I feel like we don't normally do this, but Aggie athletics putting out when the Blackout game is going to be and when the red, white and blueout game is going to be like, already putting it on your calendars in July, I feel like I. I'm not used to seeing that this early on, and so that just gives you even more buzz and anticipation.

I think, I think it's. What I hope to see is a more fast paced offense. Those tight ends are great outlets for quarterbacks that are moving the pocket right. You know, first reads out, tight ends up the seam, something simple, you know, quick five yard dig. So I think the tight end plays in huge into a fast paced offense especially. Or like even the backside tight end, you know, you roll out, he comes, you know, he comes across, you know, cross across the middle. So it's. You want to drag. So it's. Those are the two that I would love to see because I like, I know for a fact. And again, speaking to existence, I know for a fact Isaiah Horton's going to have an impact. Like I just do. Yeah. So. So for me.

I mean, last year was cash as hell. The year before that, it was the Nick's Horton. I was going to say that. The transfer from Purdue, the Brian kid. I mean, in the past it was demarvin Liao. I mean, the other Elko defenses, there's always that gate, that kind of that record, you know, and then the rest of the D line is doing their thing, but you've got the one guy that's really the sack guy, and I think he's going to be the sack guy. He's going to be the one that gets the pressure on the quarterback. I think his name will stand out more than the. I think as a collective, I think there you're going to be some really good. I, I hope genuinely it's those, it's the, it's the four new transfers on the O line. I mean, that's, I mean, that's what I really hope it is.

Because I have no doubt, like I said, we've said this before, we know that Elko's defenses are going to be good. How is that O line going to mesh? And they're going to have to come together quick and mesh quickly. So I hope it's those guys. But I think, I think at the end of the year, when we look back go, who was the best transfer that came in? Whose name did we Say the. I think it'll be saka.

You know, I think sometimes you talk Talk about a topic so much that you find yourself with a little distance, changing your mind. And I haven't changed my mind on the offensive line. I'm not saying that. But if I'm going to ask you, I'm starting to think, like, man, I'm really overanalyzing this. We got some talent. Let's just go make it work. If I were to ask you what's your biggest concern heading into camp, but you can't say offensive line, okay? You can't. You're not allowed. All right? Not allowed. You got to just assume that Cushing, Elko have it figured out with the right guys, okay? And I'm. And today I'm giving him that. Boom, Great offensive line.

Quarterback. And I'll tell you why. Because again, I, I, I, I, I think our defense, I think a Mike Elko defense with the talent we have is always going to be good enough to win almost every game we're in.

I mean, they were good enough to beat Miami last year. They gave up 10 points. They were good enough to win that game. The defense had struggled, but they're still good enough to have beaten Texas.

I mean, they're good enough. Right? So you're telling me O line is going to be fantastic, then? It boils down. I mean, we've got a stable of talent at the running back position. We might have one of the best receiving groups in the country. It all boils down to quarterback.

Let me ask this question. I want you to do some research. Nick, you can help. All right? Can you guys look at Marcel's win loss, maybe numbers in games where the team rushes for one. You want to say 150, 175 or more? Okay, just let me know that, because what? Well, I understand that. And that again, people hold on to the last two games.

Let me also preface by saying, too, the reason why it's a concern is because it's the most important position on the field.

So that's also. I'm not knocking Marcel.

No, I know you're not. But I also think that, like, we focus a lot on the last two games, as we should, because they were the most important games and the team played us worse those last couple games. Right. But I also think guys, they couldn't run the ball anymore. And when you can't run the ball and you're getting hit, Marceau's getting hit in those games against really good defensive lines, by the way. Credit to them for what they were able to do. Yes, he deserves blame, for sure, but I think sometimes we put a lot of blame on somebody without thinking about the other things that weren't happening.

But you said we didn't have to worry about the O line.

Well, but it's not necessarily just the O line. It's. Maybe it's the running backs. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm just. I don't know. Like. Yeah, so I'll let them do the research.

When you said that, I was thinking the O line's just going to be, like, just plowing people over. So if that's the case, then it's all on Marcel at that point.

I want to discuss things because I think it's not always in everything we talk about black and white, Big Ten versus sec, Marcel Reed, running game, whatever. Right? Like, it's not always black and white. There are different layers to these conversations that I think we can explore, because I do think he has to be better. He's got to be more accurate. He can't turn the ball more, turn the ball over as much as he did. I 1000% agree. I also think let's kind of explore maybe some of the whys behind some of those. Some of it, it wasn't very accurate. That's on him.

