It's your pal Michael McMillan and we have something quite delightful for y' all this week. It's a deep dive supercut. We haven't done one of these in a very long time. I think it's been. I think the only one we've ever done, aside from this one, is our Roswell supercut from Monroe four years ago. Five years ago. So this one is of our Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO Invasion series that we did with Steve Berg about a year ago. Edited together now for the first time as one long episode. But wait, there's even more. This super cut includes the bonus part 33 that was previously only available on BCC the other side over@bcc.supercast.com so if you've only heard parts 1 and 2 from here on the free feed, there's a whole part three, an epilogue if you will, about more bigfoots and and UFOs in Pennsylvania. So we've gone back, we've trimmed a little bit out of each episode so this, this the supercut will flow a little bit more naturally. But get excited because we have a super sized episode chock full of high strangeness clocking in at almost three hours long. So eat up Club Scouts. Now this will be an audio only special but if you enjoy watching BCC on YouTube, we will be unlocking that full bonus episode, part three, the Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO Invasion 1974 with Steve Berg over on the BCC YouTube channel and I will include a link to that in the show notes. So sit back, relax and enjoy this feature length presentation of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO invasion supercut.

It's bigfoot collectors club with michael and riley. I know a story of highest rangeness or two. Let's do this.
A
Hello everyone and welcome to Bigfoot Collectors Club. The show where we talk to amazing guests about their personal paranormal history and share stories of high strangeness. High strangeness.
C
Hi strangeness.
A
Hello. Hey. I'm your host, Michael McMillan. With me always is your wizard of waveforms.
C
Ooh, I like that. Riley Bray.
A
That was submitted on BCC the Other side by Derek Cole.
C
Oh, hey, Derek.
A
Artist extraordinary, great one, Derek. If you have a title for Riley, please shoot it to us. Comment on Bigfoot Collectors Club, the Other side and we'll put it up there. Or email us@bigfootcollectorsclubgmail.com. whatever you want to do. Also speaking of Derek Cole, little tease news coming up soon.
C
Oh yeah, big, big news, exciting news.
A
That's all I'm gonna say. Joining us in the virtual clubhouse this week is actor, comedian and host of High Strangeness Podcast Club. Scouts of all timelines. Mr. Steve Berg is back.
B
It's good to see you guys.
A
So good to see you. Steve, how are you? How are things in Nebraska?
B
Going well? Going well, man. Can't complain. You know, I mean the, you know, I mean, I, I, there's, well, you know, I mean, personally I'm doing okay. The world completely falling apart.
C
There's plenty to complain about.
B
Yeah, yeah, we're not doing that right now though.
A
Yeah, no, we're only going to complain about incomplete episodes because this is the first of a Deep Dive series that we're going to get into. So we're ending this one on a cliffhanger, everybody. But I'm excited because Steve Berg is going to be joining us for the first time. I think any guest has joined us for a multi part Deep Dive series. How about that, Mr. Berg?
B
Not too bad.
A
Now Steve, I must ask you because like one of the figures we're going to, the, the, the main figure we're going to discuss other than Bigfoot in this series. You are a boots on the ground investigator in Nebraska in your hometown of Omaha.
B
Yeah, I mean like I do some, you know, like it's not like a,
A
I think if you do some, some doing it all.
B
Okay, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I just didn't want to say it, you know, I don't want to mislead People. But I am. Yeah. You know, I'm currently looking into a bigfoot case, the habit, and the Lawrence and guard botanical gardens in Omaha.
A
Okay.
B
Which is. So it's an urban bigfoot case, which I think is extra spicy.
A
City Biggie. City Biggie.
B
I've never heard that, and I love it. Yeah. But it's an exciting one. There was four witnesses. They're. They're both in different locations. I mean, the same block, but, like, from two different vantage points. And.
A
Okay.
B
I've talked to the witness, and there's a little bit of a history of bigfoot around this area. So Matt moneymaker from, you know, the. Whatever bigfoot show that was.
C
Of course, yeah.
B
He's a big. One of the big dogs. I don't know his work very well, but he was. He was so excited about this. This case that on his, like, Facebook page, he posted sure thing, and he was saying he was telling people to put cameras under the interstate passage. He's like, sure thing. He's like, it will. It will go back and forth and follow the deer tracks or follow the. And I'm like, I don't know. Sure things.
A
Sure things.
C
Strong words from Mr. Money Man.
B
You would think, why there him?
C
You know,
A
that reminds me of some sightings that were taking place, like, not too far from Kansas City a few years ago. And I think Matt moneymaker even came out. Oh, my gosh. There's a bigfoot sighting in Riley's. You're watching this on YouTube.
B
That was a Paris and gimlin.
A
Yeah. Mysterious figure, Female figure, just walked past the.
C
She really did the sort of, like, Victorian ghost walk.
A
Yeah, she did.
C
Right through background.
A
Yeah. I'm sure she'd appreciate me comparing her to a Victorian ghost rather than bigfoot.
C
Well, you know, tomato, but I think
A
Matt moneymaker came out to Missouri and was looking at bigfoot sightings that were reported in some caves about 45 minutes outside or 20 minutes outside of Kansas city. Are there, like, caves in Omaha? It's like, where do we think bigfoot's hanging out over there?
