On a May evening in 1979, an eighteen-year-old woman went car shopping with her dad. Afterward, he dropped her off at her apartment, and the two went through their usual routine. She went inside first, did a quick safety walk-through, and then came back outside to let her father know everything was okay and he was good to head home. It would be the last time he saw his daughter. The next morning, her roommate returned to the apartment to pick her up for work. Instead, she found her roommate missing and a disturbing scene left behind. Months would pass before a pair of men doing target practice made a discovery that ended any remaining hope that she might still be out there somewhere. In the decades since, the investigation has gone down a number of different paths, including false confessions and possible connections to other murders in the area. But when you strip all of that away and go back to the earliest days of the investigation, there are details that seem much more significant with the benefit of hindsight. And they leave you with one question: did investigators have the answer in front of them from the very beginning?TIPS: Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at (904) 630-0500 . In the fall of 1998, a pregnant college student gets into a car accident. She is okay for the most part, but she hit her head on the windshield hard enough to leave a large bump. She checks in with her father, lets him know she visited the campus nurse, and nothing else seems amiss. Then suddenly, she and her car vanish. People wonder: was she more seriously injured than she realized, driving somewhere in a state of confusion? Or was something more sinister at play? When her car turns up abandoned with hundreds of unexplained miles on it and no sign of the mother-to-be, the clues seem to point to the latter. Now, nearly three decades later what happened to Amber remains one of Wisconsin's biggest mysteries but something Amber left behind herself may be the biggest clue investigators have to work with yet.TIPS: Green Bay Police Department at 920-448-3200. In August 2002, thirty-one-year-old nurse Audrey Herron finished her shift, climbed into her Jeep Grand Cherokee, and began the 13-mile drive home on a rainy, foggy evening. She never arrived. From that night forward, neither Audrey nor her Jeep has ever been found. Some believe she was involved in a crash and that both she and her vehicle remain hidden somewhere within the region's waterways or rugged terrain despite years of extensive searches. Others believe she encountered someone on that dark drive home, or perhaps even after she arrived. Whatever happened, Audrey left behind a husband, family, friends, and three young children who have now grown into adults still searching for answers about what happened to their mother.TIPS: New York State Police at (518) 622-8600 or e-mail the information to: nysvicap@troopers.ny.govCase suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/missing-in-america/new-york-mother-audrey-may-herron-still-missing-16-years-n899821https://navigatingadvocacy.com/episodes/audreymayturkherronhttps://www.thevanishedpodcast.com/episodes/2020/1/27/episode-209https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asMzv499JQQhttps://www.newspapers.com/article/the-journal-news-search-continues-for-mi/201651339/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-freehold-8-days-12/201734971/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-freehold-lady-22/201735470/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-probable-route-12/201735552/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-route-22/201735565/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-3-weeks-12/201735881/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-3-weeks/201735895/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-profiled-on-without/201736031/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-featured-on-without/201736038/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-without-a-trace-22/201736065/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-treat-as-homicide-1/201736160/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-treating-as-homicide/201736168/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-jan-2003/201806455/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-measuring-time-in-te/201806497/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-measuring-time-in-te/201806497/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-1k-days/201806818/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-windham-journal-cold-case-playing-ca/201806909/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

In the summer of 1987, a young New Jersey mother is found brutally murdered. The case shocks her community, but when an arrest is made not long afterward, many believe the person responsible has been caught. Decades later, advances in DNA testing reveal that the man convicted of her murder could not have been the killer. The discovery exposes a wrongful conviction, sends the investigation back to the beginning, and leaves her family once again searching for answers. Today, the hope is that the same evidence that freed the wrong man may finally identify the right one.TIPS: New Jersey Crime Stoppers at (973) 267-2255 or Burlington Township Anonymous Tip Line (609) 386-2019.Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://cases.justia.com/federal/district-courts/new-jersey/njdce/1%3A2007cv02723/203429/79/0.pdf https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/crime-victims-form-unlikely-bonds-with-wrongfully-convicted-60-minutes-transcript/?https://www.burlingtoncountytimes.com/story/news/2013/10/31/eastampton-man-exonerated-in-murder/17457138007/https://projectcoldcase.org/victim-detail/jacqueline-harrison-2327/https://www.wsj.com/articles/for-victims-families-the-torment-of-exoneration-1478482579https://law.justia.com/cases/new-jersey/appellate-division-published/2003/a3437-02-opn.htmlhttps://www.npr.org/2007/06/12/10956464/key-players-in-the-larry-peterson-casehttps://www.npr.org/2007/06/13/10974437/larry-peterson-life-after-exonerationhttps://www.npr.org/transcripts/10961075https://innocenceproject.org/cases/larry-peterson/https://www.newspapers.com/article/courier-post-pemberton-twp-woman-found-s/201345719/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-victim-was-strangled/201346457/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-woman-found-dead-in-woods/201353482/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-daily-journal-woman-assaulted-murde/201353589/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-923-man-who-knew-her-arrested/201353848/https://www.newspapers.com/article/courier-post-pemberton-twp-man-charged-i/201363034/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-suspect-assaulted-in-jail/201363360/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-pleaded-not-guilty/201380805/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-trial-underway/201380916/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-guilty/201388982/https://www.newspapers.com/article/courier-post-prosecuter-defends-convicti/201389017/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-central-new-jersey-home-news-finding/201389113/https://www.newspapers.com/article/asbury-park-press-1-mil-civil-suit/201389403/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

