Give me a leader that stands on something, that won't waver, that doesn't have double standards. Watch what happens. I'm going to ask you a question. Do you want to be your team? Do you want to be your team's mentor? Yes or no? I mean, do you want your team to look up to you and go, hey, I want to be like them? Okay, let's ask some common sense questions really quick. If you're a leader, number one, does your team, in most cases, are they married? Do they got a boyfriend, do they got a girlfriend? Are they in a relationship with someone? Or will they be at some point, yes or no? Okay, how do they know what a badass marriage looks like? Show them. Show them. No one shows them. No one shows them anymore. People don't show them in companies anymore. Listen, my wife's right here. The way that I treat her, the way that I talk about her, how I include her and everything, the way that I build her up, the way that I work through everything, I need them to see that. I need my team to see that. Why? Because people don't have business problems. They got personal problems. And if I can teach my team how to have badass personal home lives, dude, they're going to kill it for me in business. By the way, let me give you a little secret. And I'm going to take your plate, your mind to a place that they don't talk about in the world anymore because school doesn't teach this shit. Either you're your team's mentor, you're their leader, you're their coach, or you're their boss. If your people see you as their boss, I assure you they will leave someday. Do you guys want to build a business and keep starting over with new employees all the time? Do you want to train up people for four or five years and then one or two things happen. Number one, someone pays them more money and they go work for them. Or number two, they say, well, man, I've been working for you for five years. You showed me everything that we do in this company. I'm just gonna start my own deal. How many times you seen that? You know what, I'll tell you. I got a big ass team, I got a huge team. And people ask my team, they've been with me for five years now. They're on podcasts all the time. I told them one day, I said, you guys are all going to be really influential because leaders are. Look, leadership is all about influence. How influential are you? Hey, listen, I don't care how smart you can read a financial. I don't care what kind of deal you can make with your vendors. I don't care how hard of a worker are you. Do I want to be you? Ask yourself, does my team want to be me? I'm going to tell you this. If you can make your team want to be you, they'll never leave. And you know why? And by the way, I'm going to give you some things. Not because you're the sh. T. Because you care about them more than anyone's ever cared about them in their damn life. You know what? I know. I know this. Look to your left. Look to your right. Nobody cares about no one. No one ever cared about me in my whole life. Nobody. Look, I worked for 21 years for a company, and, you know, I was the greatest employee ever. I made that company a lot of money. But I'm going to tell you this. They never knew Jackie's name. They never knew my kid's name. They didn't know what our family goals were. They weren't. They had no. They never even. They never even mentioned the word leader in our company. It was always gross revenue, volume and profits. That's all we talked about. And so what happened? I come home exhausted every freaking night. I ended up living. I just want you to understand this. I ended up living a life at home, just trying to recover, to go back to work tomorrow. So I'm not present at home. My wife doesn't support where I work because she doesn't like me. Because. Because I'm not even present when I'm home. I'm just trying to recover. And honestly, everything's about work. People don't want to work. People want to have purpose. Now, how could I take what you guys do in the painting industry? And how can we tie and create purpose around it? I started this conversation today, and I said, what's wrong with this industry? I want to know right now what is wrong with the painting industry? What is it? What's wrong with it? Number one, they don't keep their word. Okay, do they have to keep your word in your company? Yes or no? Okay. Do they have to or should they want to? They want to. No, no, no, they don't. If you make them feel like they have to, they don't want to do it. They should Want to. They're going to take your money. It's going to take too long. You have a crappy experience and we're sick of it. And that's why we're the best. Does your team talk like this when someone requests some information? No, because this isn't how you talk to your team. And by the way, my sales meetings don't go like when someone says they need to think about it. You say this. I have testimony saying, hey, you, last week you did a job with Jane, right? Her and her husband, it was 85,000. We did this work. Tell us what they said when it was done. Stand up and tell everybody what Jane said to you. She said, we've never had someone treat us this good. You guys left our house cleaner than it was when we had you do the job. Our house was dirtier when you guys came in. That's how good they cleaned up. They finished before on the job and they did a better job than we could ever imagine. We will recommend you for the rest of our life. That's what they said. That's what we do. That's the way we live. Who's the one in here setting the tone for your company? Listen to me. If you think you're a painter, if you think you're a business owner, you're not. You're A damn leader. And by the way, you need to get, you need to find out what's wrong in your industry. If you want to win, you got to figure out every hole. There's two rules in business. Rule number one, don't ever let anyone else know your business better than you. Ever. Ever. The team that has the best people wins. It ain't talent that wins. It's freaking commitment. It's purpose. It's hearts on the line. It's belief. And it's people that stand for something in a company because there's a leader in there. You're the person that doesn't care. You're the person that literally wants to whine, complain, cry. You're just a little baby. No one wants to be you. Your company's going to go out of business. You run around, you run lip service to everyone. You're not real. Okay? I was this person. One day, I'm going to be honest with you. I was this guy. You have to know when