Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed, lost or just worn out. You’re missing that spark, that fire you had at the beginning of the year. I definitely hit that wall myself just a few months ago and ReFIREment is the process I used to help me rediscover my passion and my fire and today, others tell me how peaceful, surrendered and younger I look. And this journey begins from within. If you’ve never heard of the term ReFIREment, we’re going to go deeper on this four part series which began last time, helping you gain your passion back after a season of setbacks. The four steps are:Unplug: disconnecting from external resources temporarilyUnlearn: reevaluating & challenging existing ideas, beliefs and conceptsRest: experimenting with and understanding ways to deepen your restRelearn: incorporating new practices and beliefs to set you on a new path Today, let’s go deeper into step two, UNLEARN. As a philosophy student in college, one quote from Plato speaking about his mentor takes my breath away everytime I hear it and seek to apply it in my life. My paraphrase: Wisdom comes from knowing that you know nothing. How counter-cultural and counterintuitive is that statement in today’s world. And probably the single most important reason to UNPLUG from social media where everyone with an opinion, a conspiracy, or an axe to grind can/will post with absolute conviction and certainty AND which will be shared, reposted, retweeted, and amplified to an increasingly larger yet smaller-minded echo chamber of like-minded followers. Unlearning what you think you know unlocks new doors of potential in your business and life.

In our free Facebook #Future7FigureCEO online community, we presented some practical ways to UNPLUG in your first season of reFIREment. In this episode, we're bringing you audio from that LIVE presentation. For me, I challenged myself to stop certain actions for 30 days and then to check in again to see if I wanted to reinstall any of them. What UNPLUG looks like probably varies for all of us. I suggest starting by taking inventory of activities or actions that block your inner peace or knowing. These could be both so-called “good” or “bad” actions -- being curious and willing to reconsider these blocks will give you cues of items you’d want to consider. And this is also a great time to check your spirit. If resistance wells up when you consider giving up a particular activity for 30 days, that’s a likely candidate for consideration. For me, anytime I push back or resist an idea, it’s usually a sign of something I need to consider releasing for a bit. So, your assignment this week. Consider what a season of UNPLUG looks like for you. What are some actions or activities are you willing to forgo for a short period of time? Create this extra margin so you can take the next step along the ReFIREment journey: UNLEARN, which we will cover next time.

Over this five part series, we’ve been sharing our emerging PLAN of how we’re going to serve three types of business owners going forward. Leaders who either WANT, NEED or HAVE teams to help them multiply their impact by creating, growing and keeping teams THEY LOVE. We call this process: For LOVE of Team. Today, another hard truth gained during this season. The value of WAITING. During reFIREment, there are so many life and business lessons to learn, but none as important as the season of WAITING. People tend to think of surrender and waiting as passive. As type A’s or high D’s, we are constantly in motion, taking “massive action”. That’s the answer to every problem. And in our culture, we’re conditioned for instant results.Waiting is a season when things might not be easy. Yet, it is a season where we are being prepared for everything that lies ahead as we step into our purpose. We’re putting down strong and deep roots. And just like the fruit tree, we don’t plant it today and harvest delicious apples tomorrow. Let’s be thankful for this season of waiting.

Last time, we shared about the MOST powerful part of pivoting your business and life. I call it WHYPOWER. Today, let’s talk about Provision. The biggest pushback I get when I bring up the concept of taking a ReFirement Sabbatical is financial. We’ve got bills to pay and we cannot afford to leave the business even for a moment to sharpen our saw and renew our spirit. I hear this all of the time. And in our culture where we equate money to work, or income to value creation -- this is a very hard belief to overcome. As your virtual mentor today, I have some news for you. If you cannot step away from your business to take care of the primary asset in your business (YOU) -- perhaps for now you are an employee with a bad boss and not YET a business owner. If your business is not growing the way you’d hope, it’s usually one of three things. The OFFER, the Price or the People you are marketing to: there’s a misalignment somewhere in that mix. And since YOU are a big part of the offer, how you view money and provision makes all fo the difference. Next time: We continue our four part series around our pivot with the next P: Planning. When you become aligned on your why and trust the process, opportunities you never considered start coming your way.

Last time, we shared how taking a PAUSE gave us the margin needed to unplug, unlearn, rest and relearn. Otherwise known as ReFIREment. In this episode, let’s talk about the MOST powerful part of pivoting your business and life. I call it WHYPOWER. When you’ve taken the time for margin (and by the way, it doesn’t have to be weeks or months, sometimes a long weekend away will do), you will be flooded with creative or problem solving ideas. And if you are particularly decisive or a quick start by nature, now that you’ve decided on the WHAT, it’s easy to jump immediately to figuring out the HOW.Grinding in business and life reminds me of the term WILLpower. I will keep churning and working from a position of brute strength of will. I will not quit. I will find a way. WILLpower is not the answer. Instead, WHYpower is the recognition that ideas without purpose are not enough. I will share my process for finding your WHY in a very counter-intuitive way. Next time: We continue our four part series around our pivot with the next P: Provision. When you become aligned on your why, opportunities you never considered start coming your way.

Last time, we shared the PLAN of how we’re going to serve three types of business owners. Those who WANT, NEED or HAVE teams to help them multiply their impact. In this episode, let's talk about what happens when you hit the wall in your business. Perhaps it's burnout. Or something less noticeable, like when you start resenting your business or can no longer celebrate the success of your peers. You know something is OFF, but you can't put your finger on exactly what is going on. I tried doubling down on productivity practices. I started working longer and harder. Then one day during a new walking routine I’d implemented at the start of the COVID lockdown, it came to me. A word out of nowhere. REFIREMENT. Rediscovering my passion one small step at time. I had NO real plan, but in speaking to some peers, I ended up with four foundations of REFIREMENT -- a season of PAUSE. UnplugUnlearnRelearn Rest Next time, we'll talk about defining Purpose in a very counterintuitive way -- by thinking long-term so that external circumstances can no longer define your value.

Think of some successful, long-term, personal brand businesses. Now that you have them in mind, how many are thriving today as solopreneurs? Singular leaders delivering for their clients -- all alone. The American mythology of rugged individualism, pull yourself by your bootstrap is well ingrained in our culture. Yet, even thriving solopreneurs cannot do it alone. Someone, somewhere took a chance on them before they were established or well known. There are many examples of six figure solo businesses and precious few seven figure solo businesses without a team.As entrepreneurs, we all Want, Need, or Have a team with the expressed purpose of helping us multiply our impact in business. In this episode, we'll introduce you to #ForLoveOfTeam where intentionality meets heart in building, growing or keeping the Multipliers who can help you make the maximum difference. Namely, a team you absolutely LOVE. So many people today are searching for their "calling". Often times, others see your gifting before you do. Jennifer Harshman's career took off when she followed her curiosity to learn the difference between British and American style editing as a favor to a friend. Words and their power for change has always driven Jennifer's passion and now she helps others bring their experiences in book form. 84% of people say they want to write a book, yet only 1% do. Jennifer is on a mission to multiply that number of prospective authors through her agency. Anyone can be an author today, but reaching your audience with a message that truly lands often needs another set of eyes via a professional editor. This is one of my favorite interviews so far. Imagine winning multiple national championships for the most beautiful college campus in America. At a place where tens of thousands of people are tailgating in the middle of campus during an SEC football weekend late into Saturday night. And as dawn breaks on a peaceful Sunday morning, the mountains of trash have magically disappeared. In that moment, you understand WHY the team at the University of Mississippi are national champions. Taking his grounds staff, affectionately known as “weeders”, and developing them into “leaders” has been a joyous challenge that reaped acres of rewards in the form of national recognition by the Princeton Review, PGMS, Newsweek and every faculty, staff, student and visitor who has walked onto the Ole Miss Campus. Building on that momentum, Jeff has designed a professional development plan for his Weeders called Landscape University – a replicable training program that promotes the individual’s innate ability to GROW.***Featured Guest LinksJeff McManus websiteGrowing Weeders into Leaders bookText us feedback on this episode #TeamLOVE Book.
