Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.

Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it. Hi friends. Welcome back to another week of A year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm joined as always with my co host Beth.

Hey everyone. This week we are going to be studying Deuteronomy chapter 30, verse 6 in Romans 2:28. And we will learn that Jesus is the one who changes our hearts so that we can obey the Lord. So today we're going to start off the week with an annotation day on Deuteronomy chapter 30, verse 6, which says the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the hearts of your descendants, and you will love him with all your heart and all your soul so that you will live. So Alexa, tell us how this annotation day went for you.

It was good, but kind of hard at the same time. You know, we are only looking at one verse here in Deuteronomy, so that can make entertaining kind of hard so you don't have too much to look at. But I do think there are still things to note and I'm excited for when we get to talk about this verse in more detail tomorrow. For any words or phrases that point to Christ. I highlighted love him with all your heart and all your soul for two reasons. Because one, Jesus does that perfectly. He loves God with all his heart and soul. But then two, because Jesus says similar words in the Gospels when he is talking to the rich young ruler, we actually talked about one of those instances in the Gospels, Matthew 22, 37, 40 and the passage it connects to Deuteronomy 6, 4, 5 on week 17. So it's fun to see that language appear again. And the language of circumcision in the first part of the verse also made me think of Ezekiel 36, 26, in which God promises to give his people new hearts. And it's Jesus who ultimately fulfills that promise.

Wow, love that. So many cool connections already. A lot of things that I definitely would have thought of. So I'm really, really glad that you brought those out. And I can't wait to unpack these more as the week goes on too. Was there anything else that stood out to you in this verse?
Alexa (2:28)
Yeah, I really enjoyed seeing how God is the one who accomplishes what is being talked about in this verse. The fourth prompt asks us to circle the word will throughout the verse and we see this word appear three times so that repetition shows us that it's by God's actions and his faithfulness that his people will have circumcised hearts that will cause them to to love him and experience life. So what we see Here in Deuteronomy 30, verse 6 is a promise that God will be faithful to fulfill.
