Adam Corolla
It's time for Corolla and Mayhem. Game on.
Mayhem Miller
Another week in the wild world of sports.
Adam Corolla
Yeah, man, what'd you think about last weekend, man?
Mayhem Miller
What did you think? That's the question. Because to me, I have a bunch of thoughts there.
Adam Corolla
You do? Yeah, I, I was unable to watch the fights. My son was in town, but they.
Mayhem Miller
Make it a nightmare to be able to watch him after.
Adam Corolla
So it's like, yeah, I, I, I was getting ready for the super bowl party and blah, blah, blah.
Mayhem Miller
But, well, I'll give you the long and short of it. The short. Oh my goodness. He did not back. Sean Strickland did. Exactly. Sean Strickland and Drakus Du Plessis figured him out. Like somebody in the training camp figured out how to talk DDP into striking. Like the way he does Mongoloid style overhands, bashing him up with a nice kick and then exiting once that Sean Strickland start jabbing, started getting. Nope, nope. Exit out to the left, exit out to the right, slip out to the left, slip out. Like he, he made like. I was kind of flabbergasted that DDP learned how to kickbox just a little bit better and he made the adjustments to just. Nah, no, there's no, there was no like close decision. Nah, he hit him with the overhand right. Broke his nose. Now to Sean's credit, he like put his nose back into place very blatantly and continued fighting. Actually fought kind of better after he smashed his nose like a ketchup packet. You know, it was one of those nights.
Adam Corolla
So it was never really in question the outcome, man.
Mayhem Miller
It was, you know, last time it Was like they went to Australia, they did the fight, the whole rigmarole, the big talk, up to it. And it was a really close fight. This time. DDP's coaching staff figured it out. They said, okay, here's how to win this fight. This time decisively. And you think, oh, get him down. Submit him. But I think Sean Strickland has really good jiu jitsu bit. We never get a C because he turns everything to a kickboxing match and then drank is just turn into a kickboxing match. And one has figured it all out. Yeah.
Adam Corolla
And now what about the co main event?
Mayhem Miller
Co main was. I mean, it was more of the same. The champion delivered. You know, it wasn't like even up to the judges really, but it was in the end, Zhang, she. You know, it's really a case and if you looked on the Internet of like UFC propaganda, somehow where the Tatiana Suarez was heralded as the next coming of Khabib Nurmagomedov, like she was some type of grappling phenom. But really what we got was like Holly Holm, Ronda Rousey too. Like, it was like one of those where Zhang just outclassed her in every area. The wrestling, you know, she. She almost got taken down for a second and then reversed her. Yeah. Took Tatiana down for the first time in her career. So it was like this weird thing where she just. Where they fed us this line that Tatiana was a real champion, like a real contender for the champion. But, yeah, it didn't work out that way whatsoever. Like, not around, not a minute of a round. That really did way, like.
Adam Corolla
But it went all five.
Mayhem Miller
Went all five. Yeah. You know, women's fights tend to do that sometimes, especially as straw weight. It's one of those. It was a good. It was a good night of fights. You know, there was. The fight of the night was wrong. Zoo vs. Cody Z. Cody Steele. Excuse me. It was. Yeah, it was a back and forth battle. It was, you know, it was a good night of fights. The heavyweights were a little underwhelming as they have been lately. And everyone, and I'm with everyone saying the heavyweight division is, you know, sort of in shambles. It's not exactly, you know, and we got Jon Jones at the top of the heap, but, you know, they signed away Francis. Yeah, Francis Ganu. So the only fight that we'd really like to see is not able to happen.
Adam Corolla
Yeah, except for what's his name and.
Mayhem Miller
Jon Jones, but I know, yeah, Tom Aspinall.
Adam Corolla
Right.
Mayhem Miller
But we've been talking about that for months now.
Adam Corolla
Right.
Mayhem Miller
You know, and they keep teasing it like, oh, maybe it's gonna happen. Oh, maybe you paid Jon Jones 30 grand. $30 million. Oh, and then he's gonna not. It's still like, I don't know who they got to talk to to get that deal to happen or is public support enough for it? And I've been shouting about it for, you know, months now.
Adam Corolla
But, yeah, I mean, heavyweight. Heavyweights traditionally are tough in that. In combat sports and that there's just not as many guys that are 6, 5, and 270 as there are guys that are 5, 10, and 175. There's just more of them. You know what I mean? And so you just have. You have a larger pool, and then you're just going to get more competition.
