Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but with the center of it.
Beth
Hey everyone, welcome back to another episode of Year in the Bible. My name is Beth and I am here with my co host Alexa. Hey friends, Today we are going to be talking about how we are planning on applying what we've learned this week from Exodus 17, 1:7 and 1 Corinthians 10 1:4 so Alexa, do you want to share your application takeaways?
Alexa
Yes, this week has made me a bit convicted about how easy it is for me to seek satisfaction apart from Christ. Yesterday we talked about how Exodus 17, 1:7 and 1 Corinthians 10:1:4 point us to the ultimate provision that we have in Christ. Because Christ meets all of our spiritual needs. He is the only one who truly satisfies us. But man, how easy is it for me to know that Jesus is the one who satisfies me. But I still look to other things for satisfaction. Pretty recent I realized that I place a lot of satisfaction in experiences. I moved from Seattle to outside of Philadelphia last year and it's taken me a long time to feel content with that change. I was thinking the other day that I'm feeling more comfortable and settled, which is really great. But it's still really easy for me to make comparisons between where I live now and where I used to live, causing me to want to have the same things that I had there. So living in the city of Seattle, I was super used to going to coffee shops, bookstores, and good restaurants like pretty often. And I was super used to going on lots of hikes and just being in nature often. And it's not like I don't have any of those things here. It's just my experience of those things is different and how often I'm experienced with those things has changed. So I feel like God is doing a work in my heart to help me not go from experience to experience in order to feel satisfied. Like I don't need a quality cup of coffee every week to feel satisfied. I don't need to do a bunch of fun things in my area or travel to places around me in order to feel satisfied. Because I have Jesus and all that I truly need in Him, I can be content and satisfied regardless of my circumstances and experiences. What about you, Beth? Do you struggle with that in any way?
Beth
Yeah, definitely. I really appreciate your honesty and vulnerability there. It's just so easy to talk about finding satisfaction in Christ, but it's much harder to actually do it. Especially in jobs like ours where we're constantly reminded of the truth through our work of studying Scripture. Constantly. You would think that we would be good at this by now, but no. I'm I am in the exact same boat. I noticed that I do not fully trust Christ as my sustenance and satisfaction, especially by how annoyed I can get at very minor inconveniences. I think that's where I notice it the most, like sitting in traffic or when my toddler wakes up too early from her nap. I just get so frustrated and I start to throw these like huge pity parties for myself when it's like the tiniest thing, when I really should just turn to Christ and trust that he is my strength, he is my satisfaction, and that I don't need my life to be totally perfect all of the time. Well, it's that time again for us to once again close out the week with a time of prayer. Alexa is going to lead us through a few prompts, so take a moment after each one to bring your heart to the Lord.
Alexa
Praise God for meeting your greatest need, your need for salvation through Christ. Ask God to help you trust in his physical provision as you rest in his spiritual provision. Pray that you will look to Jesus alone to satisfy you.
Beth
Foreign.

Title: Applying Exodus 17:1-7 & 1 Corinthians 10:1-4
Release Date: March 21, 2025
Podcast: A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace
Hosts: Beth and Alexa
In this episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, hosts Beth and Alexa delve into the practical applications of two significant Scripture passages: Exodus 17:1-7 and 1 Corinthians 10:1-4. The discussion centers on understanding how these verses highlight the ultimate satisfaction and provision found in Christ, emphasizing the challenge of relying solely on Him amidst everyday struggles.
Alexa begins by expressing her personal conviction about the ease of seeking fulfillment outside of Christ. She reflects on how Exodus 17:1-7 and 1 Corinthians 10:1-4 illustrate that Jesus is the ultimate provider who meets all spiritual needs. However, Alexa confesses, "Man, how easy is it for me to know that Jesus is the one who satisfies me. But I still look to other things for satisfaction" (00:52).
She shares her recent experience of moving from Seattle to near Philadelphia, highlighting the difficulty in adjusting and finding contentment without comparing her new surroundings to her previous life. Alexa notes, "I realize that I place a lot of satisfaction in experiences... I'm feeling more comfortable and settled, which is really great. But it's still really easy for me to make comparisons between where I live now and where I used to live" (01:10).
This introspection leads her to recognize God's work in her heart, helping her rely less on external experiences and more on Jesus for true satisfaction. She concludes, "I have Jesus and all that I truly need in Him, I can be content and satisfied regardless of my circumstances and experiences" (02:00).
Beth appreciates Alexa's honesty and vulnerability, relating to the struggle of finding satisfaction in Christ despite regularly engaging with Scripture. She admits, "I do not fully trust Christ as my sustenance and satisfaction, especially by how annoyed I can get at very minor inconveniences" (02:41). Beth identifies specific scenarios where her trust falters, such as dealing with traffic or her toddler waking up early, leading to unnecessary frustration.
She acknowledges the challenge of consistently turning to Christ for strength and satisfaction, especially when life isn't perfect. Beth emphasizes the importance of trusting in Christ's provision over seeking perfection, stating, "I just really should just turn to Christ and trust that he is my strength, he is my satisfaction, and that I don't need my life to be totally perfect all of the time" (02:41).
To conclude the episode, Beth and Alexa lead listeners in a time of prayer, focusing on the themes discussed. Alexa provides prayer prompts aimed at reinforcing trust in Christ's provision:
Christ as Ultimate Provider: Both Scripture passages reinforce that Jesus meets all spiritual needs, serving as the central figure throughout the Bible.
Personal Struggles with Satisfaction: The hosts candidly discuss their own challenges in finding contentment solely in Christ, highlighting common human tendencies to seek fulfillment in experiences or circumstances.
Trusting in Imperfection: Emphasizing that life doesn't have to be perfect to find satisfaction in Christ, encouraging listeners to rely on His strength during daily inconveniences and changes.
Prayerful Reflection: The episode concludes with actionable prayer steps to internalize the lesson and cultivate deeper trust in Christ's provision.
Alexa on seeking satisfaction apart from Christ:
"Man, how easy is it for me to know that Jesus is the one who satisfies me. But I still look to other things for satisfaction." (00:52)
Beth on struggling to trust Christ fully:
"I do not fully trust Christ as my sustenance and satisfaction, especially by how annoyed I can get at very minor inconveniences." (02:41)
In this episode, Beth and Alexa offer a heartfelt exploration of finding true satisfaction in Christ, acknowledging their personal struggles and encouraging listeners to deepen their reliance on Jesus. Through honest dialogue and reflective prayer, they guide the audience in applying biblical truths to everyday life, fostering a more profound connection with God.
