In February of 1996, a pregnant woman is attacked in her Bronx apartment with her young son as a witness to the brutal crime. The case seems like it is going to be solved early on when a witness comes forward and names who they say did this. But as quickly as this comes together, it falls apart and the case goes cold for over two decades. That was until a series of events lands the case in the hands of Bronx Homicide Detective Robert Klein who starts reworking the case from the beginning. The investigation into Jasmine’s murder perfectly illustrates how nothing is as seen on TV. Detective Klein’s thoughts on who did it weaved in and out of different people in Jasmine’s social circle as he reinterviewed key people. That was until a DNA hit revealed a name that was nowhere in the police file and uncovered a monster who had terrorized the women of Davidson Avenue for years. In 2003, a young couple heads into the remote desert of Yavapai County to celebrate their anniversary. They only had time for a quick overnight trip, so they decided to spend the evening together beneath the stars, camping in the back of a pickup truck. But when the two failed to show up to obligations the next morning, friends began to worry. Because the couple had shared their camping plans with people close to them, the friends and family searching for them had a starting point on where to look for them and locate the truck. And when they approached it, they walked into the worst-case scenario. Nearby, a damaged disposable camera was recovered that appeared to have been intentionally destroyed. Despite that attempt, police were still able to process the film inside. Out of all the photos recovered, three images in particular immediately stood out to investigators.More than twenty years later, people are still asking the same question: were those three photographs an important clue to what happened that night, or a red herring that sent investigators down the wrong path?TIPS: Yavapai Silent Witness is offering up to a $10,000 cash reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case. One night in the spring of 1981, a North Dakota teenager didn’t come home. Sometimes when it feels like someone has vanished into thin air, there are very few leads to go on. And for many of the decades that followed, that’s how this case appeared to people outside the local area. There was one clear last sighting of Barb, and then she was gone. But as the case was revisited and looked at more closely by her family, an investigative podcaster, and members of the community, it became clear that there had always been quiet talk about what may have happened to her. A mysterious boyfriend. A killer passing through town. And clues that pointed closer to home. In this episode, I talk through those pieces with Barb’s younger sister, Kathy, and share what has been uncovered, along with where the case stands today, 45 years later.TIPS:Williston Police Department (North Dakota) 1-701-577-1212Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:Interview: Kathy N - Barb's sisterhttps://findbarbcotton.com/https://dakotaspotlight.com/barbara-cotton-disappearance/https://crimeblogger1983.blogspot.com/https://charleyproject.org/case/barbara-louise-cottonhttps://www.findagrave.com/memorial/83582081/stacey_demarr-werderhttps://medium.com/@gabulosis/barbara-cotton-a-family-is-still-searching-for-answers-over-4-decades-later-31a52cabaf80https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-bismarck-tribune-williston-woman-won/195052811/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dickinson-press-williston-woman-stil/195044356/https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/12197903/franklin_leonard-cottonhttps://www.missingkids.org/poster/NCMC/796102/1Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

An arrest has been made in the 1991 Killing of Cindy Wanner. Here you'll hear the original episode plus the updates. A mother is making a little extra money by cleaning her sister's house in an upscale neighborhood. She is feeding her eleven-month old daughter cereal in her high chair while cleaning each room. Somewhere in a small forty-five minute window, someone would gain access to the house and brazenly abduct Cindy in front of her child. Cindy would be found murdered three weeks later, but the autopsy would reveal that she had been kept alive for two weeks after her abduction and open up the investigation to a whole new round of questions. Was there a new serial killer operating in an area that had already been plagued by a few? Was her case related to other crimes in the area? Cindy's case is so solvable, with DNA evidence just waiting for witness testimony to strengthen the case.Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastNew Updates Links for Sources:https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/apr/28/cindy-wanner-cold-case-murderhttps://www.ktvu.com/news/placer-county-cindy-wanner-cold-case-arresthttps://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/cindy-wanner-cold-case-murder-granite-bay-arrest-placer-county/https://www.azfamily.com/2026/04/29/bullhead-city-residents-shock-after-neighbor-arrested-1991-california-cold-case/Link to Golden State Killer Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/5IKmGf0PQ5By58ulfXLz1E?si=e39ba536fc214b86Link to Episode on Yosemite