Brianna Chickenfry
It's been a minute. I haven't seen you in a while.
Josh Richards
I know. It does feel like it's been like weirdly a long time.
Brianna Chickenfry
I think it's because we spent two weeks together and then I never saw you again.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're having, you know, withdrawal symptom.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, junior withdrawals. But you got a good fix in with your sway boys.
Josh Richards
I did, I did. We did A little Sway reunion. Pretty tight. Everyone came to the crib, which was fun. We've been trying to plan that since like I was planning the fire stream. So that's been like a long time coming. But it was awesome. It was sick to do a little stream, have a bunch of, you know, like, I feel like OG fans getting to really appreciate that and have fun with that. And now we're talking about where do we go from here? Like, do we start doing a little bit more in like the live streaming area? I don't think all the boys will always come through for every stream, but I do think there's like a majority of that group that wants to start doing fun streams. Like three day, four day, five day streams. We talked about doing like Sway Seas where we go out in the water and like we're on a boat for like five days and like, we only eat what we catch. We only like survive off of like, you know, being survivalists. We talked about going to Japan to do a stream. We talked about doing Brazil. We're talking about doing a camping stream. Yeah, we got a lot of stuff.
Brianna Chickenfry
Well, you guys are. Got a lot of streams to do.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We want to do like Calgary stampede. We want to do like an igloo stream, like go to like Alaska or something crazy.
Brianna Chickenfry
How are you gonna have any connection out there?
Josh Richards
We're gonna figure all that out. Shut up. Maybe, maybe we just figure out what's up with the Starlink going on, you know what I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay, all right.
Josh Richards
We. We will figure it out. We'll figure it all out.
Brianna Chickenfry
Well, I have a lot of questions about the Sway stream that just happened.
Josh Richards
Okay.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay. So obviously the elephant in the room, Jaden joined the stream.
Josh Richards
Yes. Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
And. Okay, there was so. Okay, where do I begin? So Jaden joined the stream and you guys like, hugs. You kind of talked it out. You had a little sit down moment. Was it all very genuine? How did you feel? Do you feel like you got what you needed out of the conversation?
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah. I mean, I think it's. It's kinda. I might sound like redundant or sound like I'm saying the same thing that I said on the stream. But I think it was a. It was like a closure experience, I guess in a way or like a good way just to come full circle. But I think that, I think that like it was good for the boys to be able to get that out. But I think more, at least how I felt about it, I felt like more. It was kind of for the people that watched us on a daily basis and, like, support us so much and, like, got us to where we are in our, you know, separate careers to, like, give back to that more than anything else. That's what that. To me, the whole stream was about, like, getting to give back to the audience that made Sway possible and everything. So I think it was cool. I think it was good.
Brianna Chickenfry
So after the stream, you were like, y'all, that was just for the fans. I still hate you, Jaden.
Josh Richards
No, no, that's not what I'm saying. Way to put words in my mouth. No, no, no. I think it's just like, I said it on the. In one of the clips. Like, I think the toughest part about the entire situation was, like, not necessarily losing a girlfriend or something like that, but more losing a best friend at that age is tough because you don't make a lot of more best friends after the age of 21. You know, you kind of have your best friends that you've grown up with, because there's a aspect of being a best friend with someone that you need to have a history. Right? Like, that's part of being a best friend. You have those inside jokes. You've known each other for a long time. Yeah. You can still make close friends, and you might even make one or. Or two more people that you consider a best friend. But typically those people that you have in that college relationship or those college years, which was, like, my Sway experience, those are those people that you, you know, still see when you're 40 or you still have, like, these, like, meetups every year and go hang out with them. So I think that was the toughest part about it all. Like, knowing that'll never get to a hundred percent again is probably, like, the. The tough part about it, because, you know, there's obviously a part of me that's like, man, I wish we all could be Sway again, or, like, all just be friends again and all go get to hang out and do whatever. But there's never gonna be a time where, like, you know, there's not something, like, in the back of my head or a voice in the back of my head being like, oh, you got to be careful. Got to be careful. Gotta be. You know what I'm saying?
Brianna Chickenfry
I mean, I can relate to that so much. I'm the best friend breakup queen. And it sucks because, like you said, with best friends, there's so much history there, and you're. You don't feel like you can really recreate the magic. But then it's like, even if you do amend things. Like, it's never fully gonna be the same.
Josh Richards
Yeah. Yeah. So, like, you know, I. I feel like I was able to do this dream, and, like, I'm so past anything that, like, I guess I would say happened to me or anything that happened in that house, because I'm just so content with my life, you know, I'm so happy with where I'm at. I'm so happy with who I have in my life, who. Who I've surrounded myself with, like, the person that I've become and I'm still growing into and. And becoming. And I have an amazing girl in my corner that's, you know, my biggest fan and always supporting me, and I. I'm doing the same for her and trying to do that more and more. So it's like, I. I have so many good things. There's not enough room to, like, hold, like, some grudge. There's not enough room. Like, there. There's no need for that. There's no need for that. So that's. That's really how I looked at it all was just. What's the point of, like, having this, like, hostility or this, you know, thing eating at me when I. I have so many things to be blessed for and, like, enjoy and be grateful for, and, you know, that's from my personal life to work life to everything family, like, people are in. In good health. Everything's great. So it's like, nothing. Nothing to be too concerned about.
Brianna Chickenfry
That's a beautiful way to look at it, Jay.
Josh Richards
Yeah. You know, trying to grow up. Trying to grow up. Even though some people still call me, you know, a little brother that is picking their nose or whatever, but, you know, whatever.
Brianna Chickenfry
Well, they asked me what the relationship was like, and this was right after New Orleans when you were just being disgusting, and.
Josh Richards
I wasn't being disgusting.
Brianna Chickenfry
You were being disgusting. And you. I just. You do. Little brother, where it's like, this is an exact quote.
Josh Richards
Can we get an exact quote of what Brie said?
Brianna Chickenfry
I think I said, Jay is like my little brother. You know, he does, like, the gross where he's picking his nose and stuff. But I love him, and I love seeing him come into himself on the pod. Okay, relax. Come into who you are. Don't be gross, Little brother. Right there. Prove my point.
Josh Richards
I'm not even coming to myself.
Brianna Chickenfry
Dude. Proven. Point proven.
Josh Richards
I must be flexible as hell.
Brianna Chickenfry
Point proven.
Josh Richards
Disgusting.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay, see? Point proven right there.
Josh Richards
Oh, on the podcast, too.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay, relax.
Josh Richards
See?
Brianna Chickenfry
Enough. Enough.
Josh Richards
Disgusting. Bri, you're really, like, the little sister.
Brianna Chickenfry
That I'm big sis. Oh, I'm big sis. I'm big mama.
Josh Richards
Oh, you. Dude, I'm just.
Brianna Chickenfry
That's just a lot of thing we've been saying. Have you been caught up to speed on the bad baby Danielle? Wait, what the hell? Bad baby in Alabama Barker.
Josh Richards
A little bit. We. We reacted to part of the diss tracks on the stream, but Bryce very quickly was like, they're both ass. So we stopped reacting to them. But I thought. I thought that Danielle Bolgi went crazy.
Brianna Chickenfry
She won't stop. She's on, like, her third diss track, and Alabama hasn't even been able to get any out. And she just keeps going, going. And then Alab Bama made a diss track and dissed her. Her baby. Bad baby's little baby.
Josh Richards
She. She made a baby diss.
Brianna Chickenfry
She made a baby dish. She dissed the baby.
Josh Richards
Oh, dude, I'm like, come on, why.
Brianna Chickenfry
Are you dissing the baby? I just don't get it.
Josh Richards
That's obviously messed up. And, you know, you shouldn't diss a baby.
Brianna Chickenfry
But, like, I don't think anything's off limits and disses, though, right?
Josh Richards
Ah, I guess. I don't know. I mean, if you pull out, though, and you forget those are two people, right? Like, those are two, like, human beings. If you just forget about that for a second. Someone making a diss track on a baby. Hilarious. Like, that is really fun.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. Like, if it was directed, like, just strictly like, I hate this baby.
Dave Portnoy
That's.
Josh Richards
That is the funniest thing ever. I should write a sketch about that. I'm gonna write. Yeah, I was just saying. I was just thinking, like, that's gonna be a sketch. And that's funny because we had a sketch idea where, like, there's this guy that keeps beefing with this baby. Like, the baby's, like, all cute and everyone thinks it's so cute, but the baby keeps, like, giving, like, side eye looks to this guy. Even, like, kind of, like, steals his girl, like, does all this stuff. And, like, the guy starts, like, arguing with the baby, but obviously no one sees the baby doing anything crazy. And it's just this guy, like, cussing out a baby. That's crazy that she. She dissed a baby.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, it's. It's pretty tough to watch. There's just no coming back for. For her. But Danielle just keeps going and going and going. And I' Alabama, I think you just need a wave the white flag.
Josh Richards
Right? Right, Right, Right. Just give up. Yeah, give up. I think my favorite Part about this whole situation has been the meme that's been built off of Landon Barker just in his little, like, dance, everything like that. Me and the boys made a video that. And people thought I was. People thought I was bullying land. They were like, wow, the bullying land. I'm like, what? What are you guys talking about? We just did the video and tagged him. And we're like, yeah, Landon's also, like, a friend of mine.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, no, that's not bullying. I think that's just, like, getting in on the jokes with Landon. But, yeah, I feel bad for Alabama Barker, honestly, because there's no coming back for it. And I feel like she's. This is just gonna be, like, the stain of her life. She's just always gonna be the bad baby dish. Miss Women.
Josh Richards
Yeah. Yeah, it's tough. I mean, you went against. You went against Gucci flip flops. I don't know why you did that.
Brianna Chickenfry
You can't go against Gucci flip flops. As Trino is getting finger blasted on live.
Josh Richards
What? Yep. How? Okay, so on Tik Tok.
Brianna Chickenfry
On Tik Tok Live.
Josh Richards
And it was, like, just going. The stream was going.
