In July of 1997, an avid runner spent the afternoon running errands before driving into Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest to map out a 10K route as part of her marathon training. When she didn't return home by nightfall, her husband knew something was wrong. Friends, family, and volunteers quickly began searching the trails, believing she may have been injured somewhere along her run. But after an extensive search turned up no sign of Amy, investigators began to consider that she may no longer be in forest at all and that her disappearance was the result of foul play.As the investigation unfolded, attention turned to Amy's husband. His actions in the days after her disappearance and his limited cooperation with investigators led to years of public debate. Some believed he had been unfairly judged, while others felt there were too many unanswered questions to ignore. At the same time, investigators never ruled out the possibility that Amy had crossed paths with a stranger. That theory gained renewed attention years later when a suspected serial killer was placed in Lander around the time Amy disappeared.Nearly 30 years later, Amy Wroe Bechtel's disappearance remains one of Wyoming's most enduring mysteries. Was she harmed by someone she knew, or did she become the victim of a chance encounter while out on a training run? After decades of investigation, no one has been able to explain what happened after Amy set out that afternoon.TIPS:Fremont County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 332-5611Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://www.runnersworld.com/runners-stories/a20817705/long-gone-girl/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-woman-missing-in-lan/200429526/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-still-missing/200430796/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-continues-12/200430921/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-continues-22/200430941/https://www.newspapers.com/article/jackson-hole-news-searchers-look-for-wom/200435733/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-photo-of-search/200436172/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-prepare-to-scale-bac/200436214/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-photo-of-run/200436391/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-scale-back-22/200436428/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-scaled-back/200436799/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-continues-in/200436937/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-search-continues-in/200437085/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-steve-b-pic/200437353/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-timeline-12/200437406/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-timeline-22/200437519/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-interview-family-and/200438166/https://www.newspapers.com/article/jackson-hole-news-10k-reward/200438235/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-louis-lake/200438383/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-foul-play-possibl/200439019/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-bechtel-home-searche/200439804/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-house-searched-22/200440109/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-investigation-contin/200440439/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-sb-attorney-slams-fr/200440759/https://www.newspapers.com/article/jackson-hole-news-questioned-by-fbi/200440972/ https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-atty-hired-2/200441111/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-funding-for-sheriff/200476208/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-support-of-steve/200476345/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-still-no-clues-al/200476389/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-nothing-incriminatin/200480027/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-waiting-on-results-f/200480258/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-tracking-seminar/200480355/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-satellite/200480598/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-intensive-probe-45-d/200480696/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-intensive-probe-45-d/200480793/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-two-fundraisers/200480907/ https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-sightings-12/200480976/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-family-tensions-12/200481192/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-family-22/200481610/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-hopes-dim-12/200481634/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-investigation-misste/200481909/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-letters-for-steve/200482037/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-searching-for-stalke/200482203/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-more-support-of-stev/200482318/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-mine-shaft/200482614/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-strain-between-husba/200561798/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-talk-show/200561855/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-jackson-hole-guide-florida-sighting/200561890/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-one-year-later/200562386/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-authorities-plan-to/200563192/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-3-years/200563253/https://www.newspapers.com/article/casper-star-tribune-3-years-rumors/200563321/https://www.amazon.com/Rivers-Blood-Robert-Scott/dp/0786019964 Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

In early 2006, a 30-year-old woman in Tallahassee was four months pregnant and navigating a tricky time in her life. Cautiously optimistic about welcoming her rainbow baby, she was also going through some personal troubles. Her and her husband had been separated for a few months and she was casually seeing another man, whom she was breaking things off with to work on her marriage and prepare for the arrival of the baby. After a regular day of working her 9-5 office job followed by her side gig at a grocery store bakery, she headed home to get off her feet. That was the last anyone saw her. Even though she was normally in touch with friends, family, and co-workers every single day, a series of events led her to not be reported missing for a few days. The investigation revealed persons of interest, clues around a late night telephone call, and a missed counseling appointment. All of these things paved the way for theories. Finally, fifteen years after her disappearance, more of what happened that night came into light but it still hasn’t been enough to close the case.TIPS: Big Bend Crime Solvers Anonymous Line: (850) 574-TIPS (7477)Tallahassee Police Dept (850) 891-4200Big Bend Cold Case Task Force: (850) 410-7611Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSouce Material:https://www.wctv.tv/2021/10/11/unsolved-florida-ali-gilmore-case-15-years-later/https://charleyproject.org/case/ali-iisha-gilmoreMore Newspapers.com to be uploaded Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

