Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it. Hi friends. Welcome to another episode of A Year in the Bible. I'm Alexa and I'm here with my co host Beth.
Beth
Hi everyone.
Alexa
It's our last day talking about 1st Samuel 17, 41:50 and 1st Corinthians 1:26:31. Today we will look at how we can apply what we've learned in the passages to our everyday life. So Beth, what application points are you going to be taking with you this week?
Beth
Yeah, I think the thing that I've been most challenged by this week is that because God works through ways that are contrary to human and worldly wisdom, I am called to trust that he will work in ways that are contrary to what I might expect or even believe is possible. So my faith is really challenged. Practically, what this looks like for my life is challenging my assumptions of what God can and cannot do. So particularly, there are a few people in my life who, if I'm honest, often seem too far gone from God's redemption. I often feel sad and even fall into despair when I think about these people. These are people who are either very hostile towards Christianity and not open to Christ or people who are just caught in cycles of sin or addiction and they just seem like there's not really much hope for them. But that is conventional wisdom saying that things are too big for God's power to work through. And so this week has really challenged me that as I pray for these people, I need to think like David did, that I serve the Lord of Armies and nothing is beyond his power.
Alexa
That's so good. And I feel the same way. I have unbelieving family members and I find myself sometimes resolving to the fact that they will never come to Christ. But thinking that way causes me to make light of God's abilities and power. So that challenges me to trust that he can work through even the hardest heart. I've been also challenged this week to trust in God's power in me. I can get down on myself really easily if I look weak in front of others or fail to look like I have it all together, which means that I'm caring too much about human strength and wisdom. I have loved this week how we've seen God work through the small, the weak, and seemingly insignificant. And I want to be content with my weaknesses because I know that God is at work in me and he actually uses my limits and weaknesses to showcase his glory. And we see that in 2 Corinthians 12. That tells us that Christ's power is perfected in weakness. So I really want to care less about being wise and powerful in the eyes of man and care more about humbly being used by God and glorifying him as he works through me. Okay, we're going to transition into a time of prayer now, so just take a moment after Beth reads each prayer prompt to respond in prayer to the Lord.
Beth
Lord, ask God to reveal areas in your life where you have relied on earthly wisdom instead of trusting in his wisdom and power. Thank God that He desires to show us who he is through His Word and how he acts in our world. Thank God that He chose to send His Son to die for our sins, even though that was foolish by the world's standards.
Alexa
Foreign.

Title: Applying 1 Samuel 17:41-50 & 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
Release Date: June 20, 2025
Podcast: A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace
Hosts: Beth & Alexa
In this episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, hosts Beth and Alexa conclude their study of 1 Samuel 17:41-50 and 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. The focus shifts from exegesis to practical application, encouraging listeners to integrate biblical insights into their daily lives.
Beth opens the discussion by highlighting a profound personal challenge: trusting in God's ability to work through means that defy human expectations. She shares,
“Because God works through ways that are contrary to human and worldly wisdom, I am called to trust that he will work in ways that are contrary to what I might expect or even believe is possible.”
[Beth, 00:53]
This reflection emphasizes the importance of faith, especially when faced with situations that seem beyond redemption. Beth candidly discusses her struggles with individuals in her life who appear resistant to God's redemptive power, underscoring the need to maintain trust in God's sovereignty.
Alexa echoes Beth's sentiments, delving deeper into the theme of divine strength manifesting through human weakness. She expresses a common personal struggle:
“I can get down on myself really easily if I look weak in front of others or fail to look like I have it all together... God uses my limits and weaknesses to showcase his glory.”
[Alexa, 01:55]
Alexa connects this to 2 Corinthians 12, reinforcing the biblical truth that "Christ's power is perfected in weakness." This perspective encourages listeners to embrace their vulnerabilities, trusting that God can achieve greatness through their imperfections.
The episode transitions into practical application, urging listeners to reassess their reliance on earthly wisdom. Beth prompts a reflective prayer, saying,
“Ask God to reveal areas in your life where you have relied on earthly wisdom instead of trusting in his wisdom and power.”
[Beth, 03:06]
This segment serves as a call to action, inviting individuals to surrender their preconceived notions and embrace God's unconventional methods.
As the episode wraps up, both hosts express gratitude and anticipation for continuing the journey through Scripture together. They encourage listeners to utilize the resources available at thedailygraceco.com to further deepen their study and love for God’s Word.
