11:12)

So I want to kind of follow up on that. You speak on branding and that's probably where the clients that I work with every week, that's one of the most common struggles is they're really good on camera sometimes, they're really good with packaging sometimes. But the thing that they're really not so good at is the branding aspect of continuity, of, okay, we're trying to grow this thing, but you're like throwing a whole bunch of stuff at the wall to see what sticks. And so there's no continuity, there's no branding. People don't know what you stand for. You mentioned authenticity at the top of the show. So speak about branding in general. What, what advice can you give the creator listening to this on trying to brand a channel, knowing that these people listening are going to be in all different types of niches, right? They, somebody could be talking about crafting. The next person will be a technologist. The next person maybe is in high rocks, athletic, whatever it may be, knowing they're so different. But branding kind of encompasses everything, doesn't it?

Christine Blosdale (12:09)

Well, it's a It's a way for people. It's a way to stick in people's minds, right? So if you, you know, Christine Blasdale. Okay, great. If people know me from radio or if they've ever read my books, then when you say that name, Christine Blosdale, then they'll go, oh, yeah, I. I know the name. I don't know what it is that she does. I haven't a clue. So that's why I've branded myself as the expert authority coach. Now, for the longest time, I was the media coach and all these different things. I was trying to find my brand. And when I honed in on the expert authority coach, it was exactly what it was that I did. So here's an example. I have a amazing client, very smart woman, who's. She helps people with phobias overcome phobias. She helps them also with sleep, for people who are struggling with sleep issues. But she really is someone who is a expert on the brain and how it functions, right? So we weren't gonna just call her Helen, you know, the brain lady. We wanted to have something that people could remember. So when she's doing her videos and she's. She's an elderly Australian woman and she's someone who's not super comfortable being in video, but she needs to get the message across because she. She has programs, she has books, she has all these different things she wants people to explore, right? So what we did is we sat down and we do this in a. We do this in a discovery call. We can do this in a regular session. We sat down and we were figuring out what her brand should be. So what we did is, yes, her name is attached to her brand, but it's the Brain Coach who Cares. Now, it tells you a lot. That title tells you a lot. You know, that she's somebody that obviously knows a lot about the brain, the Brain Coach who cares. But you also know that she's a caring, empathic, lovingly, wonderful person, right? She's not just some science scientist, some nerdy brainiac, right? So it's really important to come up with something that connects with you, that you can own, that you can hang your hat on. Go, yeah, that's me. And it's something that also that people can remember. They may not remember her name, but they'll remember, ah, yeah, the brain Coach who cares. So that's what we do. And that's the magic, because that after you've got your. Your title, then you can trademark it. If you TM it, you trademark it. Like I've done with expert authority coach, it helps get attention. That little TM tells people that you're a professional, tells people that you are serious about what you do.

Dusty Porter (14:36)

In YouTube education, we oftentimes talk about niching down, and it's kind of what you're referring to as far as just figuring out who you are, who you're speaking to. And then you just mentioned with branding, kind of know your tagline, know who you are when it comes to niching down and someone gets on a call with you. You mentioned the elderly lady that is is your client, and you said that, you know, she wasn't that comfortable on camera. What do you tell people that knowing that, hey, if we're trying to build a brand, you're trying to become an authority in something. If I'm trying to be one of the top YouTube experts and leaders in my space, and I'm not doing these podcasts and I'm not on social media and I'm not emailing people back and doing these coaching calls and creating a mastermind, these things don't matter. I have no. I have no ground to stand on. And so how do you build. So two part question number one, how do you get there, build their confidence up to get on camera, to get in front of a microphone? And part two, when, when all of that is said, how do you build authority from nothing?

Christine Blosdale (15:37)

Not necessarily from nothing, but from what you imagined to be nothing. Yes.

Christine Blosdale (15:42)

Okay, first of all, I'll answer the second question first a little bit.

Dusty Porter (15:45)

Yes.

Christine Blosdale (15:46)

