Hey, welcome back to A Year in the Bible With Daily Grace. We are in Psalms, which has been an absolute joy. And Scott, you are joining us to finish out the book of Psalms, which is really, really exciting. Today we're going to be in Psalm 101 through 105. And as we have been, we're going to choose a few moments or maybe even one psalm to focus in on, since that is so much to cover in one episode. So what do you want to focus on in these Psalms today?
A
All right, Psalm 103 is a Psalm I always just love when I get to, when I'm reading through Psalms. It's one that's left a lot of impressions on me and for a couple of reasons. One is Psalm 132 says, Praise the Lord my soul and forget not all his benefits. And he lists out some of the, some of the reasons, some of those benefits, like God forgives, heals, redeems, crowns people with love and compassion. He satisfies their desires as someone who can get really, really down on himself and feel like a victim. I just, I love the challenge here that, that God has blessed me in so many ways. And verse two is challenging me to not forget any of those. Like, bring them to mind regularly and just acknowledge how good God has been to you. And then I love verses 7 through 12. You got this beautiful description of God's forgiveness. Moses is mentioned. And then verse 8 says that God is compassionate and gracious, low to anger, abounding in love. So these are words that show up all the time in Scripture. They originally come back from Exodus 34, where God had revealed himself to Moses after the golden calf incident. So I just love after this grievous sin, God reveals himself in this way. He forgives his people. God is eager to forgive. And I love the comment, especially in verse 12, that God has removed our sin from us as far as the east is from the west. Like, that is just a reminder to me that my sins do not define me at all. God has put the greatest possible separation between me and my sin. And so God does not look at those of us in Christ and see sinner. He looks at us and sees a beloved child. Which I think is so such a comforting, important reminder.
B
It is so comforting. And I also love Psalm 103, like, top 10 favorite Psalms. Spoiler alert. It's definitely going to be part of my takeaway for this episode. But is there anything else that stood out to you in the psalms that we read today?
A
Scott, Psalm 105 is another spot I just really, really like. I like chapters like this. And there's several throughout the bible, really. Nehemiah 9, Psalm 78 was this way. Acts 7 When Stephen is giving his speech. Chapters that just really tell the whole story of the Old Testament in a chapter. And Psalm 105 does that because you've got like in verses 8 to 23 kind of recaps Genesis, God's promise with Abraham to give him the covenant, to give him the land of Canaan. You get the story of Joseph, that family going to live in Egypt during the famine. It goes on to talk about the exodus from Egypt and then how God faithfully led Israel through the wilderness and so settled them into the land of Canaan, just as he had promised to Abraham all those years before. And I love that this history is. We see in the first seven verses, you know, this history is recorded so that Israel would praise God and depend on him and remember all that he's done for them. And I love the very final verse that God settled them in the land so that they would keep his precepts and observe his laws. Which I love that. And I think again, there's a challenge here, big challenge that how often do I just sit back and meditate on all that has done for me in my life? And how might my everyday life look different if I more regularly call to mind such things? How would I handle challenges differently? Just how would I. How would my everyday interactions be different? And you know, again, comes Back to Psalm 103, 2, just don't forget any of his benefits. And you know, that might not change any difficult circumstances I'm walking through, but it can and will alter my perspective on those difficult circumstances because you know, when I remember that the Creator God, which is something Psalm 104 brings out, God being the Creator. When I remember the Creator, God inconvenienced himself by entering this world, dying for my sins. When I recall that it's a lot harder to fall into despair when life is hard.
B
Yeah. And my takeaway for these chunk of psalms is going to be so similar. You know, Psalm 103 is like highlighted, underlined in my Bible. And you called these out, but just the benefits that it lists there. He forgives your iniquity, he heals your diseases, he redeems your life from the pit. Like that's always one that just sticks out to me, crowns you with faithful love and compassion, satisfies you with good things. I can't read through that list without having a total just like mindset shift into thinking on all that the Lord has and just gratitude for that. So love these psalms. That specifically is one that's sticking out to me. And hey, if you're listening along, we'd love to know what's what's sticking out to you in these psalms. What's your takeaway? So leave a review, Leave a comment, Let us know. We'd love to hear from you. We're gonna continue in the Book of Psalms tomorrow.