I'm talking about that guy, what that guy is. Because you have to be that guy. I was fat. I had a crappy marriage. By the way, when I say crappy, I want you to understand the enemy of great is good. Do you guys want a great marriage or a good one? Do you want a great business or a good one? Do you want to be in great shape or good shape? Do you want to have a great attitude or a good attitude? Great. Great. Great. I want to be great. By the way, can I tell you guys Something everyone doesn't have to have any experience in your industry. They just have to believe in you. You know what? We went and hired. We hired people that had a heart. That's all we did. Me and Jackie hired people by the heart because teaching this skill is easy. And so, like, you guys got to listen when I say this to you. You can't be a baby. You can't be a little pansy. And by the way, I'm a Christian, so I'm going to say something like, sometimes I'll run off and I'll go on a cussing spree. But by the way, I wear my heart right here on my sleeve. So guess what? You know, my mouth may be dirty, but my heart's good. Okay? Like some people, their mouths clean all the time, but their hearts dark. I watch people's hearts and I can tell when you don't have the right intentions for me, by the way, when you want to change your business and change your financial statements, number one, your intentions will change. Some of your intentions are in here. I need to make more money on my financials. No, you don't. You need to invest more in your people. And your people can't change until you change. They physically don't understand what that means. Hey, I need you to change. I need you to be this way. I need you to act like this, but you can't act like that. I don't even know what that means. And by the way, listen, every single one of you, my goal, this is my goal, because I know every one of you has like 25 million new levels inside of you, is to stir you up, is to tactically give you some things to go back and change everything. But is honestly to have every one of you go back and apologize to your entire companies and say, and some of you going, why would I do that? Were you better than you are right now? Yes or no? Can you be better? Yes or no? So you're going to go back and you're going to say, hey, listen, let's act like you guys are my team. I'm going to say, hey, listen, I want to talk to you guys. Number one, I'm sorry about what? I'm sorry. You guys are all great. You guys are the greatest team. You guys are awesome. I love every single one of you. You guys deserve the best leader on the planet. That's what you guys deserve. I ain't even playing, and I haven't been that. This weekend, I went to an event and had a guy say some things to me. That really made me question myself as a leader. You know, I always thought, because I didn't have a good leader growing up, I always thought success was business. We got to make money. We got to make money. You know what? And I realized I hadn't invested enough in all of you. And I probably hadn't done that because I hadn't invested enough in me. And this weekend, I decided to be coachable. I decided to listen. I decided to put on a different set of lenses and see things maybe differently. And I realized that an individual can be beat, but a team can be beat. And my team is my greatest asset. And all you guys, you're not just my team, you're my family. And I ain't been giving you my best. Guys, listen to me. My best crazy. I know it is. But you haven't been getting that. You haven't been getting it. If you've been getting it, I'd have blown your head off, but you hadn't been getting it. So I'm gonna tell all of you, number one, I'm making a decision. But I want to tell you first, I apologize. From this day forward, from today forward, I'm sorry for everything in the past, you're going to see a new man. I'm going to be a better husband. I'm going to be a better daddy. I'm going to be a better leader. We're going to make more money. I'm going to be a better coach to you. I know you guys don't want a boss. You don't want me to boss you around. You guys want to coach. Everybody wants a coach. Everybody wants to be inspired. And I know that that's my job and I haven't been doing it. But from this day forward, you guys are going to get a new leader. Will you guys forgive me? Yes or no? What do you think they're going to say? Okay, now you ready? Phase two, super important guys. There's new levels in you. Would you agree what just happened? Number one, I made you feel and understand that me as a leader, I created vulnerability. That makes you love me more. Okay, could you imagine some of you in here? You come back from this event, you're like, we're gonna kill them. We're going to kill them. My guys are going to be the best, or they're not going to work here. There's a new standard in our company. From now on, you give me your best, or you're out of here. There's 8 billion people in this world. I want the best. Could you imagine going back to the office and they're like, dude, what is. This isn't how he is. This isn't how he is. You weren't like this before you went to that thing. We don't even know what you heard, and you're coming in here yelling at us like we did something wrong. Dude, we know all the sh. T that you did wrong. Whoa. Okay. If we want to ask them to change, who has to change? We do. So I come in first and I say, hey, I'm sorry. You guys deserve the best. You guys do. And that pisses me off because I know I'm better than this. And so I want to ask you guys to forgive me because I know I got so much more. I should be emptying the tank and developing you guys and being a good coach. Guys, our company could be 20 times bigger by now. But you know what? I've been doing the ultimate cardinal sin. I haven't been working on me. I've been working so hard trying to make things happen. I haven't been working on me. And I've been burning the candle from both ends and I've been exhausted. I'm changing that. I'm going to get revived. I'm going to be a good leader. We're going to make a lot of money. I'm going to help you guys have great families and make good money. But also I can't ask you to hold yourself to a higher standard if I'm not right. And when you say, will you forgive me? And they say, we forgive you and you're sorry. And then you say, can I ask you permission to positively peer pressure you? Right. To become great. Does everybody think they've got another level on them? Yes. That's what I want.
