So when I ask, what is Odoo, what comes to mind? Well, Odoo is a bit of everything. Odoo is a suite of business management software that some people say is like fertilizer because of the way it promotes growth. But, you know, some people also say Odoo is like a magic beanstalk because it grows with your company and is also magically affordable. But then again, you could look at Odoo in terms of how its individual software programs are a lot like building blocks. I mean, whatever your business needs, manufacturing, accounting, HR programs, you can build a custom software suite that's perfect for your company. So what is Odoo? Well, I guess Odoo is a bit of everything. Odoo is a fertilizer, magic beanstalk, building blocks for business. Yeah, that's it. Which means that Odoo is exactly what every business needs. This is iOS Today, episode 748 with Rosemary Orchard and me, Micah Sargent. Recorded Tuesday, April 1, 2025, for Thursday, April 17, 2025. Accessories and gizmos. Hello and welcome to iOS Today, the show where we talk all things iOS, iPad, OS, watch OS, home pod, OS and more. Didn't quite hit that note. My voice is dry. I am one of your hosts, Micah Sargent. The singing. I don't know.
Rosemary Orchard
And. Oh, yeah, sorry, I, I have all the things ready. I'm ready.
Micah Sargent
Oh, wow.
Rosemary Orchard
And I, I brought the goodies because, you know, somebody said accessories and gizmos, and I, I, I just kind of had to go, yeah, grab, grab the cool stuff. So I've got some things here ready.
Micah Sargent
To show off, get it all in hand. So this is the, I think we, you know, we do these episodes every once in a while where we gather together of the tech that we're using that we think is pretty cool and might be something that you yourself is. You yourself are interested in. Now, these episodes tend to be a little long, so I think we should just get right underway. Rosemary, kick it off with your first pick.
Rosemary Orchard
Well, my first pick is a keyboard, because a keyboard is just one of those things where it's really nice to own it. And this is the Logitech MX Keys Mini. Now I'm gonna say this is the MX Keys Mini. There is also a mechanical version of this. There's also the non mini version which has the number pad and the arrows are off to one side and it's got like the home page and buttons. But whether or. There are two reasons why I love this. Number one, USBC for charging or for plugging in via a cable if you need to. And number two, you can connect this to three devices. So sometimes I need a keyboard, but with my phone, rarely. But sometimes. Sometimes I need it with my Mac, sometimes I need it with my iPad, sometimes I want it with a tv, like at a TV tv. Because it's like, yeah, you need to like side into like this thing to be able to install the latest update. And have you tried typing ON like a 1 to 9 or 0 to 9 keyboard recently? Like I used to be able to do T9 texting back in the day, but it often doesn't even let you do that properly. And it's just like use the arrow keys on a QWERTY keyboard on screen and I'm there going, for the sake of my sanity, a Bluetooth keyboards with my favorite devices. So obviously I have the white version or the silver with white. White keys here. But it does also come in a sort of space grayish color with black keys, if you would prefer that. And honestly, I really love this keyboard. It's. It feels nice to use. It's got nice sort of round dimples on the square keys, so it's easy for your fingers to find the right keys. And depending on which one you get, you can either get the Mac one, the Windows one, or the Universal. This one is the universal one. So I have vertical splits on some of my keys, you know, visually, not physically, so that it could be the option key or the start button on Windows, for example, which makes it easy if I need to connect this to another device. And yeah, honestly, keyboards, they're. They're just one of those really handy things to have Logitech make good ones. And so this retails for $99. You can often get it for less if you look at Amazon deals or similar. And also don't forget the classic somebody bought it and they're not using it, so you can pick it up really cheaply secondhand from somebody. But yeah, this is one of my favorite keyboards. And honestly, if I'm going somewhere and I might be asked to solve tech support problems, I'll take this with me because this way at least I know I'm going to have a decent keyboard that's not necessarily sticky and covered in Gunk.
