Talking fights in the world of sports. Yeah. Dana White announced 3, 4, UFC 314 and UFC 315 main events, some that you might care about on April 12. And the Cassia center in Miami, Florida, about for the vacant featherweight title between former champion Alexander Volkanovski and rising contender Diego Lopez.

What happened to Volkanowski?

Well, Volkanovski, if you remember, got knocked out by Toporia. But now Toporia has vacated his belt and is moving up to the lightweight division, seeking bigger money and new challenges.

Yeah. So it's strange that this happened. Vacant title fight, Diego Lopez, I think you recognize him. One of them sweet kickboxers. Crazy tattoo guy, handsome fellow. And Volkanovski is our classic workhorse that's always brought us great fights getting along in the 2, 36 years old, Diego's up and coming, 30 years old. Both of them have a considerable reach for their size. You know what I mean?

Who's favorite in this fight?

I would guess that Volkanowski. I didn't look that. Yeah. Under 170. Yes.

Volkanowski was pretty unbeatable for a stretch.

Yes. See, everyone is, like automatically jumping off the Volkanowski boat because, you know, he lost to Ilya Toporia. But I think we talked about on the show before this level of boxing and athleticism that you never hardly see in mixed martial arts. Ilia Toporia just put it on him. That. That night, it shocked me, I gotta be honest.

Yeah, well, let's see. Looking at names here. Where are their names? Am I missing their names?

Yeah, right there.

Okay. Yeah, we should keep them in the frame. Yeah. Lope, man, he's got a pretty decent height advantage on him, right?

Yeah, he does. Yeah. But, you know, they got about the same reach. It's like one of those ape status where Volkanowski has just got those ape hangers on him. And, you know, it'll be an interesting fight because Diego Lopez is good at, like, running backwards, you know, on his bicycle.

I mean, look, I think there's definitely a possibility that he can. Lopez can leg kick his way to victory, but Volkanowski is one of them guys that keep coming forward. Sort of the age factor is the big thing for me. You know, this is. You know, it's a. It's. It's going to be a good fight either way. I believe in the co. Main event, fan, fan favorite Patty Pimblett is faced. Is going to face Michael Chandler.

Yes. Patty Pimblett, the real fan favorite, does some wacky techniques and the workhorse style, fighter Mike Chandler, you know, who famously was waiting forever to fight Conor McGregor and it never happened. Conor broke his pinky toe. And so Conor, like Mike Chandler, has just been, like, cutting promos for two years to fight.

I got to believe Pimlet is a favorite here, right?

Yeah, definitely is. You know. Oh, I see. 125 favorite.

Chandler's a workhorse. Chandler's tough, but he seems like he's getting a little old.

No, no, look, both of these fights, I gotta say, could be the passing of the torch, you know, and it happened. It's weird like that, too, because in the locker room, if Patty Pimblett beats Mike Chandler, something happens. With Volkanowski, it's just some magic that happens in the. Whoa, whoa, yo. The young guy beat the older guy. Oh, well. And it's like it becomes a little heavier to Alexander Volkanovski. Like, oh, hell, he just, you know, the guard has just been changed.

38Amongst the heavyweights, maybe, but amongst the lighter guys, the difference between 30 and 38, that's a difference.

And you remember, if you remember, Mike Chandler took a walloping from Charles Oliveira pretty recently. Oh, yeah, it was a bit. Remember, you know, he picked him up and he slammed him at the end when he's on his back. He jumped off his back. He stood up. It was. It was a blast. Like Mike Chandler has given us. Fight after fighting some great fights. I love him. Yeah, but. Yeah, but again, he's getting old. It's just the way of the world. Patty Pimblett's on fire right now. Everyone's loving him.

It's a big one. It's a big one. And we can look ahead. I mean, this is a great card and all. Looking ahead 315 at the bell center in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, as Bilal Muhammad and Jack Della Madeleina. That one is exciting to me. I got at Bilal is like, balls have grown. He's like, challenging ddp. He's like, he wants to go up and wait. I got at him on Twitter about that. I'm like, look, dude, you're not gonna slam the guy. And he came back with, I don't need to slam him. I'll. I'll smash ddp. So, yeah, he's really getting aggressive these days. He thinks he could beat anyone. But this is a big challenge, right? They announced it right after me and him beefed it up on Twitter. Jack Della Madeleina, who is, I will say, at 28, not like the most seasoned. You know what I mean? He hasn't been in all the situations and not hasn't fought for the title before. And Bilal, at 170, is very strong, very good at wrestling, very good kickboxer. He's like. He's kind of annoying to a lot of the fans because he's one of those guys who's good enough to kickbox with good kickboxers. He's good enough to wrestle with good wrestlers. So he's one of those guys that no matter what happens, he can figure out a way to win. And it's. It's really a. Everyone says that Dana's going to kill himself if he wins this one again.

Yeah. Because Dana just sick of him doing. Putting up a great decision win, like a technical victory where he does, you know, he doesn't go to knock the guy out necessarily. He just goes to make sure that he. He stays in a dominant position the entire fight.

Well, that's a good question for you, which is, is there more technical stuff and decisions going on now than there were 10 years ago or 20 years ago in that, you know, boxing in the blood and guts days of the 30s and the 40s, you know, it was crazy. And then. And then even into the 80s, when you take a look at Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray, or you just even take a look at Hagler Hearn's the first two and a half rounds or whatever, it's just crazy all out war stuff. And then at some point you get to Floyd Mayweather and it's like, okay, this guy's making business decisions now and he's thinking about his brain and his future and how much punishment he's going to absorb. And maybe the crowd's booing because they want the old style Mexican fighters, you know, blood and guts. But the newer guys are like, I make a lot of money and I got, you know, I got endorsement deals and it's a little bit different than the sort of blood sport. And I don't know if you took a look at the first, you know, let's see, there are three hundred and something, right? Yeah, like if you said fight 100 to 150, those, those 50 fights versus fight 250 to fight 300, I think.

More knockouts, more whatever.

In my era, like we kind of invented the way that they train today. So you look at the guys today, the technical skill has gone way up because it's been refined over an era. Like in the boxing back in the 30s, the training methods were rudimentary and been passed down for centuries. Okay. And then in the 80s, you had like a influx of new technology and new training methods and new information about the fit, like the physical body. So sportsmen in general are getting better at whatever the hell they do. And now even if you go to like a regular like UFC gym, like a commercial gym, they have all the training camp stuff that we were doing back then 10 years, they have it all like commercialized ice bath, you know, cold plunge, they have massage therapy room. They, you know, it's, it's. The methodology for fighting has become commercialized already. It's, they figured it out and how to commodify it too. So the normal, average, everyday guy is training like a professional fighter.

[Corolla]

You know, it's weird that you bring up massage. So would you think there's more knockouts now or less knockouts now than there was?

[Mayhem]

I would guess 10 years ago? More. Because also they, I would guess that because I think that they have tailored the sport in a way to maximize knockouts. You know, like, they definitely push that, the kick. And plus all the kids, everybody wants to have a knockout. Everybody who's wanting to be a kickboxer, you know, even if they don't have access to the top quality kickboxing schools, they still Want to get in there and spar and figure out how to knock each other out?

You know, it's funny. I don't know you're talking about massages, but it's weird. And I was talking about Hearns and Hagler. Hagler. I believe Tommy Hearns got a massage, like a leg massage before he went in the ring.

Oh, wow. And broke up as lactic acid. A little too much.

I remember Manuel Stewart was, like, outraged that somebody came in and massaged him before the fight or in his legs. And then Emmanuel Stewart was like, that's what. That's why his legs got all wanky in the fight. And then I was like, is that a real thing?

I think. Yeah, I know that, like, right out. If you're sore from training and they rub that out there. Takes a minute to get that gunk out of your muscles. It's a weird thing that happens, for sure, so.

