Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.

Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it.
Hey.

Hi friends.

Today we are closing out our week of studying Zechariah 9:9 and John 12:12, 16 by discussing how we might apply what we have learned this week. So Beth, can you share how you plan to apply these passages?
Beth
For sure. So there are two main application points that I plan to take away from this week, and they're related. So first, I want to value and enact humility in my own life, the way that Jesus did in his life and in his death. Jesus's whole attitude was one of humility. He humbly served, he humbly taught, he humbly lived, and he even had humble relationships. And I personally am not naturally humble. If I had to pick which of the seven deadly sins I embody the most, it would probably be pride. Uh, so I really need to rely on Christ and His work on my heart if I want to follow him in humility. I think one way that I can do this practically is through service. I was thinking about all the little things that need to get done that people don't tend to want to do. So. So at home this looks like picking up my kids toys or cleaning my bathroom. At work it is washing the dishes or wiping down the countertops. At church it's standing out on the Texas seat and greeting newcomers. And these are all jobs that people aren't usually rushing to go do. But I can volunteer and do those things as a means of humble service. And through doing that, I can hope that my heart and pride might be softened little by little. The second application takeaway is to not underestimate God's plans. Like the Israelites, I tend to think that I know what God is doing in many situations and that is just another symptom of my pride. But I can be so wildly wrong. Rather than try and figure out God and all of his plans, I would like to humbly trust him and submit to his plans even when they don't make sense to me. What about you? Do you have any application takeaways?

Yeah, I'm definitely with you. I feel like people would describe me as humble, which I appreciate, but I know my own heart and though many ways I struggle with pride. One area that I want to grow in humility is in my relationship with others, especially those who are frustrating. It's easy to be humble with people who are kind and easy to get along with, but then it's hard to be humble with people who irk me and whom I wish would just act differently. But Jesus was humble with both people who were easy and hard to deal with, which means I'm called to act the same. So I really want to pray more when I encounter frustrating people and ask God to humble my heart so that I still choose to love and to serve them.