Micah Sargent
Nice. All right. So for the longest time I have wanted to have, well, I shouldn't say for the longest time. Ever since Apple introduced the fine woven cases and then suddenly kind of made them disappear. But more importantly got rid of its own leather cases and only started offering the silicone models and of course the clear case. I have missed having a leather iPhone case. I like the premium feel of the leather case. I like the softness of the leather case, I like how I can clean it. And I have tried lots of third party cases that for the most part just didn't do it for me. They just weren't quite what I was after. And for the longest time, this part truly for the longest time I have avoided like the plague any Otterbox case. Because Otterbox is known. And this is personally for me, Otterbox cases are fantastic when it comes to people wanting to protect their devices. If you are worried that your device is going to get hurt, you buy the Otterbox case and you put it in this sealed bubble of a case that was never for me, bulky, unnecessary, because I'm not a phone dropper or hurter usually knock on wood. And so I avoided that brand. However, I was going caseless for a bit because I got tired of my clear case from Apple and decided, you know what, I want to put it back in the case. I want a case. Let's figure it out. So I was scrolling through the Apple store and I came across this beautiful green case and thought that is interesting. And then I saw it was Otterbox and I thought, I don't know about that. But I went ahead and I picked it up $59.95 and it is delightful. So this is a case that is made of cactus leather. It is cactus leather. That is not referencing the fact that it is green. It is actual leather of cactus. I just happened to get the green one. Obviously it's a two tone model. I'm trying to like hide my eyes while still making sure that it's in sight. Because the autofocus for people who are listening, like, why do you need to hide your eyes? It's a two tone case and it has the nice machined buttons on the side. So the side button, the volume up and down button and the action button all get a machined button there. So it feels really nice. The only two quibbles I have about it is I tend to be someone who likes an iPhone case that has an opening at the bottom because of the ability to swipe up. This does not. But I haven't missed it, the bottom of the case is pretty shallow, so it hasn't been too big of a problem. And then because this case was made before, you know, there was any absolute certainty and clarity, I think on what Apple was going to be doing with the camera control, it is just a cutout for the camera control button on the side as opposed to what you get with Apple's first party cases and some late model third party cases that offer what is essentially a pass through to the action or to the camera control button by way of a capacitive kind of transference button. I am okay with it. I ended up being okay with it because with this my finger naturally slides down into that spot there. And so it actually feels a little bit more secure using the camera control button this way than otherwise. I love this case so far. It has the magnet on the back. Like everything still works. My Apple leather. I still have an apple leather MagSafe case that walks to it just fine because I got it in green. It looks great with this. I have been very, very happy with this Otterbox, what's called the Statement series Cactus Leather case. I think if there was one other thing I would happily leave off, but obviously they're not going to because it is their company, the Otterbox. Let me see if I can get the camera to refocus here. Yeah, the Otterbox sort of word mark is carved into the side of it. Not big on having the branding kind of on my stuff like that, but it's fine. It's in a place where most people are probably not going to see it. And I'm very. It feels good in hand. The texture is really nice. And so it's almost kind of like fidgety in the sense that I can sort of, you know, run my fingers across it. And it feels nice. Knowing that it's made of cactus is just kind of cool, but also better for the environment. And yeah, I. It's like I want to learn how to make cactus leather because of this. That's what this is inspired in me. So I can't speak highly enough of this case. I really, really like it. And again, that's the Otterbox Statement series Cactus Leather case. It is, I believe, exclusive in the Apple App store, if I remember correctly. So you will have to go there to pick it up. All right, Rosemary, what's next on your list?
