Amy Robach
Hey there, folks. It is Wednesday, December 31, and Cardi B went on social media this week, put out a video pleading with her fans to stop being mean and criticizing her over her relationship with her boyfriend, Stefan Diggs. The very next day, he was charged with felony strangulation. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ Robes. We need to start here. Yes, the headlines that her boyfriend was charged need to make clear. Not against her having to do with a former employee. But this kind of got us talking because, dear lady, this is a bit of a mess right now for Cardi B. And there's a Cardi B side to this and there's a legal side to this with her boyfriend, but our hearts kind of went out to her in hearing her plea online.
TJ Holmes
Yeah, and there's a personal side to this, too. So she just had a baby with Stefan Diggs in November. And part of the criticism came up because they had to spend Christmas apart. And I say had to, but Stephan Diggs was posting pictures with some of his other there. Apparently there was at least one other newborn and then not with Cardi B. So, yes, there. People were outraged for her. They didn't think she's being treated right. She's probably overwhelmed by a messy family situation. You've got.
Amy Robach
We call it a messy one.
Advertisement Voice
Yes.
Amy Robach
It's a family situation, like so many people. It's a mixed family. It's a blended family. There are kids over here, the kids over there, and it's the holidays. We've done episodes about this period point blank. But to that point, Robes, this is Cardi B, who was very active on social media, who gives fire in her albums a lot of times and her songs. She is used to taking incoming. I thought it said a lot that she put this video out.
TJ Holmes
She seemed extremely vulnerable, extremely frustrated and hurt and wounded. You know, it's one thing to deal with all of those family pressures personally, privately, to now have everyone weighing in. And, you know, she felt like they were hating on her, that she was asking people, you just said it. Please stop being so mean. Why are y' all being so mean? I wish the best for you. Why are you not doing the same for me? I need your support.
Amy Robach
And I'll be honest, when I first saw the headlines about her video and then read excerpts of it, I thought one thing. Well, then when I went back and watched it, it comes off differently. It almost seems like just, I mean, she's laying on a couch, got a head wrap on, and she. It looks like she just decided something in the moment got her and she just hit record. And like, damn, y'. All. It came off a little differently.
TJ Holmes
Yeah. She wasn't all dolled up and doing some big speech about, you know, online hate. No, she was real in her home, comfortable and kind of not. It was venting in one way, but it was more. You felt sorry for her.
Amy Robach
Yes. Yes.
TJ Holmes
Your heart went out to her. You weren't. It didn't seem like she was as angry as she was hurt.
Amy Robach
Yes. And we're used to her being angry in her word. I'm saying not a mad person. But she is not.
TJ Holmes
She's tough.
Amy Robach
She's a tough cookie. She's a tough cookie. So this comes out one day. I think you pointed the video out to me first, so I didn't know what was coming. Maybe she did, maybe she didn't. But the very next day, her boyfriend, Stefan Diggs, superstar Pro bowl level receiver for the now surging and playoff bound New England Patriots, Word now got it. Yesterday happened in court that he is being charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery. The accusation is that he slapped and choked someone who used to work for him, his former chef. And this was all over a financial dispute. Now, robe we go through in a. I say Stefan Diggs. Outside of the football world, football fan world. I don't know how many people are familiar with him. But certainly Moore got familiar when he started dating her.
Advertisement Voice
Of course, I didn't.
TJ Holmes
Obviously not shocking. I did not know who he was. And yes, so his name became much bigger. His fame grew much higher because of Cardi B. Period. No question.
Amy Robach
Wasn't it the. And it might have been a really big deal. Remember what was it on. On CBS with. With Gail. She announced at the same time. What a new album and she was pregnant.
TJ Holmes
Yes.
Amy Robach
So this was a big deal. She's been putting this relationship out there in a major way.
TJ Holmes
Yes.
And she talked about how she was having the baby right before the holidays and then going on tour in February. So she was hitting the ground running. So she's a busy. I mean, successful. Doing well, it seems like, yay. She's just had a baby. She's got her. Her boyfriend, her man. She's got a new tour starting. And yet you see her on the couch pleading with the public.
Amy Robach
All right, so again, that was the day before we ended up getting word. Now Yesterday about this arrest. So we need to. I say arrest. They is not in custody. His attorney actually made an appearance for him. But it did happen in court yesterday. But Robes, according to the court documents, the incident. And we should say here, we are not talking about a civil lawsuit. We are not talking about somebody at this point who has sued him for millions of dollars for an incident. We're not talking about someone who has even sued to get her money back in this financial dispute. No, she has gone to police and said, this guy assaulted me and he is now facing charges. So Robes, this goes back to the incident apparently happened Dec. 2, according to court documents. Go ahead.