On an April afternoon in 1994, a fifteen year old Florida girl gets off her school bus at the entrance to the dirt road leading to her home. From there, she still had about a quarter mile to walk. The narrow road cut through thick Florida brush, with dense vegetation pressing in on both sides and tree branches overhead creating an almost continuous canopy. It was a walk she knew well and one that usually took only about five minutes. But this time, she never made it home. Later that same afternoon, after she was reported missing, a sheriff's helicopter found her body not far from where she had gotten off the bus. Investigators eventually arrested a suspect, but before the case could ever go to trial, the case against him unraveled. Today, 32 years later, detectives are still trying to figure out who killed her so close to home.TIPS: Crimestoppers of Northeast Florida 1-888-277-TIPS (8477)Case suggestions: In July of 1997, an avid runner spent the afternoon running errands before driving into Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest to map out a 10K route as part of her marathon training. When she didn't return home by nightfall, her husband knew something was wrong. Friends, family, and volunteers quickly began searching the trails, believing she may have been injured somewhere along her run. But after an extensive search turned up no sign of Amy, investigators began to consider that she may no longer be in forest at all and that her disappearance was the result of foul play.As the investigation unfolded, attention turned to Amy's husband. His actions in the days after her disappearance and his limited cooperation with investigators led to years of public debate. Some believed he had been unfairly judged, while others felt there were too many unanswered questions to ignore. At the same time, investigators never ruled out the possibility that Amy had crossed paths with a stranger. That theory gained renewed attention years later when a suspected serial killer was placed in Lander around the time Amy disappeared.Nearly 30 years later, Amy Wroe Bechtel's disappearance remains one of Wyoming's most enduring mysteries. Was she harmed by someone she knew, or did she become the victim of a chance encounter while out on a training run? After decades of investigation, no one has been able to explain what happened after Amy set out that afternoon.TIPS:Fremont County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 332-5611Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://www.runnersworld.com/runners-stories/a20817705/long-gone-girl/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-woman-missing-in-lan/200429526/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-still-missing/200430796/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-continues-12/200430921/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-continues-22/200430941/https://www.newspapers.com/article/jackson-hole-news-searchers-look-for-wom/200435733/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-photo-of-search/200436172/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-prepare-to-scale-bac/200436214/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-photo-of-run/200436391/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-scale-back-22/200436428/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-scaled-back/200436799/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-continues-in/200436937/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-continues-in/200437085/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-steve-b-pic/200437353/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-timeline-12/200437406/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-timeline-22/200437519/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-interview-family-and/200438166/https://www.newspapers.com/article/jackson-hole-news-10k-reward/200438235/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-louis-lake/200438383/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-foul-play-possibl/200439019/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-bechtel-home-searche/200439804/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-house-searched-22/200440109/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-investigation-contin/200440439/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-sb-attorney-slams-fr/200440759/https://www.newspapers.com/article/jackson-hole-news-questioned-by-fbi/200440972/ https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-atty-hired-2/200441111/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-funding-for-sheriff/200476208/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-support-of-steve/200476345/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-still-no-clues-al/200476389/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-nothing-incriminatin/200480027/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-waiting-on-results-f/200480258/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-tracking-seminar/200480355/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-satellite/200480598/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-intensive-probe-45-d/200480696/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-intensive-probe-45-d/200480793/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-two-fundraisers/200480907/ https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-sightings-12/200480976/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-family-tensions-12/200481192/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-family-22/200481610/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-hopes-dim-12/200481634/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-investigation-misste/200481909/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-letters-for-steve/200482037/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-searching-for-stalke/200482203/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-more-support-of-stev/200482318/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-mine-shaft/200482614/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-strain-between-husba/200561798/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-talk-show/200561855/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-florida-sighting/200561890/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-one-year-later/200562386/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-authorities-plan-to/200563192/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-3-years/200563253/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-3-years-rumors/200563321/https://www.amazon.com/Rivers-Blood-Robert-Scott/dp/0786019964 Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

