Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus. Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it.
Alexa
Hi friends. Welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm joined by my co host for the week, Katie.
Katie
Hey everyone. This week we have looked at 2nd Samuel 7, 12, 16 and Luke 1, 32, 33, and we have learned that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Davidic covenant and currently reigns at the right hand of God. We want you to now consider what we learned about Jesus and apply it to our own lives. So Alexa, how do you plan on applying the passages from this week?
Alexa
Yeah, I think for me, I want to consider more the importance of giving Jesus my allegiance on a daily basis. When I think about Jesus being king, I often take comfort in knowing that nothing is beyond his control, which just helps me in the moments I'm experiencing suffering or I feel like I'm weighed down by horrible events that's happening in the world. So I think I tend to primarily focus on the comfort side of Jesus being king. But Jesus being king also means that Jesus deserves my complete allegiance. When we come to faith in Christ, we acknowledge that Jesus is not just our Savior, but also our Lord, and we give our lives to Him. But as followers of Christ, we are to continue to give our lives to him by following him and worshiping him and holding him first place in our lives. And I think it can be hard for me sometimes to think about submitting to Christ daily because I can't see Him. I know that he is sitting at God's right hand, this incredible position of power. But because I can't see see that, I think I tend to not be as affected by his kingship as I should be. Like, I know immediately that when Jesus returns, I'm going to fall to my knees and complete worship. So why shouldn't I live that way now? You know, I want to live with so much anticipation to live with Christ and be in his eternal kingdom that that moves me to give him my complete allegiance every day. You know, not allowing the things of this world to distract me from Christ's greatness or to keep me from taking seriously how incred incredible it is to belong to Jesus's kingdom and the gift it is to make his kingship known.
Katie
Oh, that is so convicting, Alexa. I think it's so important for us to remember that submission isn't just when we profess faith. It's an everyday act. And I love how that relates to Jesus's kingship. Yeah, it's not something that we just look forward to in eternity. It's the reality of our lives today. And yeah, I want to live like that too. You are definitely convicted me today. Yeah. What I take away from this passage is similar, but it's and it's simple. It's just God's faithfulness. I have been walking through some really hard times with a few friends and just friends who are going through some difficult seasons and it's just these heartbreaking circumstances. It is so hard to remind ourselves that, you know, the situation is not pretty right now. But God is faithful. He is faithful to to carry us through to eternity, just as he was faithful to deliver on his promise to David and that one day Jesus will reign in a perfect, everlasting kingdom. And this gives us hope to persevere. And so for these situations, it just really encourages me to know that Jesus is king today and he will be king forevermore. So with that in mind, let us move to our time of prayer.
Alexa
Praise God for fulfilling his promises to David through Christ. Thank Jesus for being a humble king who died so you could be in his kingdom. Pray that you would honor Christ as King daily. Thanks so much for joining us this week and we hope you join us next week as we continue seeing Christ in all of Scripture.