TJ Holmes
Yeah, no, that's right. And I was saying just to have Cardi B's video put out when it was. She went to police on the 16th. So you would think that Cardi B had to be aware, was aware of what was coming. And maybe this was a way to soften the news, saying, hey, I already feel stress about what y' all are saying about my relationship. And she knew once this news came out, it was gonna reach a fever pitch.
Amy Robach
All right, so the incident again, apparently on December 2, believe it happened at Diggs home. This was a personal chef who was working for him and there was a dispute over whether she should be paid monthly or paid weekly. We won't get into all of that. But this chef does have text message exchanges that she has handed over Police. That shows there was a heated dispute at least going on via text. Now, that text, a few. Robes apparently rolls over into a face to face dispute when he apparently confronts her in the bedroom. Her bedroom at his home. I believe I have that right. Where she had things. It gets into a back and forth and said she got angry. Excuse me, he got angry. And next thing you know, he's got her. A chokehold is what she describes, at least from this police report.
TJ Holmes
Yeah, she said that she felt like she was having trouble breathing. She said that she felt like she could have blacked out. She got to that point where she felt like that was possible. But she said that she doesn't have any pictures of any injuries sustained during that altercation. But police obviously listened to her, saw the text messages and made the decision. And she said she was hesitant to come forward. The reason why she waited is because of who Stefan Diggs was. She knew this was going to be a major, massive headline if she went forward with her complaint.
Amy Robach
So, I mean, that's a serious. This is a serious incident. Again, it's felony strangulation that he's being charged with. She said he slapped her in that room. Anytime he tried or she tried to get away from him, he squeezed and choked her a little harder. By the time the incident finally did stop, said he threw her on the bed and said something along the lines of, yeah, I thought so. And that's the incident. And now here we are. Now it. There is something about a non disclosure. I think you might have seen this as well. Robes. That came later. She was asked to sign a non disclosure by his assistant. She refused to do that. Say, hey, you sign a non disclosure and he'll pay you your money. She refused. And now here we are. Now that we've seen a lot of stories and accusations and stuff, that goes to some credibility.
TJ Holmes
It absolutely does. Because if it was about getting money or about getting paid and perhaps maybe even getting a little extra, we don't know if that was on the table for pain and suffering or anything she incurred during that altercation that she claims happened. Yeah, the fact that she said no thanks, didn't sign the NDA, didn't take the money and instead went to police. She didn't file a civil lawsuit, she didn't go to an attorney, she went to a police station. That does speak to credibility.
Amy Robach
She also robes. And this will. I haven't seen it make as many headlines yet. But the possibility that Cardi B is now in the middle of this story in that the woman claims in her police report that she was contacted by a woman, I think a text message and a voicemail essentially saying, don't make such a big deal out of this. In the report, at least it says she believes it was the girlfriend of Stefan Diggs, who of course is Cardi B, but didn't name Cardi B in the report.
TJ Holmes
Yes. I mean, so that makes a lot of sense. And so also now hearing what we heard from Cardi B.
Advertisement Voice
That level she.
TJ Holmes
Knew what was coming. This was. This is a huge story. This is a massive stain.
Amy Robach
And if it's an incident now where she was involved in trying to get a woman who was assaulted from going and seeking police help, is that. That is the storyline correct there. And it's going to be. But again, we don't know. This is one person making an accusation. You mentioned the Patriots and why the woman said she didn't want to come forward because she knew of the affiliation with the Patriots. And look, the Patriots right now are having a hell of a year. The Patriots right now have secured a playoff spot. The Patriots right now haven't been in the playoffs since 2021. And they haven't had a receiver do as well as Stefan Diggs since I think 2019 or so. This is a big deal for this organization. And Robes right now. They're standing by their guy.
TJ Holmes
Yes, they are. They say they are aware of the accusations. Obviously everybody is right now. But their intimation was they were aware of them before we all were aware of them. And they made a very strong statement saying Stephon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegation. Period. We support Stephon, Period.
Amy Robach
Yeah. I mean, they listened to their guy. He is their family member. He's an important one. Now, if the third string punter was going through this and came into the office, I don't know if the statement would be the same.
TJ Holmes
Yes. And if the Patriots were doing as well, I mean, they need Stefan Diggs. I mean, you can tell me. Yes, okay. In a way that. Yes, I fully understand.
Amy Robach
Key to their success and a very young quarterback they have. He is absolutely critical to what they're trying to do, which is win a Super bowl for the first time since they had a guy named Brady as their quarterback. This is a big deal. So his response as well, we should certainly mention that Diggs did have a response from his lawyer. And we read a lot of statements. Robes and I don't want to get in there and completely break it down, but. But he's saying this did not happen.
