Emily Simpson
Hi guys. Welcome to an episode of Legally Brunette. I will be your host, Emily Simpson with my co host Shane. All right, so today we are going to, I'm sure if you have watched TV or have any kind of social media you've heard or saw or read about the Las Vegas cheer murder suicide, we're going to talk about that today and go into it as as much in depth as we can as far as the information that is out there. Also, this happened a couple of weekends ago. Annabelle and I were actually at the same cheer competition that we're going to discuss. It's called jams. It's a large cheer competition. They have it in Vegas every year. It's always Valentine's weekend because like how
Shane
many, how many teams or kids or I mean, thousands. Okay. Yeah.
Emily Simpson
Yeah.
Shane
I mean it's, it's from all, all the states. Right?
Emily Simpson
From all, from all the states, from all the cheer gems. It's a big one. It's called jams. This was Annabelle's second year going. We were there last year. It's always on Valentine's Day weekend in Vegas, which is always ironic to me because Shane and I actually got married in Vegas on Valentine's Day. So now I celebrate our anniversary in Vegas without Shane. But Annabelle and I spend, you know, Valentine's Day together on our anniversary. Now good cheer competitions.
Shane
Good.
Emily Simpson
There we go. All right. So Adeline Smith. This is the name of the cheerleader. She was an 11 year old cheerleader from Utah who was found dead alongside her mother, Tanya McGeehan in a Las Vegas hotel room on February 15th. Concern first grew when the pair failed to appear at a scheduled this is a cheer competition and stopped responding to messages. Later that afternoon, hotel security entered the room after repeated concerns and discovered both victims. Authorities later determined that McGee hand. This is a mother fatally shot her daughter and then shot herself. You know, first of all, I will tell you, when it comes to the cheer competitions, they're very strict about schedules, and you have to be there at a certain time.
Shane
Yeah, it'll be like start time will be like 503.
Emily Simpson
Oh, no. Well, that's like the. The performance.
Shane
That's what I mean. But it'll be very specific.
Emily Simpson
It's very specific. They're every three minutes or whatever it is, and they keep a very strict schedul. So then your specific cheer gem, like, for example, Annabelle's cheer gem, sends out a very strict schedule that says you have to be there at a certain time for your warm up, for your practice, hair and makeup ready, and then they will perform shortly after that. So I'm sure that when she did not arrive to a warm up or to a practice right before they're scheduled to perform that day, it immediately alerts red flags, because that's not something you miss. You. You traveled all the way to Vegas for a cheer competition. So if you're not at the designated time.
Shane
Right.
Emily Simpson
And you're missing.
Shane
And didn't they see the. Like, everyone sees each other before. Everyone's probably. All the chair moms are talking, so it's like everyone knows, and then everyone's there.
Emily Simpson
And usually you stay in the same hotels. So it's like if someone isn't there, then that's an immediate. It's not like, oh, they'll just come later. So let's give a little background to this, to this family. So back in 2017, the divorce was finalized. This was between Adeline smith's parents. Tanya McGee hand is the mom and her dad. After the divorce, the two parents continue navigating custody arrangements for their daughter. Then, in 2020, there was a temporary custody change. A judge temporarily removed custody of Addie from Tanya. The decision is tied to concerns described to court records as parental alienation. And what that means is you can talk about parental alienation. You know a lot about that. So what does that mean?
Shane
Okay, let's say one parent says, hey, we're having family over on Tuesday. And can. Can so and so come over so we can celebrate together, even though it's not our day. And then the parent says no, or the parent doesn't let the kid call the other parent, or. Or they argue in court not because it's the best interest of the child for their schedule, but rather to get away from mom or dad, all kinds of crap like that.
Emily Simpson
Yeah. I just think of specific examples like
Shane
even when it comes to badmouthing the other parent to the kids about the other parents. So then you're instilling into these kids that mom or dad is bad. And then they don't have a, they don't grow with a relationship with the other parent. It's bad. It's, it's for the sole reason of the parent because they hate the other, the ex. That's the sole reason. It's not for the best thing for the child. In fact, the stupid thing is if you're really selfish, you would embrace the other parent and allow the other parent to be a part of it. Because then it would offload some of the parenting. That and, and being with the child, you would have some days off, the child would be happier. You'd have another parent, another adult that can help out as needed. But they're too short sighted to see that.
Emily Simpson
I would just have to say for a judge to order a, an actual order where her custody was taken away, that means that was some serious parental alienation. It wasn't just like she wasn't letting her call or she wasn't letting her pick up the phone if the dad called or she was kind of messing with the schedule. That was like there must have been clear evidence that she was doing everything possible to prohibit the daughter from having a relationship with the dad.
Shane
So then, then the idea is it would go to the other parent in this case because the judge is likely going to think, okay, you're a parent that will facilit a relationship with mom. So we're going to put the child in your hands and then you will facilitate. Because then if that guy's just alienating the mom, then you're just, you're no better off.
