Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year, we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but but the center of it.
Beth
Hey everyone.
Alexa
Welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host Beth.
Beth
Hi friends. This week we have looked at judges 2, 10 through 19 and Romans 6, 15, 23. And we've learned how Christ sets us free from our sins, that we can walk in obedience to God. To end our week, we want to discuss how we plan on applying all that we've learned this week. So, Alexa, do you want to share your application takeaways?
Alexa
Yeah. I was really challenged this week to not feel hopeless in my struggle with sin. Something I feel like I've been struggling with lately is my attitude. I'm really quick to be irritable, and that's usually because I'm not getting in my way or something is happening that's an inconvenience. So I find myself confessing that a lot to God and asking him to give me a better attitude, to be more patient and not so quick to be annoyed.
Beth
But.
Alexa
But I'll pray for that in the morning and then an hour later I'm irritable. And so it's really easy in those moments to want to throw up my hands and say, well, if I just keep doing this, maybe I'll never change. Maybe this is how I am and it's pointless to pray about it and try to act differently. But thinking that way causes me to think lightly of the freedom I have for my sin. Even though it seems like I can't overcome this particular sin, I'm not bound to it. It doesn't have power over me because Jesus has triumphed over all of my sin on the cross. So there really is so much hope in the truth that we have been given freedom in Christ for our sin. I want to dwell on that hope more in my daily life and allow that hope to spur me on in my fight against sin. I want to live with more of an attitude of victory rather than defeat when it comes to my sin because I know that even, even in my struggle with sin, I can keep choosing obedience to God with the Spirit's help. And I'm reminded of First Corinthians 10:13, which says, no temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able. But with the temptation, he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it. That verse reminds me that God gives me the power in Himself to fight against my temptation to be irritable and impatient when those feelings hit. I don't have to just accept that this is a struggle for me and fall into that sin of being irritable and frustrated. I can choose to both remember my freedom from sin and rest in God's power to to choose that way out that he gives me and to then act differently.
Beth
Wow, I love that. Something that I have also been thinking about when it comes to despair over sin like you were talking about, is to look back and recount God's faithfulness to lead me to freedom in the past. So, like you, I often find myself in patterns of sin that feel really hard to overcome. But when I take the time to think about previous sins that I've struggled with throughout my lifetime, I see how God has truly delivered me to freedom time and time again. And that gives me hope to press on fighting whatever sin I'm in the middle of. So, for example, I have a family member who I have struggled with bitterness toward for almost 20 years. Throughout my high school and college years, it got so bad that I couldn't speak to this person without an attitude or a rude comment, whether they had done or said anything hurtful to me at all. And about five years ago, I got really convicted about my attitude toward this person, and I really started asking God to help me overcome this. And the first few months and even the first couple of years of praying about this, I was sure that I could never stop my bitterness. In my attitude, it felt so visceral and out of control. But then over time, through prayer and really turning to God, in moments when I would feel it creep up, God really did free me from this. My heart is truly softened toward this person now, and we have had so many pleasant conversations and pleasant times together. So when I start to worry about any of the sins that I'm currently struggling with, I remember things like this and it gives me the strength to press on.
Alexa
I love that, Beth, and thank you just for your honesty and talking about that situation. That's just really encouraging. It's encouraging to me and I think it'll be really encouraging and it'll just cause them to look back at. Like you're saying, look back at the ways in which they have seen God deliver them from certain sins and their life.
Beth
Yeah, of course. Well, now it is time for our weekly prayer time. So take a moment after Alexa reads each of the following prayer prompts and take your hearts to God in prayer.

Release Date: May 30, 2025
Hosts: Alexa and Beth, The Daily Grace Co.
In this episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, Alexa and Beth delve into Judges 2:10-19 and Romans 6:15-23, exploring the profound connections between these Old and New Testament passages. The focus is on understanding how Jesus is intricately woven throughout the entirety of Scripture, offering freedom from sin and guiding believers toward a life of obedience.
Alexa opens the discussion by addressing the central theme of the week's study: How Christ offers liberation from sin and empowers us to live in obedience to God. She emphasizes the transformative power of Jesus' triumph over sin through the cross, which grants believers the freedom to choose righteousness.
Alexa [01:21]:
"Thinking that way causes me to think lightly of the freedom I have for my sin. Even though it seems like I can't overcome this particular sin, I'm not bound to it because Jesus has triumphed over all of my sin on the cross."

The hosts transition into a personal application segment, where both Alexa and Beth share their individual struggles with sin and how they apply the week's lessons to their lives.