Brianna Chickenfry
She was, like. She was live streaming with someone. Okay, this is, like, what everyone has gathered. This is what everyone is, like, assuming was happening. She's, like, on live with another person, and she keeps, like, talking and there's someone in the bed with her, but then she keeps making, like, crazy orgasmic faces and, like, can't keep them to herself. And then she'll, like, try to come back to herself and then make crazy sounds and crazy faces and. Yeah, she's just out of her mind. And that brings me to Brie Olsen on the live stream. What the hell was up with that?
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Not too much of my girl Gabby. Not too much on my girl Gabby. She said that she's going to bitch slap Gabby. She's going to slap Gabby. The only thing thing that's getting slapped is her ass behind bars from child protection services. Go take care of your not. What did Gabby do to you? What did Gabby do besides sit there and look pretty?
Josh Richards
Do you think, like, you really are? I don't know what it is. Narcissistic, egotistical, delusional, schizophrenic maybe. In what world do you think you're on Gabriella Moore's radar? In what world? What I can tell you. Not this one. Not this multiverse. There's no world Gabby even knew who you were or had ever heard of you in her life until after we got out of Saddle the whole. Like, she was looking at me the whole time.
Brianna Chickenfry
Come on.
Josh Richards
Nobody in that place was looking at you the whole time. I can tell you that right now. The only time someone might have been looking at you was to be like, damn, woman, put on some clothes. All right, so relax, relax. Take a step down. And first of all, I'm sorry you've never seen a healthy relationship, but, you know, when two people really enjoy each other's company, they typically stay close together. She wasn't following me around. She's enjoying my company. I hadn't seen her.
Brianna Chickenfry
You were streaming for three days.
Josh Richards
I didn't see her for three days. All right, so you better just watch yourself. I know you don't know what a healthy relationship is, but that's what it looks like. That's what. When two people are in love, that's what they look like. So anyways, yeah, we were there. We're at Saddle Ranch, and I. I just go to walk. Walk outside, and we have, you know, like, the Saddle has always been good to the Sway boys. The owner there, everyone there, they've always been really good to us. So we thought, why not end the Sway reunion stream with going to Saddle Ranch?
Brianna Chickenfry
No, I loved that. That was really cool.
Josh Richards
I thought it was like, you know, the boys had brought it up and. And we were all like, yeah, let's do this. Like, this is a cool little way to, you know, end this. Actually, I had my friend Johnny GW text me and was like, yo, we saw you doing the Sway Stream. If you guys want to come to Saddle Pull through, like, you still have, like, your black card there. Because I had gotten a black card at Saddle Ranch one time.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, my God, that is so LA influencer. You have a black card to Saddle Ranch?
Josh Richards
Yeah. And they put, like, something crazy, like 10,000, $15,000 on this card. So, like, God, you just. So that's that. So shout out Saddle, first of all. But we're there, and, you know, they. They give us this big middle table like that we're sitting at, because we have a huge group with us. We're like, productions, all their crews, all that. Everyone's there. And I'm walking through, and she, like, shouts out some comment along the lines of, you know, like, if y'all keep walking into my table, y'all gonna have to buy me drinks. Oh, no, we don't. Not doing that. So we just kind of kept walking. And I told Anthony, you know, that same thing I just told you. Like, oh, we walked by and this random person, like, had the idea.
Brianna Chickenfry
We didn't know, we didn't even know who she was until we got the down low of Ash Trevino two episodes ago. One episode ago. Because the whole Internet was talking about her. So we, like, I watched a documentary on her on YouTube so that I could fill you in because the whole Internet was talking about her. And then like, I briefly, I think they talked a little bit about Brie Olsen in that, but like, no, yeah, yeah. Like, we didn't know who she was. And I didn't really know who she was until this live stream when she said she was going to slap you and Gabby. So, like, oh, she was. When I was the live stream? Yeah, Yeah, I knew you didn't because you didn't know who Ash. When I was explaining as Trevino, I still barely knew and you were clueless. So, like, you didn't know who she was at the stream then. There's no world where Gabby knew who she was during the stream.
Josh Richards
You know, I don't even, I had literally zero idea. So, I mean, still wasn't a fan when I didn't know her. And so, you know, I tell Anthony, like, I'm like some random person asked her to drink, like, what the hell? And then I, I make a joke to Anthony and I was like, I was like, first of all, like, we're out in public, put some clothes on, you know what I'm saying? And then he told me the story. I, I, I don't really remember. I, I honestly just, I think I just had a few bevs in me and I was getting a little, I was just like a little mean. I was in a mode, you know.
Brianna Chickenfry
I normally wouldn't condone that. Still kind of don't, but because she said you would, she would slap you and Gabby, then I'll let you say it.
Josh Richards
I 100% condone it. You have a kid. Go take care of your kid.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, I agree with that. I agree with that.
Josh Richards
You know, I, I am so backing myself and I will, I will double down, triple down, quadruple down. I'll send tipple down.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, I, anything's on limits with this girl.
Josh Richards
So anyways, then Anthony kind of gives me this rundown while we're outside and he's like, yo, this is this person. They have like this like, house or whatever. It's like, I think it's something like the, the run away from their firstborn house or something like that. I don't remember exactly what, but it's like this crib and so she had, like, left her baby daddy 2k and, like, this guy with the kid and then, like, made these, like, false claims on it. Like, it was like this big crazy story. So I was like, oh, wow, what the hell? W2K? W2K. So we were just, like, running around making jokes about W2K all night long.
Brianna Chickenfry
And I see. I tried to understand, what does that mean?
Josh Richards
W is like a W. Like, as in, like a win.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, I know, but what's 2K?
Josh Richards
2K is the baby daddy.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, I was. Oh, my God. I was thinking the basketball game.
Josh Richards
No, no, no, no.
Brianna Chickenfry
I was so confused.
Josh Richards
W2K the game and the guy.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay, all right. W2K.
Josh Richards
So that was kind of the. The situation. I was really just run down from my source, Anthony, and then that was it for the night. Like, I never ran into. I never. I never saw it again. I never, like. I mean, didn't really choose to associate either. So we were outside for a lot of the rest of the night, wrapped up the stream, and then very quickly after, we went back to the crib because Gabby was flying out that night to go to Puerto Rico. So.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. And that's.
Josh Richards
That was that. Then my sister made a video, which is pretty cool.
Brianna Chickenfry
I texted Gabby immediately when I saw I was fuming. And I was like, I'm gonna make a video. But then I was like, you know what? I feel like that's what she wants is everyone to, like, talk about her. But this is a weird side quest. Last night, Sty went and did a live stream with World of T Shirts, right? And he facetimes me. I just think it's thiny. I open it, it's World of T Shirts. I'm on the stream and they say, bri. And then someone, like, puts in the chat if. And they were telling me to come meet them at the bar, and I think they thought it was Bri Olsen, because someone put, like, spent 15 to say in the chat, like, tell that scamming ass hoe that the restraining order is only good in L. A County. It doesn't count in New York City. I'm going to come meet you at the bar. Me and my goons are going to settle this, you scamming asshole. So I would assume, like, when I put everything together, I would just assume that would have to be about Brielson, because LA County, I don't have restraining orders on anyone. Breathe. I was like, what the fuck is going on? Get me off of this live stream.
Josh Richards
Yeah, that's wild. That's wild.
Brianna Chickenfry
She has a lot of enemies, I think.
Josh Richards
Yes, she does.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, I just thought I was answering a FaceTime to sign it. And then he opens it in its world of T shirts. He tried to get me to come to the bar. Listen, he has pancreatitis now and stuff. I don't. I just want him to get better. I was kind of stepping out of that.
Dave Portnoy
Is it.
Josh Richards
Is pancreatitis like. Can you catch that?
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, no, I wasn't staying away to catch it. I just. I don't think we should be promoting his drinking. You can't catch. It's not like syphilis.
Josh Richards
Wicked. Yeah, I don't. It's probably not wicked that pinky. No, no.
Brianna Chickenfry
Wicked bad.
Josh Richards
Yeah. Get well.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, get well soon. Also, speaking of the stream, just. We'll call back to. There was a lot of production. Who's that? Cameron. Who was that? Production guy.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Boy, people were talking. I mean, I'm pretty sure the last time I looked there was an edit. If I look up Sway, I think I reposted it.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, I didn't.
Josh Richards
If that. There's like multiple. Multiple videos. Like, I seen one with like 250, 000 likes. Yep, there's one with like 80, 000 likes. It's booming about this man.
Brianna Chickenfry
I mean, he's the hottest. He's the Sway boy that I had my eyes on. I was like, oh, my gosh.
Josh Richards
Way boy. That never was a part of Sway. He was the missing Sway boy. But, yeah, his name's Kim.
Brianna Chickenfry
Kim. Cool.
Josh Richards
Kim.
Brianna Chickenfry
Interesting.
Josh Richards
He's Brazilian. Brazilian. Kim Rocha.
Brianna Chickenfry
You could have a Brazilian girlfriend. I could have a Brazilian boyfriend.
Josh Richards
We could do that.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yep. They say shoot a shoot together. Kim, what's up with you? Wait, what you say?
Josh Richards
Can he. We could do like Carnival together. That would have been really funny, timely video for you to update. Like, if you would have made, like.
Brianna Chickenfry
I know, but I don't think it was out yet.
Josh Richards
And you did like the Sway cameraman. Like, that would. That would have done numbers.
Brianna Chickenfry
That would have done numbers. Wow. Should have thought about it.
Josh Richards
Talking about streaming, I think we should eventually do like a BFF stream.
Brianna Chickenfry
I know, I think. What could we do? I want to do a cool one though, too. Like, you want to go to the ocean? Like, we should do something insane.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, definitely. I think, like, if we have to.
Brianna Chickenfry
Do a stream, we should let the listeners pick.
Josh Richards
Yeah. Maybe the listeners in the comment section right now. Give us some ideas of what they want to see us do.
Brianna Chickenfry
Drop a stream.
Josh Richards
Like a 72 hour. What's like. Or like.
Brianna Chickenfry
Or like, I'll do a 72 hour.
Josh Richards
Would you be able to do 72 hours?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, I actually owe the people 72 hours, so. Yeah, let's do it.
Dave Portnoy
There we go.
Josh Richards
You heard it here first. Give us ideas.