Rosemary Orchard
Well, next on my list is a little thing that I love to take with me when I'm traveling because despite the fact that the Apple TV has physically gotten smaller, I still can't use it on a plane, that that's just not a thing that I can do. And also it's just not really practical to travel with an Apple tv, especially when I'm already traveling with an iPad. But one of the things I miss when I'm doing things like watching shows and stuff is having a remote control. And so I have the Satechi R2 Bluetooth multimedia remote control. They also do an R1 which is slightly different. So if you are interested in this, have a look at both and see which one works for you. Now what I like about this is this is a metal remote control with plastic buttons on it. So it's similar in some ways to the newer Siri remotes. Does charge via USBC at the bottom has a power on and off slider. So it's not gonna randomly be pressing buttons in your bag. But this on the side has a slider. You slide it up for multimedia, you slide it down for presentation mode. So if you're going to be giving a presentation, you'd like a remote control for that, like a physical remote clicker for going to like different slides and so on, you can use this and it has like buttons that have a nice click to it as well. Now in multimedia mode, which is why I primarily use it for, it's got your play pause, your volume up and down, your fast forwarding, rewinding, which works in vast majority of apps. It does. Unfortunately the rewinding and fast forwarding apparently doesn't work in the YouTube app, but if you watch YouTube in Safari, then it does work there. And it's also got like an on screen laser pointer feature in the presentation mode. Um, and yeah, this is just a really nice remote that you can connect to an iPad or an iPhone or a Mac and use it as a presentation remote and a multimedia remote. And I personally find that this makes, you know, my, my travel experience for a whole bunch of things just a bit nicer. You know, I'm delivering a presentation, I no longer have to worry about making sure that I am within keyboard range or whatever off my device as I'm walking around talking. If I'm watching something, I can be snuggled up under the covers in my hotel bed as I'm falling asleep and I can hit pause on this to, you know, stop whatever it is before I go to sleep and all of those things. And yeah, I, I personally just really like, I mean I love Satechi stuff anyway. But there are two Bluetooth multimedia remote control is one of those little things. It doesn't take up a lot of space. So it just lives in my little travel pouch of things, which I happen to have right here. It just goes in there, and it's always there. And then I have the ability to control my devices easily as I would like to. And this retails for 44.99, but you can often pick it up cheaper on sale, which I greatly appreciate.
Micah Sargent
My next pick. I've shown this off on MacBrick weekly before, and I just love this thing. It was a Christmas gift. It is the Lark Lar K Hue Purevis bottle. So the Lark bottle, the reason why I wanted one is because I knew that it had a UV light in the lid. And so essentially, what. What you do, what happens is you fill it with water and you drink your water, and then every few hours, it lights up that UV light, which helps to kill bacteria that starts to collect in a water bottle. I'm notoriously like, I drink a lot of water, and so I'm always. I've always got water with me, but that means that I'm constantly refilling my water bottle and maybe not cleaning it out as much as I should because I'm just like, oh, time to put more water in it. Time to put more water in it. Your water bottle starts to get a little stinky, and then it comes time to clean it. Well, mine just goes in the sink until I'm ready with this. It's a lot longer between cleaning periods because of that UV light. What I didn't realize is that it also had some more features. Like, I literally only wanted it for that. It just so happened that when I got it, I learned, oh, here's what else it does. It also tracks your water intake and gives you reminders throughout the day to have you continue to drink. So it has a sensor inside that can tell how far down the water is from the top of the lid. And when you take off the lid, the accelerometer and other sensors inside can say, oh, you know, you're jostling the lid. So I need to remeasure the current water level. When you turn the bottle, it also runs the sensor to measure the current water level. Assuming that you have probably consumed some water from it, then it tells, okay, this is how far down it is from my last reading. Or if you have just filled it, then it goes, okay, this person has filled it up again. It's time to kind of start fresh. When it goes down from there, then we add to how much water has been consumed. If you set like this is how much water I want to have consumed in a day and it gives you some recommendations and then it helps to split that up throughout the day. By X time, you should have consumed this amount of water. And so every, you know, every little while, if you have not gone to pick up the water bottle again, the lights on the top will flash to say, hey, don't forget to have some water. It's my little reminder. Oh yeah, time to hydrate. Because having water all at once when you realize that you're dehydrated is not the same as keeping hydrated throughout the day. It makes a difference to to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. The Lark though, also has a third feature which is a special straw that you can install. I currently don't have the straw installed, but you can install a straw that has on the end of it a little filter. And so it helps to filter out water. And I've used that because at home I have a filtration system because I'm a huge water drinker and I also like my dogs to have filtered water instead of just water from the sink. And so all of that works at home. But if I'm out and about or if I'm at a friend's house and I've brought my water bottle along and they obviously don't have the same filtration offerings as I do in most cases, having this little straw in there is helpful to kind of clear out the things that I would prefer to not have as part of my water intake. So I found it very handy. In many ways it is on the pricey side, but by golly, is it not the most attract water bottle I've ever owned, as well as a really cool high tech water bottle. And now it beautifully matches my very green theme with my phone as well, thanks to that Otterbox case. So this is the smaller of the options at $119, although it's on sale for a little bit right now and Amazon regularly does sales as well. So be sure to use camelcamelcamel to keep track of that. And yeah, that's the lark. PureViz2 what is next on your list?
