Unknown Analyst
Big fight. Jon Jones. And yeah, it's going to be tremendous.
Jay Leno
I was a little dismissive originally when I heard about this matchup, but after hearing you talk about Stipe and it's.
Unknown Analyst
More interesting than fans are letting on because. And we'll get to that later. But the whole thing is that Stipe is a bit older, John Jones bit younger, but like the first time that Jon Jones is going to have to actually showcase a wide variety of talent at heavyweight and you know, you know my opinion. We talked about it, I think last week where, where Jon Jones was a very elusive and large 205 pounder. He was very fast for the size and big for 205, but he's kind of average size for a heavyweight, like maybe small Emmy.
Jay Leno
What's he going off as? Jones has to be a favorite, but heavy favorite. But is it heavy?
Unknown Analyst
625? Yeah. So that's 25. Steve's coming in plus 450. So. Yeah. So, I mean, you can make a pretty penny if you put down some money on Stipe, but, I mean, they make the odds for a reason. Jon Jones is supposed to win this fight. Yeah. All right.
Jay Leno
What about the undercard?
Unknown Analyst
Undercard the most, the sleeper fight of the night is Charles Oliveira. Mike Chandler, like, that is a weird fight where Mike Chandler was supposed to, you know, as you remember, The Ultimate Fighter TV series was done with him and good old Conor McGregor, and that didn't come to pass. McGregor broke his toe and was out there being Hollywood and. But Charles Oliveira, I don't know. The casual fans don't might not realize how good Charles Oliveira is. He's like one of those just world beaters. He knows every. He great at jiu jitsu. Oh, everyone goes, oh, he's a jiu jitsu black belt. Yeah. But no, the guy is a great kickboxer. Just puts it, you know, all on the line every time. Chandler is that guy that kind of runs in with his head up a little bit and is not very refined in his striking and is kind of a volume guy where he. I mean, he punches hard and he's a physical specimen, but not quite as slick. And I think we talk about that on the show. The slick guy, you always kind of give a little bit of an edge to him, and it's not like there's much of a size difference. In fact, Oliveira is taller, has a much, you know, his reach. Yeah. Three inches longer.
Jay Leno
Yep.
Unknown Analyst
So I don't know. It's a big advantage. And he's coming in at under or minus 265. And Chandler's plus 215. That's how the betting lines go. So Vegas agrees with me.
Jay Leno
Yeah, Oliveira's real slick and real skilled and like, maybe flies in a little under the radar, but I think most.
Unknown Analyst
People know we're in the know. Oh.
Jay Leno
If you win, if you follow it, you definitely know who Charles Oliveira is. And so, yeah, that'll be a fun fight. I think 2 and 3 and 4 ranked.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
In that division, I believe.
Unknown Analyst
So. Yeah. The. The. The next fight down on the card is Bo Nichols. Coming back. And this time he's like making a small step up. They're really protecting Bo Nickel, but Paul Craig, who is not a bad fighter by any means, like a good, well rounded generalist type dude, but doesn't really have the takedown defense to deal with. And he's a good jiu jitsu fight.
Jay Leno
Is this fight. Oh, is this taking place where this. Oh, is it figured out okay? No more this Dubai crap or the things at noon.
Unknown Analyst
I know, it's really confusing to me too.
Jay Leno
It sucks. Do it east coast or do it west coast or whatever you gotta do, but just do it in an American timeline so we can watch this fight in real time. And also, I don't like. It's like going to a strip club at noon.
Unknown Analyst
What?
Jay Leno
It's fine. But it's not what it's supposed to be. Even if they got a buffet, the working man's buffet. Yeah. I'll make exceptions for that.
Unknown Analyst
Okay, okay.