Mayhem Miller
John Jones play football. You know what I mean? Right, right. It's like one of those things, the economics of the situation work out where not every. And on top of that, fighting is not an easy. You know, the bar to entry is pretty high because you got to devote a long time.
Adam Corolla
Yeah.
Mayhem Miller
The elite at it, even if you're already a phenomenal athlete.
Adam Corolla
Yeah. So the heavyweight division in boxing is the same way. It has some good years and has some lean years, and the middleweights are, you know, they just kind of go from one to the next. You know, they just keep kind of pushing forward because, like, you know, they had all the Sugar Ray Leonards and the Roberto Durans and the Marvin Haglers and the. And Thomas Hearns and stuff like that, but they just sort of gave way to Oscar De La Hoya and all those other guys out there. You can probably. You know, the thing that's funny about this place is they forget to put the clock up. At the beginning of the show, I.
Mayhem Miller
Was like, we've been talking way longer.
Adam Corolla
Hold on, hold on. But then they remember six minutes in and put the clock on, but then the clock starts from zero. So then the clock ends up doing more damage than good. I already checked the time before we started the show, so you can just get rid of it. But I'm arguing that the clock is worse now than no clock, unless you can figure out a way to add time to the clock, which some people can do, but either way, you look at the middleweights, and it's pretty linear, and it just goes from one to the next to the next. And then the next generation gives way to the new generation and some. Felix Trinidad and all those kind of guys just keeps kind of going away grinding. They keep grinding they just hand the baton to Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton, you know, and it just kind of moves. Heavyweights take seven years off.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah.
Adam Corolla
You know, the bunch of guys you never heard of before don't care.
Mayhem Miller
The ebb and flow. Because back in the day, man, the UFC had a golden era of heavyweights. Like when Randy was fighting.
Adam Corolla
Well, their golden era era of heavyweights, to make my point, were guys that were 6, 2 and 2, 211 pounds, you know, which. Which you can do. Yeah, but you can't do six, seven. You cut weight to get to 265 or whatever. Whatever it is. So that's because really we're having a problem with super heavyweights, not heavyweights, you know, and maybe they need.
Mayhem Miller
Well, they call it light heavyweight. Yeah, the 205 guys. But it's always. That's always like a very exciting division where they're big enough to, like, end each other with one punch.
Adam Corolla
Right.
Mayhem Miller
But, you know, more than likely, you know, those two 205 to 265 weight class is. Yeah, one punch, knockout. But what's happening is right now there's a lull because the talent level is not so high. I mean, I won't. I won't take anything from those guys. It's just that there's enough defensive stuff where you get these guys to just equalize each other and no knockout happens. It's just a weird, lazy grappling match that might.
Adam Corolla
But the heavyweights, there was a knockout last weekend.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, you're right. Yeah. I mean, it's just.
Adam Corolla
What's his name? Who I thought drank from the shoe?
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, yeah.
Adam Corolla
I mean, he's. Yeah, I mean, he's. He's. His record, he's going from next big thing to 500.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, you're right. They keep sticking him up there. Every time they go to Australia, they stick him up there and they give him a good challenge and, you know, he's been, what, 04 recently or 3?
Adam Corolla
Well, I, you know, back to the size thing, but I mean, the guy six one, maybe six two, find a guy that's six, seven. I just don't. I feel like the matchmakers.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, I know.
Adam Corolla
Maybe seen that one coming. Like I said it before, I was just like, I don't know. You're fighting a guy six, seven, you're six one. I maybe. Maybe get in with another, you know, David Tua type.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah. You know, the Mark Hunt. Mark Hunt was the infamous. Yeah, was. He was not very tall.
Adam Corolla
No.
Mayhem Miller
Very thick around the middle, coconut style. And just Would come with overhands and, like, you know, walk down Semi Schilt, who is seven foot tall, you know, So I think they're trying to recapture that.
Adam Corolla
It's. It is doable, but it's a. It's a unique.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah.
Adam Corolla
Individual, like a Mark Hunt, like a Mike Tyson who can walk these guys down, who are giving away 6, 7 inches of height, you know, in the room.
Mayhem Miller
I would go with. I would spar. A guy. Six. Eight. Eight.
Adam Corolla
Really?
Mayhem Miller
Yeah. And like, that's just like eating a lot of jabs, catching mouse on your head, you know, like, have to, like, wade through. Wade through. So, yeah, Tafa didn't get it done that night. He definitely got ended. Now, look, moving on to the rest of the sporting world, I'm gonna play some footage for you. I want you to give me your. Your take, your hot take on this. Patrick Mahomes and senior and John Rocker kind of got into it outside of a bar. Check this.