Emily Simpson
Right? But I, I guess in this decision he was the better choice at that time to allow her to have a relationship with both parents. So then in 2024 the, the custody is modified again and there's a new court ruling that updates the arrangement. Both parents are then granted joint legal and physical custody of Addie. I would assume that over those four years between 2020 and 2024 that she showed some type of change in behavior that would allow the, the modification to be modified that she has physical custody again.
Shane
Probably.
Emily Simpson
So let's talk about the days leading up to this discovery of this incident. This is February 14th, this is the day before the incident. So this is actually, I believe it was a Friday because I think that's the day we arrived in Vegas. So Addie attends cheer practice in Las Vegas. Her father later says that he spoke with both Addie and Tanya that day. According to him, nothing seemed unusual during the conversation. I also believe that, you know, I told you this when I was there with Annabelle. She didn't go. But there were a lot of kids that went to New York, New York. That was like a big thing for all those cheerleaders because there's the roller coaster.
Shane
Yeah.
Emily Simpson
And I believe the mom and Addie both went to the New York, New York, New York hotel that night.
Shane
Okay.
Emily Simpson
Probably did the roller coaster. Who knows? But I believe she posted some photos of the two of them together in Las Vegas, talking about day one there, excited to be there. Then the next day is February 15th. This is in the morning. Addie and her mother are scheduled to attend a cheer competition in Las Vegas. Like I said before, it's like her. Her coach would have put out a strict timeline as to when they're supposed to be there. They clearly don't show up. They fail to arrive at the scheduled time, and then Addie's father and her cheer coach become deeply concerned. So then at 10:43am the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department dispatch receives a welfare check request from Addie Smith's father and stepmother. Officers go to the hotel room and knock on the door. This is in the morning, 10:43. No one responds. And police do not believe anyone inside is in immediate danger.
Shane
For the dad to initiate that, that means either parents. No one could get a hold of the mom, obviously. So the parents were probably reaching out to some of them. Reaching out to him. Have you heard?
Emily Simpson
Yeah.
Shane
Or maybe he had communication with his daughter and that ended. And then he was like, what's going on?
Emily Simpson
I did read, and I don't know if it's later, but I did read that he was able to communicate or to. They must have, like, Life360 or something, because I believe he was able to see what they. Where they were or what was going on, but it got cut off at a certain time. And then he didn't have access to seeing.
Shane
Maybe the phone ended up dying or
Emily Simpson
something, or she turned it off, or. I don't know what happened, but there was a period of time where then he knew. He didn't know any longer. You know, I'll tell you. The first call that was made was the cheer coach, and the cheer coach called the dad. And that's what happened, because as soon as she didn't arrive on time, it was the cheer coach that made the first call. Obviously, then More calls start to come in. Addie's coach contacts 911 twice. I actually listened to the phone call where the coach calls 91 1. The coach calls at 11:18am and then again at 11:27am after realizing the two still have not arrived at the competition. She told dispatchers, this is the call that came in from the coach.
Shane
Is this the first day of competitions?
Emily Simpson
No, this is the second day. But I don't know what their schedule was. I don't know if they competed the day before.
Shane
Well, that's what I meant. So you don't. You don't know if it was their first competition?
Emily Simpson
Yeah.
Shane
Or. Or not.
Emily Simpson
Okay, Because I. I don't know, because I just know Annabelle's on two teams, and each of her teams competed twice. So she actually competed four times. So this is the call that came in from the coach. She said to 91 1, her mom has a bunch of medical issues. They're staying at the Rio, but no one can get a hold of them. We think the child. Because she doesn't have custody, we think the child possibly is in imminent danger. So. But the hotel won't give us any information on if they're in the room or not. It has to go through you guys. Now, I don't know why the coach said she doesn't have custody. Maybe the coach was just confused with the custody arrangement, because as far as I know, she got. She got physical custody back in 2024. But maybe the coach wasn't aware. Maybe the coach just knew that they'd had.
Shane
Well, a lot of people use that term loosely and aren't familiar with, you know, nor should she have to be familiar with exactly what the arrangement is.
Emily Simpson
Well, you know what else it might have been? When she. When the coach said she doesn't have custody, they might have switched a weekend around or something so that the mom could take her to the cheer competition. It might not have been her actual custodial time. So maybe that's what she meant. I don't know. So then at 11:26am Addie's stepmother calls 91 1, saying, quote, we are extremely concerned. We believe that something might have seriously happened. You know what I kept thinking about? Because, you know, Annabelle's in cheer. You have daughters? Annabelle and I travel to cheer competitions. I can't really. I. It's hard to fathom the panic that this dad was going through because he talks to the mother and the daughter the night before, and they're in Vegas and they're at a cheer competition, and there's clearly been issues with custody. It's probably been very volatile in the past. And then all of a sudden, he can't get a hold of the mother, and he can't get a hold of his daughter, and no one else can get a hold of them. And he's got cheer coaches calling him. He's probably got cheer moms calling him.
