Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but the center of it. Hi friends. Welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and we're here with my co host, Beth.
Beth
Hey everyone. We have been talking about Deuteronomy 36 of Romans 2, 28, 29 this week and how Jesus is the one who saves us and gives us a true heart change. So as we close out this week, we want to talk about applying what we learned. So Alexa, what are your application takeaways?
Alexa
Yeah, you know, this week convicted me over how easy it is to rely on something external to make you feel right with God and to have God's approval. That is what the Jews ended up doing. They wore their circumcision like a badge of honor that boasted of their relationship with God. And it's so easy to do that today as Christians in different ways. The study day today named church attendance and regular Bible reading as some examples. For me personally, it's ministry that often makes me feel like I have God's favor and approval. I know that ministry doesn't save me, but I do sometimes think that it's because of ministry work that I am more favorable in God's eyes. And if I'm honest, ministry can also make me feel like I am better than others. That because I'm doing this work for God that I'm somehow more holier than others. It's actually one of the temptations of doing the job we are so blessed to do at the Daily Grace Company. We spend our days in our Bibles writing material. We're speaking truth through podcasts such as this or videos that point people to the gospel. And it can be really easy to think it's because of that work that I'm approved by God. But while it's just an incredible blessing to do this work, this work and other ministry endeavors, they don't earn any kind of favor with God. While God cares about our actions, he is more concerned with our hearts. And that's what we've seen this week. That while the external work is still important, it's what's internal that matters more because it's out of a heart that loves God, that we serve him and others. But it can still be hard to not focus on the external work. I don't know about you Beth, do you struggle in similar ways?
Beth
Yes, for sure. I often forget that it is the Spirit who is actually working inside me to transform my heart from the inside out. When I do catch myself in patterns of sinful thoughts or behaviors, I'm tempted toward despair and I think that I can't ever overcome it. But these passages actually encourage me that God has promised to transform me through Christ and through His Spirit working in me so that I can trust that through his power he will actually fulfill that promise. So take a moment to slow down and give this week of study over to God as Alexa leads you through a few prayer prompts.
Alexa
Praise Jesus for changing your heart through the power of the Holy Spirit. Confess any ways in which you depend on your own work rather than Christ's grace for favor with God. Ask God to help you live obediently to him in light of the new heart you have through Christ. Thanks so much for joining us this week. Hey friend. I know how it feels waking up exhausted after multiple trips to the bathroom and feeling embarrassed by sudden leaks. I used to be constantly on edge searching for a restroom whenever I was out. Then I discovered better women. I was skeptical at first, but two months in, everything changed. I experienced improved bladder control, no more heart stopping moments when I laugh or sneeze, less urge to go deeper and more restful sleep. I finally felt like myself again, confident and in control. Better Woman is natural, effective and trusted by Women for over 25 years. Ready to take back your control?