Murders:https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/murder-in-paradise-the-yosemite-murders/id1122650415?i=1000386193409https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-cindy-wanner-cause-of/150321293/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-break-may-come-in-91/150322532/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-cindy-wanner-identifi/150322590/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-cindy-wanner-autopsy/150322654/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-press-tribune-cindy-wanner-atm-card/150322732/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-bismarck-tribune-atm-card-may-leave/150322834/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-purse-missing-wanner/150323743/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-press-tribune-1993-wanner-calls-stil/150323841/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-pacer-slaying-dec-17/150323948/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-dec-10-1991-atm-car/150323999/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-little-evidence-found/150324033/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-fbi-enters-kidnapping/150324100/https://www.abc10.com/article/news/local/cold-case-homicides-that-haunt-the-greater-sacramento-area/103-47735993Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

From 1986 to 1990, a small community in Louisiana was shaken by a series of disappearances involving teenage girls and young women. By 1990, after multiple cases happened close together, people began to notice patterns. Some of the victims shared similar appearances. A few were last known to be using a phone, including public payphones, around the time they vanished. Some were the teenage daughters of military families stationed nearby. Others were new to the area. As the community tried to make sense of it, many believed the cases had to be connected. But over time, arrests would show something more complicated. These disappearances were not all the work of a single person. Some of these cases have since been solved. Others remain cold. And one woman is still missing. Her name is Bambi. Today, I’m focusing on her case. But to understand it, we also have to look at the others, where they stand, what connects them, and what does not. Because it raises a bigger question. How did a town of just five thousand people experience this much loss in such a short period of time?TIPS: Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 238-7248. On November 1, 1999, Dayton Police Officer Kevin Brame spent an unexpected evening with his two sons and his family. His estranged wife had called to say the boys were hoping to see him, and he never passed up a chance to be with them, especially as everyone was adjusting to life during the separation. He got the boys home in time for baths and bed on a school night, and stayed a little while to set up the new video game he had bought them earlier. Later, he planned to head back to the apartment he had just moved into eight days before, a place he was still in the middle of renovating. As he walked out toward his car, someone stepped from the bushes in front of the home and shot Kevin in the neck, killing him. Kevin had served six years with the Dayton Police Department, following in the footsteps of his father, a retired detective. His murder struck deeply within the department, not just as a case to solve, but as the loss of one of their own. More than twenty five years later, the city of Dayton and Kevin’s family are still searching for answers.TIPS: Miami Valley Crimestoppers (937) 222-STOP or www.justiceforkevinbrame.com Case In part 1 we discussed Molly, the days leading up to her abduction, the aftermath of the search, and the work her family is done to not only find resolution in her case but to help other families as well. We left off in May of 2003, with a hunter finding what looked to be a torn piece of a blue bathing suit and how that would lead to the discovery of Molly’s remains nearly three years after she went missing. In this episode, we’ll pick up from there and discuss all that has gone into the homicide investigation, the many suspects who have been brought up, and where the case stands as of this recording.TIPS: anonymous tip line at 508-453-7575 or via email at worcesterDAunresolved@mass.govCase suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastHeather Bish TikTok:https://www.tiktok.com/@heatherkbish?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc Molly Bish Foundation: https://www.mollybishfoundation.com/Source Material:https://www.cbsnews.com/news/molly-bish-massachusetts-unsolved-murder-48-hours/https://www.masslive.com/worcester/2021/09/who-killed-molly-bish-a-closer-look-at-three-men-investigators-have-looked-over-the-years.html&subscribed=google-oauth2%7C106100844798004347006https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/woman-believes-sisters-killer-is-involved-in-bish-piirainen-cases/https://www.masslive.com/worcester/2021/09/who-killed-molly-bish-a-closer-look-at-three-men-investigators-have-looked-over-the-years.html&subscribed=google-oauth2%7C106100844798004347006https://www.masslive.com/news/2011/11/gerald_battistoni_man_eyed_in.htmlhttps://www.masslive.com/worcester/2021/06/how-is-the-new-person-of-interest-in-molly-bishs-killing-connected-criminal-profiler-says-some-things-about-francis-sumner-sr-stand-out.htmlhttps://www.masslive.com/news/worcester/2014/10/molly_bish_still_searching_for.htmlhttps://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/woman-believes-sisters-killer-is-involved-in-bish-piirainen-cases/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