Rosemary Orchard
Rosemary Next on my list is something that's not headphones and it is speakers, but it's personal speakers because I have a little difficulty if I'm wearing overhead headphones like I'm wearing the AirPods Max right now. After a couple hours it starts to hurt like it doesn't matter what it is, but the band will just start digging into the top of my head. In ear headphones are fine, but again, after a while it's not particularly comfortable. And wearing in ear headphones for really long extended periods of time can be not great for your ears. But as I wander around my house doing things like cleaning, tidying, chores at the weekend, or I'm just, you know, getting up, doing a bit of cooking, doing some preparation, then going back, doing some reading and so on, I want to take the audio with me. Now obviously I have the choice of playing things on homepods around my house, but if it's say an audiobook, music is considerably less noticeable. But an audiobook I have found can drift a little out of sync between speakers, which is not great. And so I have the Sony SRS NB10 wireless neck band speaker. So you literally just drape this around your neck. It's got two little speakers at the back, it does have a microphone and so on at the front. So if you wanted to use this as like a conference type headset, obviously it's not gonna work in an open plan office with lots of people in, but if you're somebody who works from home, it can be great for that, then you can do that as well. And this just connects to your device via Bluetooth and it plays out of the two little speakers at the back and it just sits around your neck and it's honestly great. I really love this. It does not weigh a lot. So I can wear it and I can wear it over my hair, which, you know, it, it. I have relatively long hair, so if it were heavy it would pull on my hair and that would start to hurt and that wouldn't be comfortable. I do tend to pull my hair out just because that's what I prefer to do. But I have also worn this underneath like those giant fluffy winter hoodies, the ones that come down like to your knees and have got like sherpa lining. And I can still hear like, and it's fine because like it just sits on top. It does have some physical controls built into the front of each part. Um, so over on this side I have the, the power on the Bluetooth and speaker. And then also I have a little flap that I can open to charge this via USB C which is great. And then over on the other side I have buttons for like play pause, which is the middle one and volume up, volume down. So I can control this on the physical speakers or through whatever I'm playing back from. Now they sell a couple of different versions of this. This one retails for about $159 directly from Sony. However, what I really like about this is when you connect this to something like a TV or an Apple TV or similar. Because that way as you like get up and you're like, oh, right, I just need to like go rotate this thing in the oven, for example, going back to our lost cooking series. Or I'm just gonna run and grab my water bottle because I left it in the other room and I need to take a drink and my phone's just reminded me you can still hear things. And yes, I, I really appreciate the fact that I can have a really comfortable listening experience everywhere I go with just one thing connected to my, my phone. And range on this is pretty good as well. I have to say I forgot that I was using this at one point. I was kind of just used to the audio following me everywhere. I left my phone inside and I went to take out the recycling, which is a little bit of a walk out of the building and around the corner. And so it is like a good, you know, 30 meters through multiple walls. So like 150ft through multiple walls with a lot of interference and it didn't cut out, which I was incredibly impressed with. So yeah, I have to give props for Sony for their wireless neck band speaker.