Because we live in a silo. A lot of times we only see the world through our own little eyes, right. And we don't understand the big picture. We don't see the things that maybe the world sees or someone like me, I am somebody who has huge attention to detail. I'm that person that if I'm in a restaurant and the picture is just a little bit off on the wall, I'm the one who stops eating, gets up and moves it. Okay? So I pay attention to detail. So it might even be. You might have some amazing things that you don't even realize are that amazing. I do, because I know as a producer, I know what to look for for a guest. Right. On a show. I know what gems. I'm like, oh, that person is interesting. I want to talk to them. So first of all, realize that you just may not see all of the greatness that you have. Okay. And then going back to the first one, what I do, especially folks who are not confident on camera, who are have imposter syndrome. We sit down and we really dissect it. And I say this, it's actually not about you. It's not about you, Dusty. It's about the people that you claim you want to help. When you focus on the people that you want to help or you want to serve, you want to make their lives better. When you focus on them and not you and how you look, how old you are, how you come across on camera, you focus on the client or the audience, then it changes things because then the focus goes on them. And you need to show up. If you didn't do all of these webinars and show up on video, Dusty, and didn't answer emails, think about all the people that would not have gotten the wisest. You know, the words that you have that have. Wouldn't hear the lessons, the important stuff that you can share with them so that they can journey down that land of being a creator on YouTube, but without all those pitfalls, right? So they're listening to you for advice. But if you were, you were insecure and you thought I shouldn't show up because people might think I'm, you know, I'm not. I'm not as handsome as I should be, or the lighting is wrong, you know what? Then those people are not going to get your gifts, and you need to show up for them. So that's what we do. We focus on the audience and the end result. And here's another thing, too, folks. You don't. You never know who's watching you. You never know who's watching your videos. You never know who's reading your books, your posts. I, for years, was, you know, I wrote for America Online. I lived in a vacuum. I didn't know who was really, you know, reading my content. And then one day I got to meet Lily Tomlin, who is a. I mean. I mean, I'm a huge fan of Lily Tomlin. I think she's brilliant. And when I got to meet her and her partner Jane, they said, you know, like, who are you? And I told them who I was, and they said, oh, my God, we read you all the time. We read your column all the time, and we think you're so funny. Now. That was a freak thing that I met her, that she had all of that stuff, but you never know. So also, if you create content, create content for, say, Lily Tomlin, right? Create the content as if you're the most amazing person who you think is super amazing that you look up to. Imagine them watching your videos, whoever it is, I don't care if it's Oprah or, or, you know, someone who's, who's even passed. I don't care. But someone who you admire, imagine them watching your content and then you also upskill a little bit, and you maybe, maybe you, you work a little bit harder on it.

Dusty Porter (19:22)

You talk about a lot, finding your uniqueness and in your terminology, finding the gems that kind of make you different. Is there a exercise that creators can do or is there something that they can do? You know, obviously hiring you and working with people like you, they would find that along with the, the process. But if they're just in the beginning phases or if they're like, man, I'm not getting anywhere. And I do feel like I know who I want to speak with, but I don't know what makes me different. I don't know what would help my voice stand out in midst of such large, crowded spaces that a lot of us are competing in on YouTube. What would you say to that person? How can they find that? Is there something they can do easily?

Christine Blosdale (20:04)

Well, definitely they can reach out to me and book a free discovery call. That's the first, easiest way. It's 30 minutes. We sit down, I record it for them so they have that video that they can watch. And we kind of go over a little bit of their background. And in 30 minutes, you'd be surprised at how much we can unpack. And many people after the 30 minutes, they go, I've got more now to go on than I have working with people for weeks and weeks and weeks. So that's one thing. And they can book that free discovery call with me at my website, which is expertauthoritycoach.com if they want to directly book that in and see me tomorrow, they can just go to chatwithchristineb.com, but I'll give you those links Dusty, so you have them. If you don't have that ability and you're just sort of trying to figure things out, what I encourage you to do is, you know, Canva, most everybody has hopefully used Canva. In Canva, you can create a design, and the design would be press kit or media kit. This is a great exercise. And this is one thing that I do with my clients once I have them in my programs. And creating a media kit is simply, you're going to get a really great picture of yourself, something that you're proud of, that you like. Okay, you're going to put that picture in that media kit design on Canva. Then you're going to put your name, then you're going to put who you are, what you do, right? Are you the, you know, the vegetarian rock star? Are you, you know, Dusty Porter, the YouTube guy, right, whatever your title is. And don't worry, nobody's going to see this. This is just for you. Then you're going to put almost like a mini bio. You're going to say the things, who you are, right? What you've done, what you've accomplished. As long as it relates to being a content creator, you want to list it in there and then take some other pictures of you doing your craft, of you doing maybe behind the scenes. If you're doing YouTube Lives, then maybe have an image, have somebody take a photo of you while you're doing a live. And that media kit, you're going to print it. If you can print it, I suggest you print it and you put it right next to your computer so you see it every single day and you're reminded every single day. Oh, that's right. I'm Christine Blasdell. I'm the expert authority coach and I've specialized in all these things. So then that way you're constantly being reminded of how good you are and what you've accomplished. When we don't have that, when that's in a drawer and we're floating and sometimes we feel off, if we have a bad day, we forget who we are. We forget all of the good things that we've accomplished. So that's one exercise that actually really works for a lot of my clients, is that they have that to look at right there. I still have mine. I know who I am, but I still have my media kit right there. I'm always looking at it.