Brianna Chickenfry
Maybe, like, somewhere in the wilderness or something.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
I like that. That's fun. We have to make fire and we have to catch fish and.
Josh Richards
Yep.
Brianna Chickenfry
I guess I just stole that from your eyes. Survivor idea.
Josh Richards
But that's okay. That's okay. So whatever. We can figure something out. The listeners will give us something.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. Okay, cool. So I'm glad the stream went well and no one got slapped.
Josh Richards
No, no one. No one really got on each other's nerves too much. I feel like everyone was pretty. Pretty chill. I saw Bryce starting to lose it. Bryce and Blake were starting to lose it a little bit when Quentin was just, you know, being the JBL speaker kid. Like, he was just walking around with the JBL speaker the entire time, like, playing music. And it was funny because he was just playing his own music.
Brianna Chickenfry
Wait, that's a good promo.
Josh Richards
It also wasn't released music. It was unreleased music. So it's like, nobody.
Brianna Chickenfry
Nobody sing along.
Josh Richards
No one can, like. No one can, like, sing along. Which, like, the first time they were showing the unreleased music, it was cool, you know, because we're like, oh, no. Like, we haven't heard this. And then, like, you know, they start going through the list the second time, and it's like, okay, all right. No, this is still dope. This is dope. I like this. And then it's the third time, you're like, all right, all right. We. We gotta. We gotta, like. We gotta play, like, something maybe that everybody knows.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, maybe switch it up. But he's hoping you guys learn the lyrics by the third time.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He wants us to know the lyrics. And then, you know, once the seventh time in a row comes along, it's like, all right, maybe we turn the speaker off now. It's three in the morning. Yeah, let's turn.
Brianna Chickenfry
Cut it out. I also saw what else. One more thing from the stream. Dixie showed up. She felt a little ambushed by Bryce and Griffin in the beginning.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
So Jaden dropped a bomb.
Josh Richards
Yeah, Jaden dropped a bomb. That was obviously before she had arrived. But the whole ambush thing, I think, was completely misunderstood because I had. Dixie had said something after the stream that was like, I knew I was coming on to be recorded. It didn't have to do with the. It didn't have to do with the Bryce of it all or him coming up. It had to do with, like, I think something to do with, like, getting miked up and like the mics going up her shirt and down here. Yeah, it wasn't like the Bryce coming up. She knew that. Like, she was expecting that. How do you not?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, she's coming into a live stream. So into, like, she was so funny and good on the live stream.
Josh Richards
So I think, yeah, people enjoyed it and she said that she really enjoyed it as well. So.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. Yeah. Love, Dixie. Should we do some headlines?
Josh Richards
Yeah, let's get into some headlines.
Brianna Chickenfry
All right, guys, quick commercial break. You can grab a can of Ghost juiciest flavor yet, Peaches. It's mouth watering, juicy and full of ripe peach flavor. Your search for the perfect peach energy drink ends here. So plus, now for a limited time, you can grab the basketball inspired can. Ghost is the official energy drink partner of the inaugural college basketball Crown, a brand new postseason basketball tournament in Las Vegas from March 31 to April 6. So like all other Ghost Energy, it's fully transparent, full, fully loaded, feel good energy, zero sugars, no artificial flavors, and 200 milligrams of natural caffeine. I've been drinking my ghost this whole episode. Peaches is amazing. This is, I think, my favorite flavor in the world, though. It's the blue sour. Blue raspberry Sour Patch Kid. Tastes exactly like it, but every flavor tastes exactly like what it describes, which I just don't understand how they put it into a can and it doesn't make you feel all jittery. It's amazing. So you can go find Peaches nationwide at Alberson's, jewel, osco, circle k7, 11 and more. Let's get back to the episode. Have you seen, Wait, do you know the Food Boys? The Food Boy podcast? Did you see that? Dave is with them today.
Josh Richards
I don't know who the Food Boys are.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, my God. Oh, Josh. They are. So we got Chub, Perm, Nonchalant, no name, and McLovin. It's these four boys that are like middle school age, maybe like freshmen in high school, and they started a podcast where they just talk about food and they went viral because essentially the comments are just the funniest thing in the world. And like, everyone dissects all of their banter and they're literally just like, yeah, ketchup's kind of fire. I like cauliflower. Like, it is just bad. And they are blowing the up. And Dave went and Did a pizza review with them today. Look at his Instagram story right now. I have never seen Dave look so happy in his life. He's getting his sense of you back with these boys.
Josh Richards
So he feels like he's with the. The Sway Boys again.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. This is his new. He's gonna have podcast. This is why he left BFFs.
Josh Richards
Yeah, he's gonna start this.
Brianna Chickenfry
He's start this.
Josh Richards
BFFs. BFFs. Junior.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. This age gaps too much, though, D. Come on. I'm excited for that. Oh, this your boy, Braxton?
Josh Richards
Yep.
Brianna Chickenfry
Trade it to the Texans.
Josh Richards
To the. I actually texted him. I was, like, gonna be excited to see you playing in Houston. Hope you're pumped. That's a. It's a great team. A great team to go to.
Brianna Chickenfry
That is a good team. Great team. I love the Texans. Super happy for Braxton. Happy for Alex. She loves Texas.
Josh Richards
Yeah. Yeah. I wonder if they're gonna do the move. Wonder if they're gonna, you know.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, she's. She's. No way she's gonna move. But she'll definitely visit him all the time.
Josh Richards
Yeah. Yeah, that's good. They're always on the road anyways. Yeah, they're always around, talking about Texans. Another Texans fan is Sketching. I saw you posted a story about Sketch.
Brianna Chickenfry
That was my close friends. Oh, that was my close friends. But we can. We can go into it if you would like.
Josh Richards
No, I mean, if you want to keep it to your close friends, you can.
Brianna Chickenfry
I think Sketch is hot.
Josh Richards
This. This podcast is called BFFs.
Brianna Chickenfry
I think sketch is hot. What was I. I told you. The whole time we were in New Orleans with him, I was like, I have a crush on Sketch. I told Sketch I have a crush on him. I think he's hot. Funny, cute, hilarious, and nice and smart.
Josh Richards
You posted. I don't care what other people. I think he's hot.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay, I didn't write all that. I wrote. I. There was. Okay, so Sketch played in I don't.
Josh Richards
Care what people say, he's hot. And then she posted an edit of him playing in the soccer tournament as the keeper. And she was like, man. And then under the post. Under the post, she said, I don't care what people say, but he's hot. It was the video of his I don't care.
Brianna Chickenfry
He's hot.
Josh Richards
And then she was like, I'd let his balls in.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay, that's crazy. I could. I did not fucking say that.
Josh Richards
I'd let his balls go in my net.
Brianna Chickenfry
Can you. I Mean, that's funny. But no balls in my net. Stop it. But he played in the. In the tournament.
Josh Richards
Balls like that. Sketch. That's what she said. Okay, if you gloves to hold your balls. Sketch. That's what she said.
Brianna Chickenfry
I wouldn't put on. I wouldn't put on gloves. Okay, gross. Stop. I just think he is adorable. And that edit of him. He's a smoke show. I don't care. Sketch is the best. I've never had better interactions with a human being. And yeah, I said it. I can't believe you just aired out my close friend story like that.
Josh Richards
I. I honestly had no idea it was your close friend's story. And I'll even make this worse. I didn't even see the story I was told about the story.
Brianna Chickenfry
Who told you?
Josh Richards
Hey, no, it wasn't Gabby. It wasn't Gabby.
Brianna Chickenfry
Who the would tell you? I'm trying to think of who's on my story.
Josh Richards
I think it was Blake.
Brianna Chickenfry
Blake is not on my story.
Josh Richards
A cooker.
Brianna Chickenfry
Blake Hook. Who is Blake Hooker.
Josh Richards
I think it was B. Huncho that told me. Didn't show me.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh. Because Gap. Because Grace is on my close friends.
Josh Richards
Oh, so maybe it was like a trickle down banging.
Brianna Chickenfry
It was a trickle down thing. Yeah. Well. Wow. Guess my love life is the talk of the town.
Josh Richards
Yeah. Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yep. No, I just love sketch to death. So if you're not married by 40 and you want to get married. Sketch hit me up.
Josh Richards
Nice.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yep. Doing a lot of shooters shoot this episode.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But what's new?
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay, I've actually never shot my shot ever publicly with anyone. Now I'm just being crazy.
Josh Richards
What's new?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, what else you want to talk about, man?
Josh Richards
I mean, any other guys you wanna. That's what the show is now.
Brianna Chickenfry
You think I'm dumb enough to tell you anything, you dumb dirty hoe. I wouldn't even tell you what color socks I got on.
Josh Richards
You already told me what color shoes you had on. Yellow.
Brianna Chickenfry
Not the socks. There is a lot of barstool drama that we're not involved in. So it's kind of cool and fun to.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
See?
Josh Richards
Different.
Brianna Chickenfry
Have you seen it?
Josh Richards
I haven't seen it. I saw a little clip of it and I scrolled by.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay. Do you want me to fill you in? It's kind of funny.
Josh Richards
Yeah, I want to be filled in. I. I was assuming you were going to fill me in because usually you have a, you know, a little bit more of the finger in the pulse of the bar stool drama. So I Was like, I see.
Brianna Chickenfry
But this one is in Chicago. So I came up on my feed, and there are two girls in Chicago, King Krabby Patty and Ella. And there was this boy, Nikki Smokes, who dated King Krabby Patty for a while. They all work at the office together.
Josh Richards
They did kind of be Tommy Smokes. What's with the name Steel?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, that is a name still. And no one can do it like the real Smokes does it. So I don't know.
Josh Richards
But does Tommy Smokes and Nikki Smokes have beef over who Smoke?
Brianna Chickenfry
I think everyone knows who the real Smokes is. And Tommy doesn't beef with anyone. He's just a good guy. I actually have to invite him to my party after this episode.
Josh Richards
Okay.