There will be. I just think there will be times where. There's going to be times where we run up against a defense that can stop the run, that's really good at stopping the run, and then our quarterback has to win those games in those moments.

And so I just think our quarterback. I mean, you've got to. I mean, there's going to be the next guy up. Step up. You got to step up and do your. Do your thing. And in those last two games, the running game didn't do well. The O line didn't do well. Marcel didn't play well. I don't. I mean, the receivers, it's hard. You know, they're hard. It's hard to tell if the quarterback, you know, if they're. It could have been the receivers on a lot of those plays not being where they're supposed to. Who knows? We don't know all that.

You know, Robinson, I, I, and I trust in Robinson like I trust in Elko. So it's got to be the linebackers because those long runs, it's. It's all it is, is missing assignments. Very rarely is it because they were trying to arm tackle. Right. And running backs in the sec. And not just the SEC anymore, Right. With the, with transfer portal. Other schools have them. They got these big bruising running backs, and the last thing you want is a safety coming downhill trying to tackle a 230 pound dude that is at full pace. Right? So for me, it's the linebackers. And not that I think that they're going to be bad. They're just. That's the one thing that I need to see, you know, is just the run defense. Not as a whole, though, like, specific, because it happened enough last year and it happened against what we consider not as good teams. Right? So it's a disciplined thing for me. So for me, it's linebackers.

Okay, 11 and three. I thought it'd be a better record than that, but 11 and 3. Yeah, it's not. Losses are 20, 24, South Carolina, 2024 USC. USC. And Texas last year. And Texas last year. And I felt like the running game wasn't very good last year, at least in the second half. I think they ran the ball much better in the first half.

I mean, and that, and that is the hard part. When you go back and look at it, you go, I mean, look how good he played in that second half against South Carolina. He was on fire. He was perfect in that second half. But then to go and rush for 175 yards against Texas on the road and still lose the game the way we did, that's on him. That's. That was on him. And the defense, I mean, the defense did not play great that game. But still, I mean, what did we score? 17 points, I think, total that game.

I think Marcel operates better. Like the faster you go to an extent. The faster you go, the better he is. And any faster tempo offenses, like, you have to have a quarterback that can scoot. I mean, you just have to. You can't run. You can like, you can have a generational Tom Brady and do it. But even, like we said, even Mendoza would run when he needed to. And so I just think it favors a running quarterback. And then when you get the, the defense like almost literally on their heels, that's when you turn around, you hand it to Owens, you know, because it's got to back off. Because whether you're, you're high, you're high tempo running or high tempo throwing, or you're moving the pocket high tempo, at some point the defense has to give you literal space so they can make decisions better. Because the closer they are, the faster they have to make decision. If they make it wrong, it's gone right.

And I need to say, let me say this too. I'm not down on Marcel at all. I think Marcel was great last year. I thought he played fantastic. I mean, we, if, if he doesn't play the way he did, we don't, we don't start 11 and oh, we don't have a, an iconic season without Marcel. So I'm not, I don't want to come across like a knocking Marcel, but fact of the matter is, is that at the end of the season, he didn't play well. O line didn't play well. You know, we had some, we had some places where people didn't play well. Right. And your premise was the O line is not the concern. So I mean, so the first thing in my head is like, well, it's got to be quarterback. If he plays well, I think we win every game. If he, if Marcel plays is like he did against LSU or the second half of South Carolina and some of the games where he played really well, I don't think anyone beats us. I think that the rest of, I think that the rest of the units if the O line in this premise, if the O line is playing well, I think the rest of the units are all good enough to win a national championship. Yeah, I think all of them are. I know our defense will be good enough. I think our receiving core is amazing. I think that our running back group is full of absolute studs. If the O line and Marcel play well every game, or especially in the games that matter, I think that this team, this team. The sky, literally, the sky is literally the limit. I think you can, this team is good enough to win a national championship if they do those things.

And so I do think that I'm really high on this. I think this is the best receiving core we've had since Josh Reynolds, Christian Kirk days.

I'm telling you, there's going to be a game early on where you're going to see Aaron Gregory go like, oh, my goodness, you're going to do it. Like, it's going to happen. Again, this is the beauty of the way I believe Elko has developed this program, is that you got young guys that they may have to play because they're that good, but they don't have to.

Like, dude, you didn't have to wait your turn, but if you do have to wait your turn, you're going to still play a lot, and we're going to get you there. I would have liked to seen a little bit more from him, but the perfect amount, especially considering who was ahead of him. Le'Veon Moss and freaking Ruben Owens and E.J. smith, who was fantastic last year.