While recently covering the disappearance of Branson Perry, I briefly discussed the murder of his cousin's wife, Bobbie Jo Stinnett, a victim of the rare and devastating crime known as fetal abduction. That conversation led me to a discussion with returning podcast guest and retired Bronx Homicide Detective Robert Klein, who investigated a remarkably similar case in 2015.In this episode, Rob joins me to discuss the murder of 22-year-old Angelikque Sutton, a young mother-to-be whose life was stolen just days before she was due to give birth. Fetal abduction cases are incredibly rare, but when they do happen, they leave devastation that reaches far beyond the immediate victim. We discuss Angelikque's case, the deception that often surrounds these crimes, and the patterns investigators have observed across similar cases over the years. We also discuss the striking parallels between Angelikque's case and the recent Netflix documentary Maternal Instinct, and how understanding these patterns may help prevent future tragedies.IG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Other episodes wtih Detective Robert Klein:A Conversation with Detective Klein The Unsolved Murder of Solomon Robinson The Solved Murder of Jasmine Porter Source Material:https://www.missingkids.org/theissues/infantabductionshttps://www.missingkids.org/blog/2026/maternal-instinct-shines-light-on-rare-but-real-crime-of-fetal-abductionhttps://abc7ny.com/post/vigil-held-to-remember-pregnant-woman-murdered-in-the-bronx-family-grateful-for-babys-life-/1097085/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-daily-news-112115/199863631/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-daily-news-112215/199863990/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-church-of-heavy-hearts/199864544/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-vigil/199864999/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-funeral/199865232/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-sat-dec-5th-held-without-bail/199865321/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-trial-1/199865635/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-angel-praylow/199867308/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-i-thought-baby-was-mine/199867996/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-words-that-kill/199868929/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-journal-news-woman-convicted/199868972/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-40-to-life/199869011/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

When we think about the natural order of life, we expect that one day we'll have to say goodbye to our parents and grandparents. It doesn't make that loss any easier, but it's a reality most of us understand is likely to come. What we don't expect is for a younger family member to die before their time. The grief of losing a child or grandchild is something most people can't imagine, and if it happens once, you hope it's the only tragedy of that kind your family will ever have to endure. But today's story is about a grandmother who faced that heartbreak again and again. In a farming town of fewer than 200 people, JoAnn Stinnett faced tragedy tied to violence three separate times. The case we'll be focusing on today is that of her grandson, Branson Perry, a young man who stepped outside for what should have been a routine task and was never seen again. In discussing his case, we will also talk about the others. Over the years, the town of Skidmore, Missouri has become known for a series of tragic and unusual events that have drawn national attention. The town has developed a reputation that extends far beyond its small size. But behind every headline is a real person and a family left to pick up the pieces. For the past 25 years, Branson's loved ones have lived with unanswered questions, searching for an explanation for what happened after he walked out of sight. Just after the start of the New Year in 1996, two women are found brutally stabbed to death in their own homes in city of Clarksville, TN just days apart. This came only a month after another woman had been found stabbed to death in her Clarksville home. That case would eventually get solved, while the other two are still waiting for answers. Outside of the local area, these cases have not received a ton of coverage. And because so little is known, its never been clear if the cases are connected. Today I’ll walk you through what is known and the theories that are out there, in the hopes that it jogs someone's memory and provides information that could help solve one or both of these cases.TIPS: Clarksville Crimestoppers contact 931-645-TIPS, or go to www.p3tips.comBoth cases have a 10k reward for information leading to an arrest.Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://projectcoldcase.org/2022/09/19/felicia-carson/https://law.justia.com/cases/tennessee/court-of-criminal-appeals/2011/m2011-00226-cca-r3-cd.htmlhttps://www.findagrave.com/memorial/1277663/carolyn-tina-vega_velazquezhttps://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-azuria-johnson/199043072/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-connections-studied-1/199044879/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-carolyn-vega-velasque/199046769/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-cvv-remembered-as-lea/199048388/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-connections-22/199049507/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-azuria-johnson/199100667/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-police-believe-no-con/199101737/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-cpd-rejects-link/199103041/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-tennessean-college-studnet-found-sta/199103136/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-tennessean-obit-felicia/199103402/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-murders-have-communit/199103509/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-community-on-alert-bu/199103729/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-commercial-appeal-campus-fear/199103961/https://www.newspapers.com/article/elizabethton-star-three-recent-slayings/199104239/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-felicia-carson-seek-l/199104331/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-special-task-force-1/199104488/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-special-task-force-2/199104845/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-brother-bill-denmark/199105843/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-another-case-4/199106661/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-carson-reward-12/199106776/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-carson-reward-22/199106933/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-six-unsolved-murders/199107430/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-brother-to-paper/199107890/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-serial-killer-reid/199109009/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-police-seek-murders-c/199109417/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-red-carpet-lounge/199109774/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-two-arrested-in-slayi/199111137/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-leaf-chronicle-vega-velasquez/199111185Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