Jay Leno
But I'm just saying, I used to feel that way about doing comedy, doing morning radio. I'm like, comedy's at night. It's cocktails, it's smokey clubs. It's not 6am in the morning, it's not in. I don't want to watch him at noon. I want to watch him at night. So this middleweight.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah, middleweight fight, you know, it's an interesting thing where the last fight that I watched, Bo Nickel, everybody was just glazing this guy, juicing him up, that, oh, he's the next coming of Christ. But really, I. So what I saw was a fantastic wrestler. They didn't know what he was doing in the standup yet. So, I mean, that's a big if. I'm coaching Paul Craig's. I'm going, all right, like, let's. Let's go out there and try to land something. You know what I mean? If you get taken down, fine, but like, go out there and really try to land something because his. It's very rudimentary. His striking is kind of janky.
Jay Leno
Well, I'll say that guys striking can improve quite a bit when they focus on it. And there seems to be have. Or have been an emphasis on it because the guys really weren't that great with their hands sort of back in the day. And I always look at the women's division, they weren't good with their hands back in the day, and then they got good with their hands and somebody decided to start focusing on getting good with your hands. And so guys can make pretty big leaps in terms of progress. Watching their hands from one fight to the next fight, I believe.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah, I believe. This has been a long layoff for Bo Nickel. There's been a while. Even though his last fight lasted like, I don't know, a minute or two. It was a very quick end of the fight, but then he took a long layoff, and I believe that was specifically to get his striking up to snuff for this matchup.
Jay Leno
Yeah, if you get a good coach and you really focus on it, I mean, some of it is a kind of quick twitch muscle thing that never really can fully be coached.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
You know, but. But if. And a kind of fluidity that really.
Unknown Analyst
It's hard to say, but that's what. And a lot of wrestlers have that problem transitioning into striking because in wrestling, you. You can be kind of goon. Like, you can goon stuff and not be so slick. And your punches can be pushes sort of instead of a nice snap. It's not, you know, I don't see Bo Nickel knocking a guy out with. With a combination so much as becoming a depth. That's striking enough at this stage in his career to like, touch guys to set up takedowns because his wrestling is so dominant. The big problem is if he does catch fire with his hands a lot. A lot of times guys, they start relying on that and they think that they're a world champion kickboxer and just completely throw wrestling away. I've seen that happen over and over again in the sport where guys get pretty good. They realize, oh, I can knock guys out. They knock guys out in the gym, and then when they face a world champion, like level striker, they decide to kickbox with the guy. When their bread and butter is a takedown, they could get it if they wanted to, but they don't. You know, Justin Gaethje comes to mind a bit, who threw his wrestling away and kind of has become punch drunk a little bit because he's like, got a good chin. So he took a lot of damage. And then the Holloway fight, that didn't work out for him. He tried to trade.
Jay Leno
I would always tell my students because I would try to get them to get a little snap on their jab and their punches. And I would say, like, look, if you in the locker room, you're trying to give someone the rat's tail with the towel, you know what I mean? I go, you can't just flip it at them. You have to flip it at them and pull it back. Snap. That's how you get that snap and that sting. You Know what I mean? Like, I don't even know. It's not the weight of the towel, it's the snap of the towel. So I would tell them, throw that jab out and then start bringing it, bring it back as fast as you threw it. Cause if you think about the towel snap in the locker room, you have to snap it back. What creates the snap is the back move, not the forward move. This forward move, you just kind of club them with the side of the towel. Doesn't sting, you know, so I go shoot that jab out and then snap it back like you're snapping a towel.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
So people just stick it out there and try to kind of push with it. Throw your punches and then throw them back. If you bring them back like you threw them, you'll get the snap. Thank you.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno

Unknown Analyst
Yeah. The rest of the card rounds out. The main card. Vivian Arrayo and Kareem Silva. That's good. Matchup should be exciting. And Mauricio Ruffy is a heavy favorite against James Lion Top who I'm not. I don't know much about.
Jay Leno
Are there any heavyweights in this?
Unknown Analyst
No, just the Jon Jones Stipe fight. Oh, that's the heavyweight fight. I know you almost forgot because.
Jay Leno
Well, they're both. Neither one of them are really even look like heavyweights.
Unknown Analyst
Well, I'll tell you the camera because when you see him and like I shared a locker room with the baby before. Big guy. Yeah. Like one of those big old heads, right? Like a monolithic monster head. Just a big human being.