B
Well, according to the flesh and blood Bigfoot people, they follow like the. Because we have. Not to brag, but Nebraska's got the third most miles of river in the lower 48. So we have a lot of rivers. So they feel like they follow the rivers because that's where game hangs out. I'm not necessarily a flesh and blood bigfoot person. I'm not saying I'm not, But that's not where my money is being bet on. So. Yeah, they think that's because Nebraska, Michael, as you probably know, it's like Kansas. It's flat. There's not a lot of tree cover. It's not a place you think about with Bigfoot. However, there has been a lot of sightings going back to the late 19th century.
C
Wow. I'd like to think that Bigfoot was just enjoying the botanical garden.
B
Me too. Yeah, it is really nice, the Lawrence, and beautiful.
C
That sounds like a lovely day.
A
Why would Bigfoot want to be in the garden?
B
Yeah, my wife and I go walk around there all the time. It's. It's wonderful.
A
This is jam. Nature's Bigfoot's jam. We all know this.
C
Yeah.
A
Okay, so before we dive into our Deep Dive this week, why don't we nominate our five star club Scout of the week? This is a friend who's given us a five star review over on Apple Podcasts, which helps get the show to more people.
C
Well, this is from Luke Floyd, and Luke says consciousness is primary and fundamental. They get it. Five stars. Luke couldn't have said it better. A perfect review.
A
Thank you, teacher Luke. We appreciate you. Thank you. You are our five star club Scout of the week. Okay, let's get down to brass tacks, shall we?
C
Let's get it.
A
Riley, every time we kick off a Deep Dive series, I ask you the same question about whatever subject we're talking about, which is what do you know about the Pennsylvania bigfoot invasion of 1973?
C
Nothing. Not a. Not one thing. Literally nothing.
A
I know that's not true because we have talked about cases that have been involved in and around this area before.
C
Okay.
A
You just don't know it yet.
C
Okay.
A
I don't know that that's what we're
C
the larger context yet. Well, I'm excited. Let's get into it.
A
Steve.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
What do you know about the Pennsylvania bigfoot invasion of 1973?
B
I mean, quite a bit, right?
C
Oh, perfect.
B
I mean, it coincided with a UFO invasion. They were simultaneous happening. That's why this invasion is, in my opinion, the greatest invasion of high strangeness in a two year period.
A
I would agree. If you are a fan of high strangeness. This story has it all. And Steve hit the nail on the head. I'm toying with adding UFO into the title of this Deep Dive series. I was hoping like, invasion kind of helped sell it.
B
It does.
A
Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO invasion of 1973. That's kind of a mouthful, but it is what it is. Why don't we just get into it? Let's do it. Shall we?
C
Yeah.
B
Okay.
A
Now, Steve, you're going to play one role in this drama.
B
I love that. I booked. This is an offer only I didn't have an audition.
A
Yeah. And the pay is not great.
B
Not good, it's not.
C
But crafty is excellent, though.
B
Yeah, that's true. That's true. That's all that matters to me.
A
You have to make it yourself.
C
Yeah. You bring your own. Yeah. You're at home, so you have all your snacks.
A
Now. I invite you, Steve, to stop along the way and point out some scenery. Riley, of course, if you have any questions, interjections, let us know. But here we go, everybody. It's time for some deep dive high strangeness. On the night of July 31, 1973, a man who wished to remain anonymous. We'll call him Joe, was getting ready for bed in his rural home off Route 30, not too far from the Green Gate Mall outside of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Joe was trying to. Excuse me, Greenberg, Pennsylvania. I've already made one mistake. Joe was tidying up the bathroom when he caught a whiff of something foul. And no, it wasn't something he'd done while in the privy. It was wafting in through his open window. Joe recounted his story to a local investigator.
B
I washed and shaved and combed my hair and put some gunk on. After shaving, I had some iced tea in a little jar. I like little jars. I'm putting on my slippers and I started sniffing to beat hell. I said, what the hell could that be? It smelled like something. A foul odor or some kind of cucumber or something.
A
Some kind of cucumber.
C
Joe, what are you doing with your cucumbers in these jars?
B
Pickle Joe?
A
I mean, I feel like I have to say it. Is he smelling Bigfoot's dick? Is that what we're talking about here?
C
Yeah, that's what we're talking about.
B
Yeah, that's what we're always talking about.
C
Come on.
A
Joe glanced over to the window. Peering at him through the screen was a face unlike he'd ever seen before.
B
When I put my towel up against my face, I saw two shiny eyes right in front of the screen. I sort of, you know, got scared, but put the window down. And here I had my tea on the windowsill. It fell down, hit the commode and fell on the floor.
A
More concerned about his little jar of tea than anything else. He's like, I dropped my tea.
C
Joe's a tea man.
A
Joe described the eyes as big, round and glowing red. To make matters more disturbing, the bathroom Window in question stood level at about 8, 8ft off the ground. On the exterior of the house. Meaning whatever was watching Joe slap shave gunk on his face. And sip iced tea out of a little jar Must have been very tall. The horrible smell lingered around the area of the house, Gaining the attention of Joe's family. His son described it as smelling like sulfur. The next day, Joe had trouble breathing. And had to take a trip to the hospital. He blamed a strange encounter for the emergency visit. That's the first time I think I've heard Of a story involving big. You know, we hear about the bigfoot. Rancid smells all the time. But the first time I've heard of somebody getting sick. And needing to go to the doctors the next day about it. That gives me kind of like flatwood's monster flashbacks here.
