Moderation sounds like the sensible middle ground. One or two drinks, stay in control, and carry on.But I think there's a problem with that story. For me, moderation means wanting more of something but using willpower to force yourself to have less. And when willpower inevitably runs low, one drink can become two, two can become five, and suddenly we're wondering what went wrong. In this episode, I unpack why I believe moderation creates more mental noise than freedom, how confirmation bias convinces us we're better at moderating than we really are, and why those people who can nurse one drink all night might not be moderators at all. Most importantly, I explore what happens when you stop negotiating with alcohol altogether and discover the peace, confidence, and freedom on the other side. What You'll Learn:Why moderation relies so heavily on willpowerHow confirmation bias distorts the story we tell ourselves about drinkingWhy one or two drinks can so easily become fiveThe difference between a moderator and what I call a "non-drinker in disguise"Why going alcohol-free removes the constant negotiation and mental noiseTimestamps:00:00 – 03:00 Why I believe moderation is doomed to fail03:00 – 06:00 Confirmation bias and the moderation story06:00 – 09:00 Why two drinks can so easily become five09:00 – 11:00 The "non-drinker in disguise"11:00 – End Escaping the noise of moderation and choosing alcohol-freeIf this episode has inspired you to explore coaching, I'd love to invite you to join my Diploma in Coaching & Positive Psychology (DCPP) cohort and train to become a life and executive coach, and specialise in Alcohol-Free Performance coaching. This is one of the hardest truths I've ever had to accept. No one becomes a better person because of a drink. That doesn't mean people who drink are bad people. Far from it. It means alcohol never helps us become more authentic, more present, or more connected. It simply creates the illusion that it does.In this episode, I explore why alcohol convinces us we're becoming the person we want to be, why that illusion is so powerful, and why the greatest transformation begins when you finally meet the real you. What You'll Learn:Why alcohol creates the illusion of becoming a better version of yourselfThe difference between your authentic self and your alcohol-fuelled selfHow alcohol quietly fills the "gaps" we believe exist in our personalityWhy confidence built on alcohol is never lasting confidenceThe freedom that comes from showing up as your true selfTimestamps:00:00 – 02:00 The uncomfortable truth about alcohol02:00 – 06:00 Why alcohol tricks us into believing we're better people06:00 – 10:00 The illusion of confidence and "filling the gaps" in our personality10:00 – 14:00 What authenticity really looks like without alcohol14:00 – End Why your authentic self is your greatest superpowerIf this episode has inspired you to explore coaching, I'd love to invite you to join my Diploma in Coaching & Positive Psychology (DCPP) cohort and train to become a life and executive coach.Apply here: https://coachbusiness.school/diploma-capp/If you're looking to transform your relationship with alcohol, discover my Willpower Free Method and learn how to break free without relying on willpower alone.Find out more: https://andyramage.com/And don't forget to follow the podcast so you never miss an episode.Let's do this.Andy

What if the secret to transforming your mornings isn't another productivity hack? What if it's removing the one thing that's stealing them in the first place? For years, I believed I didn't have time. Going alcohol-free isn't just about giving up a drink. It's about having the courage to question everything. The beliefs you've inherited. The stories you've been told. The assumptions you've accepted simply because everyone else believes them too.In this episode, I explore why choosing a different path takes courage, but why it's also one of the most rewarding decisions you can ever make.I share how removing alcohol became the first domino in a complete transformation of my life, leading me to question my career, my health, my beliefs, and ultimately the way I wanted to live.Because once you realise you don't have to follow the crowd, a whole new world of possibility opens up.What You'll Learn:Why going alcohol-free is one of the bravest decisions you can makeHow courage creates momentum for transformation in every area of lifeWhy challenging conventional thinking can unlock extraordinary opportunitiesHow removing alcohol helped me redesign my career and my futureWhy your greatest growth often lies on the other side of fearTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 Why it takes courage to go against the crowd04:00 – 08:00 Escaping the alcohol trap and questioning conventional wisdom08:00 – 13:00 How courage transformed my health and lifestyle13:00 – 18:00 The courage to change careers and create a different life18:00 – End Why courage is the greatest gift of the alcohol-free adventureGoing Dry Documentary PremiereJoin us for the first public screening of Going Dry at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival TODAY, 8th July 2026 at Cinema Nova, Melbourne. For years, I thought I was showing up at my best on a Monday.Looking back, I wasn't even close.Like so many people, I was caught in a cycle of drinking, recovering, surviving, and calling it normal. I had no idea just how much alcohol was quietly stealing from me, not just my health, but my energy, ambition, focus, relationships, and productivity. In this episode, I explore why I believe alcohol is the world's biggest productivity killer, how it quietly puts a lid on our potential, and why removing it gives you an unfair advantage in every area of life.I also share the story of how going alcohol-free became one of the biggest competitive advantages in my own business, helping us break into one of the toughest industries imaginable. If you've ever wondered what life could look like if you consistently showed up as your best self, this episode is for you. What You'll Learn:Why alcohol quietly robs us of productivity, ambition, and momentumHow the "Hero on Monday, Zero on Thursday" cycle keeps people underperformingThe