Shane
He's aware that no one can find him.
Emily Simpson
Right. And he is not there. He's not in Vegas. They live in Utah. So I can't imagine the panic that he has to endure trying to figure out what is going on.
Shane
And he might know a lot more about how the mom is and the dynamic and what she's capable.
Emily Simpson
I mean, maybe he's.
Shane
Maybe he's like, does he know that she carries guns?
Emily Simpson
I don't know. I. I don't know. So then on the afternoon of Feb. 15, hotel staff finally enter the room at 2:27pm Inside, they discover both Addie Smith, 11, and her mother, Tanya McGeehan, 34. They were both dead. Fire officials at the scene reportedly found a note on a door before the bodies were found. The details of the note have not been released. You know, I did read about the note, but I could never find anything that says what the contents of the note are. They call it a suicide note. I. I don't know what it says. And they. I also read that it was found on the door, but I'm assuming it's found on the inside of the door. There wasn't anything on the outside of the door, otherwise they would have known that they needed to enter. But, you know, we'll talk about this more, but first of all, it was gunshot wounds. She carried a gun with her, so she had a firearm. And my question is, did she bring a firearm?
Shane
What was the intent when she brought the firearm to Vegas?
Emily Simpson
I mean, they drove. They clearly drove. They didn't fly. Right. They drove from Utah to Vegas for a cheer competition. She brings a firearm with her. Was her intent in bringing the firearm? Because they're a mother and a daughter and they're traveling alone and they're staying in a hotel. And. And so she was scared, so she brought it as a safety precaution. And then she had some mental breakdown later. So then Addie's father keeps calling. At 2:39pm not yet aware of what authorities had discovered, Addie's father contacted dispatch Once again, this is what he says. I'm trying to file a missing persons report for my daughter. He told the operator at 3:13pm Addie's father and stepmother call again. Still searching for answers while we just need some information. There was a room check done around 3 o'. Clock. We really don't know where to start with all of this. Can we have them call us back immediately? This guy is freaking out. I mean, he's calling over, understandably so. At 4.05pm, Addie's father was finally connected with an officer. Desperate for clarity, he urged police to act quickly. I need someone there. I need someone there looking in that room. What's sad is this is at 4:05 and the bodies were discovered at 227. So at this point they already are aware that these, that the mother and daughter have been dead for an hour and a half. But he's panicking and saying that he, he knows like that something's severely wrong and someone needs to enter the room. He just doesn't.
Shane
Which makes me think he knows what she's capable of. I'm not putting any fault on him, but he knows what she's capable of. Maybe he knows she's violent. Maybe he, maybe she's thrown out threats like that before.
Emily Simpson
I need someone there. I need someone there looking in that room. The officer told him that law enforcement was already inside the room. Addie's father asked what officers had found. The officer explained that he was not at the scene and had only limited information. I, I'm telling you, I can't even fathom what this dad is going through. The multiple phone calls, the not getting any information, calling 911, repeatedly telling them to go in the room, knowing now that they are inside the room, but they're telling him that they have limited information. Like you have to be in complete panic mode.
Shane
Why wouldn't they release that information to him right away? What, what, what, what like barriers do they have to go through to and things to check off in order to tell the father that his children, his child is dead.
Emily Simpson
I, you know, I don't know. I don't know if they felt like I can respect.
Shane
There's some protocols and they're not just going to shout it out from the rooftops, but here is the guy that's saying I am the father and I'm the one looking for them.
Emily Simpson
I don't know. So then at 5:23pm nearly 7 hours after the family's first request for a welfare check, Addie's grandmother also contacted police. She described confusion among relatives as conflicting reports were circulating. Dispatch said officers would reach out once more details were available. So then again, this Is the problem you're calling and instead of you're not getting a, oh, we walked into the room and everything's fine. We found them. So they know there's a problem.
Shane
Right.
Emily Simpson
Because otherwise. Because they know they went into the room.
Shane
Right.
Emily Simpson
So the fact that they know they went into the room, but they're not saying, oh, yeah, we went to the room.
Shane
What else could it be?
Emily Simpson
Then you're in full blown panic mode because it's not good.
Shane
Right.
Emily Simpson
Right. Then around 8pm The Las Vegas Metroton Metropolitan Police Department held a press conference confirming that Addie and her mother Tanya had been found dead inside the hotel room. Investigators conclude that the mother had shot her daughter before turning the gun on herself. Authorities state that no motive has been publicly identified. I do know, I mean, this is, it's terrible. But she, she shot her daughter in the head and then she turned the gun on herself.
Shane
Correct.
