We’re joined by Author and Photographer, Paul Koudounaris, who has previously been on the show talking about Pet Cemeteries in his book Faithful unto Death. Today we’re chatting about railroad dogs and his latest book called Go West Young Dog. As a really fascinating read, the book uncovers a somewhat hidden pocket of canine history about some brave, vagabond dogs that became famous by traveling - alone- on the world's first rail networks. Paul concentrates on the American dogs, not that there weren’t ‘railroad’ dogs in other continents. Many of these dogs gained ‘celebrity’ status - their stories are funny, heartwarming, triumphant, and tragic, or all at the same time. As Paul says: 'I believe that within those stories, these dogs have some lessons to teach us.'