Dusty Porter (23:00)

So check that out if you haven't already. And now back to the show. I love that. Yeah. Once you define who you are and who you're speaking to, it's. It's a game changer. Yeah, by far. I completely agree with that. Um, I want to transition now into talking about monetizing your brand. You're becoming an authority in something. You've launched your YouTube channel. You're growing a YouTube channel. People are listening to you now in whatever space you're in. Now we're trying to figure out, okay, I'm having to work my nine to five, obviously, but I would like to monetize this. I like to make money from my brand, from what I'm doing. What do you instruct people and your clients to do once they get to this point in terms of, you know, do you want to be a coach and a consultant? Like, what you do and what I do? Do you want to create a community that's kind of got a paywall, where people kind of pay to be a part of this kind of premium community merchandise, whatever it may be? What are the pathways to get there, to start monetizing your brand and your voice?

Christine Blosdale (24:51)

Yes. Well, it depends too obviously, it's a numbers game, right? So if you are someone who is on YouTube and you're creating content and you have massive amounts of numbers, you're already in a really good spot. But 99% of the world out there who are content creators, they're not there yet. So they're building. What I want to suggest is, number one, that you don't want give up. There's. I think there's a rule this is relating to podcasting, but it's the same thing with YouTube creation. I believe it's like, up. It's like seven episodes or something like that before people quit, right? They go, oh, I've done seven podcast episodes, and I don't have, like, you know, a million people. And I don't. I'm not rich. Okay. You need to continue. Need to keep going, because it's. If you give up after just a few videos or a few podcast episodes, then nobody's going to see your content. So there's a couple different things you want to think about. Also, if, again, my mantra with if you're not seen and heard, you're not hired. You need to get out There, get out, away from your actual platform. If you're creating YouTube content and you want to bring people to that page, if you're unique enough, you can be a guest on podcast shows. Podcast shows are wonderful because the audience that listens to podcasts are quite highly active on social media and YouTube. So if you get on a podcast show that their audience is like, is your people right, your ideal audience, then you're going to be bringing people to your, your page. I think that's really important. Just not from, not from a pure vanity standpoint, but that's how you're going to get the numbers up and then eventually you can monetize that. I also do believe that there's a lot of us that are experts in whatever field they are, and it could be monetized very easily by being a coach, by being a consultant. But that also just means you need to have a platform other than YouTube. You need to have a website so people can easily book time with you and pay you. And the other thing that you can do, although with first time authors, I say don't expect to make, you know, don't expect to retire off of royalties from writing your book. But writing books is very important, Publishing books is very important and it can lead to some monetization so that you're making money while you're sleeping. Especially if you've done a lot of video content. You can turn that video content into chapters in a book, easy peasy. People don't realize that because they go, I'm not a writer, I hate writing. It's okay as long as you're a talker, you can create content for those that book. Other things you can do, of course are classes, courses, all those great things. But you have to be out there and be seen and heard first. That's the most important.

Dusty Porter (27:42)

Your freebies have to be really good, right? I mean your, your freebies and the things that you provide people and in this case the listeners of this podcast, normally is the freebies are your YouTube videos. And putting those out there consistently, consistency, as you mentioned at the very top of the show is extremely vital. As far as maybe the perfect combination of everything as far as an authority goes, when you're working with clients, what is kind of the bare minimum that they need to have? So if you're speaking to specific, you know, specifically YouTubers here for this podcast, what else? You mentioned a website. I always talk about an email newsletter. What's the perfect kind of combination or suite of off platform, and by platform I mean off YouTube things that they need to have to continue building their brand and forming and curating a community around what they're trying to talk about.

Christine Blosdale (28:32)