Brianna Chickenfry
But anyways, Nikki Smokes, the second Smokes. He dated King Krabby Patty for a while. They're, like, on and off, but they still work together. They're still friends. Ella, King Krabby Patty are friends. Girlfriends, like friends that are girls in the Chicago office. So there was one day where Ella went and got drinks with Nikki Smokes, King Krabby Patty's ex, and she turned her location off. And King Krabby Patty noticed that she turned her location off. And she was like, that's kind of sketchy. We're friends. You turned your location off, and you went and got drinks with my ex. And then it kind of all unfolded at Brandon Walker Rest in Peace's funeral, and everyone went crazy. She kind of freaked out at Nikki Smokes. He freaked out at her. The Ella girl was like, no one wants to Nicky Smokes. And the crowd erupted. So there's beef. What do you think about that? What do you think? I want to see your take. You're an outsider that has no idea about these people. Okay, so say. How do I. How do I put this? Because you're a boy, so I get.
Josh Richards
All of this weird to turn off the location.
Brianna Chickenfry
That's what I'm saying. Like the location thing. If your friend, like, you and Gabby broke up, Blake goes and gets drink drinks with Gabby and turns the location off.
Josh Richards
Yeah. No, that would never. We wouldn't be friends. That's weird.
Brianna Chickenfry
The location turn off just feels unnecessary if nothing's happening.
Josh Richards
Yeah, exactly. You don't turn off your location if you have nothing to hide.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, there's no.
Josh Richards
There's no. Like, what. What's your excuse? Oh, I didn't want you to get mad. So what, you were going to never tell me, so you're gonna lie to me about it? You were Just gonna not ever tell me that you guys went and got drinks.
Brianna Chickenfry
Fair. That's also though devil's advocate, though. I don't really know these girls. Friendship. So, like, I don't know if she was like, she was just, like, stressed about it and she's like, we're not that close. So I just don't want her to think anything of it. I do believe the Ella girl when she says she doesn't want to. Nikki smokes. Because I'm just going to go ahead and believe that one. And no shade, no tea. But I don't know, I think just don't turn your location off and maybe it wouldn't have been weird.
Josh Richards
Yeah, Yeah, I gotta, I gotta say, that's strange. I mean, if you were, if you were friends, if you consider yourselves friends, like good friends. Super weird.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, that's, that's what, we don't know their level of friendship. So I don't know. The drama unfolded and unbusted and I'm, I'm just glad we weren't there watching it because I'm awkward.
Josh Richards
I would have loved to have been.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, I hate secondhand. I get secondhand, like, anxiety from that shit. I can't even watch Nelk prank videos.
Josh Richards
I think I would, I would eat that right up.
Brianna Chickenfry
You would? You love that.
Josh Richards
I, I think I wouldn't love the, the setting. You said it happened at the funeral.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yes, but he's not actually dead. Yeah. What's not. Oh, yeah, we should clarify that. He's. It was, it was a fake funeral because his contract was up and he was, like, leaving barstool and he was present at his own funeral.
Josh Richards
I, I, I don't notice, but I was, like, smiling when you were telling the story and then you said, all right. I went into my serious remorse face. I went.
Brianna Chickenfry
I didn't even think of that. I just assume. Everyone knows.
Josh Richards
Yeah, no, I went into my. Okay, it's time to get serious. Let's have some room. I went.
Brianna Chickenfry
You are trained. Well, let me not just sad little, a little tear. Rip Brennan Walker. No, he's alive and shining.
Josh Richards
Okay. Okay. Wow. Threw me for a loop. Threw me for a loop.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Josh Richards
Good.
Brianna Chickenfry
That's good.
Josh Richards
One more life. One more life. One more mouth to feed on the search, man. I mean, we touched on it, but congrats on Elite Daily.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, thank you. It was a fun little piece.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah. They were cool photos.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, it was fun.
Josh Richards
It, like. Did you have something stuck in your teeth? Why was your fingers in your mouth so much?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, they Told me to pretend that I was checking. Like, pretend you're getting ready before the photo booth instead of, like, actually the photo booth pictures?
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
So those hands was all up in.
Josh Richards
Those, all in your mouth? Yep. Hand sanitizer. At least that day.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, for sure. Oh, we do have the direct quote. He picks on me like I'm his older sister. He's so annoying and gross. The little brother, where it's like he's picking his boogers, but I love him. That's. And, oh, yeah. But I said nice things. You can watch my progression throughout the show. I gain confidence. Oh, I don't. The quote of the nice quote about you is on here. No, there's a nice quote about you, but it's just not on here. I said that it's really nice. We already went over this to watch you come into yourself, and I don't like to say it anymore. I know. I went to London.
Josh Richards
You did. You interviewed Lola Young.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. And it was friggin awesome. I can't wait. My new show comes out next week, so stay tuned. It was awesome. We already have so many cool guests lined up. It was so fun. London was awesome. Peyton almost got stabbed. Terrible. But turned out great. She didn't get stabbed. London and their knives, they just love shifts. They love shanking people. But yeah, we need to go BFFs in London.
Josh Richards
All right, I'm down.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, I think that's everything for BFFs Corner, right? Because we talked about Sway.
Josh Richards
Yeah, I think we hit it all.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, but before we get into the next portion of this, it's Lil Nas X. I just want to say we were in LA and we interviewed him in person, and I have never met someone with such, like, a genuine, warm aura. He was like the sweetest, most precious person, and I just, like, felt safe in a room with him. And it was really fun to interview him. So I just. I just want to say I really love Lil Nas X and I'm really excited and proud of him for this new era.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, no, it's a good. It's a good pod. You guys sent me a clip and I looked flabbergasted.
Brianna Chickenfry
That's. It's hilarious.
Josh Richards
But no, I. I had fun filming that pod, so enjoy it.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, the little Nas, we go. Are we doing headphones?
Josh Richards
Yeah. We always go through this. Like, what?
Brianna Chickenfry
It's up to you.
Josh Richards
If you like it better, I might take. I'm gonna take mine off.
Dave Portnoy
I don't know.
Brianna Chickenfry
It's up to you. You're. You're a musician, so maybe, you know.
Dave Portnoy
Maybe like, I hold it, like, in a cool way or something.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dave Portnoy
No, no, no.
Brianna Chickenfry
It's up to you. If you want to wear them, you totally can.
Dave Portnoy
Okay, I'm going to do it.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay. Love it.
Dave Portnoy
It feels right.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, it looks good, too. You look good with the headphones on.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah? Yeah, I kind of have, like a headphone vibe. Huh?
Brianna Chickenfry
You do have a headphone vibe.
Dave Portnoy
I can see that.
Brianna Chickenfry
All right, we're good to go. You good?
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. Are these on? I don't hear anything. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Brianna Chickenfry
I think it was.
Dave Portnoy
There it is.
Brianna Chickenfry
You got you yourself. Hey.
Dave Portnoy
Okay, let's do it.
Brianna Chickenfry
All right, guys. This episode is brought to you by Body Armor Flash ivj. Take some of that. We've been chugging it. We've been drinking it. Body Armor Flash IV is packed with electrolytes. Dave Portnoy
I did.
Josh Richards
I feel. I feel a lot better.
Brianna Chickenfry
You feel better?
Josh Richards
Yeah, I was. I was low on my vitamins.
Brianna Chickenfry
I think you were. So we needed some Body Armor Flash iv. It has great tasting flavors. We have strawberry, kiwi, tropical, tropical punch. Body Armor Flash IV gives your body the rehydration it needs to recover. So you can get yours at a local 711 or on Amazon today. This episode's brought to you by Body Armor Flash iv. Let's get into it. All right, guys. Welcome back to BFFs. We have a very special guest. We have Lil Nas X is your first podcast ever. You're an icon. We've been listening to you, watching you forever. We've talked about you on the show a bunch of times. Good. A lot of good things. We talked a little bit before. All positive. We love you.
Josh Richards
Sure.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, seriously, we're always. We're always team you. So we're really excited to have you here.
Dave Portnoy
So you guys have no negativity on the show?
Josh Richards
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, we. We shit talk talk for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Are you a shit talker?
Dave Portnoy
Not in, you know, public, but yeah. We all should talk a little bit, right?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, just a little. But we. We kind of get into it sometimes, but we try to play like Devil and Angel when we talk about things.
Josh Richards
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
So why do you guys call it best friends?
Josh Richards
Well, because the whole. The start of this podcast, we used to have someone called Dave Portnoy on this. You know who Dave is. And the dynamic between me and Dave was like, I'm a really young kid. He's really old. Weird matchup. It'd be weird for us to be friends. And so we kind of went off that and called it BFFs, because it's like we were the opposite of that. We didn't know each other at all.
Brianna Chickenfry
You were 40. What? 43. And you were 19.
Josh Richards
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
When we started the podcast, and then you guys. When did you guys get together?
Josh Richards
And then Bree joined in, like, four weeks into the start of the podcast. It wasn't like there was something missing when we were doing it. Just me and Dave. We needed the female perspective is what it was. So then Bri came in. Podcast flow was way better.
Dave Portnoy
Hated her, and left.
Josh Richards
No, no, no, no, no, no. We did the podcast together for, like, four years. All of us.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. And then just left.
Josh Richards
He just left this year. He was like, I'm too old to be talking about this young drama all the time.
Brianna Chickenfry
Like, he felt like a grandpa.
Josh Richards
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
That's sad.
Brianna Chickenfry
I know. We miss him.
Dave Portnoy
I miss him, too. I know I didn't see him on the show, but I miss him.
Brianna Chickenfry
I know, right?
Josh Richards
I think he misses us too. He said the last time he came on as, like, a guest kind of coming back, he was like, I've had no one to talk to about these things. I see drama on social media, and I'm just walking around my apartment. I got no one to talk to, so.
Dave Portnoy
Well, I have a surprise for you.
Josh Richards
All right, come on out.
Brianna Chickenfry
But you have your new single coming out.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, Yeah, I do.
Brianna Chickenfry
It's fire. I listened to it. It was amazing. Well, I listened to your Instagram video. Yeah, Yeah. A lot of the comments, it was cracking me up. It's like, he's finally being gay. Like, we're done edging, like, it's. He's finally here. I'm, like, so excited for it.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. I paused on homosexuality for a second.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, you took a little pause. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Making my return to it.
