Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it.
Beth
Hi friends. Hey friends. Welcome back to A Year in the Bible. I'm Beth and I'm here with my co host Alexa.
Alexa
Hey everyone.
Beth
Today we are going to be making the Christ connection between the passages we've read this week. Galatians 3:1014 and Deuteronomy 11:2632. So Alexa, what can we learn about these two passages and how they connect to Christ?
Alexa
Yeah, I thought I would start by giving some context for the book of Galatians. In the annotation day yesterday, one of the prompts asked why the author of Galatians is writing to this group of people if you didn't get the opportunity to do that or just want a refresher. Paul is writing to the church in Galatia. This church is experiencing teachers who are essentially saying that you need to be circumcised in order to receive salvation. Paul responds to the situation by reminding the Galatians that they have been released from the ceremonial law. In other words, they don't need to be circumcised to receive salvation. And he reminds them that it's not by any works of the law that we are saved. We are saved through faith in Christ, he writes in Galatians 2:16. Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ. So we also have believed in Christ Jesus in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law. Because by works of the law no one is justified.
Beth
Yeah, that's so interesting. So how does this background help us better understand the passage from Galatians 3 that we annotated yesterday?
Alexa
So in light of what Paul has been saying to the Galatians, in Galatians 3:1014, Paul reminds the Galatians that if you rely on the works of the law to save you, you are under a curse because the law can't save you. No one can truly keep everything that the law says, and we see that through the Israelites story time after time. Again, they failed to uphold God's law. And so what God told the Israelites in Deuteronomy 11:26 32 came true for them as they were cursed for their disobedience, eventually going on to experience exile for their sin. Their failure to abide by the law and our own failure to abide by the law as humans means that we are cursed. We receive judgment for our sin that no amount of obedience can remove. But this is where Jesus comes in. God doesn't leave us cursed because of our sin. He sent Jesus who took on the curse for our sin on our behalf on the cross. He was punished for our sake and because of his sacrifice. We receive blessing in the place of cursing. We are declared forgiven and brought into a relationship with God. So the blessing we receive does not come from any obedience of our own, but Christ's perfect obedience. Like we talked about last week, he is the only one who is able to obey the law perfectly and it's through faith in him that we are able to receive salvation and the power to walk in God's commands.
Beth
I love that so much. I think the exchange that happens here that Jesus takes on the curse so that we can receive the blessing is such a helpful way of making sense of what happened on the cross. So is there anything else we can learn from this passage?
Alexa
Well, we also see that God's covenantal promises are fulfilled through Christ. We discussed on Tuesday how God chose the Israelites to be a nation for his own glory, who would be a blessing to the nations by their obedience to him, they failed. But where Israel failed, Jesus succeeded. Jesus is the one who fulfills both the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenant as he obeyed God's law perfectly and it's through his sacrifice that all the nations are able to be blessed. Because of Christ, anyone can place their faith in him and receive his salvation. And we see that in Galatians 3:14 the blessing of Abraham for the Gentiles comes through Christ.
Beth
So good. I love seeing all that continuity between the Old Testament story and the New Testament story. Really, really cool. Well, thanks so much for sharing all of that, Alexa and friends. We will wrap up this week of study tomorrow, so be sure to join us as we talk about how we plan to apply all that we've learned so far this week.

A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace
Season 4, Week 18, Day 4: Connecting Deuteronomy 11:26-32 & Galatians 3:10-14
Release Date: May 1, 2025
Hosts: Beth & Alexa
In this episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, hosts Beth and Alexa delve into Season 4's study, "Christ in All of Scripture," focusing on the profound connections between Deuteronomy 11:26-32 and Galatians 3:10-14. This episode aims to illuminate how these passages from the Old and New Testaments intertwine to reveal the centrality of Jesus Christ in the biblical narrative.
Alexa begins by providing essential background on Paul's letter to the Galatians:
"Paul is writing to the church in Galatia. This church is experiencing teachers who are essentially saying that you need to be circumcised in order to receive salvation. Paul responds to the situation by reminding the Galatians that they have been released from the ceremonial law. ... we are saved through faith in Christ," (00:52).
Paul emphasizes that justification comes not through adherence to the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, a foundational theme in Galatians 3:10-14.
Beth and Alexa draw parallels between Paul's message and the Old Testament laws given to Israel:
"God chose the Israelites to be a nation for his own glory, who would be a blessing to the nations by their obedience to him, they failed. But where Israel failed, Jesus succeeded." (03:32).
Deuteronomy 11:26-32 outlines the blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience, highlighting the impossibility of perfectly keeping the law—a reality Israel repeatedly faced.
The crux of the episode lies in illustrating how both passages point to Jesus Christ:
The Law and Its Limitations:
Christ as the Fulfillment of the Law:
Covenantal Promises Fulfilled:
Soteriology (Doctrine of Salvation):
The Nature of the Curse and Blessing:
Faith vs. Works:
In this enlightening episode, Beth and Alexa masterfully connect Deuteronomy 11:26-32 with Galatians 3:10-14, elucidating how these scriptures collectively underscore the indispensable role of Jesus Christ in fulfilling the law and securing salvation for humanity. By exploring the limitations of the law and the sufficiency of faith in Christ, the hosts encourage listeners to deepen their understanding and love for God, recognizing Christ's presence throughout the entirety of Scripture.
As they wrap up, Beth and Alexa invite listeners to continue their journey through the study, promising further applications and insights in the forthcoming episodes.