B
I would also like to add that sulfur is a smell that has been associated. With esoteric weirdness for thousands of years.
A
El diablo.
B
El diablo. But like, the fae. I mean, Josh cushions written a whole book, and sulfur plays a big part. So, sulfur smell, that ain't too common with bigfoot, really.
A
Why do you think the. What. What is it about sulfur smell? What do we know?
B
Why.
A
Why that with. Associated with this stuff?
B
That's a good question. The why? I'm not really. I mean, obviously, you know, you can go and take a biblical slant at it. That would be the smell of demonic, you know, hell type. You know, don't they describe, like, hell as some kind of sulfuric? Like. Yeah, hot, Hot fire rocks. Yeah.
C
Sulfur associated with, like, volcanic activity?
B
Is that I think so.
C
You know, associated with, like, hell and that sort of.
B
Yeah.
C
Idea.
A
Which is weird because I don't feel like bigfoot comes from hell or volcanoes or volcanoes for that. That Squatch. Maybe both.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
But bigfoot, I'm not so sure. Well, during the summer of 1973. In Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, stories like Joe's Were at the risk of becoming commonplace. The county became a hotbed for both bigfoot and UFO activity, Terrifying local residents and leaving local paranormal investigators Scratching their heads. During the months of July through November, Numerous reports emerged almost daily. Detailing encounters with large ape like creatures in the region's wooded areas. Often described as dark in color and sometimes reaching the heights of a staggering 10ft tall.
C
Wow.
A
Witnesses encountered these creatures near their homes, in their backyards, on hiking trails and fields, Often reporting not just one, but sometimes groups of two or three of these beings. Although details of the bigfoot's appearances. Sometimes differed from sighting to sighting, One defining characteristic seemed to pop up over and over again. These hairy hominids were commonly described as having glowing red eyes. If a sudden, mysterious Bigfoot flap Weren't startling enough, 1973 was also marked by a significant uptick in UFO reports across the state, particularly in Westmoreland County. Residents reported observing strange lights in the sky as well as unidentified flying objects performing erratic maneuvers. All sorts of UAPs, from red fiery orbs to silver cigar shaped sky vessels were seen. The convergence of Bigfoot and UFO phenomena in this region sparked speculation about a possible connection between the two, leading researchers to explore whether these events might be part of a larger pattern of unexplained activity. The intrigue surrounding Westmoreland county during 1973 continues to resonate in the annals of paranormal studies as both local lore and investigative efforts seek to uncover the truth behind these enigmatic occurrences. Which brings us to today. In this Deep Dive series, we will explore the high strangeness taking place surrounding these events, highlighting some of the best encounter stories all the way leading our way back to revisit one of the weirdest paranormal events we've ever discussed on the show. This is the Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO invasion, Part one.
B
Wow, Steve, I mean, I'm so excited. I have to tell you, at first, I have goosebumps right now. Grant, Great intro, great intro.
A
I want to tell everybody listening at home what I'd like you to do. If you got a. If you got a nice bakery nearby, go on down to that bakery, order yourself a big old slice of black forest cake. You get yourself a nice tall glass of milk, and I just want you to sit down and eat some chocolate cake and listen to this story. Okay?
B
Because that's what it is. It's chocolate cake. This. This is dessert. This high strange dessert right here.
A
This could also go well with a nice crisp craft beer, if you like to drink beer.
B
I do. Okay.
A
Or a jar of iced tea, everybody.
C
That's also an old cucumber.
A
An old cucumber. Just keep it out of the bathroom. Don't bring your iced tea into the bathroom, everybody. Now, Steve, you have been quite recently to Westmoreland County. In fact, you have gone to some sites that we'll be discussing in the series. What can you tell us about this area? Tell us about the geography. Tell us about the vibes. What's it like first off?
B
Like, geographically speaking, it is drop dead gorgeous. It is wildly tree covered. These, I mean, not big, you know, Colorado west type mountains, but I guess almost in Colorado. Probably call them photos, but they Call them mountains. There's mountains everywhere. Rolling hills, so much forest. And like, it's an. You know, Pennsylvania is an old state. I'm used to the Midwest and the west coast, which we're just little babies. So there's all this old architecture, kind of these old mining towns. I love driving through them. I mean, there's some, like, you know, there's a lot of poverty, but, like, it's gorgeous. I love it. I mean, like, it. It is really beautiful. There's a Frank Lloyd Wright house there. Falling water. Breathtaking.
C
Famous one.
B
Like, it's a great place to vacation. There's Neme right there, close to Pittsburgh, which is a great city.
A
I went to school in Pittsburgh, and I remember when I got there, having come from Kansas and, and. And going finishing high school in Michigan. Pittsburgh sits on the triangle of three rivers, and it's surrounded by hills and mountains. It is beautiful. I love Pittsburgh. It's just that area of the country is so gorgeous.
B
I'm with you.
A
So this area is. I mean, where we're talking about Westmoreland county, it's pretty rural, and I would imagine still rural today.
B
Yeah, it's. It's like my wife is from that area. She's actually from Fayette county, which is just, you know, right next to. I mean, they're very close. Her parents live, like, you know, five minutes from Westmoreland. But wait, what was the question?
A
I was just saying it must still be pretty rural, right?