And also, it's a weird thing where you're the guy. Manuel Stewart, who trains for the. Who's training the guy, but somehow somebody just heads up to his room and gives him a leg massage, and you're totally unaware of this, which seems weird.

Now you want to control your fighter. Yeah. You want to make sure that every, like, avenue of him screwing up.

Also, Emmanuel Stewart, as great as he was, God rest his soul, couldn't save Vladimir.

He traded. He trained Vladimir Klitschko. And he go, vladimir. Vladimir Klitschko. Could not say Vladimir. I've interviewed Vladimir.

And I was like, vladimir, yeah, his name is Vladimir.

Once in Tony Stewart. No, sorry, sorry. Emmanuel. Emmanuel Stewart. Emmanuel Stewart. Was there something with him and Hearns legs and a massage before the big fight that set him off? And I don't know what protocol is. Like, I could make an argument.

I don't remember in that fight did he look sluggish? I felt like that was, like, one of the fights of all time. And if he didn't get that leg massage, he would have took the victory. That's what you're telling me.

Manuel Stewart had a theory. All I can tell you is Manuel Stewart was pissed that someone gave his fighter a leg massage shortly before he was supposed to enter the ring and complained that that was part of the issue. Stewart originally claimed that Hearns weakened his legs by running in sand for the Hagler fight. Then over the years, it developed into the massage story.

Let me tell you, a big fight. Yeah. You go back and replay it. If you lost, you go back and go, why? Why? And I guess this coach has checked every box. Like, ah, it was the massage. Ah, it was. The sun was in his eyes. Ah, he was damn wrestling.

Yeah, it was the fan man's fault. See if you can find Emanuel Stewart trying to save Wladimir Klitschko. That's the biggest. I talked to Vladimir and he's like, yeah, he's from Detroit. He can't. Vladimir, Vladimir. He just couldn't say it. But I always find it funny when people can't say somebody's name because I always think someone should just sit him down and go, look, it's Vladimir. I was talking to my Mexican guys the other day and they kept saying John at the other shop. John doesn't have. And I go, sean, yeah, yeah, John. I go, yeah, but his name is Sean and it's not John. But you should be able to say the name now. I get it, it's not your thing. But what I'm saying is, like, I could say Francisco, or I could say Jose, or I could say Pepino Francisco. All right. But either way, I'm not going to turn it into another name. Like, I would say it. Yeah. Manuel Stewart talking about Vladimir and he'll be missed. He was a crunk guy, I think, and maybe trained both those guys back in the day.

All right, well, I mean, I have still in the world of MMA, but in a very strange way. Two men pummeled three OnlyFans models and disturbing sanctioned MMA fight. I didn't watch this. I didn't watch it. So I'm like, want to be in shock here. Oh, wow.

But those guys were good guys. I remember having a good interview with those guys. And smart. Well, we know about the Klitschko's. They play chess and blah, blah, blah. They're probably fighting in the Ukraine right now, right?

I guess so. And it's crazy. You could be the heavyweight champions of the world and one 15 year old with an AK and you're dead. You know, like, that's.

But. And he's the mayor, isn't he? Of Keef.

I don't know. Something I gotta say about the Klitschkos. They've done a kind of noble job of like, not doing a bunch of endorsements for Gatorade and kind of staying out of the limelight. Like, they fought, they won, they tied to Ukraine and went back to Ukraine.

They ran for office. And, you know, he's become the. The mayor.

Vladimir's fault. I mean, he's cleaned out the top 10. This guy guesses outside the top down, little difficulty, maybe even getting a guy up or something like that.

No, Vladimir is a perfectionist. You know, that's the one thing about him. That's why he's been the champion as long as he is. He takes every fight extremely, extremely serious. Very detailed. The intensity he brings into the training camp is unlike any that I've ever worked with. I will be one week after the fight with Andy Lee and Miguel, with Vladimir.
