Hey there, folks. It is Wednesday, February 25th and we are getting a new look at some court documents in the case of singer David, who's been named a suspect in the case of of a dead 14 year old girl who was found in the trunk of his Tesla. Well, these new court documents make clear that there is a grand jury investigation and he is in fact the target of that investigation. With that, welcome to this episode of Amy and tj. This is such a slow moving story. Her body was discovered Last September, Robes, here we are. February. Haven't heard a whole lot. We're learning more, I guess on the record now than it seems we've learned in months.
Amy Roebuck
Yes, we have been waiting for months. I, I think it's fair to say at one point we were checking daily, but certainly we check weekly to see about any updates, any real information surrounding this case. And finally, finally, the only reason why we're getting some information is because apparently his father doesn't want to cooperate with the investigation. And so because of that, court filings had to be made. And now we are getting a clearer picture of what's actually happening behind the scenes. Grand juries convene in secrecy and that is why we haven't had really any, any verifiable information coming out about this case until now.
TJ Holmes
These documents say that yes, this grand jury is meeting and they are being asked to decide whether or not charges should be coming against singer David. A reminder, David, it's spelled D4V D. This is a thing a lot of artists are doing now. It's an online thing, it's a tick tock, social media type thing but they replace letters, numbers. But David is his name. David Burke. Anthony Burke is his real name. Young, young, 20 years old, up and coming artist and ropes. He was on tour last September when her body was discovered. This was a very odd time quite frankly because he didn't immediately stop work and stop touring when word came that a dead teenager was found in his trunk.
Amy Roebuck
Yes, when word came that the Tesla was registered to him and that he was on tour and a badly decom exposed body of a young girl was in his Tesla, we thought oh wow, this case is going to explode within days. But he kept touring, he kept singing and it wasn't until about a week later when police identified who the body belonged to. 14 year old Celeste Rivas Fernandez, who he has now been romantically linked to. Then and only then did he cancel that show for that evening. And then eventually, and it took him a couple days before he canceled the remainder of his US tour and eventually his European tour. But this was his big breakout tour. This was his up and coming I'm about to be a massive international success tour when this all happened.
TJ Holmes
And so as we want to tell you now, robes that you just laid out, we go from that to very little information trickling out. This young lady's body was released to her family. They had a funeral for her, but still we couldn't get. Is there an official cause of death? You remember?
Amy Roebuck
They wouldn't Even say homicide.
TJ Holmes
They wouldn't even say at the time. That's right. And the medical examiner out there was pissed because what they sealed and wouldn't let him release any information.
Amy Roebuck
So I believe from what we have gathered, there is a cause of death. They do have one. The medical examiner came to a conclusion, however. Yes, he has been ordered not to release any of the findings from the autopsy. His assessment as a medical examiner, all of that has been sealed. And he actually spoke out against the Lada saying, you know what, yes, fine, I'll abide by this order. But it doesn't change the outcome in these cases. So he was frustrated that he was probably getting hounded hourly by reporters and he was being told. Ordered by the court to not release any information. So he did publicly express his displeasure in that.
TJ Holmes
All right, and I should have said this, I apologize, I should have said this at the absolute very top. But just want to give you a heads up. We're going to share some this information, this court filing now and it is some pretty disturbing stuff. I just want to give you a heads up. We will read directly from this court filing. And again, this was Robes, his parents, David's parents are in the Houston area and authorities were trying to get them to come to LA for this grand jury testimony. They were pushing, they were fighting it and they have lawyers who were saying, no, it's unlawful. So that was the back and forth. So we're given that context. This now was a part of that court filing explaining why they wanted the parents to come because their son was, as they put it in here, Robes, the target of the investigation. We'll share the details now. And again, just a heads up, some of this stuff is disturbing.
Amy Roebuck
Yes. So the court filing reads like this, that there is now pending in the Superior Court of the county of Los Angeles the above entitled grand jury investigation by the state of California against target David Burke, wherein target may be involved in having committed the following criminal offenses against the laws of the state of California, to wit, one count of murder. It is alleged in this case that the target, and when we say target, they're referring to David may be involved in the death of 14 year old victim Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who may have been the victim of foul play. Her severely decomposed dismembered body was found in the front truck of Target's Tesla on September 8, 2025.