Jay Leno
Now, I was that one time I met Tony Gonzalez and I'm like, this guy's feet are huge, his hands are huge. Now he's, he's. I wouldn't say thin, but he's trim.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
Like for a tight end, he's not. He doesn't look bulky. So you don't think he's that big, but he's big.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
And like I said, big hands, big shoes, you know, just. Just big parts. But they don't. But they have. Some guys have such good proportions that they don't read. Is that big.
Unknown Analyst
Yes.
Jay Leno
And then there's some guys that are so symmetrical that they don't read when they're small. Like, Tom Cruise looks very proportioned with his shirt up, but if you saw him in real life, he seems small. And then Stipe and Tony Gonzalez. Reid is sort of normal, but we see him in real life, close up, they're big guys.
Unknown Analyst
Really goes, oh, okay, the perspective has changed.
Jay Leno
Yeah. Yeah. So this will go off at Madison Square Garden. I suppose if you had a hundred bucks that you didn't care about, you could put it down on steep a just on the off chance, you know. That seems interesting to me.
Unknown Analyst
Make it more exciting.
Jay Leno
Yeah. I mean, there is in every great career in combat sports, but in every sport, but really in combat sports, there is the fight where the person got old, got human, got mortal, got something, you know, like you could, like, there's always the fight where, oh, it's time to start heading down the backside of the hill, career wise. And you never know exactly, exactly when that fight's coming. But there could be the fight. This could be the fight where Jon Jones looks human.
Unknown Analyst
Maybe. Yeah. He's.
Jay Leno
It's not.
Unknown Analyst
Question mark is like, we haven't seen St. B in a while.
Jay Leno
Yes.
Unknown Analyst
So it's like, what is he up to? How's his body? How's his training camp? You know, I understand the weird part was that he was actually doing shifts as a firefighter during the camp. So that draws another question mark. Is he taking it serious? Like, I don't know.
Jay Leno
All right, here's my take. Stipe is going to show up prepared.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
He's not going to scamp and show up fat or whatever. No, he's going to show up prepared. He's older, but he's not been taking punishment for a few years. And he's going to have a strategy. He's not stupid. And as you said, he's not going to show up blinking with palms sweaty. He's going to be ready to go.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
Jon Jones. So I think we know what to expect at a Stipe. Jon could get human. Maybe you don't know for sure.
Unknown Analyst
And Jon Jones infamous basket case, sort.
Jay Leno
Of, you don't know. We were not so sure about his camp.
Unknown Analyst
And then another side note. Okay, this is weird. This is what I picked up off the Twitter, the freaking gloves. Now, you know, they recently changed the gloves. They wear Golden Gloves. During that they, Jon Jones wore the new gloves, decided he didn't like them, and now the entire card is wearing the old gloves.
Jay Leno
Oh, really?
Unknown Analyst
Yes. That's how much power this man wields. And everyone's making the joke that, oh, he, John Jones can't wait to poke Stipe in the eye. So he didn't want the gloves that make your hand clothes easier.
Jay Leno
So, you know, Jon Jones is not going to have the fight where he becomes human at age 29 or 31, but in his later 30s. That's the fight. You become human, maybe.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
So that could be or could just be business as usual for Jon Jones.
Unknown Analyst
Could be. Yeah. Could be. Now, you know, the big ominous, like, thing that we're not talking about is the fact that Tom Aspinall has been the interim champion this whole time that Jon Jones has sat out and Aspinall is just campaigning for, what the hell, Fight me. No one cares about this Stipe fight. And, I mean, he has a Good point. And Jon Jones came back with, well, what has Tom Aspinall done? And if they. If you guys can put that up, man, he brought some propaganda to the table.
Jay Leno
I feel like Tom Aspinall is. I don't want to say nobody, but he just hasn't proven anything. He hasn't done anything.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah. Shortest fight time, 2 minutes and 2 seconds. Shortest average fight time Andy had.
Jay Leno
Oh, shortest average.