Emily Simpson
And, you know, here's. Again, I know we talked about this a little bit, but just to bring it up again, I. What is hard for me to understand is if it was premeditated and she knew all along that she was going to do that and that's why she brought the gun with her, then why go through all the hoops of like, letting your daughter get excited about a cheer competition, Getting the uniform, getting the hair and makeup ready, packing, traveling to a cheer competition. Obviously they all met there on a Friday. She was there the first day. I don't know if they competed or not, but if they didn't, I'm sure they had some kind of team building activity. Sure. You know, I, I heard, I don't know if this is true, but I did read some articles that said that the mother had some words with some of the other cheer moms. You know, I don't know if that had any effect on, like, what was going on in her mind mentally. I mean, if you've ever watched dance moms or anything, like, some of those moms can be pretty volatile towards each other. I've never dealt with that on Annabelle's. The dads, the moms, the dads, the moms. I haven't dealt with that specifically. I feel like I'm very lucky. At the gym where Annabelle goes to, all the moms are pretty cool and everybody gets along really well. But there are a lot of cheer gems and dance places where the moms get so competitive.
Shane
Sure.
Emily Simpson
And they, and they end up fighting amongst themselves and talking about the other daughters and having, you know, that's why they make reality TV shows about Dance moms and cheer moms, because they're. They're a whole another breed of women. So I don't know if this mom had some words with some cheer moms. I don't know.
Shane
Well, my gu. My thought issue is probably su. On the verge of suicide. Like, she. She probably had those thoughts. Maybe she entertained them every once in a while and she swayed back and forth. The gun. Did she bring it for that reason? I don't know. I don't know if she always carries, but nonetheless, she did bring it. And I'm guessing something happened that pushed her over the edge to. To follow through on probably what she was always contemplating.
Emily Simpson
So you're saying she probably always visualizes her thought about. In her mind and then something just.
Shane
Well, yeah, like when someone commits suicide. And I'm not going to speak for everyone, but I can imagine that when someone commits suicide, it's a thought that rings in their head for a very long time, whether it be a month or six months or years. And then they pull the trigger. Right. It's not like they wake up one morning, have a bad day, and then you just can't handle it. So it's likely that she con. She lived on the edge of, you know, suicide. Close to the line of suicide. Right?
Emily Simpson
Yeah. The motive hasn't been released. I would assume maybe there was some type of motive or something written in the letter that she left behind. Maybe there's something that explains it. I don't know. But that'll be interesting because I feel like at some point we'll know maybe what her last.
Shane
Or if the dad speaks out, maybe he can kind of elaborate a little bit on.
Emily Simpson
Yeah, but that was it.
Shane
That's going to be a while, though, because it's going to run to the news.
Emily Simpson
It was a tragic, tragic story. And I'll tell you, just being so physically close to it, like, I don't know, maybe I walked past her on that Friday at the cheer competition. I mean, every day when we left, we drove.
Shane
Well, the team has a huge loss.
Emily Simpson
Yeah. Those girls.
Shane
And it's. It's gonna be etched in their minds forever because. Not because the cheer competition is important, but then they couldn't compete, Right. One, because emotionally they're all hurting, and then two, they miss a teammate. Right. So, I mean, it's. It's just. It affected that, which affects the whole weekend, which they're already emotional, so now they go home and they're always going to remember. It was like, you know what I mean? It wasn't just like, they went to school one day and heard that. Heard that. Unfortunately, there was a death of a student. It's like, this is. It tore a piece of everyone's heart away, right?
Emily Simpson
And those kids were right in the mix of them trying to find her and calling. I'm sure they were all standing around,
Shane
and then, as you said earlier, they're on this high, right? They're all excited, they're having fun, team building, you know, moments. And then, boom, this gets just torn away from them.
Emily Simpson
What's sad is they're always going to associate cheer and cheer competitions, which are supposed to be empowering, and, you know, girls working together and teamwork and camaraderie and all those things. And now for this poor team, you know, they're gonna associate it with a tragedy. And anyway, that was a deeply depressing story. But I. You know, and I always. I try not to. I don't know what was going through the mom's mind. I don't know. I mean, I can look at it as a mother and think, there's. There was no way. I always wish, why can't you just take yourself out? You know, it's like, even all these other cases we talked about, like Josh Powell or Chris Watts, you know, it's like, why. Why the kids? You know, like, just.
Shane
We don't, like, so we don't know what's going on is her head thinking that the dad's an evil person, and so my child can't be with him and I can't survive. And I don't know.
Emily Simpson
You know, there's one more thing I wanted to point out. Maybe you know this better, because I don't really understand guns or anything like that. I've never even shot a gun. I've. Have you? Like a real gun? I've never shot a real gun.
Shane
Yeah, I don't like to, but I had. It's like at a target at a shooting range. You know, I went with some friends.
Emily Simpson
I've never even been to a shooting range. But the hotel guest said that they did not hear anything. They didn't hear a shot fired. There were two shots, and no one heard anything. So is it that the hotel rooms are just that? No. Or do you think she.
Shane
Like, it's not like it rings throughout the building. It's not like. It's not like tv.
Emily Simpson
But even the person next door wouldn't hear anything.
Shane
Oh, there was someone next door.