In April of 1985, a Montana man is working multiple jobs to save money and pursue his dreams. After getting off one job, he went straight to his second job to deliver pizzas. As he approached a regular looking house for delivery, he would have no idea that he was walking into a trap. His own brother would be the first responder who showed up to the house, a scene that has never left him. The investigation produced many suspects, some wrong turns, and closed in closely on a violent repeat offender. But nobody has ever been arrested for this calculated crime and investigators believe its highly likely that more than one person was involved or knows information. More than 40 years later, it could take just one small clue or person coming forward to solve this case.TIPS: call Det. Just before Memorial Day weekend in 1978, a college student visited a residence hall on the campus of Kent State University. Photos from that night show her smiling and laughing with friends, wearing a playful wig as part of a costume she put on to prank her friends. But sometime after midnight, she left the dorm room to make what should have been a short walk back to her own dorm, a distance reported to be only a few hundred yards. She never made it.In the days and years that followed, the investigation into her disappearance would take countless turns. There were rumors, reported sightings, psychics, and even speculation surrounding a convicted killer believed to have been living in the area at the time. Now, decades later, the case is receiving renewed attention and those taking a fresh look at Judy’s disappearance wonder whether the answers may be with the people she was last with on campus.TIPS: U.S. Marshals at 1-866-4WANTEDCase suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://www.record-courier.com/story/news/crime/2018/05/24/i-think-about-her/12078184007/https://www.pbs.org/video/vital-pages-what-happened-to-judy-martins-8ajtk9/https://www.pbswesternreserve.org/blogs/luminus-stories-about-us/we-never-stopped-looking-the-search-for-judy-martins-continues/https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Files/Law-Enforcement/Investigator/Ohio-Missing-Persons/Missing-Adults-1/Martinshttps://charleyproject.org/case/judy-martinshttps://websleuths.com/threads/oh-judy-martins-22-kent-24-may-1978.51675/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-galion-inquirer-kent-state-coed-is-m/198060107/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-cleveland-press-statewide-alert-issu/198100884/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-information-sou/198100911/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-cleveland-press-cleveland-area-co-ed/198101056/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-missing-coed-in/198101711/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-plain-dealer-police-plan-to-use-a-he/198106023/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-tribune-more-on-mexico/198107030/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-garage-sale-dea/198108726/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-no-new-leads/198109904/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-1980-nearly-two-years/198110818/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-10k-offered/198111688/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-posey-isnt-lin/198111752/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-ksu-reward-ends/198111832/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-posey-caught/198111879/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-plain-dealer-where-is-judy-martins/198112109/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-plain-dealer-where-is-judy-martins-p/198114566/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-plain-dealer-where-is-judy-page-3/198114660/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-plain-dealer-god-let-it-be/198115878/https://darkdowneast.com/irisbrown/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

In February of 1996, a pregnant woman is attacked in her Bronx apartment with her young son as a witness to the brutal crime. The case seems like it is going to be solved early on when a witness comes forward and names who they say did this. But as quickly as this comes together, it falls apart and the case goes cold for over two decades. That was until a series of events lands the case in the hands of Bronx Homicide Detective Robert Klein who starts reworking the case from the beginning. The investigation into Jasmine’s murder perfectly illustrates how nothing is as seen on TV. Detective Klein’s thoughts on who did it weaved in and out of different people in Jasmine’s social circle as he reinterviewed key people. That was until a DNA hit revealed a name that was nowhere in the police file and uncovered a monster who had terrorized the women of Davidson Avenue for years. In 2003, a young couple heads into the remote desert of Yavapai County to celebrate their anniversary. They only had time for a quick overnight trip, so they decided to spend the evening together beneath the stars, camping in the back of a pickup truck. But when the two failed to show up to obligations the next morning, friends began to worry. Because the couple had shared their camping plans with people close to them, the friends and family searching for them had a starting point on where to look for them and locate the truck. And when they approached it, they walked into the worst-case scenario. Nearby, a damaged disposable camera was recovered that appeared to have been intentionally destroyed. Despite that attempt, police were still able to process the film inside. Out of all the photos recovered, three images in particular immediately stood out to investigators.More than twenty years later, people are still asking the same question: were those three photographs an important clue to what happened that night, or a red herring that sent investigators down the wrong path?TIPS: Yavapai Silent Witness is offering up to a $10,000 cash reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case. One night in the spring of 1981, a North Dakota teenager didn’t come home. Sometimes when it feels like someone has vanished into thin air, there are very few leads to go on. And for many of the decades that followed, that’s how this case appeared to people outside the local area. There was one clear last sighting of Barb, and then she was gone. But as the case was revisited and looked at more closely by her family, an investigative podcaster, and members of the community, it became clear that there had always been quiet talk about what may have happened to her. A mysterious boyfriend. A killer passing through town. And clues that pointed closer to home. In this episode, I talk through those pieces with Barb’s younger sister, Kathy, and share what has been uncovered, along with where the case stands today, 45 years later.TIPS:Williston Police Department (North Dakota) 1-701-577-1212Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:Interview: Kathy N - Barb's sisterhttps://findbarbcotton.com/https://dakotaspotlight.com/barbara-cotton-disappearance/https://crimeblogger1983.blogspot.com/https://charleyproject.org/case/barbara-louise-cottonhttps://www.findagrave.com/memorial/83582081/stacey_demarr-werderhttps://medium.com/@gabulosis/barbara-cotton-a-family-is-still-searching-for-answers-over-4-decades-later-31a52cabaf80https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-bismarck-tribune-williston-woman-won/195052811/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dickinson-press-williston-woman-stil/195044356/https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/12197903/franklin_leonard-cottonhttps://www.missingkids.org/poster/NCMC/796102/1Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.