Brianna Chickenfry
I know it's been. It's been a little bit. I feel like when you were first introduced to the scene, you were, like, everywhere. And it was immediate. Like, you blew up fucking crazy when you first stepped out, which wasn't hard, like, to immediately start and you just blow the fuck up.
Dave Portnoy
Um, it. It wasn't really. It was definitely. It was a lot of fun. It was super exciting. But the main problem I had was I kind of got everything connected and. And I got every person that was around me from, like, the same period. And it was like, this fast, and I didn't have any time to settle and pick people like, that I wanted around me, you know? You know what I mean?
Josh Richards
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
So that, like, gave me the problem of being afraid to let people go around me, even though I'm like, okay, this is rand its course. You know what I mean? And that's, you know, that's why I kind of took, like, a really awkward pause between, like, like here and back in, like, 2021. You know what I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
So you.
Josh Richards
I didn't even realize it had been that long.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, time flies.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, yeah, it flies. And you were like, seriously, always in the news, always in, like, you were just. You were that guy. You still are, but it was crazy to just see you kind of stand. Step away. And I guess that's the reason why you just kind of had to figure yourself out. Your. The people you kept around you. Like your circle 100.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. But, you know, now everything's right.
Brianna Chickenfry
Good.
Dave Portnoy
I'm ready to, you know, show my ass. Pop. Pop my vajayjay a little bit.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yes. I want. I need that. Like, I feel like we need that. I want to see that vajayjay popped. I'm excited for it. Like, you see his, like, his. His little snippet when he's in the pink. He's. You're in the pink car. You got all the dudes around you. You're so back and even, like, dream boy. Like, what I love about you and I think what makes you so different from a lot of other artists is you bring, like, comedy into your art as well. Like, you.
Josh Richards
Yeah, I was gonna say, like, the level of how much freedom does your, like, PR team give you? Because it's got to be quite a bit, right? Because, like, you. It seems like you get free reign with the. The creative control. Like, you put in such a higher level of production value, I think, into your, like, promotion. Even if it's like, when the dream boys coming down and talking to you and, like, that whole, like, little bit you have going on, do you. Are you the one coming up with everything? Is your team helping you out? Are you having to go behind the team's back a little bit, post it? Like, what's that look like?
Dave Portnoy
I've never had to go behind anyone's back. I kind of just do my own thing, and my team kind of helps me out a lot here and there. Like, I'm very much in charge of my own storyline and My own story, and I want to kind of, like, keep it that way, no matter, like, what's happening. Even, like, in, like, my down days of just like, oh, I'm not sure exactly what to do, but I know I don't want to do what you want me to do, so. Yeah. Yeah.
Josh Richards
That's awesome.
Brianna Chickenfry
So it's you. It's awesome.
Dave Portnoy
It's me, it's me. But I'll never. You know, it takes a village.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, for sure.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, for sure.
Brianna Chickenfry
And, like, did you ever have, like, a crazy idea? Because you've done a lot of crazy shit and you've said a lot of crazy shit, like, in a good way, you're just, like, kind of out of pocket, which is why I think people are attracted to you and love you. But was there anything that you've ever pitched where your team was like, you can't do this for certain.
Dave Portnoy
And I cannot say it on here because you'd understand why they didn't want me to do it. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I've had some ideas that would maybe, like, too far, but I'm. I'm pretty much done with that era of forced, I don't know, kind of, like forcing things to happen.
Josh Richards
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
I just want to, like, naturally do it, put my music out, have fun, do my shit.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, yeah. Do you think, like, when you were doing, like, the crazy, outlandish shit, it really. It helped your career, like, to bring a bunch of eyes to it, whether it was negative or positive, for certain.
Dave Portnoy
And a lot of it, you know, there's still, like, a lot of authenticity there. Like, with, okay, this is what I want to do. Like, this is the vision in my head. I want to do this. But, you know, here and there, I'm just like, oh, this is maybe too much on my mental. You know what I mean? And, yeah. So I got to this place, I'm just like, okay, I'm not doing this shit anymore. I know I can make this work in other ways. And. Yeah. So here we are.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. Cause essentially, he didn't need all the crazy. You have bangers. Like, there was a lot of crazy shit surrounding.
Josh Richards
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
But I like to have fun. And that's the thing. A lot of people see my fun as, I don't know, like, too much disruption. But that's what art is. You know What I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
100%.
Dave Portnoy
You go out there, you make some fun, you ruffle some feathers here and there. But ultimately, you know, you do your thing. Yeah, do your thing. Shit you want to do, and it.
Brianna Chickenfry
Like, separates you from everyone else in your category.
Dave Portnoy
100%. And, you know, that's. That's a goal. You know, you want to be yourself as much as you can.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
No matter how hard that is sometimes.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. When you. Because when you first started, I don't think you were like 100%. I don't know, stepping into your sexuality and then, like, you did definitely not. Was. What was that like? Was that really scary for you or were you just. Or how did that come about where you were like, I'm going to own it. I'm going to, like, be who I really am.
Dave Portnoy
Um, I think even more gradually over time. Even to this day, I'm still just like, okay, now I can, like, kind of be even more myself now. Kind of let loose a little bit more. And it was like, gradual over time because I've like, I'm like this boy who was 17 and like, my parents, like, basement and didn't really have, like, much of a social life.
Josh Richards
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Holy shit.
Dave Portnoy
Didn't have much of a social life. And then it's like, boom. It's like now and everyone in the world knows me and it's like, okay, let's kind of keep it together. And it's like, I don't know, it's like you're holding a bunch of, like, coins in your. Your arms or something. Right. And try not to let them, like, fall out.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
And that's my personality. You know what I mean? Like, my personality. And then I'm like, you know what? Fuck it, I'm me. Like, you gonna fuck with me or you're not? You know, I mean, yeah, for sure.
Brianna Chickenfry
Seven. Like, how. So how the fuck did you start? Go. How did you go from 17 in your parents basement to this, like, phenomenon? Like, how did that happen?
Dave Portnoy
It actually started because of procrastination, actually.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay. Procrastination is good.
Dave Portnoy
Procrastination can lead you to some good places. So I was supposed to be taking my class in college because I had got a C in math and I was a computer science major. You cannot get a C. A computer.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay. Smart.
Dave Portnoy
But, but, but the thing is, I thought was gonna be able to catch up with it, but in college you only get so many assignments. I was like, what? We're only getting 10 assignments? You don't even give me a chance to get this up. So I was supposed to be taking that class.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
And boom, I get on YouTube. I'm like, I'm bored. Let's make a song. And then I was like, okay. I'm gonna put this on Twitter. And people were liking this song. And then, boom, four songs later, I'm really into it. I'm just like, you know what? I fucking love this. This is what I want to do with my life. And then, blah, blah, blah, doobity doo doo, 13th song. Then I'm the Horseman and.
Josh Richards
Yeah, so there were 12 songs before old Town Road.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Josh Richards
Yeah. Okay.
Dave Portnoy
Lucky number 13. Taylor Swift was right.
Brianna Chickenfry
She's always right. So what. What does that look like, though? You just get a call from Hollywood, like, okay, yeah, Billy Rice Iris. Yeah, like, how. What the fuck?
Dave Portnoy
It's. It's me. It was me, like, posting my song and, like, a bunch of memes and stuff.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay.
Dave Portnoy
Over and over, and then getting, like, friends to, like, join in. And I was also just, like, really on top of, like, the. The meme shit on, like, social media and stuff. And then, boom, TikTok starts to, like, bumble, and then this becomes, like, this phenomenon on there. And then it's like, Twitter, TikTok. Then it's like, boom, the world. And then getting calls from every label in the same week.
Josh Richards
Yeah, because I feel like you really were in the middle of this, like, perfect storm where, like, Covet was going on. Tick Tock was becoming massive. And then, because you were one of the first people that I think had their music go so viral on Tick Tock to a point where it was like, yeah, right, because there was, like, a couple people. But you really, I think, also used that. Like, there was the Arizona song or guy as well that had something blow up. But, like, I don't think he capitalized on it the same way you did. A negative. Not in a negative. It just look at that. Look at the statistics. You know what I'm saying? Like, you were able to go on and, like, continue to capitalize on this. And I think to your point, you understood the meme memation of it. All, right? Like, you were able to go and take that song, put it into so many different places on Tik Tok, that starts blowing up and trending on there as Tick Tock is starting to trend. It's this, like, perfect storm where you were just able to ride that, which was pretty crazy to see.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, you actually knew how to work social media. I feel like a lot of artists, like, they hire teams to, like, come in and run their socials, but you, you just, like, you like Twitter. You were funny. You are like. You knew what you were doing, which was cool. And then Billy Ray Cyrus. What the.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, yeah. That's really sick.
Brianna Chickenfry
It wasn't really sick.
Dave Portnoy
How did that come. That's enough old town road talk.
Josh Richards
Yeah, get move on.
Dave Portnoy
Let's move to the. Let's move to, like, the drugs and stuff. Like, you want to ask me if I'm on drugs or something?
Josh Richards
Yeah, sure.
Dave Portnoy
You on drugs? No, I'm not.
Josh Richards
All right.
Brianna Chickenfry
People thought you were. Well, okay, so these are the things that we talked about on BFFs before with you. So we had, like old headlines. This one was crazy. The Lil nas X boycotts. BT Jack Harlow makes a statement. So this was June 20, 20, 22.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
I love this. Recently, Lil Nas X has been more vocal about his history with the BET Awards after receiving no nominations, which is fudgeing crazy after having some of the biggest songs of the year. So you tweeted. Thanks. Thank you. BET Awards and outstanding. Zero nominations again. Black excellence. What was this like, Talk us through it.
