Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it. Hey everyone. Hello everyone. Welcome back to A Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host Beth.
Beth
Hi everyone. So far this week we have been studying Joshua 21, 43, 45 and Hebrews 4, 5, 11 and we've learned that God has been faithful to his promise of providing rest to his people and that that rest is found ultimately in Jesus Christ.
Alexa
Today we are going to look at how that truth can impact our everyday lives moving forward from this week. So Beth, how do you plan to apply these passages now?
Beth
I love how the paragraph on page 116 of the study introduces this application day. It reminds us of the fact that we have been given rest through Christ now, but that we are also still in a way ultimately waiting for our true and final rest in the new creation. I think that gave me two really good points of application moving forward. So first, I now know where to turn when I need comfort and rest in this life. Jesus himself said come to me all who are weary and and I will give you rest. And I don't know about you, but I'm often tired and weary. I've been talking a lot about all of the different roles that I play in my life right now. And so I'm a wife, I'm a mom, I'm a full time employee, I'm a small group leader, a friend, a sister, a daughter, and the list could actually go on. But on top of all of that I'm also very very pregnant. And so needless to say, I really crave rest right now. I am incredibly tired. So these passages bring me great comfort knowing that I can't perfectly work in all of these role that my working is not going to be the thing that brings me rest. I can only find that rest in Christ who doesn't ask me to be perfect but rather ask me to rely on him for strength and rest when I need it.
Alexa
Yeah, that's so good. I feel like I say to my husband daily, honestly even multiple times a day, I'M tired. And like you said, juggling different rules and responsibilities adds to that tiredness too. I'm often tempted to look for rest through worldly things. Like after a long day, I can't wait to binge watch episodes on couch while eating chocolate. And that's not a bad thing. You know, that does give rest. But I want to make sure that I'm ultimately looking to Jesus to give me rest, to come to him first when I'm feeling weary and overwhelmed and ask him to bring me peace. And what you said too, reminds me of just surrendering our days and our work to God. And that's what Sabbath looked like in the Bible. It would cause the the Israelites to stop their work and to trust God to provide for them. And what a reminder that rest is found when we surrender everything to God rather than trying to do everything in our own power. Okay, so what is the second point of application you want to discuss?
Beth
Ah, so secondly, I think that this gives me hope that when I still don't feel rested in this life, there is an even deeper rest that's coming my way when Jesus returns and restores all things. And this gives me strength to endure all of the difficulties that I might be facing right now. Because I know that not only is Christ with me now, sustaining me and offering me moments of rest, but he has promised that this weariness is temporary and that I will one day live in perfect eternal rest with him in the new creation.
Alexa
That's super encouraging, especially on the days when we feel like rest is just out of reach. Well, we're going to enter into a time of prayer right now, so just take a moment after each prayer prompt that Beth reads to come to the Lord in prayer.
Beth
Thank God for His faithfulness throughout history to provide true and lasting rest to his people. Bring any weariness you may be feeling right now to Christ. Ask him to remind you of the rest he offers and to give you strength and hope as you endure the trials of this life. Well, thank you all for joining us this week. Next week we will be talking about the freedom that Christ offers us from the cycles of sin in our lives and in this world. You really won't want to miss it. We'll see you then.

A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace: Season 4, Week 21 Day 5 Summary
Release Date: May 23, 2025
In the latest episode of "A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace," hosted by Alexa and Beth from The Daily Grace Co., listeners are guided through a profound exploration of Joshua 21:43-45 and Hebrews 4:5-11. This episode delves into God's unwavering faithfulness in providing rest to His people, ultimately pointing to the rest found in Jesus Christ.
The hosts begin by recapping the week's focus on the selected passages, emphasizing that God has remained faithful to His promise of providing rest to His people. They highlight that this rest is both a present reality and an anticipation of the ultimate rest in the new creation through Jesus Christ.
Beth [00:36]: "So far this week we have been studying Joshua 21, 43, 45 and Hebrews 4, 5, 11 and we've learned that God has been faithful to his promise of providing rest to his people and that that rest is found ultimately in Jesus Christ."
Alexa [00:17]: "We are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it."
The episode underscores God's consistent faithfulness in fulfilling His promises across both the Old and New Testaments. By examining Joshua and Hebrews, the hosts reveal how these scriptures converge to highlight the rest that God offers.
Application Day is introduced as a pivotal moment where listeners are encouraged to translate biblical truths into their everyday experiences.
Beth shares a personal reflection on the challenges of balancing multiple roles—wife, mother, employee, leader, and being expectant. She emphasizes the necessity of turning to Jesus for true rest, rather than relying on personal perfection or worldly means of relaxation.
Beth [01:00]: "I now know where to turn when I need comfort and rest in this life. Jesus himself said, 'Come to me all who are weary,' and I will give you rest."
She candidly discusses her exhaustion, especially during pregnancy, and how embracing Christ's invitation for rest alleviates the pressure to manage everything alone.
Alexa expands on Beth's thoughts, reflecting on the temptation to seek rest through worldly activities, such as binge-watching TV shows or indulging in comfort foods.
Alexa [02:11]: "I'm often tempted to look for rest through worldly things... but I want to make sure that I'm ultimately looking to Jesus to give me rest."
She connects this to the concept of surrender, likening it to the Sabbath in the Bible, where the Israelites ceased their labors to trust in God's provision.
Alexa [02:11]: "Surrendering our days and our work to God... rest is found when we surrender everything to God rather than trying to do everything in our own power."
Beth introduces a second application point centered on the hope of ultimate rest awaiting believers in the new creation. This perspective provides strength to endure present hardships, knowing that weariness is temporary and that eternal rest with Christ is assured.
Beth [03:11]: "There is an even deeper rest that's coming my way when Jesus returns and restores all things. This gives me strength to endure all of the difficulties that I might be facing right now."
The hosts provide a comforting message that while believers can find moments of rest in Christ's presence now, there is the promise of an everlasting rest that transcends current struggles. This dual assurance fosters both peace and perseverance among listeners.
Alexa [03:41]: "That's super encouraging, especially on the days when we feel like rest is just out of reach."
The episode transitions into a time of prayer, guided by Beth's heartfelt prompts. Listeners are encouraged to:
Beth [03:54]: "Thank God for His faithfulness throughout history to provide true and lasting rest to his people. Bring any weariness you may be feeling right now to Christ."
Before concluding, Alexa teases the next week's topic, which will explore the freedom Christ offers from the cycles of sin in both personal lives and the broader world.
Beth [03:54]: "Next week we will be talking about the freedom that Christ offers us from the cycles of sin in our lives and in this world. You really won't want to miss it."
In this week's episode, Alexa and Beth effectively bridge the Old and New Testaments, showcasing the centrality of Christ in the entire biblical narrative.
