Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year, we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ in All of Scripture. Each week, we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it.
Beth
Hello, everyone. Welcome back to the Year in the Bible podcast. My name is Beth and I'm here again today with my co host, Alexa.
Alexa
Hey, friends. Today we are going to spend some time discussing how we are planning on applying what we learned about Jesus this week.
Beth
Yeah, I think Fridays are shaping up to be my favorite day of the study. It's just really cool to spend this time that's dedicated each week to thinking about all that we've learned so far about Jesus and about Scripture and then how that knowledge will impact our actual lives.
Alexa
Yeah, I know. I find myself growing just more and more excited about getting to Friday because I just can't wait to respond to what we see and learn about Jesus. So, Beth, what stood out to you this week?
Beth
Yeah, there were two things in particular that stood out the most. The first is how deserving Jesus is of our glory and our worship. So as we learned about his nature as Creator and Redeemer, as divine and human, it just really challenged me to be more consistently thinking about ways that I can better worship and glorify him. I think about lots of different ways that this can come into play in my life. And like how I parent my child or how I act as a wife to my husband or how I carry myself at work, like, just it really challenged me to take seriously the encouragement in the Bible to do everything that we do to the glory of God and the glory of Christ.
Alexa
Yeah, I love that who Jesus is compels us to worship him and we can go about that worship in different ways in our lives like you said. So what was the second thing that stood out to you?
Beth
Yeah, the second was that I was challenged to really think about my purpose as a human and as a child of God. So I was created through and for Jesus. So that just brings me back to thinking about Genesis 1 and how I was created to be the image bearer of God. And that just means to represent him to all of creation. And it's just really convicting when I think about all of the ways that I fail regularly to accurately represent God to those around me. But thankfully I'm also reminded that Jesus is the true image of God and so I can lean on him all of the times that I fail in my purpose.
Alexa
Oh yeah, that's so good and super convicting as well. I know I fail so many times to image God well, so I am just really thankful that when I do fail, I not only have Christ's grace, but his power to help me continue to image God rightly. Honestly, what stood out to me application wise was really similar to you in particular with what you said about worship. I love what Paul says in Colossians 1:17 when he says that Jesus is before all things and by him all things hold together. Sometimes it's easier for me to fixate on how Jesus is my Savior, but miss out on focusing on how Jesus is my sustainer. You know, he was the One who created the whole world along with God and He is the one who sustains the world, which means that he's the one who sustains me. And so those truths about Jesus just really motivate me to praise him and they encourage me to all the more trust him and depend on Him.
Beth
Yeah, I love that.
Alexa
So as we end our time today, we're going to end in prayer. Last week we introduced this prayer time, but I just want to remind you all that this is a time for you to just take a moment to pause and pray to God. Beth is going to lead us through some prayer prompts. So after each prompt we encourage you to just respond in prayer to God. So Beth, go ahead and lead us through this time. Yeah, go ahead and pray with us.
Beth
First, marvel at God's creation. Thank him for specific things that he has created that bring you joy. Second, ask Jesus to guide you in living out your created purpose today. Ask him to show you what areas of your life could be used to bring him glory.
Alexa
Thanks so much for joining us today and I hope today and this week was encouraging to you.
Beth
I will see you next week.

A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace: Season 4, Week 3, Day 5 – Applying Genesis 1:1, 26-31 & Colossians 1:15-17
Release Date: January 17, 2025
Introduction
In the latest episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, hosts Beth and Alexa delve into the profound connections between Genesis 1:1, 26-31 and Colossians 1:15-17. As part of Season 4, following the Christ in All of Scripture reading plan, this episode focuses on applying foundational Biblical truths about Jesus to everyday life. Beth and Alexa guide listeners through thoughtful reflections and practical applications, emphasizing how Jesus permeates both the Old and New Testaments and remains central to the Christian faith.
Exploring the Centrality of Jesus
The episode opens with Beth welcoming listeners and setting the stage for the day's discussion. She emphasizes the study’s aim to uncover how Jesus is intricately woven into the fabric of the entire Bible. Alexa echoes this sentiment, expressing hope that listeners will recognize Jesus as not just a part of the Biblical narrative but its very center.
Key Insights and Discussions
Worship and the Deserved Glory of Jesus
Beth highlights two significant takeaways from the week's study. The first revolves around recognizing Jesus as worthy of our glory and worship. She reflects on Jesus' dual nature as both Creator and Redeemer, divine and human, which deepens her commitment to glorify Him in every aspect of her life. Beth shares, "It just really challenged me to take seriously the encouragement in the Bible to do everything that we do to the glory of God and the glory of Christ" (01:15).
Alexa builds on this by discussing the various ways worship can manifest in daily actions. She underscores the importance of not only acknowledging Jesus as Savior but also as Sustainer, drawing inspiration from Colossians 1:17. Alexa states, "He is the one who sustains me... those truths about Jesus just really motivate me to praise him and they encourage me to all the more trust him and depend on Him" (02:45).
Understanding Our Purpose as Image Bearers
The second key point Beth discusses is the profound sense of purpose derived from being created in the image of God. She connects this to Genesis 1, emphasizing that as image bearers, humans are meant to represent God to all creation. Beth confesses, "It's just really convicting when I think about all of the ways that I fail regularly to accurately represent God to those around me" (02:09). However, she finds solace in the assurance that Jesus is the true image of God, providing strength when she falls short.
Alexa resonates with Beth's reflections, acknowledging her own struggles to embody God's image. She expresses gratitude for Christ's grace and power, which enable her to persist in accurately representing God despite her imperfections.
Application Through Scripture
The discussion seamlessly transitions into practical application, drawing from Colossians 1:15-17. Alexa elaborates on Paul's depiction of Jesus as "the firstborn over all creation" and "by him all things hold together." She explains that understanding Jesus as both the Creator and Sustainer fosters a deeper trust and dependence on Him. This theological insight translates into daily practices of worship, gratitude, and purposeful living aimed at glorifying God in all endeavors.
Beth echoes the importance of integrating these truths into everyday life. She reflects on how recognizing Jesus' sovereignty and sustaining power influences her roles as a parent, spouse, and professional. This holistic approach ensures that every action, whether mundane or significant, becomes an act of worship and a testament to Jesus' lordship.
Prayer and Reflection
Concluding the episode, Beth and Alexa lead listeners through a reflective prayer segment. Beth introduces two prayer prompts designed to help listeners internalize and act upon the week's lessons:
Marvel at God's Creation: Listeners are encouraged to express gratitude for specific aspects of God's creation that bring them joy, fostering a deeper appreciation for His creative work.
Seek Guidance in Living Out Purpose: The prayer invites Jesus to illuminate ways in which listeners can fulfill their God-given purposes, ensuring that their actions consistently bring glory to Him.
Beth guides the prayer, saying, "First, marvel at God's creation. Thank him for specific things that he has created that bring you joy. Second, ask Jesus to guide you in living out your created purpose today" (04:18).
Conclusion
The episode wraps up with Beth and Alexa expressing their hope that the study has been encouraging and impactful for listeners. They remind the audience to explore additional resources available on their website and to stay connected through social media for ongoing support and inspiration.
Beth signs off with, "I will see you next week," while Alexa adds, "Thank you for listening to today's episode... We're looking forward to studying God's Word with you again tomorrow" (05:00, 05:03).