B
Oh, no, it's rural. Yeah. So there. I mean, there's little towns, but, like, the towns are like, you know, 5,000 people, 8,000 people.
A
Yeah. And so when we're telling these stories, you know, imagine everybody. We're talking about 1973, and I'm sure the population hasn't changed that drastically, but these are small country towns that we're talking about. Okay, let's take a break, and when we come back, we're getting into it. All right, Stevie, this is what you've been waiting for. Riley, get ready to be educated now. The primary source for this episode and the following episodes in the series is Silent Invasion, a book by Stan Gordon. We're going to get all into Stan Gordon. That's a name that has definitely come up on the show. We're gonna get to know a little bit more about him. Steve, have you met Stan Gordon? Is this a possibility?
B
I've talked to him via email a handful of times. He's so nice. I'm dying to get him on my show. I just wanna say that Stan Gordon is one of these unsung heroes in these Fordian fields. When he first published this book, people thought like, What a dummy? UFOs and Bigfoots. He was actually also one of the first guys to see. I don't know if Bigfoot's a flesh and blood creature because it kind of doesn't seem like it according to the cases he was fighting. So he was really controversial. And now like he's kind of like an OG Bigfoot hipster if you ask me. Yeah, like he was ahead of the game by like 25 years alt.
A
Bigfoot, like, you know, indie rock Bigfoot.
B
He's a Steve Malkmus of Bigfoot.
A
I love this. Okay, great.
C
Perfect is the title right there. Yeah.
A
Well, in some ways, this story really begins on December 9, 1965, with a UFO crash. Recall this story, listeners, when we covered it back in episode 119, but for our newcomers, I will give you a brief recap. The Kecksburg UFO incident occurred in the small town of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, when residents reported seeing a bright fireball streaking across the night sky. The phenomenon began around 4:47pm when the fireball was observed flying over several states, including Michigan, Ohio, and good old Pennsylvania. The object was thought to be a meteor at first, but reports of the object's descent prompted local residents to investigate further, leading to the discovery of a crash site in a nearby wooded area. Eyewitness accounts describe the object as a metallic acorn shaped craft approximately 12ft long with strange hieroglyphic monsters markings on its surface. However, as authorities arrived, it became apparent that the situation was more complex. Within hours, the area was cordoned offed by the military, and witnesses reported seeing army personnel at the site who apparently recovered the object and removed it from the area. The military's involvement fueled further speculation and conspiracy theories about the true nature of the object. Residents describe seeing the military transporting something large and unusual through town on the back of a a flatbed truck, much like Roswell, if you remember that. Yet official explanations remain vague. One young man, a local teenager who lived in nearby Greensburg, Pennsylvania, was fascinated with this case. Young Stan Gordon had been fascinated with UFOs, ghosts, cryptids, and all things foriana from a young age. And a UFO crash landing in his backyard was a sign that it was time for him to get involved in the realm of high strangeness. Stan's plucky investigative style into the Kecksburg incident led him to founding the Pennsylvania UFO Study Group in the late 1960s, which served as a platform for collecting and analyzing UFO sightings and reports from across the state. By the time of the Bigfoot ufo invasion of 1973, Gordon's study group had become the Westmoreland County UFO Research Organization, also cumbersomely known as the WCUFO. RG.
C
It could have workshopped the name.
A
Could have workshopped it, buddy.
B
Not very snappy. Not very snappy.
A
Wkuforg.
C
Great work. Yeah, great work otherwise, but wkuforg.
A
Yeah. Maybe if you lived in the Westmoreland county area in the early 1970s and reported a UFO sighting to the. The police, the local authorities would tell you to call Stan Gordon. Now I want to stop here and say, kids, this is what we've lost today, all right? I want to talk to you about good old fashioned American gumption. Stan Gordon's just like us. When he was a kid. He would listen to these stories late night on the radio. He'd go check out books in the library about UFOs and ghosts and all of these things. And so when this stuff started happening, he's like, I'm gonna get out there and I'm going to see it for myself. So he's kind of like the Rick Jones and the Teen Brigade of the early Marvel comics of the UFOs. Like he would just show up, knock on doors, walk up to the police if there were, walk up to reporters and say, what's going on? And there must have been something about his. I call it plucky, but like there must have been something about him that really endeared everyone to him because literally the cops would tell him the stories of what they found at the, you know, when people were reporting UFOs or Bigfoot, and he would go talk to the eyewitnesses and he wrote all of this shit down and he kept records of all of these stories. And that's why we have this book today. And we're going to get into some of these stories. Don't you think those Steve, like, get out there and go ask people about what they've seen.
B
You want to know? It's interesting is a lot of these organizations for all the 41 Bigfoot UFOs were started by teenagers back in the 60s. And so Rhett Reigns, Dennis Pillow Kiss. I mean, Ray Boshay, they were all like 15, 16 years old when they started these things. Like when you said gumption, I kind of think you nailed it.
A
Yeah, I just love the idea of. I mean, this is like a. He's like a character in a movie, you know what I mean? Like, hey, Mr. What's going on? What did you see? What did you hear? You know?
B
Yeah.
A
And he drove around in a Dodge Charger and he said he loved hanging out at the Green Gate Mall, which. The Green Gate Mall. A lot of activity happening around the Green Gate Mall. I mean, this is kind of like Hawkins in Stranger Things.
B
Wow. Yeah.
