Hey, you're listening to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. We love that you are here joining us today for this episode, and we ask you to leave a review if you enjoy the episodes that you listen to or watch each day on YouTube. Those reviews mean a lot to us. Today we're in Proverbs chapters 4 through 6. CJ I know similar to Psalms and Proverbs, we're going to focus in on maybe a section or a couple sections of Proverbs. So within these chapters, we talked about having these like one to two line proverbs. There are countless in these three chapters. But what are we going to focus in on today?
B
So today we're going to focus on Proverbs 4, 25, 27. And as we described in a previous episode, Proverbs 1:9 is really the introduction to the book. And it's a father giving wisdom to his Son. And the Father imagines the Son sort of journeying through life with a bunch of different decisions put before him. This is a good way to view Proverbs. It's like the decision tree. And, and each proverb is a little decision tree. You can make a good decision which leads to something bad. You can make a good decision which leads to something good. And I think Proverbs 4, 25, 27 helps us imagine this. Put ourselves in the shoes of the sun, imagining ourselves on the journey of life, trying to make wise decisions, which I guess is actually what we're on. So Proverbs 4, 25, 27 says, Let your eyes look forward, fix your gaze straight ahead, carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established. Don't turn to the right or to the left. Keep your feet away from evil. So again, we imagine ourselves walking through life, avoiding evil, choosing good, trying to follow the Lord and revere him or fear him, as Proverbs 1:7 asks us to do. And this is sort of the way that we need to consider all of our decisions and try to apply the wisdom that Proverbs gives us.

Yeah, that's great. So what can we take away from that specific section?
B
Yeah, so again, I see two things here which I guess we'll continue to see as we go through Proverbs. But I see the Christian, you and me. And I also see Christ. Again, if we're the Son, we need to be heeding the Father's advice. The Father, that's in Proverbs 1 through 9, but the Father, our Heavenly Father in heaven as well. And of course we see Christ and we see his unflagging pursuit of the Father. He is constantly making the wise decision. He is constantly thinking about his Father's advice, his heavenly Father's advice, and he's trying to live that out. And then we think of ourselves again as we try to mimic Christ and we try to follow the Father as best we can. We think about picking up our own cross and following him daily, denying ourselves, denying evil, leaning into the good. And that's sort of the world that Proverbs gives us and the world we're supposed to inhabit.

Yeah, that's super helpful. Thanks, CJ I think my one takeaway from this in reading today's chapters, I noticed a verse that's really familiar to me and probably to others, which is, guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life. And I think for me, that verse has often been used to say, hey, be careful what you watch, what you listen to, the voices that you allow to influence you. And I certainly think that that verse is asking us to do that. But something I was like kind of meditating and thinking on today is in guarding my heart. That also involves letting the things that are wise near to my heart. And so what I was encouraged with today is treasuring Christ, treasuring His Word, treasuring the Lord's commands. We just went through psalms which talked so much about treasuring the law. And so I was thinking not only of the things that I want to be careful about letting near my heart, but the things that I should be treasuring in drawing near to. So that's my takeaway from these chapters. We'll have more from Proverbs tomorrow.
