Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.

Hey everyone, welcome back to the Year in the Bible podcast. My name is Beth and I'm here with my co host Alexa.

[Alexa]

Hey everyone. Today we're going to talk about the application day of this week's study and just share a little bit about what stood out to us personally and some ways we plan on applying this week's passage to our lives.

[Beth]

Yeah, I'm so excited about today. Do you want to share what stood out to you this week Alexa?

[Alexa]

Yeah, absolutely. So I wanna talk a little bit more about something I thought of in Monday's study and in Monday's episode and that is that I feel like we really see Jesus's heart for us. Not only his love for us that led him to die for us, but also his heart and wanting to give us knowledge. I'm still meditating on Luke 24 and how Jesus took the time to open his disciples minds and show them how the Old Testament is about him and help them see how he has fulfilled what the Old Testament promises. And so I've been thinking about how Jesus opens our own eyes to the truth of the Gospel in our hearts to receive the truth of the Gospel. But he also opens our minds to see and grasp what Scripture says about him and how all of Scripture points to Him. And I think what Christ does for us in opening our minds is going to be something that impacts how I go about my Bible study.

[Beth]

Oh yeah, that's a cool point. But in what way is that going to impact how you do your Bible study?

[Alexa]

Well so I think this first week has already made me really excited about seeing Jesus in all of scripture. But I also know that I'm not going to be able to do that well all of the time. I know there'll be times when I open my Bible and I'm struggling to see how what I'm reading points to Christ. Or maybe I end up rushing in my time in God's Word and don't actually take a moment to stop and consider whatever it is that I'm Reading like, how that's connected to Christ. So in other words, I know that I'm going to fail, but I. I feel like this past week has given me not just excitement, but also relief, perhaps when it comes to Bible study, because I know that I have Jesus's help. I can ask him to open my mind and to give me understanding. And I know that even if I ask that of Jesus, and I still don't quite understand in that moment, I know that as I continue to open my Bible and read God's Word, Jesus is going to grow the understanding over time.

[Beth]

What a good reminder. I know that my tendency is to think that I am supposed to know everything and have all the answers right away when I'm studying Scripture, but that's actually missing the point of the whole Christian faith. We need Jesus for literally everything, including studying the Bible.

[Alexa]

Yeah, right. I don't want to open my Bible and think, okay, I needed to discover where Jesus is all on my own and in all of my own strength. And I also don't think that I need to feel discouraged if I couldn't quite see where Jesus was in the passage that I read that day. I can go into my time in God's Word, depending on Christ and asking for his help and wisdom. And then I can leave my time feeling at peace, knowing that even if I struggled a bit, Jesus continues to be gracious toward me and he is going to continue to help me.

Wow. What an encouraging reminder. Alexa, thank you so much for sharing all that you have found. As far as application goes in these passages, I'm sure that that's going to be really helpful and encouraging for our listeners. So every Friday, after we spend some time talking about application of the passage, we're also going to share some prayer prompts for you. And these are designed for you to use at the end of your study time. At the end of the week to really take the passages and not just think about them, but also take them to God and take the application that you found to God and really spend some time just in prayer and spending time with the Lord. And I will do this every single Friday is we'll give you the prayer prompt and then we'll give you about 30 seconds to just sit through and pray through the prompt if you want to at this time. But you also can just write them down and then pray them later on your own as well. So you could do either that you want.