And this is exactly why I don't worry about those position groups. Those two, specifically. Those two are outside of our. I think. I think if you ranked, like, the strength of all of our. You got the D line. I'd say probably then quarterback. Overall, quarterback I mean, again, I, it's hard, but I do think that those groups are really, really good. And then I'd say linebacker and then O line at the bottom because there's question marks in those, in those last two. I'm not saying that they won't be great. There's just question marks at linebacker and O line, you know, so that's actually an interesting thought process. Thought thing is which groups are the best? Right. And then of course, special teams with the, with the kid you had on earlier. Great interview, by the way.

Or like even the backside tight end, you know, you roll out, he comes, you know, he comes across, you know, cross across the middle. So it's. You want to drag. So it's. Those are the two that I would love to see because I like, I know for a fact. And again, speaking to existence, I know for a fact Isaiah Horton's going to have an impact. Like I just do. Yeah. So. So for me.

And when you can't run the ball and you're getting hit, Marceau's getting hit in those games against really good defensive lines, by the way. Credit to them for what they were able to do. Yes, he deserves blame, for sure, but I think sometimes we put a lot of blame on somebody without thinking about the other things that weren't happening.

He can't turn the ball more, turn the ball over as much as he did. I 1000% agree. I also think let's kind of explore maybe some of the whys behind some of those. Some of it, it wasn't very accurate. That's on him.

There will be. I just think there will be times where. There's going to be times where we run up against a defense that can stop the run, that's really good at stopping the run, and then our quarterback has to win those games in those moments.

It's hard to tell if the quarterback, you know, if they're. It could have been the receivers on a lot of those plays not being where they're supposed to. Who knows? We don't know all that.

They got these big bruising running backs, and the last thing you want is a safety coming downhill trying to tackle a 230 pound dude that is at full pace. Right? So for me, it's the linebackers. And not that I think that they're going to be bad. They're just. That's the one thing that I need to see, you know, is just the run defense. Not as a whole, though, like, specific, because it happened enough last year and it happened against what we consider not as good teams. Right? So it's a disciplined thing for me. So for me, it's linebackers.

And so I just think it favors a running quarterback. And then when you get the, the defense like almost literally on their heels, that's when you turn around, you hand it to Owens, you know, because it's got to back off. Because whether you're, you're high, you're high tempo running or high tempo throwing, or you're moving the pocket high tempo, at some point the defense has to give you literal space so they can make decisions better. Because the closer they are, the faster they have to make decision. If they make it wrong, it's gone right.

And I need to say, let me say this too. I'm not down on Marcel at all. I think Marcel was great last year. I thought he played fantastic. I mean, we, if, if he doesn't play the way he did, we don't, we don't start 11 and oh, we don't have a, an iconic season without Marcel. So I'm not, I don't want to come across like a knocking Marcel, but fact of the matter is, is that at the end of the season, he didn't play well. O line didn't play well. You know, we had some, we had some places where people didn't play well. Right. And your premise was the O line is not the concern. So I mean, so the first thing in my head is like, well, it's got to be quarterback. If he plays well, I think we win every game. If he, if Marcel plays is like he did against LSU or the second half of South Carolina and some of the games where he played really well, I don't think anyone beats us. I think that the rest of, I think that the rest of the units if the O line in this premise, if the O line is playing well, I think the rest of the units are all good enough to win a national championship. Yeah, I think all of them are. I know our defense will be good enough. I think our receiving core is amazing. I think that our running back group is full of absolute studs. If the O line and Marcel play well every game, or especially in the games that matter, I think that this team, this team. The sky, literally, the sky is literally the limit. I think you can, this team is good enough to win a national championship if they do those things.

And so I do think that I'm really high on this. I think this is the best receiving core we've had since Josh Reynolds, Christian Kirk days.

Again, this is the beauty of the way I believe Elko has developed this program, is that you got young guys that they may have to play because they're that good, but they don't have to.

I would have liked to seen a little bit more from him, but the perfect amount, especially considering who was ahead of him. You got the D line. I'd say probably then quarterback. Overall, quarterback I mean, again, I, it's hard, but I do think that those groups are really, really good. And then I'd say linebacker and then O line at the bottom because there's question marks in those, in those last two. I'm not saying that they won't be great. There's just question marks at linebacker and O line, you know, so that's actually an interesting thought process. Thought thing is which groups are the best? Right.