TJ Holmes
Yes. Should we read the whole statement? Yes. This is what his lawyer put out. Stefan Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the allegation is crystal clear. They are the direct result of an employer employee financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee's satisfaction. Stephane looks forward to establish establishing the truth in a court of law, which.
Amy Robach
He has every right to do. And this is nothing but an allegation at this point. But he is saying this whole incident didn't happen. This woman has filed a police report. The motivation would then have to simply be, I just want to get him. I just want to make him look bad. I just want it. I made this whole lie up because there's nothing now for this chef that is beneficial. Is it just going to help her future business?
TJ Holmes
It's not going to help her future business. It's not going to help her with any sort of contract she might get now. Because if it looks as if she's somebody who goes and reacts and retaliates by going to the police. You're never going to be hired as a personal chef again. You're never going to be allowed into someone's home again.
Amy Robach
She knows that.
TJ Holmes
Wow, I hadn't thought about that.
Amy Robach
She knows doing this, that's significant. So if I am going to lose so much of my business, shouldn't I go after him financially to secure something? And she hasn't. So she had to be that mad at him in this dispute to just make up this lie and go to police. Or maybe there is something to it. Again, we've seen plenty of these just how it reads. But there is he is innocent until proven guilty and right now that's what he is. Stay here folks. We told you about that Cardi B video. We'll tell you what she said in that video and why this woman is more stressed maybe than most mothers you'll run into today. Stay here.

All right folks, we continue here on Amy and TJ talking about just what was a I guess that is tough. Robes Holidays can be tough for a lot of reasons. But Cardi B has a a new relationship with a new guy for the most part. She has a new baby, she has a new album, and she has a new tour that's about to start in February. And when she does, she's got to leave four babies at the house.
TJ Holmes
Yeah, I was gonna say. And three kids from a marriage that she's in the middle of.
Amy Robach
Yes. And the album has everything to do with that guy.
TJ Holmes
Yes. So imagine you're in the middle of a divorce. A very public divorce. You have three kids, by the way, her youngest with him is 15 months. So she has what, a two month old and a 15 month old. She basically has Irish twins divorcing the first dad and now going through some public messiness with her new guy and again about to start a tour. I cannot. I think I'm stressed out. Just hearing that makes me feel like I can't breathe.
Amy Robach
Even take the public part of it out of it. Any woman who has back to to back babies stressed as hell. Add in the job, the career, the stress, the holidays, robes. The holidays, getting all the kids, the right presents, getting the family. I I mean the the girl right now is going through.
TJ Holmes
Yeah. And neither dad there for Christmas. Like, that's. That's hard. And it's really hard.
Amy Robach
They explained. And again, you. We talked about, you were the one that reminded me that so much of it had to do with folks saw that she was not with her current boyfriend for Christmas and he was posting videos or whatever with his other kids and the family that didn't involve her. And people took issue with it, Correct?
TJ Holmes
Yes.
Amy Robach
So she didn't, by the way.
Advertisement Voice
She.
TJ Holmes
No. And obviously they've worked this out. Obviously. You talk about, hey, babe, I've got other kids, I got to figure it out. We, a lot of us who are in divorces know that you have to take. Your relationship sometimes has to take a back seat to kids being loved and feeling loved at Christmas time around the holidays. That is part of what we do.
Amy Robach
And also the. Sometimes your kids, sometimes the parent doesn't want you around their child. Right. Like his other kids. The moms might not want car to be anywhere close to those kids. Like those are just family dynamics are not a surprise to a lot of people listening to us. We mixed families.
TJ Holmes
We can't, we can't possibly know what's going on. But clearly they had it worked out. She made it very clear that they had no issue with it. But yeah, I think people were pointing out the fact that it seemed as though he had one or maybe even two children around the same time with other women that cardi b gave birth to their son. And so they're, in a way, they're trying to protect her and say, hey, get rid of him. But when you're in the middle of a relationship with somebody who you love and you understand the dynamics, I'm sure she was aware there were other pregnant women. I'm sure she knew this was all happening and she's at peace with it and they've worked it out between them and it is between them.
Amy Robach
Well, like you said, they try to protect her like you just said. But clearly based on some of the stuff she said in her video, that's not how she took it.
TJ Holmes
No, it felt.
Amy Robach
Took a lot of it.
TJ Holmes
And I'm sure some of it was not. Was not kind, was very cruel and mean. Like, what are you doing? You know, you're a. Why are you with this person? That kind of thing.
