Hey, this is Shelby and CJ and we are excited to talk about God's Word with you this morning. If you've been listening along and you're enjoying what you're hearing, then we'd love for you to leave us a review. It's fun to connect with y' all and hear what you enjoy about the episodes. We might even share that review on a future episode, which is also super fun. TJ Today we're in Psalm 61 through 65, and we're gonna choose one psalm to focus in on. Which psalm is.
A
Yeah, so today we're going to focus on Psalm 62.
B
Okay.
A
These. This group of psalms is about life's hardships, and Psalm 62 is just a. A fun one to go through.
B
All right.
A
I think this is a really, really great psalm about relying on God when the world does not make sense. And if we think about David's life, I mean, he's a pretty good.
B
If I think about my life.
A
Yeah, there you go. That's pretty good. Yeah, that's probably true. So the psalm opens with, I am at rest in God alone. My salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock, and my salvation my stronghold. I will never be shaken. And this is a fantastic perspective. But if we take a little bit of a closer look, we see that David starts to go back and forth between the struggles of life and then the truths of who God is. So in verses 3 through 4, he then speaks about enemies, and enemies in the psalms could really point to anything. David did have legitimate enemies, but we can think of them as just life struggles, trials, tribulations, things, obstacles to living a good God, honoring life. But in light of those things, David responds. In verses seven through eight, he says, but my salvation and glory depend on God, my strong rock. Despite this craziness, despite the uncertainty of life, God is my rock. And then again in verses nine, he returns to those uncertainties, and he talks about how life is a vapor. My life is going to pass away quickly. People come and go. Life is short. And then in light of that, David then responds and says, but strength belongs to God, and faithful love or faithful love belongs to you, Lord. So we see David kind of going back and forth. Life is tough, but God is true. Life is difficult, but God is my rock. And I think there's a lot to learn and a lot to mimic in this attitude in our own lives.
B
Yeah, absolutely. Gosh, that. I feel like that parallels some of my prayer times pretty closely. So what can we takeaway from this psalm?
A
Yeah, I mean God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. God was a rock then, and he's our rock today. And despite our hardships, despite our fragility, God reigns and he is our rock and he's our ultimate hope. And David here encourages us to encourages us to have an eternal perspective or a kingdom perspective. Rather than focusing on the minutia of our life and where things are not going well, we need to cast our eyes on the Lord and what he promises and where we're headed in the future.
B
Yeah, absolutely. What a great encouragement. I think my one takeaway from this psalm, and I think we see this in Psalm 61 that we read as well today. I have this tendency to think that I am the rock of my life, that I'm the one who is holding it together, that I'm the dependable, reliable one. Probably, you know, anyone with any sort of responsibility as a parent or in a job or wherever you have responsibility has felt that same way. These psalms are a reminder to me that I am not the rock, that God is the rock and it is in him where I take refuge and he is my strength. And so I'm taking new perspective away from the psalms that we read through today.
A
Praise the Lord.
B
Praise the Lord. And I need that new perspective. Right? All right, cj, thank you so much for walking us through these. I'm excited to talk through more psalms tomorrow.
A
Great.