A
And by the way, I'm going to go back correct my correction. It is Greensburg, Pennsylvania. I get confused because Green Gate Mall and Greensburg, Pennsylvania. So I apologize. Here we go. Oh, other things I want to mention about Stan Gordon that we didn't talk about. He was a longtime member of Mutual UFO Network. I think he was president of his local chapter and he was a member of the center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence, cseti. And so I just thought those were cool credits as well. He's like the real deal.
C
Yeah.
A
So Stan and the WOKU forg or the WCUFO RG were instrumental in collecting data and stories during the invasion of 1973. Most of, if not all of the cases can be found in silent invasion. While the crux of the flap occurred in 1973, UFO activity over Pennsylvania saw an UN uptick in 1972. During the months of April through May of that year, Wu Forg field researchers investigated numerous reports of glowing spherical lights appearing over Chestnut Ridge near Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Steve, talk about Chestnut Ridge. What comes to mind when I say Chestnut Ridge?
B
A massive confluence of all sorts of high strangeness. We're talking bigfoot, of course, UFOs, Thunderbirds. Speaking of, there was a. Just a Thunderbird sighting this month, like days ago.
A
No way.
B
In this exact area, which you gotta love. Thunderbird. Yeah. And the thing is, like, they don't just see one kind of like ufo, but they see orange balls of light like the size of helicopters. Are extremely common still to this day. Structured craft, all other kinds of weird, like folklore. In Pennsylvania, they have like Pennsylvania folk magic. So there is a real esoteric cool. Not to mention Fayetteville or Fayette county, which is kind of at the heart of all this. That in Westmoreland there is. There was a book written by Lauren Coleman called the Fayette Factor about how places were Lafayette, you know, this French general. Every place he visited, they would name. Name Fayette after him. And all those places are extremely weird and have a long history of weirdness.
A
Whoa. I never knew this.
B
Yeah. It's where Lauren Coleman wrote a book in this 70s about it, I think called the. The name. It was. I think it was called the Fayette Factor. And he calls it the name game. But there's a couple names and Fayette is like the most common one.
A
Man, back when books were good.
B
Yeah, right. That's spicy stuff right there.
A
That is spicy stuff. What's the mineral makeup of Chestnut, Richard? Are we talking some quartz here? What are we.
B
There is coarse, a lot of limestone which would go. That makes it with the caves and the coal. You know, it was, you know, obviously at one point I think the probably where most of America's coal was mined that in West Virginia, which I think a lot of that has stopped now. But I know limestone comes to mind and there is some quartz. I don't think it's like, you know, Somerset, Kentucky, where it's like one giant piece, of course, or Sedona, but there is quartz for sure.
A
Okay, so here we go.
B
Where were we?
A
Yes. In October of That same year, 1972, reports started coming in about a tall, black haired creature stalking the homesteads outside of Latrobe. Families reported encounters with a huge hairy being with pointy ears and red eyes that peered into their windows, attacked their dogs, and on one terrifying occasion even lifted and shook a car while the passengers were still inside of it. And I just want to pull this story directly out of the book. It's just a little snippet. It was about 3 o' clock one morning when one of the family members and her friend pulled into their driveway. It was very dark and there was a heavy rain at the time. They turned out the car lights and the driver reached down to get her house keys. While still in their vehicle, the two people suddenly found themselves being thrown to and fro. Something was lifting and shaking the small car, causing the passengers to be thrown about. This frightening situation lasted for several minutes, then ended as suddenly as it began. The car had been moved a distance from where they had parked.
C
Whoa.
B
Yeah. Yeah.
C
I mean, that's a lot of strength to not just lift a car, but lift it so violently that you're shaking people around inside.
B
Yeah, that's some hardcore bro energy.
A
How many Yinglings did this guy.
B
Well, you know what if I don't mean. I'm sorry, I'm interrupt, but I want to say that one of the interesting things that you will hear over and over again in this book is that they describe these version of Bigfoot with pointy ears. Now, to my recollection, I do not remember coming across any description of ears period when it comes to.
A
No, I mean tiny ears. Sometimes like little tiny ears on the side of their head. And these. So if you're listening at home, these aren't, these aren't like dogman ears. They're not tall, pointy dog ears.
C
That's where my head went when you said that.
B
No, they're tiny.
A
No, they're like Spock ears. Imagine a Bigfoot with Peter Pan or Spock ears. They're rounded ears, but then they're pointed at the tips, at the tops of the ear.
B
Yep.
C
So this is like Elven Bigfoot.
A
Elven Bigfoot.
B
Bingo. Five points to you. I mean this goes with my fairy theory of Bigfoot. But I do also want to say one other thing, and that is a lot of times these Bigfoot weren't like the big muscular, like kind of like, you know, Pacific Northwest. They were more wiry, more like heroin chic of the 90s, you know, like a Kate Moss.