Emily Simpson
Well, I don't know if there was, exactly. I'm assuming that probably because of this cheer competition, I'M assuming that most of the rooms are book. There's a lot of people that's true.

All right, let's move on to Britney Spears. So Britney Spears was taken into custody Wednesday night in Ventura County, California on suspicion of driving under the influence. This is according to reports by Variety. I also saw, I think TMZ was the one who broke the news. That's where I first saw it. So authorities with the California Highway Patrol reportedly stopped and handcuffed the singer around 9:30pm she was later booked into custody early Thursday morning at approximately 3am Records indicate she has since been released and is expected to appear in Court on May 4. I did read that she was taken to the hospital, but it wasn't because she was injured. It was because they Took her to the hospital to get her blood alcohol content, her BAC. And what is the legal limit in California? 0808, I read.
Shane
I. I like to follow the rule of.00.
Emily Simpson
You. Well, you've never had a drink of alcohol.
Shane
Never had a sip of alcohol, Never shake something Years.
Emily Simpson
Never had a sip of alcohol in
Shane
his entire life, despite everyone shoving it in front of me, tempting me to take it, trying to tempt me to take it.
Emily Simpson
Have I ever done that?
Shane
Probably. I've never had. I've never had heroin either, or cocaine.
Emily Simpson
Well, I haven't either.
Shane
Yeah, I see.
Emily Simpson
Yeah. All right. So I read she was taken to the hospital just for the blood work.
Shane
Yeah.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
And.
Shane
Which is what you should do. And I read over the breathalyzer.
Emily Simpson
Why? Because it's more. It's more accurate.
Shane
I. I think so. Yeah. Because what if you just, like, did some mouthwash, right? Or you took some Nyquil, like it's going to be. It could affect it. Plus, I think blood alcohol, like, if you do the blood test, it's a little bit more documented versus some officer, like in the field.
Emily Simpson
Like a defense attorney could challenge a breathalyzer or. No, it's just more than a doctor that did a B or a cop
Shane
could phony up a breathalyzer. I don't know how. Well, those document. Those are documented.
Emily Simpson
Yeah, I read. And I don't know if this is true. I did read that people. I always like how they say people close in her camp said Britney's camp and Britney's camp. Like, people close in her camp.
Shane
All those mooching off of her have
Emily Simpson
said that she claims that she blew it. Not blue. Her BAC was a 0.06.
Shane
What did those cops think when they pull her over?
Emily Simpson
You know, maybe they didn't recognize her until they get her license. They're like, ma', am, we need your registration. License. And then she hands it and they're like, britney Spears.
Shane
Why you have this fake id?
Emily Simpson
Yeah. I wonder what photos on her license,
Shane
though, from which era?
Emily Simpson
Yeah, like, is it a recent one? Like a recent.
Shane
Is she in a little schoolgirl outfit
Emily Simpson
or is it like a hit me baby one more time?
Shane
I don't know.
Emily Simpson
I don't know either. Annabelle saw my license the other day and she was like making fun of it because I don't know. You know what? My grandmother. I remember when I was growing up, I would look at my grandmother's license, and I kid you not, she was 80. And the. Her photo on her license was like when she was from, like, 35.
Shane
That's my mom.
Emily Simpson
Oh, yeah, Your mom's photo on her license?
Shane
No, but it's from a long time ago.
Emily Simpson
Really?
Shane
Yeah. Because they just renew it.
Emily Simpson
Yeah. They don't make you change.
Shane
I think recently she did go in the dmv. Anyway, that's. Besides. But I remember that, too, looking at her licensing, and that's from a long time ago.
Emily Simpson
Yeah, right.
Shane
Isn't that what you want? Do you want yours to stay from a long time?
Emily Simpson
I want it to be permanently young and youthful looking. Yes. Isn't Paris Hilton the one that showed up? Or was that Kim Kardashian that showed up to get their license picture? And they brought, like, a glam team and a ring light so they'd have, like, good lighting. I think it was Paris Hilton. I was like, that's a good idea because the lighting is always so bad. So I feel like next time I have to get a new photo for my license, I would like you to just bring a couple ring lights and set them up, and I'll get my hair and makeup done.
Shane
No, no.
Emily Simpson
All right. All right. So what are the next steps? So in the state of California, if you get pulled over and you get arrested for a DUI.
Shane
Yeah.
Emily Simpson
But you call the DMV within 10 days of your arrest, you can keep your license valid. So her team is likely contacting the DMV to set up a hearing date so that she has a valid license. Then the California Highway Patrol will submit their police report to the Ventura County Prosecutor's office. Once they get that report, the prosecutor's office will read it and determine whether there is enough evidence to charge her.
Shane
She shouldn't even be driving.
Emily Simpson
Yeah, I.
Shane
You know, she's got the phone.
Emily Simpson
I mean, she shouldn't be dancing on Instagram.
Shane
Yeah. She. She's not a good dancer.