Micah Sargent
Yeah, that is again, in, in the right setting. That is, that is a good. All right, one more mention. For me, this device is something that I think is a really cool option for people who, especially for people who live in older homes. If you have an older home, you may have some issues with wifi in your home and trying to get signal to places that you need it. And Ubiquiti makes an app app called Wi Fi Man. And I was doing an episode of Hands on Tech and someone in the chat had mentioned it because there was a person who was having some issues. And so you can Download and use WiFi man on Linux, on macOS and on Windows. And it sort of is a spectrum analyzer. It can help to kind of analyze your own network and see what's running properly, what's not. But in learning about that, I just so happened to come across a device that Ubiquiti sells called the WiFi Man Wizard. It's available for $99. And the WiFi Man wizard is a little spectrum analyzer that comes with a little silicone case that you can use to magnet to the back of your phone. And it integrates with the app, the WiFi man app that's also available on, on iOS and on Android to be a full on spectrum Analyzer. So it goes past just being able to kind of use the built in WI FI radio of your device and compare it with the WI FI radio of another device, which is how the app works with something that is purpose built to do this. It gives the WI FI man app a lot more functionality and a lot more understanding of how the network is set up. You can break it up between different channels. So suddenly I can see across my whole 2.4 GHz network, what channels are busy, what channels are great, what signal is great. 5 gigahertz. I have one 6 gigahertz band as well. And so seeing how that one is performing. And then what's cool is that if you want to, you can also use AR to actually create an augmented reality map of your space. And then the WI FI spectrum analyzer is used to map out the signal in a given space. So green where the signal is high, red where the signal is low throughout the entire space. So then I can see, oh, in this corner of this room, things are going great. But because this and this are in the way now I understand why it's not possible for me to get the service that I'm looking for or the speed that I'm looking for in the home. So really cool little device that helps you, again, sort of analyze the WI FI spectrum in your home. And this ends up being, I think, one of those tools that for me, it was mostly one time use. Right? I don't do a whole. Once you've got everything settled in and figured out, you don't do a whole lot of changing to where your WI FI routers are placed. If you've had the opportunity to go, this is exactly what I want. But you end up moving, you want to use it again. If you have friends who are trying to get things, they're having an issue. Suddenly this comes in handy and you can go, oh, well, here's why. And I think more importantly, you can finally teach that friend who takes their router and sticks it into a metal cabinet underneath their television why they're having such WI FI signal issues in their home. Where before you go, it doesn't work that way. And they go, you've got the facts now, you've got the maps. And you can say, see, it's not getting out of this spot. So that's pretty neat as well. All right, let's round out our accessories and gizmos with Rosemary's final pick.
Rosemary Orchard
Well, my final pick, I've only got one part of it here, I should say There is a second part to it, but this is the Orbitkey 2 in one tech accessory pouch. Now folks may be looking at this on the video and going, hey, this looks kind of similar to like the peak design case and things like that. Yes, a lot of these do look similar. So this has a little pocket on the front where I have a field notes notebook. Highly recommend keeping a little notebook in your tech accessory pouch because you never know when to need to make a note. And I also have an airtag in the front pocket as well because you don't want to leave your tech accessory pouch behind if it's got all those goodies in it. And then inside it's got multiple elasticated pockets on both sides. And then it's got a divider in the middle with the secondary divider there. And I've got a little remote control in there. It's got a couple of pen loops. So I have my classic four in one pride pen here so that it's got all the rainbow on it. So I've got four colors to write with and all the colors on my pencil. And for demonstration effects, because I don't usually keep this, I have my giant Uniball one here, which is a very chunky pen. And I love writing with this thing. I didn't. I wouldn't usually take this with me, but it was on my desk and I was like, I'm just gonna demonstrate how great the pen loops are on this thing. So, yeah, I really love this little Orbit key case. It comes with another smaller tech pouch which you could pop inside or keep separately in your bag. It has a nice little carry handle on the back, but it's also got places around the sides where you can like loop your fingers in to like just hold it or whatever if you need to. And yeah, I find that this is a really good size. It's got enough space in the big compartment where I popped in the remote I was talking about earlier. And yeah, I could put a decent sized battery pack in there. I currently have an ESR MagSafe stand. I've got some cables in here, including my anchor cable that divides into two, which I've talked about previously on the show. And yeah, it's an easy wipe clean material as well. And I appreciate the fact it comes in black and I think it comes in a brown as well. And then there's a partnership with Marie Kondo, but like, it's just black. And the Orbit key logo on it, it's just a little silver. It's not particularly intrusive or anything. So it's a nice way to stick all of your travel stuff together so that you can have this. And a bonus tip for you folks, if you're packing something like this, it's probably going to be quite heavy. I recommend sticking this in the bottom of your backpack, not the top of your backpack if you're using a backpack or any other kind of bag. Because if you put it in the bottom, then when you put that on the floor, if this is at the top, it's going to take all of that weight and go bunk and it's going to fall over and land on your foot. If you put this in the bottom, it will help keep everything upright. So yeah, little reminder for you. But yeah, I really like this. And also even when it's quite full, it's still somewhat squishy and malleable. Like things aren't going to get broken inside of it, but they are going to be. You are going to be able to like squish this case if you're trying to shove those last minute bonus purchase souvenirs into a carry on, for example, around it.