A
Yeah, but tall too. All of these reports put them at 8 to 10ft. There's another story about a woman who saw it looking in her window, much like Joe. And her window was like nine feet off the ground and this thing was bending down to look into the window. Oh, spooky. So it's weird. This is weird, weird stuff that we're talking about. So the saga of the pointy eared Bigfoot 1972 ended with one local man who was found unconscious in the woods after going missing. His face was swollen and he was taken to the hospital where he claimed he was hit in the face by the pointy eared creature. A group of men, small town monster posse, went back into the area and reportedly shot, shot at a tall, dark, hulking figure before it retreated deeper into the woods. And that was one of the last sightings in that flap. The high strangeness did not let up in the early weeks of 1973. By mid January, the Westmoreland County UFO Research Organization was getting a flood of calls from people claiming to have seen a ufo. And it appears that all varieties of unexplained craft were seen flying over Pennsylvania during this time period. Amber, orange, pink and red objects, capsule shaped crafts, cigar shaped objects, star shaped objects were all reported. For context sake, here's a list of reports that the WC UFO RG recorded just for just one week in March. March 11, 1973 Delmont 2:45am Cylindrical shaped objects reported March 11, 1973. Jeanette 11:50pm Light scene over radio tower. March 13, 1973 Murraysville 7:45am Transparent object observed in the sky. March 15, 1973 Stahlstown 7:20pm Elongated object seen 500ft off the ground. March 15, 1973 Milton, North Cumberland County APM Oder then strain objects. Strange objects reported. March 16, 1973 Mifflinburg, Union County 5:30am Domed shaped objects hovering motionless. That's just one week in March. And this timeline goes on and on just like this throughout the rest of the year.
B
Wow. Scrumptious.
A
Scrumptlyumptious.
C
Also, especially in a fairly small town to have that many different sightings.
B
Not huge population, you know, like happening
A
multiple times a day in some cases, not just multiple times a week. And the reports didn't involve just involve objects seen in the sky. A number of cases came in with eyewitness reports of craft landing and occupants seen in the immediate vicinity. On March 28, the Reading Pa. Eagle newspaper reports reported that a family from Robinsia were awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of a multi colored object landing in the field outside of their property. Backlit against the ever shifting light display of the craft, the husband, wife and son could make out the skinny silhouette of a figure walking around the craft, at times bending over as if collecting samples from the ground. The family described the entity as a stick figure like form from their vantage point.
C
I mean that's just so cinematic. I love that so much.
B
It's beautiful.
C
Wow.
A
It's like tall E.T.
B
yeah, yeah. And the samples from the ground, classic in that era. I mean they could not get enough dirt back then. Yeah.
A
Yum yum yum yum yum yum. Fill up our little dirt.
B
Must have been like they couldn't get enough.
A
Then there's another weird encounter on April 15. Less than a month later, during the hours between 8 and 11pm Multiple eyewitnesses traveling between Manor and Penn, two tiny little towns reported multiple low flying crafts. Okay, this is all in one night. One was a round shaped object with windows emitting multicolored lights from within, topped with a dome. A dome like structure emitting a white light. Another seen by two cars following one. Another home to Manor was a longer craft like a cigar that was about 60ft long and tapered at the tail end with two bright portholes or headlights at the head of the object and similar round lights running alongside the hole. A weird mist or haze was surrounding the object, making it hard hard to get a clear view. This evening's excitement culminated with another driver witnessing a brightly lipped object that spun like a top, possibly descending an occupant from a thin beam of light or rope. Here is that encounter as told to Stan Gordon. This is Stan talking here, the witness described the shape of the object to me is similar to a gray glowing spinning top. Its size was estimated to be approximately 36ft in diameter. The object was spinning while in this hovering position and lit up the area with a burning white glow. The object itself appeared to be a solid structure and gave the witness the impression that it was, quote, white hot like molten steel. The bright glow of the object was described as similar to a morning snow. At the top of the spinning object was a dome shaped structure which was the same color as the object. Around the center of the object were two or three rows of square windows which emitted various colors of light. Now I just want to pause here and talk about the level of detail that Stan Gordon is getting from these eyewitnesses. And like case after case, he's getting these fucking details back to back to his back to stand. Seeing the UFO was strange enough, but there was even more to this sighting. The man explained that there was something that was coming out from it. The witness related how he saw what appeared to be a beam of light or possibly some type of rope which extended out about 20 yards from the left center of the side of the object. The beam or rope was attached to some kind of form. The witness was reluctant to say that the form was human like, only that it appeared to be a hulk or a torso about 8 to 10ft tall and had a color to it. As he continued to watch, the attachment line and the unknown form suddenly vanished. He described this as like a string of lights on one circuit, like all going out when the switch is turned off. Moments after that happened, the spinning object suddenly took off at high speed toward the Harrison City area. He was able to hear not only a high pitched sound as the object took off, but also the wind blowing through the trees as the object moved above him. The driver had kept his engine running and headlights on when exiting the car. While watching the ufo, the car suddenly shut off and the headlights became as dim and as weak as a flashlight. As the object appeared departed the area, the man noticed that his headlights became very bright. Shaken by his experience, he drove down the road to find a telephone where he called the state police. The state police referred the witness to call my UFO hotline.
C
Amazing love that cops are like don't call us man. All this call this kid he's got.
B
By the way, I wanted, I always want to add that he, he. That phone number is the same one he's had for decades. It still, he still has that landline. Go look at his website his website is, like, ancient and old and it's so I. I now like him, like, nostalgic for, like, early 2000s, like websites.
C
Oh, the best.
B
His is delightful. Delightful. Yeah. Link it in this episode.