TJ Holmes
Is that. Yes, it is. But we. They named him. I can't remember. I don't think there was a big statement or a big reveal. Certainly not A press conference when it became known he was a suspect. Do you remember where we got that information from? L. A?
Amy Roebuck
I remember it happened in November, and there was an acknowledgment from several police sources to reputable media outlets that David Anthony Burke was the suspect in. In the death investigation of Celeste Hernandez. And so it wasn't an official announcement.
TJ Holmes
There we go.
Amy Roebuck
But there were several sources where every media outlet felt comfortable reporting that as fact.
TJ Holmes
And that's important to note because it makes what you just read here from the court filing that much more important. This is on the record definitive now, telling us for the first time since last September, since this young lady's body was found on the record, definitive singer, David, is the guy that they believe, at least authorities believe, kill this girl?
Amy Roebuck
Yes, and that is significant. And this is the first time we have absolute, irrefutable confirmation that that is, in fact the case.
TJ Holmes
Oh, and we don't. We should say. I mean, Rose, what was the last time we heard a peep from him? Not social media, anything, but there hasn't even been a sighting of some kind to where anybody has any idea where he is.
Amy Roebuck
Can you imagine how many people. I'm sure there is a tremendous amount of money, obviously, there's a tremendous amount of interest on anyone who can capture a photo of him. And now maybe after this release of documents, his parents as well, they know he lives in the Houston area, or at least his family did, and that is where the Tesla was registered to this. This town in Texas. So everyone has assumed and presumed he has been living with his parents in Texas. But I haven't seen a photo or any actual physical confirmation that that's the case.
TJ Holmes
And we haven't heard anything from him, certainly, or his camp. There was something very, very early on, but it wasn't much of anything from somebody attached to him. But it was reported not weeks ago, maybe a couple months ago. He was not cooperating with the investigation.
Amy Roebuck
Correct. And the only other information we got was that one of his best friends had also actually been arrested because he, too, was refusing to testify before the grand jury. And of course, that is not allowed. If you are subpoenaed, if you are compelled to testify in front of the grand jury, they're gonna make sure you do. And if you refuse, they will come find you and arrest you. So we. That's. I believe the last time we even reported or updated this case was that one of his good friends had been arrested for. Not for failing to appear in front
TJ Holmes
of the grand jury, but Folks, stay here. We will share next. And again, I just want to give you the heads up in the warning. Some of this stuff is a little gruesome to hear, but we will share again the new details we're also getting from this filing about the Tesla. When it was reported abandoned, when police came and checked it out, when they came to the impound lot, and what they found, we are hearing for the first time exactly what was in their Tesla.

Welcome back everyone as we discuss this major new development where officially now we are hearing, we are seeing in court documents that David Anthony Burke, singer David, is officially the target of a grand jury investigation looking into the death into the murder of 14 year old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. You know, we had been referring to her as a 15 year old initially. Her birthday was the day before her body was found. But when you hear these details that we're about to read and look, it has been reported but it has not been on the record. These details are now on the record from police about what they found. But clearly she had been gone for quite some time and so it's fair to now say she was 14 years old at the time of her death. That is so young. That is, I know it's sad at any point, but just 14, think about that.
TJ Holmes
You know, and so that we talked about this before as well. What, what the difference is between a 14 and a 15 year old almost.
Amy Roebuck
It's a big deal. And she went missing when she was just 13.
TJ Holmes
She had been missing for at least a year and several times over the past year and a half had been reported missing. So she again some trouble in this young lady's life and for it to end in the trunk of a Tesla makes it all more the more tragic. So we're getting some details here, more details about the discovery of her body in that Tesla. So this court filing goes on to say that the police received a phone call from the manager of the Hollywood area official police garage. The manager stated a black Tesla Model X had been Impounded as an abandoned vehicle by the department of transportation on September 5, 2025. Now, the manager told police there was a strong smell of decay coming from the vehicle which was attracting flies. Now, robes. We understood generally that detail about this case, but this now goes much, much further than that.