Emily Simpson
No. Britney Spears is a phenomenal dancer. She. There is no one like Britney Spears. Sometimes. And when I'm on Instagram, sometimes I get into a Britney Spears algorithm where everything I just flip through is old Britney videos. And I tell you, it just takes me back to, like, 98, 99, early 2000s, when she was just the Queen of Pop. There is no one like Britney Spears. The talent off the charts, the charisma, the girl next door.
Shane
I don't know about that. Well, but she was entertainment, for sure.
Emily Simpson
Yeah.
Shane
She was popular. She was huge.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Huge.
Shane
Well, no doubt about that.
Emily Simpson
Huge.
Shane
Okay, so back to she shouldn't be driving.
Emily Simpson
Okay.
Shane
She should have a driver.
Emily Simpson
Yeah. Why doesn't she Have a driver?
Shane
I don't know. Because it same with. Same with. Who was Justin Timberlake? Remember a while ago he, like, left a party and he got it. Did he get a dui?
Emily Simpson
Yeah.
Shane
And it's like, why are you doing that? Have a driver? Because then if there's an accident, whether it's the driver's fault or not, he, you, you get out of the car and you get a new driver and you move on. They don't sue you, they don't involve you. You're totally clean.
Emily Simpson
Yeah. I don't know why more people don't have dry. I mean, I plan to have a driver.
Shane
Huh?
Emily Simpson
I would love to have a driver. I plan to have a driver.
Shane
You become the next Queen of Pop, you get a driver.
Emily Simpson
No, Heather Dubrow has a driver. I feel like I could have a driver too. I don't. I'm tired of driving. I'm 50 years old. I've been driving since I was 16. I don't.
Shane
You want a driver so you can look at Instagram while.
Emily Simpson
Yeah, I just want to sit in the back row and look at Instagram or make phone calls or read emails. I don't want to drive anymore. So I don't understand why these celebrities don't have a driver. I mean, they have the money. I don't get it. All right, anyway, that's Brittany.
Shane
Do we know what kind of car she was driving?
Emily Simpson
A black BMW. Because I saw photos of it being released from the impound lot. So, yes.
Shane
Kind of boring.
Emily Simpson
Yeah. What did you want? You wanted.
Shane
I don't know, something flashy.
Emily Simpson
Something flashy now. Sorry about that. It was a black BMW. Her agent or her manager released a statement and said this was an unfortunate and inexcusable incident. Britney will take the right steps, comply with the law, and we hope this marks the start of long overdue change in her life. She needs help and support during this difficult time.
Shane
Why? He pretty much admitted guilt then, didn't he?
Emily Simpson
Her boys will be spending time with her and her loved ones are putting a plan in place to set her up for success and well being. You know, the way this sounds to me is that they're saying, you know what? We're all hoping that this is like a rock bottom moment for Britney and maybe she'll.
Shane
Where. Where did she. Where was she coming from?
Emily Simpson
I. I didn't ask her. I don't.
Shane
Well, you. You read Instagram. Did she, like, go to like a. Was she like, at a bar and she left?
Emily Simpson
I don't know. She was Alone. I do know that there was no.
Shane
But again, was she at a bar alone, just drinking and then left like.
Emily Simpson
Well, you don't have to go to a bar to get a dui. Maybe she went to a restaurant. Maybe she drank before she left.
Shane
That's what I'm asking. I'm saying, like, well, I want to know what kind of entertainment she was doing, like, prior to the dui.
Emily Simpson
Why? Why is she entertaining people?
Shane
Well, if she's at a. No, not entertaining people. Like, what was she doing for herself that she got drunk and then got in a car?
Emily Simpson
She can't just go sit at a bar. There would be 8 billion photos of her sitting alone at a bar.
Shane
I know. That's what I'm wondering. What was she doing?
Emily Simpson
I think she was drinking at home and then she drove somewhere.
Shane
Where was she going?
Emily Simpson
I don't know.
Shane
To a bar?
Emily Simpson
I don't know. All right, we will keep you informed.
Shane
May 4th is her hearing.
Emily Simpson
Yes, May 4th. And we will keep you up to date on any information we find out about May 4th.

All right, Sean Diddy Combs lands early prison release. As he fights to appeal his prison sentence. This was a page 6 article. According to records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Diddy's release date has been moved up to April 25, 2028. His previous release date had been listed as June 4th of 2028. Oh, he just got like. It got moved up a couple months. The updated timeline follows Diddy's acceptance into a rehabilitation initiative. What is he rehabilitating from? Drugs and sex and baby oil?
Shane
Changing his name all the time?
Emily Simpson
Oh, yes. His newest name is.
Shane
His newest name is 2460124.
Emily Simpson
Is that what it is?
Shane
That was John Faljan from Les Biz.
Emily Simpson
Oh, all right. So I guess he's agreed to go to some type of rehabilitation initiative in November, and then that participation is what got him a few months shaved off of his sentence. So the participation in this federal residential drug abuse program can sometimes result in reduced prison time. So that's.