Unknown Analyst
Yep, yep. Most. Second most UFC finishes and then most knockdowns per round, four. So he's, like, knocking everybody down. He's doing a lot, like. And then here at near the end of the video, I. I believe there's a list of the top 10 UFC heavyweights. And there you go. He has marked off that many of them. Right. So he has really been the most active guy in the most. I mean, arguably the champion. So this will be a very strange night of saying the indisputed heavyweight champion when there's a lot of dispute right here.
Jay Leno
How. How large is Tom Aspinal?
Unknown Analyst
He's a big boy. He's a big boy. He's coming in close to the limit, I'm pretty sure.
Jay Leno
Oh, really?
Unknown Analyst
Yeah. I mean, he's. And again, the camera, you see that he just looks like a middleweight or something because he's fighting big, big guys. Right. So. And so he doesn't look. I think he's coming in underneath the. The. The weight class, but he is definitely, like, as far as speed goes, he's up there with the top of the heavyweights. Real fast hand speed and. Yeah. So they mocked this up here.
Jay Leno
Yeah.
Unknown Analyst
30 years old. He's younger than Jon Jones, and he is definitely campaigning. That's the whole thing about this fight, is that no matter what, Aspinall is going to be a big question mark. And John is openly. I mean, look, I don't want to say that he's scared, but he's openly ducking him.
Jay Leno
He is.
Unknown Analyst
He. Yeah. Like, I don't think he's scared. I just think that for him, it doesn't make sense to his legacy or whatever you call it. Yeah, yeah.
Jay Leno
I will tell folks in the booth that I cannot do the kilogram math. And don't give me his weight in stone either, because I don't know that one either. But he appears to be a couple of kilograms heavier than John, so he's.
Unknown Analyst
Like, yeah, eight pounds heavier and a.
Jay Leno
Couple of centimeters taller as well. 65256 is definitely a big boy. I think it was the crazy tattoos that shrunk him down a little for me. I don't see the guys. It seems like all the middleweights have all the crazy tattoos and the heavyweights have less. Then maybe that's. There's just more skin to cross.
Unknown Analyst
That's the joke is that Tom Aspinall is like very. He changes his mind about his tattoos because he'll get a tattoo and then get it covered up. And get a tattoo and then get it covered up.
Jay Leno
So Aspinall's a Brit.
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
All right, well, so this is the fight we want to see next. If Jon Jones beats Stipe.
Unknown Analyst
Yep. And that's tall order, but again.
Jay Leno
Well, Stipe is not a tall order, but the Aspinall fight could be a tall order.
Unknown Analyst
Yes.
Jay Leno
You don't think Jon Jones is going to rush to make.
Unknown Analyst
I don't think he's going to walk through Stipe. First of all, I don't think it's going to be a night.
Jay Leno
But if Jon Jones beats Stipe. Yeah, Might. Might Jon Jones retire.
Unknown Analyst
The whole Internet is going banana sandwich because he is trying to say he's going to retire. That's all I need to do. But everyone's like, what the hell? This guy has been fighting the whole time, you know, behind the scenes, being the interim heavyweight champion and not getting necessarily the respect that he deserves.
Jay Leno
We got some footage or we got a still of Stipe and Jon Jones up from eight years ago though, or something, because it says Stipe is 37, but he's like 42, right?
Unknown Analyst
Yeah.
Jay Leno
And John's 30. I don't even know because everyone's age is changing because depending on how old the stills were from Ryan, Sean. 39. 36.
Unknown Analyst
36.
Jay Leno
Well, 36 said the last one, but we don't know. Is he 36? I thought he was a little older for some reason.
Unknown Analyst
I thought it was 38. I guess I got my math wrong.
Jay Leno
Could be his current age today is 36. Yes.
Unknown Advertiser
Okay.
Jay Leno
All right. But Steve, Ace. 40 or 43 or something. No. So he's 37. He's 42. All right, well, there we go. And Stipe weighs nine and a half stone. All right, I think we've heard enough from you and from me and from collectively us. So thanks, man.
Unknown Analyst
Great job, man.