A
Okay, I will, I will. So the UFO encounters continued weekly well into the summer of 1973. Then in August, strange footprints, unlike any other Bigfoot scene before, began turning up in the area. Now, we talked about the encounter involving Joe and his bathroom window, which took place at the end of July of 1970. The Bigfoot, if we can even call the entity that activity, really started going crazy in August. But there were more reports in Maine through June of a tall, black, hairy creature with red eyes and pointy ears roaming around Westmoreland county, which to me makes it seem like whatever was hopping around, walking around in late 1972 back in October is now re emerging in May and June. For example, one story goes that a group of teenage boys were walking down Green Gate Road in the early summer one evening while taking a shortcut through the woods to go to the mall. From deep within the brush came a loud snort which caught the attention of the boys. And thinking that the creature might be a deer, they quickly picked up a few rocks and started chucking them into the tree line. Hey, now, you know, probably just want to see a deer run across the road. All right, all right. And they did see something, but it wasn't a deer. A bipedal, hairy creature emerged from the woods behind them, crossed the road and started walking up a hill back towards the house of one of the boys. The teenagers described the creature standing about 8 to 10ft tall and walking upright like a man with pointy ears, with arms that did not swing while it walked. I love this comical description of this thing walking very stiffly. And there's another report that comes in this period, too, of the legs being very stiff, that the legs are walking kind of. They're not bowed at the knee like great apes walk, that they're. It's very stiff limbed and stiff legged, which I don't. This stuff is weird to me because that almost makes me feel like 60s 70s robot, you know, I was just
B
gonna say the same thing. I think there's a couple things that feel very, like, synthetic to me, like. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, you know, the mannerisms. Well, I mean, I don't want to get too deep into busting the stories, but, like, you know, can't do it. There's so many, like, balls of light. And, like, there's one case, and I Don't want to. In case you get to. I don't want to say it, but I'll bring it up.
A
Bring it out. Yeah.
B
And I don't know if it's in this book, but it is from this time period where there was a. I think a couple, they pulled their car over because they saw a bright light in like the field. So they went over there, they saw a UFO hovering. Then underneath the ufo they see what they call the Bigfoot holding a black box with a little red light on it. And then all of a sudden the like the, the box like gives him like an electrocution and like the Bigfoot was being naughty and then it went back on the UFO and took off. That's so weird.
C
This is so strange.
B
So there's like, you know, it's like that's a case of where it was interacting directly under. It went into the UFO craft. But there's other weird things where it's like, there's definitely like these Bigfoot seem like more occulty than like animal to me. You know how.
A
So unpack that a little bit.
B
Yeah, well, I feel like, you know, they're. The pointy ears, the way they look. I mean obviously Bigfoot is how one would describe it, but there's a lot of things about that that doesn't seem like a Bigfoot. Yes, it's tall, upright and fur covered. But the pointy ears, the sulfuric smells,
A
the glowing red eyes.
B
The glowing red eyes. It being seen in proximity to UFOs and at the same time. Like when these, both these flaps ended, both the stuff ended like it's like when the UFOs ended, so the Bigfoot. When the Bigfoot ended, so the UFOs. So it's like tonight. I know a lot of people don't like the idea of high strangers blending into each other or potentially.
A
That is what I love more than anything, brother.
B
That's, that's where the, that's where the meatball is for me. You know what I'm saying? So like, I think people like to have these separate, you know, because historically the Bigfoot people hate the UFO people, the UFO hate the Bigfoot people. Paranormal people hate everyone. And so why can't we all just get along?
C
We gotta come together, everybody.
A
That's what the collector's club is all about.
B
Everybody.
A
Riley, where's your head at at this point in the story?
C
I mean this is like a really substantial flap and yeah, these, they don't sound like Bigfoot to me. Like specifically the glowing red eyes, like it's not. No one's describing like an eyeshine thing. It's like. No, they have like they're emitting.
A
They're literally glowing.
C
And the weird little elven ears. Like it sounds like this is like some sort of, you know, alien species or something. Like, especially with so many crafts. And I also did the. All of these craft stories are so nicely detailed and vivid. Like I can really, I can really see them. And you can really like hear the immediacy of the fact that this is a witness recounting it like very shortly after. So it's just that it's a treasure trove.
B
This is awesome. It is.
A
Yeah. Yeah. And we're barely scratching the surface in this episode as well.
B
That's true. And the nice thing is, I'm so glad you're highlighting this book and this flat because for many years this whole like, you know, the Chestnut Ridge saga was swept under the table by UFO people, Bigfoot people, because they did not like that. It didn't confirm their belief system.
A
Yep.
B
And nowadays people are a little more open minded and I think this stuff is becoming a lot more hip and I'm so happy for it.
A
Especially with the case that we're going to get into next week. I mean it involves so much weird stuff, so much high strangeness that you'll see why Bigfoot people want to ignore it because it would sort of completely discount the flesh and blood or the relic hominid theory. And you'll see why UFO people want to discount it because it's really hard to divorce the creatures from the so called UFO as well.
B
Yeah.
A
And we're not even getting into the men in black shit that gets involved with it.
B
Yeah. And it's got occult stuff too. I mean like, you know, it's, it's, it's thick, baby.
C
We're really dancing around some clickbaity titles here. Oh yeah, the Bigfoot story. The UFO people don't want you to know.
A
Yeah.
C
Cardiologists hate this one. Bigfoot
A
podiatrists want you to ignore this next fact about Bigfoot's footprint.
C
Exactly.
A
Which is this? This is gonna go, this is gonna go into the bucket of. Is this actually a Bigfoot?