Adam Corolla
Really? I heard about this, but I don't.
Mayhem Miller
Know what it was.
Adam Corolla
Pat Senior, John Rocker ex MLB or. Oh, they both ride baseball, right?
Mayhem Miller
Yes, they both played baseball. Yeah. And they're out here on Bourbon street jawing it up. Somebody's holding back my home senior. The crowd is looking on. John Rocker kind of underhand threw his drink.
Adam Corolla
You never throw a drink. That drink is $14.
Mayhem Miller
Exactly.
Adam Corolla
Yeah. So now what? Is there going to be a fight?
Mayhem Miller
Man? Right. Now we'll play some barstool sports. Yeah. Apparently this is a surprising turn of events. MLB pitcher Patrick Mahomes senior and John Rocker taking their Bourbon street brawl to the boxing ring.
Adam Corolla
Did they? Well, now, all right, listen.
Barstool Sports Host
I don't know if you saw this little. This little beef on Bourbon. The beef on Bourbon street this past weekend. John Rocker and Pat Mahomes senior going at it. Almost broke under a fight. I guess they hated each other since their playing days. Baseball, I mean, I guess. Not surprising. Everyone has beef with John Rocker. But they signed the fucking paperwork. Guess what we got, boys and girls, rough and rowdy. April 19th, Wheeling, West Virginia. Bad Friday. Two guys, none of this, like, you know, I. I liked Tyson, Jake, Paul, they're great. They're fucking making up and like each other after the fight. This is real bad blood. And just to show that I don't hold grudges. I know Patty Mahomes, the Super bowl guy, the guy who just got doors blown off, said he hated barstool. Well, now your dad's fighting in our company against John Rocker, so I'm gonna save a seat Free of charge. Patty Mahomes and crew. No bad blood. We can make up, watch your dad fight. That's an open invite. You say you don't like us, I get your dad to fight John Rocker. And rough and Roddy. April 19, Bad Friday.
Mayhem Miller
Pretty clever marketing stunt. I think like the whole thing. Because nobody was holding John Rocker back. If he wanted to slap Holmes in the face, he could have done it.
Adam Corolla
Oh, you think that was cooked up?
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, cooked. I mean, I'm not mad at him. Pretty clever, but yeah.
Adam Corolla
Well, now, what? Are they both early 50s?
Mayhem Miller
I believe so, yes.
Adam Corolla
And they played at the same time. They're both pitchers, right?
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, exactly. So you don't be a mean right hand. Wait, is. Is Rocker a lefty?
Adam Corolla
I don't know.
Mayhem Miller
I don't know either. But yeah, I mean there's going to. Every time that I get with the baseball player, and I've whole hat pads for the baseball player. Oh my God. Whatever hand they throw with, they come with the heat.
Adam Corolla
Oh, really?
Mayhem Miller
Every time.
Adam Corolla
Interesting.
Mayhem Miller
Because they, they know how to coordinate their.
Adam Corolla
They know how to use their body. Yeah, yeah, yeah. To whip, right?
Mayhem Miller
Yeah. So that's happening apparently. How. How much would it take to get Adam Corolla off the couch to train for a fight?
Adam Corolla
I gotta say, a few years ago, not that much, but now my hands are so screwed up. But the thing that has come of the fires in Los Angeles is I lost my gym membership at the gym that was on Sunset and, And pch and I was what, Equinox burnt down? No, sorry, Equinox is closed in perpetuity. And then I'm like staying at Drew's house and highly unmotivated, Even though I was motivated to use the Equinox that was on PCH and Sunset because I was driving by it on my way to work every day and I was taking a yoga class or Pilates class or whatever class. And then I'd do the cold dunk.
Mayhem Miller
Good program.
Adam Corolla
And I was like feeling good about myself for like four whole days. And then all the shit show burnt down. Now the thing about me, and I would recommend this to people, I will never not get a little bit of exercise because I can shadow box and I can do it in a kind of disciplined way where it actually sort of becomes a miniature workout.
Mayhem Miller
Six three minute rounds, something like that.
Adam Corolla
What I usually do is I put on like TMZ and the first block of TMZ is like 10 minutes.
Mayhem Miller
Ah, good old jail strategy.
Adam Corolla
I'll go 10 minutes on that. Then a commercial Break. If I'm feeling lazy, I sit down. If I'm feeling motivated, I'll fast forward through the commercials and do the second block.