Yes, definitely, you need a website or you need something that you can, someplace that you can send people so that they can actually communicate with you a bit more. Also, I love doing workshops and webinars and free events. You'd be surprised. You have fans, you have people that love the work that you do and they would love that opportunity to communicate with you. And if you're someone like an expert, like you, Dusty, I would suggest definitely doing a, you know, a meet and greet type thing where you get to actually meet your fans. And you can do that in a zoom webinar or workshop, something along those lines that builds, not only builds your authority, but that builds connection. And then they're going to share your. They're going to have such a good experience with you that they're not just watching you, but they're communicating with you. So then they're going to be loyal, number one. Number two, they're going to share and they're going to recommend you to other people, which is what you want. Okay. A lot of times I get references from people who say, I've never seen you or heard you, but I got a good friend of mine told me all about you, right? So that's important to show up for that. In addition to having that really good website, have opportunities for people like doing those free workshops and webinars and things like that. Have opportunities for people to connect with you and then also get out. And even in your own community, there's lots of speaking, there's tons of speaking opportunities that are around you. It might be the local business chamber, right? They're always looking for people. If you're somebody that can bring your community where you live, bring those people into your world again, there's going to be loyal followers and people who might be down the road, important for your growth. So the main thing is that you show up and you show up in different platforms. The other thing is, is show up where your audience is. If you, if your audience are really young people, maybe LinkedIn isn't the platform so much to also show your videos from YouTube. But maybe it might be like on TikTok, right? And always on. If you're on TikTok or if you're on any social media, feel free to do call to actions. People forget that they always, they create great content and they forget to say, hey, make sure you subscribe to my YouTube channel, right? Or make sure you visit my website at blah blah, blah, blah, Com. They always forget to do those call to actions. And you can tell the audience what to do and just remind them from here, you know, from time to time. But you want to have, you want to direct them with that call to action, what you want them to do.

Dusty Porter (31:08)

I love that. That is, that is really, really good. And I think that oftentimes we get so stuck in our own little bubble of, okay, I'm trying to grow a YouTube channel. This is all I need to do is YouTube and nothing else matters. And we, like you said many times today, we're kind of in a silo of this is where we are. We're kind of boxed in. But giving people opportunities to reach you elsewhere. I'll give an example, a personal example of mine really quickly and then I'm going to ask Christine one final question. For years, this show has been one of the top video creator podcasts on the Internet. We've, we've gotten, and Christine said it right, people start podcasts and if you want to go see a graveyard, go to Apple Podcast or Spotify, go to the podcast section and just go for any niche and you'll see podcasts that were started and about seven to 15 episodes in. They're done, right? There's no instant gratification in podcasting. There's just not. And so one of the things that I was really resistant again against early on and up till about a year ago was video podcasting. I was like, you know, I've always done it audio. I don't want to turn the camera on and get these fancy lights and a nice background. But when I started doing it, I was then meeting those people, I was getting a new audience. I saw very little overlap. And so what, what that meant is that now my podcast that would get, you know, 10, 15,000, 20,000 downloads, the first seven days was now getting like 2500 or 2600 or 26,000, because I was now meeting people where they consume their content. So that's exactly what Christine's talking about. So I want to ask you one final question. And by the way, before I ask her the question, any links of Christine's will be in the description. All of her website, a link to the discovery call, all of that will be in the description of this episode today. The final question to you is simply this. Christine, knowing who's listening to this podcast, creators of all shapes and sizes, all different walks of life, what advice would you give them in regards to? They're in a rut they're really trying to figure out, hey, should I even keep doing this anymore? What advice would you give those creators?

Christine Blosdale (33:16)

Yes, please, please, please, please, don't give up. Don't give up. There is your audience is there. Your audience is out there. And if you, you know, if you need a little boost, a little confidence boost, you know, check out the work that Dusty does. Communicate with, you know, with myself. Don't give up. And realize that, again, your key audience, your audience is waiting for you. They're waiting for your content. They're waiting to be entertained, informed, educated, you know, if you can, if you can provide information, entertainment, motivation, inspiration. People don't realize a lot of times their life story is, is crazy and, and they've overcome so many obstacles, right? Share that with people because somebody in the audience that you'll never meet, or you might, they might connect with you, but they might be going through a really tough time right now. And your story about overcoming an obstacle is going to give them hope. That's huge. But it's not going to happen until you show up. So I really, I beg you, please show up, because your audience is waiting for you and they're, they're looking forward to hearing from you, from seeing your content. So don't stop.

Dusty Porter (34:34)

Absolutely. Christine, you have been amazing. Thank you again. She is the expert authority coach. She has a podcast, she has coaching and consulting to help you become the authority in your space. You know, although I do love to have YouTube creators specifically on this podcast, I love and have always. We're approaching our 500th episode, first quarter of next year, going on 14 years of the show. Only missing a handful over that time. Very proud of that. But I've always been open and willing to have people on the show that are specific in regards to a attribute or something that I believe creators need to see growth in. Just getting that data set from the people I'm working with. And becoming an authority is helpful for not only educational channels, but, but for channels that want to entertain, channels that want to lift up whatever it may be you're trying to accomplish on YouTube. You have to build a brand, you have to build your circle of influence, and you have to figure out who those folks are. So, Christine, you are amazing. Thank you for all that you put out in the world.