Dave Portnoy
Jesus. Well, honestly, I'll be honest, I think I crashed out of it right there. I. I think. I think genuinely I should have just been grateful for all this that was already happening in my life and, like, let that pass through. But I. It was like a moment of I'm sick of this. You know what I mean? I guess because it's like, you know, we all say like, oh, I don't need to be accepted by everybody, but. But no, I do want to, like, be accepted, especially like within, like my own community, you know, So I feel like going there, performing a song like for the first time, like, that was the first place I performed, like, call me by your name, you know, And I don't know, I thought, like, it would give me, like, at least some kind of, like, leverage where they, like, show me some love. So. So it definitely, like, hurt a bit. And, you know, I'm usually like, I don't give a fuck, but. But, but, yeah. And that made me, like, say something about it. So.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, I mean, I. If I were in your shoes, I probably would say crazier shit. Like, I don't know, having that, like, pressure on you, what that would feel like. And then to feel, not like snubs, but like, you said, like, that's your community. You performed and you're like, actually having some of the biggest hits I could see. That's a valid crash out.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, it's definitely like, I don't. I don't regret it, but it's like, where I am right now. I wouldn't do it. I'd just be like, you know what it is, what it is. I'm not dead. It's not going to kill me. There's more opportunities elsewhere. Go where you love, you know What I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
100%.
Josh Richards
It must have felt good though to see a friend rock the Jack shirt there. Like, like, what's that friendship with Jack?
Dave Portnoy
Like me and Jack, we're kind of just like, I guess like very like cordial. Like we hit each other up every now and then. I really love like what he's doing. Like, I love the new songs he's putting out and whatnot. And I like, I like how he carries himself and like how he treats his private life. You know what I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
I'm just like, let me edge into, ease into that a little bit more. They don't need to know everything about me.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, well, when you come up so fast, I feel like you kind of want to be in everyone's faces and you didn't really know how to, I wouldn't know how to treat it. So you say everything, you do everything and you make everything public.
Josh Richards
Yeah, but you said it happened at 17, young.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. And then you, then you take a step back, you're like, fuck. Regardless of what I say, say you have that thing in your head where like I want everyone to like me. But then you find out that's never going to be a thing. There's always going to be people that don't like you that talk. And then it's like, okay, maybe I do need to be private. Maybe this is why all these celebrities don't say where they are, what they're doing. It's like a double edged sword.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, I think, I think that's what these last like few years where I've had time to reflect have really taught me the most, you know, like, let's take some time for yourself. Let's make sure you keep your family life as your family life. And it's not like the world's and it's, and it's, let's do things alone. You know what I mean? Let's go to the movies alone. Let's go to get some food alone. Let's really like practice self love and making sure when we step back out there, we're stepping back out there for us and not for the external validation of it all. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
I feel like as a performer because sometimes we, we go through it too. Just you just your job is people looking at you and like ingesting you and you want to almost do everything for them. It's like you want to do it for the viewer, and then it kind of gives you, like, a warped perception of yourself. So I think that's really important for you to do that and want to do things for you. And it will show in your art. It has already.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Because now you're, like, full. Like, you're. You.
Josh Richards
It's like you're coming up more as yourself now. When you're doing those videos, when you're doing in those trailers, when you do the music. I mean, when you're popping that pussy.
Dave Portnoy
Like, it's like you're not popping that puss.
Brianna Chickenfry
It's like, this is what he wanted to do. This is him. Like, it's really cool to watch.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. Yeah, for sure. I really hope the world sees it and understands, you know, that I really only come from a genuine place. There's no ulterior motives or anything.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, I think you can feel that. I mean, your energy just is. I feel like you're just like a warm hug. It really. It's good. Energy is just good. It's like, it's really nice. It's refreshing because you meet a lot of people in this industry and you're like, oh, you're a little scary. And it's funny because people, when you went through the phase where people were like, lil Nas is the devil. He's satanic. And it's the opposite.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Meeting you now, it's. It's completely different than I think a lot of people would perceive online or whatnot. But that. That is a part of, I think, so many people's careers as you watch them transition into different versions of themselves as they come more into themselves. Like, we continue to say on this, like, you grow up online, people are going to see change, and they got to realize that. I feel like sometimes people don't realize how young the artists are that they follow or how, like, new to the space or the environment that they are, and they want to, like, judge them on that one action or a couple actions. Right. When they begin. You got to let people evolve. Or else what? What is the point of. Yeah, any of this. Right. Isn't that what we're all trying to do is evolve and become better people and learn who we are and be happy in this world, like, 1 million percent.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. I definitely get it, too, though. You know, like, a lot of people's, like, perception of me, it's based off of the things they know me for the most and Fair. Yeah. And that's what a lot of people know me for. And I Can't, like, be like, oh, no. How do they know me for this? Because I did those things. I don't regret doing those things. Just so there's no confusion. I did what I did. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Josh Richards
Well, that's what we always say. It's like we're the ones that opened ourselves up to it. Right. We post ourselves online. We gotta be able to take it if we're gonna give it.
Dave Portnoy
Right.
Brianna Chickenfry
If you get mad when that's the biggest thing, it's like you knew what.
Josh Richards
It was gonna happen. Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
You also just gotta, like, focus on the good. I mean, like, there's a lot of people. Most people, like, you know, really, like, fuck with me when I'm out in public. You know, people like, showing me love. I'm not, like, getting, like, stink faces. I mean, every now and then.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, but that's the funniest thing all. It's like the hate is always loud. It's especially on the Internet, so loud.
Dave Portnoy
And in person, in person, it's just.
Brianna Chickenfry
It's all.
Dave Portnoy
Sometimes. Sometimes it's those exact same people that will be talking.
Brianna Chickenfry
I know. Can I get a picture? Well, it's like they jump on, like, the popular. Whatever the bandwagon is. It's like.
Dave Portnoy
It's.
Brianna Chickenfry
It's mob mentality. So it's like, oh, if everyone's agreeing with this or saying something about this, I want to hop on it. I want to be a part of the popular thing. 100 and it's way cooler when people have their own opinion and they're, like, actually critically thinking. So whatever. Fuck them. I hated when you were going through all of that shit because I just think. I think you're so cool.
Dave Portnoy
Thank you.
Brianna Chickenfry
You're welcome.
Dave Portnoy
I appreciate that. Yeah, I think it. I think it was for the best, though. It really helped me look inward. So. Hey.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. What was that. What was that time like, like, when all of it was like, the satanic or like, Lil Nas is the devil? What was that time like for you? Like, just as a person behind closed doors, I guess.
Dave Portnoy
I mean, to be honest. I mean, if we're talking about the very, like, beginning of it, like, yeah, like during, like, the call me by your name error, it was. It was kind of fine because it was. I was able to distract myself with all the other stuff that was. All the good shit that was happening. It was like, okay, my. My music is doing well and, you know, my fan base is growing and the love is coming, you know, at. At with opposites of all the hate that's coming. I mean.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. So, yeah, those songs were huge. Like, call me by your name was huge.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. You know, it was just like, almost just, like, focused on my album and stuff. I'm just like, okay, let's keep moving. Let's put this next song out. Yeah. I feel like it really hit more like last year, you know?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Because it was just like a kind of, like, down period, and I was kind of, like, changing teams and. And my life was completely being moved around and stuff. So I, like, had like, a lot of time to, like, think, and I was like, damn, am I a bad person? Should I have not done that? You know what I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
And I'm just like, montero, relax. It is what it is. Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Well, it's when you have that, because you are moving so fast, and once you finally get downtime to, like, reflect.
Dave Portnoy
Then you're, like, sitting with.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. You're like, wait, and I fuck, did I fuck up? But then again, it's just the, like. It's the shit cycle of, like, remind. Reminding yourself of what people said, the bad shit, the negative. So then you're like, wait, do I think that or am I just feeding into it? Yeah, it's shitty. But I mean, fuck it. Now you have a cool, fun song coming out, and it's like, what?
Josh Richards
I feel like this is a whole new era.
Brianna Chickenfry
It's a whole new era for you.
Dave Portnoy
Fucking excited. It's going to be so amazing.
Brianna Chickenfry
You can feel it.
Dave Portnoy
None of the hate is going to get my attention.
Brianna Chickenfry
No, no, no, no, no. Do. Do you think, like, there will be hate with this new era for you, or do you just, like, kind of see? You think so?
Dave Portnoy
I think hate comes with anything happening. Yeah. Anything successful or anything good that's happening, you could. There's. People hated Martin Luther King. You know what I mean? People hate, I don't know, Gandhi or who else is, like, considered good?
Josh Richards
I don't hate Gandhi. I. Mother Teresa, maybe. Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
I don't know if I hate her.
Josh Richards
No, no, no, no.
Dave Portnoy
Oh, my God.
Brianna Chickenfry
I'm joking. I'm joking. I love her. I love everybody.
Dave Portnoy
You do not love everybody.
Brianna Chickenfry
I don't. I hate so many people, but I, like. I love Mother Teresa, obviously, but that's true. So with this new song, was there any inspiration or, like, who. Who were you, like, taking, I don't know. Not notes from. But who are you looking to in, like, this space right now that you kind of, like, really admire?
Dave Portnoy
I think. I think a lot of this new era is inspired by a lot of the things that I grew up on, like, back in Atlanta, like the. The Southern, like, rap music. And also, like, back when I was a kid when I would watch, like, Disney and stuff, I was talking about earlier, like, just, like, the fun of all of that. You know what I mean? I guess you'll see that more once you see more of the rollout and stuff, but also just like, Nicki Minaj, who. Who I actually, like, had a fan account and stuff for.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, you had fan. I had Justin Bieber fan account, yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. And, you know, like, it's very much inspired by my childhood and, you know, like, my younger life. I really want to let my inner child, like, shine this era. And I don't want any darkness over, and I don't want any. I don't want, like, any thing that feels negative for me. You know what I mean? So, yeah, it's bright, it's colorful. It's pop. It's love. That's. That's. That's what I really want. That's what I really want to do for this time around. Love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
Brianna Chickenfry
I love it. Yeah. I love that you said pop. The pop girlies are on top. Like, pop is so back. Do you like pop?
Dave Portnoy
Of course.
Brianna Chickenfry
Pop is so.
Dave Portnoy
She's fresh, and she's in so many different areas.
Brianna Chickenfry
I know. It's everywhere. It's, like, coming through country. It's coming through. Every single thing is. It's pop now. And I was a hater. I was a pop hater, and now I'm like, it's all. I listen to it. I'm like, right now, I'm really, really obsessed with Lola Young. Like, she's one of my.
Dave Portnoy
Oh, my God. I just love her entire aura, everything about her.
Brianna Chickenfry
She's so dope. Like, she reminds me of you in a sense of, like, 100%. She's just her.
Dave Portnoy
She's so her.
Josh Richards
She doesn't give a. Unapologetically.
Brianna Chickenfry
Unapologetically. Like, the way she dresses, the way she talks, her makeup, her music.
Josh Richards
Yes.
Dave Portnoy
I like her performance videos on Instagram and stuff.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, I love her. I think, like, she is just so cool. So she's my favorite pop girl.
Dave Portnoy
Who's your favorite with her one day?
Brianna Chickenfry
I think you. I think you're going to.
Dave Portnoy
Who's my favorite pop girl at the moment? At the moment?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Well, Doji, even though she's like rap, but she's kind of taken over, like, the pop space.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
I'm really happy to see her shine. You know what I mean, I've been watching her like do her thing for a long time and kind of like bubble under and it's like now she's like being embraced by the world and it's like really, really amazing to see, you know, this, this dark skinned woman who, who like raps and so like true to her craft, being all over the world, you know what I mean? Like collabing with K pop artists.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, I know. Crazy.
Josh Richards
And she's been doing it forever too. There's videos she was posting five, six years ago, like in her, in her bedroom, freestyling. Right. Like so this has been, she's been going for so long and now that she's finally getting the moment, it's great.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, like it's like her moment.
Dave Portnoy
It's beautiful. It's, it's inspiring.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
How do you see that story and not be inspired, you know what I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
To like, it's so cliche but like never give up because she's been doing it forever and now she's a cliches.
Dave Portnoy
For a reason though, you know?
Brianna Chickenfry

Dave Portnoy
Who's Actually, I've met a lot of people, but I don't think. I don't think many people, like, helped me.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, I don't. I don't think so. I don't know. But maybe that's just a lot. How the music industry is.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
I mean, I try to make sure I can do that for certain people, like friends and stuff who are getting into music and stuff. I try to do that, but, yeah, I don't think I was. I don't think I had that. And that's fine, you know?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
So would you say it's a. Like an intimidating space or a really competitive space where you. You think maybe people want to help you, but they look at you as competition? Maybe.
Dave Portnoy
I think it's a bit of both. It's like the people on the. People on top want to work with the people on top. People, like, in the middle and work with people in the middle and. And the people on top, everybody want to work with everybody. That's, like, winning and, like, doing their thing and, you know, I guess I get it. You know, it's not. It's nothing wrong with that. You should do what you want to, what you feel is best for your career at the end of the day. Yeah. But, I mean, overall, I still think it's very. Everybody's still in their own space. You know, it's like, sub, sub, sub, sub, sub. I'm over here, you over there, you're over there. It's not like. Not everybody's, like, holding hands and going to, like, the secret meetings together and shit, except, like, Oscar parties and shit where everybody links up.
Josh Richards
But yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Everyone's kind of just doing their own thing.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Josh Richards
Did you help Doja perfect the meow on the carpet, or did she help you with the meow on the carpet? Who. Who was helping who with that?
Dave Portnoy
Do. I mean, she's meant for Meowen the cat. The last name is Cat. Like, yeah, yeah. It wasn't a competition. I couldn't. I couldn't.
Josh Richards
Was that a joke that you guys talked about beforehand, like, yo, we got to do this on the card? Was that, like, a darer. A lost bed?
Dave Portnoy
She was going to show up as a cat, right When I. I was. I think I was on the way there, and I was, like, on Instagram or something, and I saw her as a cat. I was like, no way. I was so pissed off.
Josh Richards
So how.
Brianna Chickenfry
How far out did you plan that outfit? Like, what. What goes into that?
Dave Portnoy
If I'm being honest, a few days Shut the. I'm not kidding, cuz. It was something else. It was something else at first. And I was like, ah, I hate this picture of.
Brianna Chickenfry
It is so like, you were head to toe.
Dave Portnoy
Don't show me that.
Brianna Chickenfry
It was. Oh, don't show me that.
Josh Richards
You don't. You don't like that you did it?
Dave Portnoy
No, I. I love it, but I don't want to see it in front of people.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay, okay, we won't.
Josh Richards
We won't show you. We'll just look at it.
Brianna Chickenfry
It's a race from my mind. It's a race from my mind. So that was.
Dave Portnoy
Oh, my God. I have to tell you a story about that. Okay, so I was in that outfit, right? And I remember going inside of the Met, because that was at the Met. I went inside the Met and I saw Bad Bunny. I was like, yo, nice to meet you, Bad Bunny. I say, finally meet you. And then, you know, we talked for, like, a few minutes or so. And then, I don't know. Bad, but I'm not going to spill his business. But it was nothing crazy, by the way. Just so I walked. I walked away. And I could never get the picture out of my head that I was walking away and, like, Mad Bunny's, like, sitting my, like, bare ass, like, covered in, like, chrome paint.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, it's just the cheeks.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. I, like, literally woke up in the middle of the night thinking about, like, haunts you.
Josh Richards
He probably woke up in the middle of the night thinking about it as well. Probably both of you.
Brianna Chickenfry
What was that, your first Met Gala?
Dave Portnoy
That was the second one. That was the second one.
Brianna Chickenfry
What was it like to get invited to the Met Gala for the first time?
Dave Portnoy
It was sick. I was wondering what they were going to do. I was like, is this where we're going to, like, drink the baby blood or something? Is this the actual thing that happens there? But yeah, it was really. It was really dope, though. I never expected to get to such a spot like that so fast, you know?
Brianna Chickenfry
I mean, it was like, overnight, I feel. You were just like, at the Met Gala.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, I was just like, oh, I'm doing the Met again. This is cool. And I'm naked for some reason, and I'm meow. I'm only meowing. I thought they would never invite me after that again. I was. I was like, yeah, they're not. I'm like, I'm not getting here next year. But you were. Behold.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
I think that's, like, what the Met is, is to get those, like, insane moments out of it like what? Jared Leto with the, with the cat. He was a cat one year.
Dave Portnoy
He was a cat too. Yeah, he was an actual cat. He was a cat.
Brianna Chickenfry
He was a crazy cat. Cost.
Dave Portnoy
Oh yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
He took his crazy cat head off. Like, I feel like it's there for those moments and when you were just meowing into a microphone. It's fucking awesome. So did you plan that, like in the moment too?
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, I think that was more in a moment. I mean, I'm very obsessed with spectacles still. You know what I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
I like things that, that make people go, you know what I mean? Or just like, just some, some reaction, you know?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Like this makes me feel this thing. This makes me feel that thing. Oh, that doesn't usually happen here. This doesn't go there. You know what I mean? So. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
That was awesome. I love the little cat.
Josh Richards
You gotta like making people say what the fuck? It's always funny.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. I mean, and then people talk about you. Whether it's good or bad, it's just, it's cool. It's kind of the point. It's gotta have fun with the space. Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
You got to have.
Brianna Chickenfry
And like you said back to you saying like being disruptive, it's like it's part of your art.
Dave Portnoy
So yeah, 100%, you got to do. I don't know what it's going to make people entertained, I guess. You know, also stuff that you want to do. I wanted to do that. I wanted to do that mainly because I was like in this era of like, like, like that, like that whole like 2023, 2022. I was like, okay, I want to do things that I'm going to feel scared to do and feel embarrassed about and I want to go through with it anyway because I want to like train myself to be okay and embarrassing, anxiety ridden, like, situations. And it's helped me a lot. Yeah. You know that.
Brianna Chickenfry
So yeah, that's hard to do. And we were talking fucking hard a little bit before, like we started podcasting. We were talking about like, you have a lot of anxiety and you're just like pushing yourself to. You're basically giving yourself more anxiety. But it's helping, you're saying.
Dave Portnoy
But that's the thing though. I feel like my anxiety has decreased so much over the past year. Like it takes time to like get over the hump. But I feel like I'm very much like, you know, far more, more far along than I was before. You know what I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Like even just like right now, I wasn't able to, like, talk in interviews, like, freely as before. I guess I was just like, oh, I don't want to slip up and say like the wrong shit. But now I'm just like, hey, if I do, I'll be fine. I'll figure it out. I mean, I've been through worse shit. You know what I mean?
Josh Richards
Yeah, for sure.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Josh Richards
Well, you're doing a great job so far talking well.
Brianna Chickenfry
I know, it's great that. So you would say just like pushing yourself into maybe like, anxiety ridden situations has helped you, like, get over those humps. Because I think a lot of people struggle with anxiety. And to hear like someone of your stature also struggled with it, like, you can help a lot of people.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, I think, I think it's very important to do, but also still give yourself space when it feels like just way too much. Yeah. Like, back the fuck up and go and sit down and breathe. But I do a lot of, like, talking to myself, like actually like talking to myself out loud and say, okay, what is wrong? Why do you feel this way? Who are you afraid to be embarrassed in front of right now? What are you so shy about right now? And then it's like, you got to come back to the idea that we're all, like, shy. We all get embarrassed, we all get self conscious. The prettiest people, the most talented people, the, the most, you know, star athletes, the most, like, braggadoci, like, type of people, Everybody. It's impossible. And I'm not saying that, oh, my anxiety's gone. I'm free. You know, I still get anxiety, but I just, I know how to handle it better now.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
So, yeah, I need to try that.
Brianna Chickenfry
Like, talking out loud because it almost makes you feel, like, silly. It's like, why? Who are you afraid to be embarrassed of right now?
Dave Portnoy
Like, I feel like it's really you talking to, like, your inner child. You know what I mean? Because it's like a lot of the stuff you're afraid of, all this stuff, like, stems from your childhood. So it's like, hey, little me, what. What are you afraid of right now? What makes you shy about this thing? You know, even with that video that you said you saw, you know what I mean? For a minute I was scared to be more, like flamboyant and stuff. And it's like, oh, because I don't want to feel, like, embarrassed in front of this group of people and that. And it was like, so I don't, I don't care anymore. It's like I'm like, You okay to do it? I give myself. I literally go in the mirror. I'm like, I give you permission to do it. I give you permission to look and be embarrassed about that thing. Just go through with it.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, that's something that I always think of, too. Like, when we're children. When we're kids, we're, like, so fearless. We're not afraid of anything, nothing. We're everything that we want to be in. You think, like, you get older just because of age, but it's because as you get older, like, it's the society pressures on you. So all that we're thinking about is, like, is this society pressure. So just take yourself out of it. I'm a kid again. I can do it all. I'm not scared. So. Yeah, that's. That's good advice.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, that's really good advice.
Dave Portnoy
Thank you. Thank you.
Brianna Chickenfry
So with the new song coming out, is there anything you want people to know about it? Like, anything that went on behind scenes or like.
Dave Portnoy
Oh, my God. Yeah, actually. So this is, like. This is the hardest thing to do for the reason. Because, you know, these last few years have been, like, really, like, tough for me, like, trying to figure out, okay, like, what the fuck do I do here? Where am I going? Who are my people? What do I want around me? What the fuck don't I want around me? And. And I had, like, really, like. I fell into, like, this relationship, and I was, like, in this really great relationship. And I felt like, you know, this is everything. I am so in love, and I still do love the person. And then, you know, I realized that it was at a place where this person kind of, like, also was filling the void of the external validation I was usually getting from the world. And once we, like, broke up, it was, like, really hard. And I literally almost missed the video shoot. I skipped the plane. I wasn't going to go.
Brianna Chickenfry
For the single.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. For the song and the video. I fucking love it. It's fucking tea. I know the world's gonna love it, but it was gonna be. I wasn't gonna be there. Cause it was shot in a completely different country. And because I, like, spent, like, four days at home, like, crying and bawling my eyes out and just trying to get myself together. And I'm just like, you know what? I know it's been really hard, and I know you want to give up. Let's just. Let's just go, and whatever happens, happens. And so I went there and I. I got there and shot the video, and things have Been, like, pretty much on and up since then. You know what I mean? It was like that darkest hour before dawn kind of moment. You know what I mean?
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Oh, shit. Well, I'm sorry you went through that. That stinks.
Dave Portnoy
Could you imagine taking every other 20 minutes to go and cry in the bathroom during the video shoot? Everybody's like. Everybody's like, can we finish?
Brianna Chickenfry
I have to cry.
Dave Portnoy
They're like, oh, can I just. I just need a cry break for. Yeah.
Josh Richards
Were you telling them that you were going for a cry, or was it just a lot of bathroom?
Dave Portnoy
I was like, oh, no. I just.
Brianna Chickenfry
Too much water.
Josh Richards
Yeah, drink a lot of. Yeah, drink a lot of water on the plane.
Dave Portnoy
So how long ago did you shoot that shot? In December.
Brianna Chickenfry
December. Okay. So, like, how long did it kind of take you to get out of that hole of, like, the breakup and coming into yourself and pause.
Dave Portnoy
It took. Took me. I feel like it took a few weeks. And it was also kind of like I was still, like, contacting the person for a minute, and then, you know, I was like, okay, we just need to, like, not talk at all, because.
Josh Richards
No contact.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. And then. That makes all the sense.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah.
Dave Portnoy
Makes all the sense in the world.
Brianna Chickenfry
Hard to do no contact, though.
Josh Richards
But if you don't do it, it's. It's just drawing the situation out. And now you experience, like, a little less pain, but just for a lot longer. And then the big pain still gonna come at the end. You just.
Brianna Chickenfry
You can't.
Josh Richards
You're just delaying it. Yeah, you're just delaying.
Dave Portnoy
You can't get.
Josh Richards
Never worth it.
Brianna Chickenfry
But no contact is like.
Dave Portnoy
It's like. But I mean, it's over to you.
Josh Richards
I know, Rip the band aid off kind of theory, you know? Yeah, no contact.
Brianna Chickenfry
Right.
Josh Richards
But.
Dave Portnoy
But it was also kind of my first time. I actually completely went through with that. It's like, okay, I'm not checking the Instagram. I'm not going through the old pictures. I am focusing on what's right in front of me. I'm focusing on my music. I'm focusing on my magic, on myself, and healing, like, my inner child. Because I feel like the worst of it is kind of like ego, you know, and feeling like, damn, oh, why me? You know what I mean? Then it's kind of like, hey, if that happened to you, maybe there's something better on the way for you, you know, because that's happened to me multiple times in life. It was like, oh, I'm fucking up in college. Oh, here's fucking music. And it's like, okay, I came out the closet. I'm not sure what to do. Well, let's put it into the music. You know, it's like, continuously, like, trying to make the best out of a situation that now looks grim.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, well, it's like stepping stones sometimes. It really is. And it depends on how you look at it. Like, you could have been like, I'm not doing the video shoot. I'm gonna cry. I'm a bitch. My heart's broken. Or you can be.
Dave Portnoy
All those things are true, but I'm still doing the video.
Brianna Chickenfry
Exactly. Or you could be like, no, I want to go fucking do it. And I want to cry while I.
Dave Portnoy
Do it, but I want to do it. But I want to cry while I do it. A lot.
Brianna Chickenfry
I'm going to cry a lot. But you still fucking did it. So that's.
Dave Portnoy
That's all that matters, 1 million percent.
Brianna Chickenfry
Can you tell us a little about the music video?
Dave Portnoy
No. You're going to see it. You're going to see it.
Brianna Chickenfry
Okay. I'm excited. I'm like, I want to. I want to see it now. So do we have, like, a lot more music coming out or are we just focusing on the single?
Dave Portnoy
Are you kidding? So I've barely released any music the past few years. Like, I know a few singles here and there, and I've been stocking up and loading up, and I'm about to. To let it fly.
Brianna Chickenfry
You're letting it rip. Tommy Gun on our ass. Oh, fun, fun. I'm excited, too. It's been really cool to, like. I don't know, you've been gone, and it's like you're dangling in front of us. You're back. It's like, there he is. Oh, my gosh.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. This is, like, my first, like, kind of like, interview maybe in a very long time.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah, 100%. Thank you.
Dave Portnoy
And it feels, like, very new, and that's why I really wanted to do it. So. Thank you guys for having me also, by the way.
Brianna Chickenfry
Yeah. I mean, we're so excited to have you. We're. We want to have, like, more musical. We've. We kind of, like, before, we were sticking to, like, the Internet drama shit. And we were, like, really, like. We talked in the beginning. We were like, shit talkers.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
But it's really cool to. I don't know, we've grown our space just kind of like how you have. Where we want to sit down with people we actually, like, really value and care about instead of just, like, shit talking and getting to know about, like, the artist behind the music. So it's really cool.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah. Sick and cool. I don't know. What do you want me say to that? You want me to say something?
Brianna Chickenfry
I just, like. I just wanted to tell you it's cool to have you on, you know?
Dave Portnoy
Let me say something. I can say something.
Brianna Chickenfry
Like, what would you say?
Dave Portnoy
I say, like, I'd be like, you know what? I wouldn't say anything. I just feel like I nod my head and I'd say, yeah, the double watch.
Brianna Chickenfry
You always wear double watches?
Dave Portnoy
No, I'm really into G shocks lately, so some. I literally had four on the other.
Brianna Chickenfry
You have four watches on, dude?
Dave Portnoy
Yes. I love G shocks. I wanted the one so bad in sixth grade, and I couldn't, like, get.
Brianna Chickenfry
Stuff like, everyone had g shocks in 6th grade. These are G shocks?
Dave Portnoy
Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
This, like, the ice out one is.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, this one's iced out.
Brianna Chickenfry
Wait. Sick. You're bringing G shocks back?
Dave Portnoy
G shock. We need to do a collab. You hear that? G shock.
Brianna Chickenfry
Give it to him. Give it to him. Well, do you have any other questions for Lil Nas?
Josh Richards
What was one? Oh, I'd seen a video of someone throwing a sex toy on stage. Yeah. Was that that. There were a lot of fans that thought that was planned. There was a lot of people that thought it was bad because music cut off at, like, a perfect time. Was that, like, another one of your fun, like, you know, let's make a moment here? Or was that completely just a natural thing that happened?
Dave Portnoy
There was music stopping, but that's because the music naturally stops right there. But that wasn't my penis. That was still thrown on stage. That was. I didn't know about that.
Josh Richards
All right, all right there. You heard it here first.
Brianna Chickenfry
It was.
Josh Richards
It was not his.
Brianna Chickenfry
It was authentic, and it was not his penis.
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, that was authentic and real.
Brianna Chickenfry
For sure.
Josh Richards
Well, I think that was the only other question I had. Way to leave it off on a weird spot, but that's how it get. Yeah. Yeah.
Brianna Chickenfry
Well, this is, like, your first interview in a while. Is there anything you want to say for your, like, hiatus? Why you kind of were gone or just, like, what's next for you?
Dave Portnoy
I wasn't gone willingly, but while I was gone, I understand why the universe had me where I was, you know, And I really needed a lot of time to sit with myself and reflect on what I wanted and how I wanted to move forward and what I truly love and what I don't. And I felt like I was doing for everybody else. So moving forward. I'm making sure my self love is number one on my list before any of this other shit. And I'm excited and I know it's going to be grand and it's going to be big and it's going to be full of dreams being fulfilled and it's going to be full of love.
Brianna Chickenfry
That was inspiring.
Josh Richards
That was. Those are good final words.
Brianna Chickenfry
Those are good final words. And listen to his new song right now.
Dave Portnoy
And listen to my new song right now. Plural. Right now.
Brianna Chickenfry
Plural. And the video, when does the video come out?
Dave Portnoy
Yeah, videos coming out the same night.
Brianna Chickenfry
Same night. Okay, so it will be out when this comes out?
Dave Portnoy
Yes, yes.
Brianna Chickenfry
So it's all out right now. Go watch.
Josh Richards
Go listen. Go watch.
Dave Portnoy
Go watch it right now. Go listen.
Brianna Chickenfry
You are seriously a light. I'm so excited that you're back and I'm sad that you left the space but it seems like it was warranted for yourself or like your mental and I think it's just another stepping stone.
Dave Portnoy
And now to happen.
Brianna Chickenfry
You're gonna go. You're gonna go. Look at him. Look at him shine.
Dave Portnoy
Okay, guys, thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Josh Richards
Yeah, yeah. Thank you, thank you.
