Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year, we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ in All of Scripture. Each week, we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but but the center of it.
Beth
Hi, everyone. Welcome to A Year in the Bible. I'm Beth and I am here with my co host, Alexa.
Alexa
Hi, friends. Today we will continue our discussion of Isaiah 52, 13, 53, 12, and Mark 10:45. And today we'll be talking about how we can apply all that we have learned from these passages. So, Beth, how do you plan to put what we've learned into practice this week?
Beth
Yeah, so one thing we didn't really get to talk about yesterday is the context surrounding Mark 10:45. You see, what prompted Jesus to say those words that he came to serve rather than be served was a request from two of his disciples. They were asking if they could sit next to him when he finally takes his throne to rule creation. And Jesus scolded them, of course, in the gentlest of ways. But he says that they're missing the point. Following Jesus is about doing what he does, which means it's about sacrificial service. And I really struggle with this. I know that as a Christian, I'm supposed to love and serve my neighbors, but. But if I'm honest, I am often aiming to do the bare minimum, which rarely requires true sacrifice. So when I hear of someone who's going through something difficult, I usually will send them a text and say a quick prayer for them. But this cost me very, very little. And I've been thinking of ways that I can be more sacrificial in instances like this. So next time I have a friend who might be struggling, I might invite them over, cook them a meal, and give them more of my time and attention, which is something I actually have very little of these days. But that is what it means to serve and to serve sacrificially. And I know that God will strengthen me in those times and give me what I need to be able to serve and love my neighbors.
Alexa
Well, that's really convicting, Beth, because I struggle in the same ways. And I usually feel that struggle the most if my life is really busy. Like if there's a lot going on. Serving someone else just feels inconvenient to me and I'm quick to think like I'm too busy to help, but I'm sure someone else can. But because service is sacrificial, it's always going to cost me something. It's usually going to be inconvenient. But when I think about Christ's sacrifice for me, that humbles me and encourages me to not only serve others, but show them Christ's love through my service to others. So if someone is able to get a glimpse of the Gospel through my service, and that makes the cost of that service so worthwhile. So as we end our time today, we're going to do so with prayer. So after Beth reads each prayer prompt, take a moment to respond in prayer to the Lord.
Beth
Thank God that He is able to maintain justice while still showing us great mercy. Take a moment to consider the seriousness of your sin and confess it to God, thanking Him for sending Christ to pay the penalty for that sin. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen you as you look for ways to sacrificially serve your neighbors this week. So that is all that we have for this week. Thank you so much for joining us and we look forward to seeing you next week as we talk more about seeing Christ in all of Scripture. Bye.

Episode: S4: Week 38 Day 5 – Applying Isaiah 52:13–53:12 & Mark 10:45
Date: September 19, 2025
Hosts: Beth & Alexa
This episode focuses on applying the deep truths found in Isaiah 52:13–53:12 (the “Suffering Servant” passage) and Mark 10:45, highlighting the sacrificial service of Jesus and how these Scriptures call believers to emulate Christ’s self-giving love in their daily lives. The hosts discuss practical ways to reflect Christ’s sacrificial nature, confront personal challenges to true service, and end with prayer prompts grounded in these passages.

The conversation is warm, reflective, deeply personal, and encouraging—marked by honesty about personal shortcomings and a continual return to the hope and strength found in Christ’s example. The hosts speak gently and invite listeners into prayer and practical application without condemnation, fostering a sense of community and growth.
This episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace weaves together the Old Testament prophecy of the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 52:13–53:12) and Jesus’ teaching in Mark 10:45 to call listeners to lives of sacrificial service modelled after Christ. Beth and Alexa honestly discuss their own limitations and how the gospel compels and enables deeper, costlier acts of service to others as an outworking of God’s love. Listeners are encouraged to reflect, confess, and pray for strength to practice the sacrificial love that marks followers of Jesus.
