Does anyone really think that someone can tell President Trump what to do? Come on. I'm Roland Oliphant and this is Iran. The latest. It's a bank holiday weekend in the United Kingdom, for which reason we will not be in the studio today. We'll be somewhere else doing DIY or sitting in a traffic jam on the motorway on the way to the seaside or something of that sort. But in lieu of a daily news themed podcast, I have recorded a special edition of. It is part two, in fact, of our History of Iran series with the distinguished professor of Iranian history at St. Andrews University, Ali Ansari. Our last episode on this was focused on kind of ancient Persian history into the medieval period, going through the Muslim conquests, the rise of Shia Islam in Persia. This episode, we're skipping a few centuries, I'm afraid. I asked Ali to take us through the 20th century, through those periods that have culminated in the war that is being fought today. So without further ado, here is our conversation. I hope you find it as enlightening as I did.