Amy Robach
Again, I'll send from the outside trying to judge somebody else relationship. As if we have any idea what the hell is really going on. But she started her video. Look, she was, she's one of my favorite artists. I spent a little time with her in Atlanta, covering a Super bowl there. Like, I had a lot of time with her. An hour and a half, kind of just. That wasn't the interview just kicking. Just sitting back in this big conference room. And I got to see her work, and I was so jealous of her because she got to be her authentic self. Like, I wish I could open my mouth and say whatever the hell I want and be me.
TJ Holmes
I hadn't thought about that.
Amy Robach
There's a charm.
TJ Holmes
I hadn't thought about that.
Amy Robach
And even though you might agree or find it objectionable or might even be profane, what comes out, I always looked at her and admired, damn. To just be you. And it's working. I always admired that. So when I see her in this video, this looks like her, but in a different way, in different tone. If you haven't heard her album, the latest album, it's about her heartache and the pain and going through divorce and wanting to be with a guy. And offset, her husband is a high profile, very successful rapper. So that album even was kind of. This was the tone I felt in this video, is the tone I heard in some of what she was writing.
TJ Holmes
It's pain.
Amy Robach
It's pain, man. It is. It is hard. All we see is the final result. That show she's about to put on. Yeah. You'll go buy the tick and go, wow, the show was great. This is a woman with four kids, two of them under the age of two, who's rehearsing 12 hours a day.
TJ Holmes
Yeah. When she said to put on the show, rehearsing 10 to 12 hours a day starting January 1st, like, this was her time.
Amy Robach
Yeah.
TJ Holmes
The holidays were her time to relax to, you know, to chill with her four kids and. Yeah. So you can understand how this video got made. It was out of desperation and pain.
Amy Robach
We'll give you some of the excerpts here that jumped out at us. We'll. We'll leave out some of the cardi b specific profanity. But she started with this. Y' all need to calm down. Y' all been dragging me for three or four days, and y' all been a little too mean to come from her to say somebody is saying that's crazy. Cause she says some crazy stuff online. She's been in online beefs before and says some wild stuff.
TJ Holmes
She can take it, she can give it, but, man, she's done. So then she says, I can't change shit. I can't go back in time. I already had a baby. Y' all want me to put my baby back in my pee? Y' all want me to leave my man and come f yours? I have so much work to do that it's stressing me out. I'm gonna be away from my babies, away from my personal life. I'm already super stressed out. I need my support system. I need my fans to support me. Don't be dragging me. It's enough, all right? It's enough.
Advertisement Voice
It's a plea.
Amy Robach
It's a rare type of plea. You see, like that. She's begging y', all please just leave me alone.
TJ Holmes
Yeah. And then she says, leave me alone. Damn, y' all scare me.
Amy Robach
I just. Oh, man, it's a. It's a mess. And your heart goes. And look, we always look at all. These are rich and famous people. They can do. I just. Man, there's something in this that is very real and maybe for us, hits home when it comes to public scrutiny. People not understanding your life, not understanding your relationship, and just nothing but incoming. And it is. But also, we relate to blended families.
TJ Holmes
Yeah.
Amy Robach
Okay. Yeah. He's got to be here, got to be there. I understand. I don't fault anybody for any of this. And sometimes life, family, it's just messy. But they're going through it publicly.
TJ Holmes
Yeah, everyone had stress for the holidays, but Cardi b has been taking it like nobody. Like, I can. I actually like. And we do have some experience with this, but, man, that's a whole other level.
Amy Robach
And again, at the core of all this right now still is potentially a victim out there who has now gone to police because she quite possibly was abused. Was assaulted.
TJ Holmes
Yes.
Amy Robach
By this guy. That is real, and that is a real victim. But it's always. We always do these stories. Robes. It's not just one side or the other. There are victims all around, often in these stories.
TJ Holmes
Yes. And it doesn't help when people weigh in and start pointing the finger at folks and saying things that you can't on here, because we do a lot of. A lot of folks, they read what you write and they take it to heart and it affects them. So, yeah, it's just another reminder to be kind. All right, with that, everyone, thank you so much for listening to us. I'm Amy Robach alongside TJ Holmes. We'll talk to you soon. Foreign.

Episode: Cardi B Pleads "Stop Being Mean" Day Before Boyfriend Faces Felony Charge
Date: December 31, 2025
Hosts: Amy Robach & TJ Holmes
Producer: iHeartPodcasts
This episode centers on the turbulent situation facing Cardi B following an emotional video posted online, pleading with her fans to “stop being mean,” just one day prior to her boyfriend, NFL player Stefan Diggs, being charged with felony strangulation following an alleged assault on a former employee. Amy and TJ unpack the public, legal, and personal sides of the drama, how it exposes the vulnerability behind celebrity life, and the complexities of blended families and public scrutiny.
Quote:
