First up was Ash's story. Ash experienced what we believe was sleep paralysis and woke up with a prophetic certainty that a tall blonde woman with a knife was walking toward their house, and then years later in rural Alabama with their partner Elliot, started hearing wrong animal sounds, seeing glowing eyes at the tree line, and voices calling from the woods before a very bad night with an ATV and a gunshot made everything a lot more real. Then we got into Candela's story from New Mexico, where a 19-year-old college student near the Mexican border watched strange lights moving in sharp, jagged patterns across the sky on two separate nights. Then we dove into Aaron's story from a small town in Virginia, where between the red-eyed figure lurking in the backyard, poltergeist activity luring the brothers out of the room to rearrange their playing cards, a Sacred Heart of Jesus painting hiding something very unexpected on the back, and a backwards-printing printer that was probably just haunted by HP customer service — the house was putting in serious work. We broke down the evidence people point to, from the gap between the Julian and Gregorian calendars to a suspicious lack of archaeological layers from that time period, and got into whether legendary figures like Charlemagne and Ragnar Lothbrok were real men exaggerated into myth, or were invented outright to pad out a fake timeline so a few power-hungry rulers could claim they ruled during the symbolically important year 1000. Standing inside that beam was a three-foot-tall pale being in a green coverall with a hooked nose, claw-like fingers, and a black box aimed directly at Arno that pulsed harder and harder until colored sparks shot out of the snow and drifted slowly across both men. What followed the encounter is where things really went sideways.
