Foreign. Hey, welcome back to A Year in the Bible With Daily Grace. Make sure that you are subscribed or following so that you can journey through Scripture with us this year. Today, Scott, we're in 1st Chronicles 22 through 25, tackling four chapters in this book. Yesterday we saw David purchase the land that the temple will be built on. And today it seems like that project is. Is getting underway. Is that. Is that what's happening in these chapters?
B
Yeah, I mean, really, the rest of 1st Chronicles and the beginning of 2 Chronicles is. It's all about the Temple for. For a little bit here. And I mentioned this before. Remember, though, David's not going to be the one to actually build the temple. Solomon will. But I love that David works to just make sure that's as easy as possible for Solomon. He just. He starts getting everything ready for him for when the time comes. And, man, chapter 22 is so incredible to me. I love David's charge to his son here. I wish I could read it all, but essentially what he does is repeat that covenant God made with him. Tells Solomon to be strong and courageous. So kind of similar to what Moses told Joshua when Joshua was going to succeed him. And then he tells David, tells all Israel's leaders now determine, or some translations will say, devote. Devote in your mind and your heart to seek the Lord your God, as he tells them to build the temple. So great. And then just again, remember, this would have been such an inspiration to the exiles who had returned to Jerusalem to build another, though far less glorious temple than Solomon built. And just like the leaders of Solomon's day were to devote themselves to seek the Lord, so too were these exiles who had returned. And so now they're back. This, this reading, this history should serve as an inspiration to them to repeat the successes of the past and avoid the mistakes of the past.

Yeah, I also loved reading through chapter 22. We've got three more chapters to cover today, Scott. And we run into what we've run into a few times now in Chronicles. More names, more names, more names.
B
Lots of names.
A
We're not done. All right, walk us through it.
B
Yeah. So all these names, it's still in the kind of the broader section of temple preparation. So David is, you know, getting everything ready for the Temple. And because the Levites, which is what a lot of this section is about, because the Levites were the ones who would serve at the Temple. That's why we get this focus on them. You know, they're. They're very, very important to the Temple. They're Very, very important for Israel to be able to worship the Lord. And I think 23, 28 is just a really good summary here. The. The duty of the Levites is summed up as they will be to assist the descendants of Aaron, the priests, with the service of the Lord's temple, being responsible for the courts and the chambers, the purification of all the holy things, and the work of the service of God's temple. So that's a good summary of their responsibilities. And then it goes on with more responsibilities at the end of 23. But the Levites, you know, some of whom were priests, had a really big responsibility. They needed to help Israel worship God. And these chapters remind us of that. They would have encouraged the exiles who had returned to resume the work of the new temple. This made me think of a verse, Nehemiah 10:39, which. I love this verse. And Nehemiah happens around this same time as Chronicles. But in Nehemiah 10:39, the exiles say that we will not neglect the house of our God. Love that statement. And so that's just a reminder to me my top priority each and every day is worship. Like, nothing is more important. Nothing is more dangerous to neglect than worship than my walk with the Lord. And so one question I just kind of challenged myself with reading the section is like, hey, what in my life would change if every day I just woke up and said, I will not neglect the worship of my God today?
A
That's a great question, Scott. I feel like we all need to sit with that one for just a minute. And that was a great encouragement for worship to be a priority. Priority was also the word that came to mind for me when I was thinking about a takeaway from this chapter. But I was thinking about it in relation to the people that I'm leading. And that could be the kids in my home. That could be, you know, on a. On a team or in any kind of, like, group setting or in a church. But what's my priority in leading them? Is it like David leading Solomon to say, hey, the most important thing is God's presence. The most important thing is worship of Him. And I was kind of convicted by that. Cause that is not always my priority. And so, yeah, some challenging things for us to think about in these passages today. Thanks for walking us through these chapters. We're gonna finish the book of 1 Chronicles tomorrow, so that'll be an exciting day. Yes. All right, we'll see you then.
