Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Host 2
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it.
Alexa
Hi friends. Welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host Beth.
Beth
Hello everyone.
Alexa
Today we are going to talk about how we plan to apply what we learned this week about Jesus to our daily lives and end in a time of prayer.
Beth
Yes. So we Talked about Genesis 22 and First Peter 3:18 this week and we have focused on God's provision of Jesus as our substitute sacrifice. So Alexa, how do you plan to apply these passages?
Alexa
Yeah, I really enjoyed the last application question that asked. How does God's provision through Christ give you hope for his provision in other areas of your life? That made me think of the verse I mentioned yesterday, Romans 8:32, that says he did not even spare his own son, but gave him up for us all. How will he not also grant us everything? In the moments I'm stressed about my need for provision, it's really easy for me to get super focused on whatever need I have and that's what makes me stress. Honestly, I'm just consumed with whatever situation is going on and where I'm in need of provision. And it's really hard for me to think about anything else but that need. And then when I get super focused on that need and stressed about my need, I can often start questioning if God is actually going to provide for me. I wonder if God is actually going to come through or if he's going to provide for me in the way that I would like him to. And that's where I think Romans 8:32 can be a big help for us because it does two things for us. First, it directs our minds to what God has done for us in Christ, reminding us how God is a God of provision who has given us Jesus Christ. But it also teaches us that it's in light of God's provision through Christ that we can be confident that he will continue to provide everything that we need.
Beth
That's so good. And yeah, related to that, I think it challenges us to walk in faith like Abraham did in Genesis 22. God will provide for us what we need and what will bring him glory and before our good. But this may not always be the things that we want or expect them to be, but they are still the things that will actually be good for us.
Alexa
Yeah, right. I think it's really important to know as believers that yes, God is always going to provide for us, but he's not always going to provide for us in the exact way we may want or expect. I mean, like let's go back to Genesis 22. God, he provided for Abraham in a really unique way and the promise that God gave Abraham would ultimately be fulfilled in an unexpected way. It's through the death and resurrection of Christ that God has made a way for all the nations to be blessed. And so if God's provision in the Bible was often accomplished in unique and unexpected ways, we can be open handed for God to provide in unique and unexpected ways in our lives as well. God will always truly give us what we need so we can trust in his provision knowing that even if God provides in a way that's different from what we might exactly want, he is giving us what we exactly need.
Beth
Yeah, I love that. Yeah. My takeaway from this week was pretty much the same thing. I've just been really dwelling on the faith that is required to trust in God's provision, but then also remembering that the gift of Jesus is the most perfect assurance that God really does have my best interest in mind. Okay, so as always, we want to end this week with a time of prayer. So we encourage you to quiet your hearts and your minds and follow along in prayer as Alexa shares a few prompts with us.
Alexa
Thank God for sending Jesus who died in your place so you could be forgiven for your sin. Ask God to remind you of his provision through Christ. When you doubt his provision, pray that you will trust God to provide for you, knowing that he has already given you the greatest provision through Christ.
Beth
Well, thank you so much for talking about the Bible with us this week. Be sure to come back on Monday as we jump into two whole new passages. We'll see you then.

A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace: Season 4, Week 6, Day 5 Episode: Applying Genesis 22:1-18 & 1 Peter 3:18 Release Date: February 7, 2025
In this episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, hosts Alexa and Beth guide listeners through the sixth week of Season 4, focusing on the profound connections between Genesis 22:1-18 and 1 Peter 3:18. The discussion centers on understanding God's provision through Jesus as our substitute sacrifice, exploring how these biblical passages interweave to reveal the overarching narrative of Christ in Scripture.
Beth opens the conversation by highlighting Genesis 22, where Abraham is tested by God’s request to sacrifice his son, Isaac. This passage serves as a powerful illustration of faith and obedience, showcasing how God's provision often manifests in unexpected and profound ways.
Beth:
"God will provide for us what we need and what will bring him glory and for our good. But this may not always be the things that we want or expect them to be, but they are still the things that will actually be good for us."
[02:20]
Transitioning to the New Testament, Alexa draws parallels between Abraham’s faith and the ultimate provision through Jesus Christ. She emphasizes how Genesis 22 foreshadows the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ, reinforcing the theme of God's unwavering provision.
Alexa:
"God has made a way for all the nations to be blessed... God is always going to provide for us, but he's not always going to provide for us in the exact way we may want or expect."
[02:40]
The hosts delve deeper into the theological implications of these passages, discussing how God's provision through Christ offers believers hope and assurance. Alexa references Romans 8:32 to underscore God's commitment to providing for His creation, linking it back to the sacrifice of Jesus.
Alexa:
"Romans 8:32... He did not spare his own son, but gave him up for us all. How will he not also grant us everything?"
[01:00]
She explains that in times of stress and need, believers can find comfort and confidence in God's provision, knowing that if He provided Jesus, He will surely provide for other needs as well.
Beth encourages listeners to emulate Abraham's faith, trusting in God's provision even when the outcomes are uncertain or differ from personal expectations. She emphasizes that God's solutions are always rooted in His greater plan and goodness.
Beth:
"The gift of Jesus is the most perfect assurance that God really does have my best interest in mind."
[03:33]
Alexa and Beth discuss the importance of being open to God's unique and unexpected ways of providing. They highlight that just as God’s provision in the Bible often came in unforeseen forms, He continues to work creatively in the lives of believers today.
Alexa:
"God will always truly give us what we need so we can trust in his provision knowing that even if God provides in a way that's different from what we might exactly want, he is giving us what we exactly need."
[02:40]
The episode concludes with a guided prayer session led by Alexa, encouraging listeners to:
