Hey, thanks for listening to A Year in the Bible With Daily Grace. Whatever podcast platform you're listening on or if you're watching on YouTube, we hope that you are subscribed or following so that you can continue journeying through scripture with us this year. C.J. we're in Psalms. We're in chapters 66 through 70. What are we going to talk about today in these few psalms?
C.J.
Today we're going to focus on Psalm 67, and actually we're going to focus in on just one little line.
Host
Just one line.
C.J.
One little line in Psalm 67. So verse one says, May God make his face shine upon you. And in biblical theology, when we're looking at all of scripture, this is a very, very rich phrase. Light is associated with life and abundance, which obviously come from the Lord. And God's light or his illumination points us to his care and special favor toward his people. So a few examples we we have today here in Genesis 1, we think of God producing light at creation, a light that sustains life. Or we can think of in Exodus 14, after Israel comes out of Egypt, it's God's cloud that lights up their journey or their path before them and enables a safe journey for them forward into the wilderness. And number six, where we talk a lot about the priests. The priests are charged with this little blessing that they're to bless Israel with. And it says, may the Lord make his face shine on you. And there are many other examples that we could go to in scripture, but this psalm is keying into this really, really important concept that we want the Lord to look upon us and his face to shine upon us with favor and care and goodness. And it really packs a punch, that little phrase.

Yeah, thanks for breaking that down for us, because you might have rushed right past that, or maybe that's familiar to us, but we didn't know the depth of it. So I appreciate you drawing that out. So how do we see Jesus in maybe this one line of this one psalm that we're focusing on for sure.
C.J.
So in John one is where we're going to start. And it says, obviously we know this in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God. But then as we go on a few verses later, it says, all things were created through him, that is Jesus. And again, we think of that first light at creation, that it was actually Christ who was illuminating the earth, and he was the one who created the light. And then we read in John 1:4, it says, in him that is Jesus, in him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. So what does this all mean for us? When Psalm 67:1 says, May God make his face shine on you, the ultimate way that God did that, the ultimate way that God shows us favor is through the presentation and the life and death and resurrection of Christ. That's where the light comes from. Christ is the light and he imparts God's blessing to us and he's the light of the world and the darkness of the world cannot overcome it.
Host
Yeah, love that. That is a great connection. Thank you, cj. I think even if we continue on to verse two, I'm going to add to what you've said for my takeaway because verse goes on to say that he may make his face shine upon us so that your way may be known on earth and your salvation known among nations. And so the result of Christ shining His light on us is that we are reflecting that light and sharing it with others. And so there's also here, I think, a really missional, evangelistic component to the light that we receive from Christ. And so I'm being challenged both to remember Christ as the light and to ask, how am I reflecting that to those around me through this psalm today?
C.J.
Great.
Host
Yeah. All right, thanks for walking us through these psalms. We're gonna keep going through this awesome book of psalms tomorrow.