Its June of 2000 and sixteen-year-old Molly Bish is on day eight of her new job. Fulfilling the role her brother held the summer before, she’s the lifeguard at the local pond in her tiny New England town. In the short window of time between her mother dropping her off and the first kids arriving for swim lessons that day, Molly disappears. When a large-scale search of both the water and nearby land turns up no sign of her, everyone fears the worst and some troubling circumstances in the days leading up to her vanishing paint a terrifying picture for what could have happened.Three years later, those worst fears were confirmed when an observant hunter found something that would lead to the tragic discovery of Molly’s remains. Ever since this time, Molly’s loving family has worked tirelessly to keep her story out there and get answers. They have become advocates for other people in their shoes and have done so much good for the world in the wake of their own unimaginable personal tragedy. All along the way detectives on the case have been trying to find the person who did this, and many people along the way seemed to have fit the part, only to later be found unconnected. The last five years have yielded a promising suspect, but Molly’s family is still navigating the space of uncertainty and having many unanswered questions. Molly’s family has made a commitment to not allow one man’s evil undo or overshadow the memories and legacy of Molly. And I hope to carry that message as I share her story with you this week. Part 1 is 4/13/2026 and covers everything until the search for Molly's ends in heartbreak. Part 2 is 4/14/2026 and will pick up where episode 1 left off until current day. In the late summer of 1973, a graduate student is living alone in an off-campus apartment, taking summer classes to get ahead. She’s well known on campus, the kind of person who’s involved in everything. She’s also a gifted musician with a lot going for her. After a day spent socializing, her night ends with a short walk home, what should have been just a 60 foot stroll across her apartment courtyard. But by the next day, no one can get in touch with her. That evening, a friend goes to check on her apartment and walks into a nightmare. Tess had been the victim of a violent homicide. Over the years, the case has moved in different directions. There have been leads that seemed promising at the time, but definitive answers have stayed out of reach. For decades, her murder has stayed with this small college town. And for nearly 15 years, one former classmate has been working to keep her story in front of people, hoping someone will finally come forward with information.TIPS: Maryville Police Dept at (660) 562-3209Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSources:https://justicefortess.com/https://academicworks.cuny.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3090&context=gc_etdshttps://defrostingcoldcases.com/open-letter-from-m-holmes-re-tess-hilt/https://defrostingcoldcases.com/remembering-teresa-tess-sue-hilt/https://www.facebook.com/TeresaSueHiltTributePagehttps://www.nwmissourinews.com/news/article_f2b1cbfe-b314-11ef-92ec-a3c5c678ec5e.htmlhttps://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-maryville-co-ed-fo/194858231/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-kansas-city-times-college-co-ed-foun/194858498/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-gazette-talking-with-everyone/194880807/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-stabbed-numerous-t/194881067/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-stabbed-multiple-t/194887485/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-daily-standard-woman-student-slain/194887573/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-gazette-no-suspects-in-invest/194887670/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-interview-friends/194888558/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-gazette-polygraph-clears-yout/194891736/https://www.newspapers.com/article/washington-missourian-autopsy/194892890/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-interview-50-in-mu/194916025/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-kansas-city-times-sedalia-murder-sla/194916440/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-kansas-city-times-sedalia-victim-was/194917043/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-maryville-daily-forum-rumorsproposa/194917302/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-maryville-daily-forum-man-wanted-for/194919990/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-chillicothe-constitution-tribune-see/194920085/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-maryville-daily-forum-hilt-tape/194920747/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-maryville-daily-forum-full-autopsy/194921434/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-still-seeking-lead/194923469/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-6-month-mark-22/194928488/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-chillicothe-constitution-tribune-dr/194929104/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-maryville-daily-forum-student-refuse/194929715/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-1-year-mark/194935124/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-kansas-city-star-helen-hansan/194936022/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-kansas-city-star-tess-hilt-kc-start/194936977/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-kansas-city-star-2012-piece-22/194938464/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-reheating-a-cold-c/194938558/https://www.newspapers.com/article/st-joseph-news-press-2016-piece-22/194938686/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.
