Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
B
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but but the center of it. Hey friends. Welcome back to Here in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host Beth.

Hi everyone. So this week we have looked at Hosea 1 2, 3, as well as Hosea 31 5. And then we've also looked at Ephesians 5, 25, 32. And we have learned that God's faithfulness to his people is reflected through Christ by giving of Himself for the church. We want to end this week by talking about how we can apply all that we have learned this week through to our daily lives. So Alexa, how do you plan on applying these passages?
B
Yeah, I think my major application takeaway is to take seriously my union with Christ. It's a gift to be united to Christ, to be in a relationship with him and to receive the benefits of being in a relationship with him. And as a follower of Christ, I am to take that relationship seriously. By being faithful to Jesus, by honoring him with my life, and worshiping him alone in Hosea, God brings Israel back to Himself to restore their worship. And when we come to faith in Christ, our worship to God is restored as well. But it's so easy to still turn from God and pursue other loves. That is essentially what idolatry is, turning from God and looking to something to give us what only God can give. And I know that I'm prone to do this. This makes me think of the hymn Come Thou Fount that has a line that says prone to wander, Lord, I feel it prone to leave the God I love. Every time I sing that song, I'm hit with a reminder that I do that more than I realize. I'm prone to turn from the God I love to cling to something else. So I'm incredibly thankful for God's grace to Christ. For the moments I do that. It's so comforting to know that God continues to love and pursue me, even in my unfaithfulness to Him. But I don't want to live an idolatrous life. I want to live a life committed to Jesus. And I think that starts with coming back to the truth that I'm united with Christ and that I truly have all that I need and in Him. And just thinking about that marriage analogy we discussed this week, a faithful marriage looks like both a husband and wife loving one another and caring for one another. This is why Paul doesn't just speak to husbands in Ephesians 5 and compare what husbands do for the wives to what Christ does for the church. He also speaks to wives and tells them to submit to their husbands as a church submits to Christ. There's a lot we could say about submission, but essentially it looks like humbly serving your spouse. And as the bride of Christ, we are to take our union with Christ seriously by joyfully and humbly serving Christ. We are to delight in him as he delights in us by worshiping him with our actions. So one element of that being to turn away from the idols of this world to give Jesus our soul devotion. And that's what I want to focus on in my life. I want to take seriously my union with Christ by loving him alone. And I want that love to involve joyful service to Him.

I really love that. Alexa. You know, just the other day I was struck by the reality of my union with Christ. I was driving home late from a baseball game and it was just me and both my kids in the car. So my father, five month old baby and my two year old and my five month old is in this I hate the car era and he was screaming the entire 25 minute drive. And then out of nowhere my two year old started to sob and I couldn't get her to tell me what was going on. Like I couldn't get her to say what was wrong at all. And so here I was. It was late at night, I was 20 minutes from my house and I had two screaming children in my backseat. It was dark and I wasn't driving through the safest part of town and I wasn't able to pull over and I got really stressed out and was trying to think of all the resources that I had that could help my situation. And I was feeling really helpless and really alone. But then I remembered that Christ was with me and I began to pray. And now my children did not immediately calm down, but I was able to feel peace knowing that Jesus not only saw the situation I was in, but he was right there with me. And I think that that's just a really practical illustration of what it means to be united with Christ for Him to be present with us in all sorts of situations and now this kind of thing. Recognizing Christ's presence with me is not always the norm for me. Often my first response is to seek help and comfort from something else. And so I really want to let this moment encourage me to take seriously my union with Christ in more situations like this in the future. So we are about to wrap up our study for this week, and before we do that, let's spend some time in prayer. So Alexa is going to share a few prayer prompts that you can follow as we close out this episode.