competitive advantage of living and working alcohol-freeWhy workplace drinking culture costs businesses billions every yearHow removing alcohol unlocks your true potential at work and at homeTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 Why alcohol is the world's biggest productivity killer04:00 – 09:00 The hidden cycle of underperformance most people never see09:00 – 13:00 How going alcohol-free transformed my business career13:00 – 19:00 The real cost of workplace drinking culture19:00 – End Why alcohol-free living is the ultimate productivity hackGoing Dry Documentary PremiereJoin us for the first public screening of Going Dry at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival on 8th July 2026 at Cinema Nova, Melbourne. When I first considered taking a break from alcohol, my biggest fear wasn't missing the drink. It was losing myself.Who would I be without alcohol? Would I still be fun? Would people still like me? Would I still be confident enough to walk into a room, dance at weddings, connect with people, and feel like I belonged?Looking back, I realise those fears had very little to do with alcohol and everything to do with identity. In this episode, I explore one of the biggest hidden challenges of going alcohol-free: rediscovering who you really are underneath the persona alcohol creates. I share my own experience, the stories I told myself for years, and why I now believe that finding your authentic self is one of the greatest gifts of this entire journey. What You'll Learn:Why fear of losing your identity keeps so many people stuckHow alcohol creates a version of ourselves that isn't truly authenticThe difference between confidence and alcohol-fuelled confidenceWhy authenticity is one of the greatest gifts of alcohol-free livingHow removing alcohol helps you reconnect with who you really areTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 My biggest fear about going alcohol-free04:00 – 08:00 The alcohol persona and losing touch with your authentic self08:00 – 12:00 Why we fear being judged, rejected, or left behind12:00 – 17:00 The power of showing up as the real you17:00 – End The treasure waiting on the other side of alcohol-free livingGoing Dry Documentary PremiereJoin us for the first public screening of Going Dry at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival on 8th July 2026 at Cinema Nova, Melbourne. Breaking news.My Dryy adventure is over. After more than four incredible years, the Dryy app and community has come to an end. But this isn't a story about failure. It's a story about impact, courage, learning, and what happens when you dare to take a swing at something that matters. In this episode, I reflect on the journey that Matt Pink and I embarked on together, helping tens of thousands of people transform their relationship with alcohol through the Dryy community.I share why I'm incredibly proud of what we built, the lessons I've learned from entrepreneurship, and why this ending feels more like a beginning. Most importantly, I explore one of the greatest gifts of alcohol-free living: becoming a dreamer of the day. The kind of person who stops talking about change and starts creating it.Because when alcohol is no longer stealing your time, energy, confidence, and momentum, extraordinary things start to happen. What You'll Learn:Why the end of Dryy is something I'm celebrating, not mourningThe lessons entrepreneurship teaches us about growth and resilienceWhy alcohol can quietly become a killer of dreams and ambitionThe difference between talking about change and taking actionHow becoming alcohol-free helps you become a "dreamer of the day"Timestamps:00:00 – 03:00 The end of Dryy and how it all began03:00 – 06:00 What we achieved and why I'm so proud of the journey06:00 – 09:00 What's next for me and the alcohol-free movement09:00 – 13:00 Why alcohol quietly steals dreams, confidence, and momentum13:00 – End Becoming a dreamer of the day and creating your best lifeIf you’re curious about becoming a coach, I run a free live workshop where I’ll show you how this all works and how you can turn it into something meaningful and purposeful. What if I told you that almost every reason people drink alcohol is actually created by alcohol itself?Stress. Anxiety. Escapism. Boredom. Even the need to relax. In this episode, I unpack what I call The Doom Loop. A powerful catch-22 that keeps millions of people stuck in an endless cycle where alcohol appears to be the solution, while secretly being the cause of the problem.Once you see it, you can't unsee it.This is one of the most important concepts I've ever shared because understanding the doom loop changes everything. What You'll Learn:Why alcohol creates many of the problems it claims to solveThe science behind stress, sleep, and the alcohol anxiety cycleHow the "doom loop" keeps people trapped in unwanted habitsWhy relaxation through alcohol is an illusionHow to break the cycle and build healthier ways to relax and unwindTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 What is the doom loop and why it matters04:00 – 08:00 The catch-22 that keeps drinkers stuck08:00 – 12:00 How alcohol creates stress while pretending to relieve it12:00 – 16:00 The hidden loops of anxiety, escapism, and boredom16:00 – End Breaking free from the doom loop for goodIf you want to go deeper and actually learn how to rewire your thinking, come and join me at Coach Business School (https://coachbusiness.school/).If you’re curious about becoming a coach, I run a free live workshop where I’ll show you how this all works and how you can turn it into something meaningful and purposeful. This episode was sparked by something I recently came across that genuinely frustrated me.Not because it was provocative, but because it touched on a belief about alcohol that I think so many of us have accepted without ever stopping to question. The idea got under my skin enough that I felt compelled to unpack it properly.Because when I look back at my own drinking career, I don't see alcohol making me a better version of myself. I see something very different. This is a powerful conversation about identity, authenticity, and becoming the person you were always meant to be.
