Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
B
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but but the center of it. Hi everyone. Welcome back to another week of A Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here.
A
With my co host Beth Friends. This week we are going to be studying Daniel 7, 13, 14 and Matthew 24, 29, 31. We're going to be talking about how Jesus is the Son of man who will establish God's kingdom. And I'm so excited to unpack this title of Jesus with all of you this week.
B
Yes, we are going to begin today by walking through our annotations on Daniel 7, 13, 14. So I'll go ahead and read that passage for us. I continued watching in the night visions and suddenly one like a son of man was coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the ancient of days and was escorted before him. He was given dominion and glory in a kingdom so that those of every people, nation and language should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away. And his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed. So can you tell us about how your annotations went for this passage?
A
Beth so I found this passage to be pretty refreshing, mostly because right away I was able to identify things that point to Christ. So I highlighted the phrase son of man, which is something that Jesus calls himself throughout the Gospels. Then I basically highlighted all of verse 14. So I highlighted dominion and glory because I know that the New Testament talks about Jesus's dominion and glory and then also all of the descriptions of this eternal kingdom. So I highlighted that won't pass away or be destroyed. All of this makes me think of Jesus's first sermon where he says repent for the kingdom is at hand, and the Sermon on the Mount where he describes his kingdom. So Jesus is the one who will reign in God's eternal kingdom. So I'm always thankful for these passages because they assure me that what we've been talking about this whole year is actually true, that Jesus is present throughout the whole Old Testament and every page actually does speak to him and how he is the fulfillment of all God's promises. We see this in more obscure ways and then in these super obvious passages as well. Yeah, that's so true.
B
And such a great reminder as we slowly begin to end our journey of seeing Christ in all scripture as well. Was there anything else in the passage that you wanted to point out?
A
Yeah, I think we're going to talk about this in more detail tomorrow, but I was very fascinated by the third prompt which asked according to verse 13, who appears and whom does he approach? And honestly I didn't even notice this when I first read the passage, so I was really thankful that the study pointed it out. So we see that this Son of Man, which I don't think it's a spoiler to say that this is the Messiah that he approaches the Ancient of days, which is such a fascinating term for God. I looked it up and it seems like this phrase is only used here in the Book of Daniel. It is a term that is used to depict God as a wise and timeless judge standing and watching over all creation. And like I said, we are going to get more into what all of that means for us tomorrow.
B
I didn't know that Daniel is the only book that used this title for God, so that's. That's really cool. I'm excited to explore more of what that title means tomorrow. So we hope that you will be back with us then as we go deeper into Daniel 7, 13, 14. Thank you for listening to today's episode of a Year in the Bible with Daily Grace.
