Hosted by Charlie Sorrel & Graham Bower · EN
Two hardcore Apple geeks take a bite out of Apple history to get to the core of what makes Apple so Appley.
In this episode, Graham tells Charlie the story of how Apple began a its partnership with Nike, which has now lasted for almost two decades. Described by Steve Jobs as "the speedometer of sports" the Nike+iPod Sport Kit was a revolutionary product that enabled an iPod to wirelessly communicate with a sensor concealed in the sole of a Nike running shoe.We look at how the launch of this product established a successful game plan for media events that Apple has been following ever since. And how Apple used a partnership to dip its toe into a new market sector and learn. The relationship between Nike and Apple has not been smooth, and the two partners simultaneously cooperated and competed with each other. Graham explains how a surprising strategic blunder on Apple's part ceded control of the platform to Nike. But ultimately Apple prevailed. Here are some links we discussed in the show:Design of the launch event at Chelsea Piers, NYC:http://www.denton-cardewdesign.com/nike-apple-nyc/66dsmmf6qqc89hcyu8lc0gk21cgdnrThe Puma Computer Running Shoe:https://www.theverge.com/2018/12/11/18136072/puma-1986-rs-computer-running-shoe-rereleaseThe Nike+ Air Zoom Moirehttp://sz9.es/kickstories-nike-air-zoom-moire/