Mayhem Miller
Nice.
Adam Corolla
Which is like seven minutes. But here's the whole thing.
Mayhem Miller
TMZ workout.
Adam Corolla
A half hour of TMZ. When you back the commercial out 22 minutes. It's like 20, 21.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah.
Adam Corolla
So I just go fairly hard for an episode of tmz and I watch it and I'm fine. Now, the outcome of me not being anywhere, like being in a hotel room or being somewhere. When I'm in my hotel room, I just check my phone and I just hit the timer and I just do 20 minutes. But the point is, is I'm not doing anything else. So my hands are pretty good. Because all I'm doing is shadow boxing. The thing about nobody wants the shadow box, but it's probably the best thing you can do form wise. Especially if you're in front of a mirror. It's like skipping rope. People don't like it, but it's good for. You should do it. It's good for rhythm and timing and stuff like that. Banging away on the heavy bag is great, but usually your form ends up getting a little out of whack. Yeah. Yeah. The best thing you can do is tight shadow box, but tight form shadow box with, like, combinations and keep your feet under you and sort of move and move your head a little bit. And because my hands got all jacked up, I stopped whacking the bag and the mitts and stuff like that. So it's all just shadow box. Which is to say I'm a puss, but my form is pretty tight because that's all I do now is a shadow box.
Mayhem Miller
Let's hit you with the cortisone injection.
Adam Corolla
Yes.
Mayhem Miller
All right. And then we'll get you in shape. For the winner of John Rocker versus Patrick Mahomes, senior.
Adam Corolla
One is. We did that move where he put the stuff on the screen and then you take it away. I tell my guy, stop doing that. One was 50. Mahomes is 53. Rockers 50. That rockers. It's weird. He's feeling like he's been rockers 15. Mahomes is 53. No, 54. Oh, sorry. Yeah. Rockers been out of the league for a while. Like, he's still just 50. You know what I mean? Like, he must have, but I feel like he's been out of the league for a long time.
Mayhem Miller
Not early, then. Yeah.
Adam Corolla
Or sometimes guys pick up with teams and they don't hear about him anymore. But either way, Rocker looks pretty built though. But that doesn't always help you in the ring.
Mayhem Miller
No, no.
Adam Corolla
Who would you bet on?
Mayhem Miller
I mean, I don't know. Yeah, Rocker looks pretty big. I gotta tell you. I don't know the size difference here. It looks pretty big.
Adam Corolla
He looks pretty big. But I want to say this.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, you listen, I, I in the room, those guys, they punch and it's like January, February, and you duck, you know what I mean? Like the punches come slow when a guy's that big.
Adam Corolla
Usually Mahomes is, at least his son is a phenom athlete. Like he's fluid, you know what I mean? So don't bet against the fluid guys.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, I can't imagine that he's not. Yeah, if they're gonna, he's gonna fight. I'm sure he's taking it serious.
Adam Corolla
Yeah. The problem with the guys like Rocker that spend too much time doing curls is they end up trying to club everybody with their punches versus throwing combinations. They get into this weird lobby onesie. Yeah.
Mayhem Miller
To go one at a time and.
Adam Corolla
They end up using all their arms.
Mayhem Miller
And then when you have that much mass, you like have to use a lot of oxygen. So it's a weird thing where your cardiovascular system just gives up because you have so much muscle mass. It's not fueling all of you.
Adam Corolla
And then all of a sudden you get tired. John Rocker has been out of the league for 22 years, which is kind of, it does. But relief, guys. I mean, you know, 28 years of age, 29 years of age.
Mayhem Miller
I can tell you on the time that I fought in the same card as Jose Canseco.
Adam Corolla
No.
Mayhem Miller
In Japan they had freak show fights. And I just went back to the locker room and I looked, I said, I know this guy, I know this guy from somewhere. And Jose Canseco's big ass was in there.
Adam Corolla
He was a huge guy.
Mayhem Miller
Yeah, he was a pretty big dude. Warming up for like a kickboxing match against Dong Sik Hung. Yeah. This giant seven foot guy who beat him mercilessly.
Adam Corolla
Oh yeah. Because he didn't know, he didn't have any technique.
Mayhem Miller
He didn't. My manager was like trying to like warm up. He came with no coaches, nothing really. Just for the paycheck, bud.
Adam Corolla
Well, you've said it all, Mayhem.
Mayhem Miller
Thanks, bud.
