On November 1, 1999, Dayton Police Officer Kevin Brame spent an unexpected evening with his two sons and his family. His estranged wife had called to say the boys were hoping to see him, and he never passed up a chance to be with them, especially as everyone was adjusting to life during the separation. He got the boys home in time for baths and bed on a school night, and stayed a little while to set up the new video game he had bought them earlier. Later, he planned to head back to the apartment he had just moved into eight days before, a place he was still in the middle of renovating. As he walked out toward his car, someone stepped from the bushes in front of the home and shot Kevin in the neck, killing him. Kevin had served six years with the Dayton Police Department, following in the footsteps of his father, a retired detective. His murder struck deeply within the department, not just as a case to solve, but as the loss of one of their own. More than twenty five years later, the city of Dayton and Kevin’s family are still searching for answers.