Amy Roebuck
Yes, because all the information we were getting was from reports. This is the actual report. And it goes on to say. And again, this is pretty graphic. LAPD detectives responded to the Hollywood tow to investigate. Detectives approached the vehicle which was parked on the upper deck of the impound lot and immediately noticed a smell of decaying biological material consistent with a decomposing corpse coming from the front storage compartment of the vehicle.
TJ Holmes
You can only imagine, bro, this was September. It's, it's Southern California, it's warm. They think the body had been in there for a while, so who knows how long. You can just. Again, it was reported early on about the, the, the smell and the odor was noticed pretty simply, pretty quickly.
Amy Roebuck
Yes, but this lay unmistakable way, unfortunately, just in our careers. Unfortunately, I have on two different occasions. It is a smell you never forget and it is. There's no other smell like it. I'm sure the detectives knew exactly what they were about to find. However, this was even more gruesome when you hear the details because detectives. Yes. Then had to obtain a search warrant for the vehicle. And when the front storage compartment was opened, detectives observed. Observed a black cadaver bag covered with insects and a strong odor of decay. Utilizing black latex gloves, detectives partially unzipped the bag and observed a decomposed head and torso. Investigators and criminalists from the Los Angeles county department of the medical examiner responded then to the tow yard to process the decomposed body. Upon removing the cadaver bag from the front storage compartment, it was discovered the arms and legs had been severed from the body. A second second black bag was discovered underneath the cadaver bag. Upon opening the second bag, the dismembered body parts were discovered.
TJ Holmes
She's 14. Troubled. That is just an awful way to hear of the end of the life of a 14 year old child. Robes. The details are horrific. We knew decomposing, dismembered. I think those things had been out
Amy Roebuck
there, but this is confirmation.
TJ Holmes
But Robe, this is, I mean we, we say it all the time. We cover a lot of stories. We watch a lot of true crime stories and the, the ones having to do with dismemberment of a body. We just had a trial. We watched that had. A guy was accused of chopping up his wife's body. When you add that element, it's just. There's a. It's hard to get your head around somebody doing that or being capable of doing that. And that's why, I guess, Rope. Some of these stories are so fascinating. We just don't understand.
Amy Roebuck
You can't imagine someone mentally being able to. To do that, especially at that young of an age, to another child. It's just. It's hard to get your head around that. Anybody could be capable of it, but certainly this rising young, attractive pop star who had his whole future ahead of him. It. It's just so disturbing. And I also just think of those poor investigators, and I know that they're trained for this and they had to prepare themselves for what they would find with the smell they had in front of them. But still, to see that, even to read it, it's hard to process. I cannot imagine seeing it and having to have that stay with you because it would never leave you. It's just awful to think about. But yes, police are looking for answers, and so they want to speak specifically, from what I've read to David's father, they say that his testimony is, quote, material and, and necessary to the investigation. And they, they pointed out that David and his father have a very close relationship. Somehow. That was a big part of this. That he knows him probably like no
TJ Holmes
one else, I thought was interesting as well. They want to fly him out. They offered two round trip plane tickets, transportation from the airport to the hotel to the. And everything. They said, we're taking care of everything. And they're still getting pushback. And as far, at least right now, there's no indication that he has agreed and that he will be testifying, that the parents will be testifying. But movement, even, even though we weren't aware of it, there was some movement happening behind the scenes on this case.
Amy Roebuck
It was. Yes, it was happening behind the scenes. And they, they've been trying. This is now being made public. The local Houston station got their hands on these court documents, but they have been requesting David's father and his parents to testify starting February 3rd. They're saying the testimony shouldn't last any more than three days. So if it's now February 25th. Yeah. This back and forth or them trying to negotiate, getting them to this grand jury in California from Texas has been going on now for around two weeks, it appears. And so we will continue to follow where this case goes. And eventually I would believe that his parents would have to figure it out. They'll have to negotiate it on whatever terms both can. Both parties can agree to. But this case is moving forward and it looks like we will be getting some movement on this case at least in the weeks to come. And we will certainly be following it for you. So we thank you as always, for listening to us, everyone. I'm Amy Roebuck alongside TJ Holmes. We'll talk to you soon.

