Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year, we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ in All of Scripture. Each week, we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
B
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but with the center of it. Hi, friends. Welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host, Beth.
A
Hi, everyone. Today we're going to be talking about how we plan to apply all that we have learned this week. So, Alexa, what were your takeaways from studying these passages?
B
You know, one of the biggest takeaways for me came from the first question in this application day that asks, in what ways do you accurately represent the character of your father, God, in your everyday life? I felt like this question was a bit of a gut punch because I'm sure that I don't accurately represent God's character that well. Daily I do try to be obedient to God and, you know, ask him to work through me to be patient and kind and forgiving. But so often I'm prone to complain, be short with my words rather than kind, or selfishly want to withhold forgiveness rather than extend it. What about you, Beth?
A
How.
B
How did you answer this question?
A
Yeah, so I actually wrote this week in this question. And I remember even back then when I wrote it, how convicting it was to even just think of the concept of imaging God well. And it is just as convicting now as it was back then. I really don't image God well in so many ways. So often I am judgmental towards others. It's easy for me to hold grudges. And don't even get me started on my tendency toward pride. None of those things reflect God's nature. So, yeah, I'm. I'm with you.
B
Yeah. And so in light of all of that, I am just so glad that in the midst of our failures to accurately represent God's character, that Jesus was the perfect representation for us. Even though it's good to be reminded of the ways we fall short to represent God's character, we don't have to live in shame because of those failures. Because we know that we have received God's grace, grace and forgiveness through Christ. And because we have God's grace and forgiveness, God doesn't look down on us for failing to image him well in the world. He isn't a cruel father, but a compassionate Father who extends to us grace and mercy at all times, especially in our failures. So this week challenged me to seek to represent God's character in my daily life, but also to rest in my relationship that I have with him through Christ. Because of Christ, I have been adopted into God's family. I am his daughter and he is my Father. And that intimate and loving relationship I have with God will never change, even when I fall short. And that relationship that I have with him motivates me to keep representing him well in the world.
A
Yes, for sure. That grace that we have through Christ is where we can find assurance that we will actually image God perfectly when we reach the new creation. And until then, Christ is sanctifying us every day, making us more like him day by day, moment by moment. So let's spend some time in prayer today over these things. Alexa is going to walk us through just a few prayer prompts.
B
Thank Jesus for being the ultimate firstborn son. Ask Jesus to help you be like him by representing God's character accurately in your daily life. Pray that you will rest in God's grace and your identity as Child of God when you fall short of representing God's character well. Foreign thanks so much for joining us today.