Shane
Can you imagine when he got the news, like, hey, good news. Your prison date moved up. I was like, oh, yeah.
Emily Simpson
When he's like, packing, you know, he
Shane
got four weeks off. He's like, oh, I get out in four weeks. No, we just took four weeks off.
Emily Simpson
Shave four weeks off. His projected release date has changed before. Shortly after he was sentenced, he saw his release date pushed back from May 8th of. Of 2028 to June 4th of 2028. Reports at the time indicated that the adjustment came after officials disciplined him for consuming homemade alcohol.
Shane
Just bouncing around.
Emily Simpson
He's making homemade. Al, how do you make homemade alcohol?
Shane
It's prison made alcohol. Doesn't live in a home.
Emily Simpson
Right. It's prison made alcohol. You're right. It's jail made. Yeah, right. What are they using? Just what nyquil. Do they have nyquil in prison?
Shane
I don't know.
Emily Simpson
Drugs? I don't know.
Shane
I don't know. See, you ask me questions.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
I don't.
Shane
About prison. I don't know. I ask you questions about Britney and her drinking. You don't know.
Emily Simpson
Well, I mean, I feel like if Britney Spears ever listens to this podcast, I would like to let her know that I feel like I could Be her friend. And if she needs someone to support her and be there for her, I feel like I could be that person. So if she would like to reach out to me, I am open. I'm here with open arms and I am happy to be your friend.
Shane
What about Diddy?
Emily Simpson
No, no, no Diddy. I, the. The Queen of Pop can call me. I feel like she needs, like, an Emily in her life. Like, I'm a good, loyal friend. I feel like I could point her in the right direction. You know, we could do like a.
Shane
You could fix her.
Emily Simpson
We could do like an Instagram intervention. I'd be like, we don't pull your pants up. Nobody needs to see your thong.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Let's.
Emily Simpson
Let me take you to the salon. Let's get your hair extensions fixed.
Shane
That doesn't rehabilitate people. Hair extensions.
Emily Simpson
Well, that's a good start, though. A little. Some veneers, some good hair extensions.
Shane
A makeover.
Emily Simpson
A makeover. And she needs to pull her pants up.
Shane
They fall or something.
Emily Simpson
They're always like, so super low. I'm like, girlfriend, pull your pants up. But there's a lot of people on Instagram because I get into this algorithm too, that don't even think that's Britney, that it's a clone. So we won't even go there right now. But that's another. That's a whole nother. That's a whole nother podcast. Anyway, back to Diddy. Soon afterwards, CBS News reported another infraction tied to a three way phone call, which is not permitted in federal prison. He. He.
Shane
Can you do two way phone calls? You just can't do three way.
Emily Simpson
Combs reportedly said that he did not realize that third party or three way calls are not authorized. His. I didn't know, man. His representative.
Shane
I was drunk on his homemade alcohol. I didn't know.
Emily Simpson
Right, Yeah, I wasn't thinking clearly.
Shane
Yeah.
Emily Simpson
The new release date comes as Combs continues to challenge his four year sentence. His legal team filed an appeal in December seeking his immediate release and asking for either a reversal of the conviction or a shorter sentence. Prosecutors have pushed back on the appeal in February, urging that the court reject the request. You know, he's got so many civil suits against him. I mean, once he gets out of jail, he's just gonna be like, they're just like coming at him like boomerangs. He's got like a hundred different civil suits against him or something, so.
Shane
Wow.
Emily Simpson
I mean, good luck with all of that. All right, let's do one more update. This is Brian Coburger. So we're gonna head. We were in Nevada, then we went to California with Britney Spears and now we are taking a trip back to Idaho.
Shane
Well, not back to Idaho.
Emily Simpson
Over to Idaho. Over to Idaho. So just recently there have been some grizzly leaked photos that show blood soaked rooms of the Idaho college students that were butchered by Brian Coburger at the end of January. Thousands of previously unreleased crime scene photographs connected to the Idaho murders briefly appeared online after they were published by the Idaho State Police. The images, nearly 3,000 in total, were quickly removed from the agency's website, but not before some outlets, including the Daily Mail, obtain copies of these.
Shane
How did they were leaked? Where were they posted?
Emily Simpson
No, this was on the police website. Okay.
Shane
They were posted on a website. So they were on the police website.
Emily Simpson
Well, I, what I think happened was after he was convicted and, and sentenced probably opens up, the file opens up and probably someone just uploaded the entire file to the website without thinking that
Shane
there has to be something without, without screening what should and shouldn't be posted.