This episode, hosted by Amy Robach and TJ Holmes, delves into the major legal and investigative developments surrounding the case of singer D4vd (real name David Anthony Burke), who has officially been named the target of a grand jury investigation into the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. With exclusive court documents now public, Amy and TJ provide a detailed, sensitive, and sometimes graphic discussion about what is currently known, the timeline of events, and what these new disclosures mean for the case going forward.
Grand Jury Investigation:
New court documents confirm a grand jury is convening in Los Angeles to determine if D4vd will be charged with the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. This is the first official, on-the-record confirmation from authorities (02:06–03:29, 08:27–08:58).
Context:
Celeste’s body was discovered in the trunk of D4vd’s Tesla in September 2025. Slow-moving proceedings and sealed information meant that for months, crucial details remained out of public view.
“Finally, the only reason why we're getting some information is because apparently his father doesn't want to cooperate with the investigation... and now we are getting a clearer picture...”
— Amy Robach (02:48)
Timeline:
D4vd’s Whereabouts:
The hosts discuss that D4vd’s location is currently unknown; no recent sightings, and reports indicate he is not cooperating with police (09:09–09:59).
“Can you imagine how many people... there’s a tremendous amount of interest on anyone who can capture a photo of him.”
— Amy Robach (09:09)
Official Allegations:
Court filings state D4vd (David Anthony Burke) “may be involved in having committed... one count of murder… in the death of 14-year-old victim Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who may have been the victim of foul play. Her severely decomposed, dismembered body was found in the front trunk of Target’s Tesla…” (07:03).
Discovery of the Body:
“Detectives observed a black cadaver bag covered with insects and a strong odor of decay... the arms and legs had been severed from the body. A second black bag... upon opening... the dismembered body parts were discovered.”
— Amy Robach (16:48)
“We watch a lot of true crime stories... the ones having to do with dismemberment... it’s hard to get your head around somebody doing that.”
— TJ Holmes (18:11)
Background:
Celeste was only 14 at the time of her death (her birthday was the day before her body was found). She had a history of going missing and had been reported missing several times since age 13 (15:07–15:11).
Personal Impact:
The hosts express emotional reactions reflecting the tragedy of her young life and brutal death.
“It is so young. That is... sad at any point, but just 14, think about that.”
— Amy Robach (15:01)
Grand Jury Testimony:
The current push to have D4vd’s parents, especially his father, testify before the grand jury is what forced these developments into public record.
“They say that his testimony is, quote, material and necessary to the investigation. And they pointed out that David and his father have a very close relationship.”
— Amy Robach (19:46)
On the slow pace of the case:
“This is such a slow-moving story... her body was discovered last September, Robes, here we are, February. Haven’t heard a whole lot.”
— TJ Holmes (02:06)
On the grisly discovery:
“It is a smell you never forget and it is... there’s no other smell like it...”
— Amy Robach (16:48)
On D4vd’s lack of response:
“We haven’t heard anything from him, certainly, or his camp... he was not cooperating with the investigation.”
— TJ Holmes (09:42)
On the parents’ resistance to testify:
“They offered two round-trip plane tickets, transportation from the airport... we're taking care of everything. And they're still getting pushback.”
— TJ Holmes (19:46)
On the tragedy:
“She’s 14. Troubled. That is just an awful way to hear of the end of the life of a 14-year-old child.”
— TJ Holmes (17:55)
This episode provides a comprehensive, sensitive, and revealing update on the status of the investigation into D4vd and the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, highlighting the gravity of the crime, the procedural hurdles, and the emotional toll on all involved. Listeners leave with a clear understanding of the facts, the key players, and the direction the case is now taking.