In early 2006, a 30-year-old woman in Tallahassee was four months pregnant and navigating a tricky time in her life. Cautiously optimistic about welcoming her rainbow baby, she was also going through some personal troubles. Her and her husband had been separated for a few months and she was casually seeing another man, whom she was breaking things off with to work on her marriage and prepare for the arrival of the baby. After a regular day of working her 9-5 office job followed by her side gig at a grocery store bakery, she headed home to get off her feet. That was the last anyone saw her. Even though she was normally in touch with friends, family, and co-workers every single day, a series of events led her to not be reported missing for a few days. The investigation revealed persons of interest, clues around a late night telephone call, and a missed counseling appointment. All of these things paved the way for theories. Finally, fifteen years after her disappearance, more of what happened that night came into light but it still hasn’t been enough to close the case.TIPS: Big Bend Crime Solvers Anonymous Line: (850) 574-TIPS (7477)Tallahassee Police Dept (850) 891-4200Big Bend Cold Case Task Force: (850) 410-7611Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSouce Material:https://www.wctv.tv/2021/10/11/unsolved-florida-ali-gilmore-case-15-years-later/https://charleyproject.org/case/ali-iisha-gilmoreMore Newspapers.com to be uploaded Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

While recently covering the disappearance of Branson Perry, I briefly discussed the murder of his cousin's wife, Bobbie Jo Stinnett, a victim of the rare and devastating crime known as fetal abduction. That conversation led me to a discussion with returning podcast guest and retired Bronx Homicide Detective Robert Klein, who investigated a remarkably similar case in 2015.In this episode, Rob joins me to discuss the murder of 22-year-old Angelikque Sutton, a young mother-to-be whose life was stolen just days before she was due to give birth. Fetal abduction cases are incredibly rare, but when they do happen, they leave devastation that reaches far beyond the immediate victim. We discuss Angelikque's case, the deception that often surrounds these crimes, and the patterns investigators have observed across similar cases over the years. We also discuss the striking parallels between Angelikque's case and the recent Netflix documentary Maternal Instinct, and how understanding these patterns may help prevent future tragedies.IG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Other episodes wtih Detective Robert Klein:A Conversation with Detective Klein The Unsolved Murder of Solomon Robinson The Solved Murder of Jasmine Porter Source Material:https://www.missingkids.org/theissues/infantabductionshttps://www.missingkids.org/blog/2026/maternal-instinct-shines-light-on-rare-but-real-crime-of-fetal-abductionhttps://abc7ny.com/post/vigil-held-to-remember-pregnant-woman-murdered-in-the-bronx-family-grateful-for-babys-life-/1097085/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-daily-news-112115/199863631/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-daily-news-112215/199863990/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-church-of-heavy-hearts/199864544/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-vigil/199864999/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-funeral/199865232/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-sat-dec-5th-held-without-bail/199865321/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-trial-1/199865635/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-angel-praylow/199867308/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-i-thought-baby-was-mine/199867996/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-words-that-kill/199868929/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-journal-news-woman-convicted/199868972/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-40-to-life/199869011/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

When we think about the natural order of life, we expect that one day we'll have to say goodbye to our parents and grandparents. It doesn't make that loss any easier, but it's a reality most of us understand is likely to come. What we don't expect is for a younger family member to die before their time. The grief of losing a child or grandchild is something most people can't imagine, and if it happens once, you hope it's the only tragedy of that kind your family will ever have to endure. But today's story is about a grandmother who faced that heartbreak again and again. In a farming town of fewer than 200 people, JoAnn Stinnett faced tragedy tied to violence three separate times. The case we'll be focusing on today is that of her grandson, Branson Perry, a young man who stepped outside for what should have been a routine task and was never seen again. In discussing his case, we will also talk about the others. Over the years, the town of Skidmore, Missouri has become known for a series of tragic and unusual events that have drawn national attention. The town has developed a reputation that extends far beyond its small size. But behind every headline is a real person and a family left to pick up the pieces. For the past 25 years, Branson's loved ones have lived with unanswered questions, searching for an explanation for what happened after he walked out of sight.