This is courtesy of Scooter X, who posted earlier today. I really think I'M going to get some of this check out line 22. Dbrand has announced what is Even though it's April Fools and it is a funny haha. It's also a real product called the Touch Grass and it's made up of thousands of strands of fake grass and their skins or cases for your different devices. I'm not usually a dbrand kind of person but however I think this would be very delightful to have to run your fingers across some nice like little astroturf grass for your device. So they have it for the iPhone, the Mac. Oh my goodness, my whole MacBook covered with AstroTurf would be so cool. IPad also the let's see what is included in other AirPods and AirTag as well as Asus, the gaming handheld. Some some grips for like the. Oh those that's their cases. Google devices like the Pixel, Nintendo, the Wii or I always say the Wii, the Switch, the Valve, Steam Deck, on and on and on and on and on. Available at I think a really good price. So I just may have to Touch Grass. That's oof. I like it. I like it. Yeah, so I'm throwing that in there as well. Let's give that a name of Touch Grass. So that is from the dbrand brand.
Rosemary Orchard
I really appreciate how far they've gone with this, with the whole like Windows. I think that's a Windows 98 UI. It's definitely not as recent as me, but I don't think it's quite as far back as Windows 95 but it's like 95, 98 era April Fool's joke. That's actually real because that's what dbrand do. So if you actually want this, it is a joke product, but it's a real product that you can purchase. So yeah, I kind of want this now.
Micah Sargent
Yeah, I think I'm going to do it for my iPad. Yeah, I think that'd be perfect. Ooh, I wonder if it's for the iPad mini. Yeah. Okay. Touch Grass. All right, really quick, let's move on to the news. So one little news story here, which is that Apple has announced its Worldwide Developers Conference. And since as you know, Apple every year holds its WWDC, this will be the week of June 9th. The event is the time where Apple has always and will very much likely continue to announce the latest versions of its operating systems. I'm very excited about this year, Rosemary, because we are about to be presented as we've heard, as is rumored, as is reported by Mark Gurman, that we're going to see a huge refresh in the design of the various operating systems. Why does that make me excited? Because it keeps Rosemary and I full fit to bursting with so many new opportunities to teach you all about your devices. And it's just a fun to get to see and learn new things and experience new things. So I for one have a lot of hope and joy going into this WWDC as Apple, you know, takes off the wraps on its new systems and we get to see what things are going to look like and how they're going to behave. Because I had Gurman on Tech News Weekly and German specifically said it's not just a visual redesign, it is a user experience redesign as well. We're not just getting a new coat of paint. This is going to be a complete overhaul of the system. So I know a lot of you will have questions after that happens and that means exciting things to come for us here on iOS. Yes, indeed. Are you, are you thinking about attending this year?
Rosemary Orchard
I was looking at doing it, but timing wise it just unfortunately, as always, ends up clashing with a couple of other things I've got going on really close to the time. So I at the moment I'm not playing on planning on flying over for it, especially because it's unlikely that I'm going to get a ticket. And by the time you find out if you've got a ticket, it's expensive to book things, so I would have to speculatively pay for a plane ticket in a hotel and then maybe not even get to go to wwdc. And unfortunately, unlike previous times, there aren't that many parallel events going on in the same week for all those people that didn't get WWDC tickets.