Emily Simpson
Right. The images show heavy blood staining across numerous surfaces throughout the bedrooms, including doors, walls, furniture, mattresses, bedding and floors. Additional graphic photographs captured personal items belonging to the victims, including cell phones, laptops, shoes and clothing. These were left inside the ransacked bedrooms where the four students were killed. In one photo, what appeared to be smeared bloody fingerprints could be seen on a white nightstand, while another image showed blood running down a wall. It is unclear why the new images were uploaded then removed from the department's website. I assume the family probably immediately called when they started seeing those photographs circulating out there and, and then that's why they were removed. You know, again, I just have to say, I just have Bryan Coburger and the Idaho murders. Every once in a while I'll lay in bed at night and there are like a couple things I think about. Again, I always go back to because now that these images are out there and you can look at them and you can see how the rooms are ransacked and how much blood is everywhere. The fact that there were other roommates in this house that did not hear anything is mind boggling to me.
Shane
Oh, it only furthers that I'm just like.
Emily Simpson
Because I thought, okay, well maybe they heard nothing because he was in stealth mode and he just quickly went to each victim and like, and like overpowered them very quickly. And they didn't even know what hit them. And that's why there wasn't any fighting back. But then we learned later, you just somehow.
Shane
Yeah, but then you also worried about that you were curious about that gunshot, how, like, people in Vegas, the hotel, couldn't hear the gunshot. I know, and I think. I mean, have you ever heard someone fire a gun next to you or murder? I mean, I'm just saying, like. Like maybe you're assuming things are louder than they are. And I. I don't have an answer. I'm just kind of playing devil's out here.
Emily Simpson
I don't know. I just feel like if I was at home and I had lots of roommates, and there is a. A crime scene in the whole upstairs above me, that it shows a house being ransacked and four people were murdered and there's blood everywhere. That I didn't hear any of that just seems.
Shane
Well, I think it goes back.
Emily Simpson
I'm not blaming.
Shane
I know.
Emily Simpson
I. I know they had nothing to
Shane
do, but it goes back to with. We also think they were, like, intoxicated, so they were probably passed out or they're deep sleep. I mean, I lived in. In a house with almost 14 other guys, I think.
Emily Simpson
14?
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Where.
Emily Simpson
What the heck are you talking about?
Shane
In college, I.
Emily Simpson
Every time we do a podcast, I. We've been married for 17 years. Let me just remind everyone of that. It's been 17 years, and every time we record a podcast, some new bit of information about this man comes up.
Shane
Maybe you ought to. Maybe you ought to get to know me a little bit better.
Emily Simpson
Guess so. I have never hurt 14 other guys.
Shane
There was like seven of, let's see, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 of us upstairs, and then there was about seven downstairs. So whatever. 13 or something like that.
Emily Simpson
That's crazy. And this is in Utah.
Shane
And I don't remember ever once waking up in the middle of the night because they were loud. And they're. I'm sure they were loud from time to time.
Emily Simpson
Really?
Shane
Yeah. I just go in my room, close the door, and go to sleep. I don't know.
Emily Simpson
I don't. Well, no, but I don't know.
Shane
I. I know I'm. I. I'm not trying to be funny. I'm really just saying, like, now I think about it.
Emily Simpson
Yeah.
Shane
Like, I don't know. You just go to sleep and especially if you're intoxicated, you just pass out and that's it.
Emily Simpson
I don't know. Then my other point is, after the autopsy reports came out, we did know that Zanna threw. Threw a huge. Like she was. She fought. Yeah, Fought him hard. Fought him and she. We have to give this girl credit for her Bravery and just fighting back as hard as possible. Because I think they believe that that was the reason the nice knife sheath was left behind.
Shane
Right.
Emily Simpson
Because of the struggle with him. And that is how they found him, because of the DNA that was left on that little tiny button on the knife sheet. Yeah.
Shane
So all her fighting didn't go to waste. It actually solved the crime.
Emily Simpson
And then my last point is, and this still bugs me to this day, Idaho has the death penalty. And the fact that the prosecution allowed him to plead out and take life without parole is just.
Shane
Well, didn't we talk about the death penalty last time? How maybe, like, Idaho didn't really prosecute or. Or press us. They didn't pursue the death penalty in. In many cases ever. Like, it's not really a death penalty state, even though it's legal. Right. So maybe the prosecutors aren't really, like, gung ho about it. Maybe it's not really enforced very much. So they all know, like, it's not really a likelihood. So they just plea. They come to some plea agreement.
Emily Simpson
I don't know. I just know that if anyone deserves the.
Shane
Well, there's lots of people that deserve it. And he's one of them.
Emily Simpson
He's one of them. That's for sure. So we talked about the Las Vegas cheer mom, which was tragic, and then we gave you guys some updates. This is Chelsea Handler from Dear Chelsea after the Big Game. Like most people, I kept thinking about the commercials, and there was one that stayed with me. It was from the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate. And it wasn't loud or flashy. It showed a Jewish kid being targeted at school and another student who chose not to ignore it. As someone who was Jewish, that moment felt very real to me. Not dramatic, just familiar. And what struck me was how clearly it showed that hate doesn't always announce itself, but the impact is still huge. If you saw the Blue Square spot during the Big Game, it's worth thinking about. And if you want to show support, sharing the Blue square is one small way to do that.