B
Okay.
A
The investigation into the boys sighting led Stan Gordon going out to the area to look for evidence on the hillside where the boys had claimed that they'd seen the beast walk back up towards the. Their. Their home. Gordon was shocked to discover the presence of large three toed footprints in the soil which are obviously not your typical Bigfoot print. Now some of you may recall that we have heard about three toed footprints in the past. The folk monster and Bigfoot sightings around Arkansas often come with the presence of three toed footprints which are very, very weird and definitely go against the sort of relic hominid thing for me. But here's a photograph and I'll put this, I'll put a slide in here if you're watching on YouTube and hi everybody, watching on YouTube, thanks for watching. This will go up in Instagram as well. But here is the casting of this print.
C
Big old toes.
B
Oh, mommy.
A
We are talking like almost duck foot.
C
This is almost like what I would expect, like big.
B
I think I have a foot finish now.
A
I mean this, this is like gonzo. This is like a muppet, you know.
C
Yeah, it looks like Big bird.
A
It makes me kind of wonder like, what if this is sort of like some type of platypus type man, you know, the platypus is one of these mammals that confounds everybody. It's got a beak, it's got a beaver tail, it's got weird feet, it lays eggs. So who this? I. This thing could be the platypus of Bigfoots. Yeah, it's very, very, very weird.
B
Well, I believe the Roman gods used to take animals and combine them for fun in games. I think. I even think Norse mythology has the same thing where they, you know, you see these like old pictographs of like a cat and a, you know, a dog and a butterfly all combined as one creature.
A
Yeah.
B
So it's obviously probably like, you know, Poseidon creating these things.
A
Yeah, probably is. I mean even the Bible that gets into like angels that are like a bull and a lion and a lamb and a human or like a face with like, surrounded by a thousand wings and like arms in weird places like chimera and strange makeup of mishmash. Monsters have existed for as long as human beings have. I just wanted to double check the length and the measurements of this, this duck foot or this Bigfoot 3 toed. Gordon says, I measured the imprint, which was 13 inches in length and 8 inches in width, but oddly it only had three large toes. I radioed from the scene to the UFO Control Communication center in my home and another member of the WC UFO SG soon sg. Have I been saying re or have I been saying org? God damn it, Stan. It's so confusing. I've messed up the name the whole time. So it's the wkuzga.
B
What is it that rolls off his tongue?
A
It's Just as cumbersome. Hold on.
B
Wait.
C
What? What is it? What is the official here?
A
Okay, hold on, I got it. It's the official. God. This is what happens when you're typing feverishly about UFOs and Bigfoot. Sorry. It was originally the Pennsylvania Study Group.
C
Great.
A
And then it became the Westmoreland County UFO Study Group. And I thought it was research organization. So I fucked this up this entire time. This is why you've got to get a good acronym. Everybody.
B
Yeah. Yeah.
C
So it's the.
A
It's the. Yeah.
B
Yeah. That's nice.
C
Yeah.
A
Really, I think better. Well, I apologize to Stan Gordon.
C
A play on the. The O in ufo.
B
I would just call Stan's boys.
A
Stan's Boys. We're just gonna call it Stanley's Gang from now on.
C
Just pause to note that they had radios set up and he was radioing control in his house. How cool is that? I'm teaching that walkie talkies.
A
He is Rick Jones and the Teen Brigade from the early Marvel's Avengers comics like he is. They're running around with walkie talkies and he's only like 24 or 25 while all of this is going on, so.
B
Great. Well, he owned and operated, he's retired now, an electronic store. It all checked out.
A
Well his degree was in radio and electronics. So he, he's a gadget guy.
C
This dude rules.
A
So he's a Ghostbuster too. You know what I mean? That's the thing. I mean he's like making little gadget. He's like an Egon Spangler. He's just using little like any that he can use around him. Man, I'm so pissed I got that wrong. I'm sorry everybody.
B
Forgive yourself.
A
You know the thing is sometimes you got a deadline and you're typing away. Okay, so on this on August 7th, the same day that Stan Gordon had found the three toed print, the study group got a call reporting an encounter with a red eyed being at a mobile home in New Zwickley Township. The eyewitness, a man, said that the creature's head peered into his window around 1:40 in the morning. It had a nose that was flat like a gorilla's, but it had, say it with me, glowing red eyes. He judged the creature to be around 8ft tall. Again, odd tracks were found in the area, this time by law enforcement who responded to the original emergency call. Sightings of the creature continued throughout August, including one involving two children from Monongila, Pennsylvania who spotted a dark red eyed creature digging around in some coal Oddly, there were reports of white haired creatures as well. So just as you think you've got this thing pinned down, here come the yeti out of nowhere. We're going to talk about one of them next week. But this one came from a woman in Plum, Plum in Allegheny county, who said that she was sitting outside in her yard enjoying the fresh summer air when she heard the sound of someone walking up behind her. She turned and she saw about 15ft away, a tall hairy creature with red eyes stepped into view. The witness ran into the house to tell other family members about what they had seen. Excuse me. Okay, hold on. Pause, pause. This, that was the, that was a different case the same day. So this is the. Now I'm all thrown off.
C
I mean even that one, though, 15ft away.
A
Fifteen feet away, yes. This one was the one in Jeanette county where UFOs had been seen in March. That one was a young man who went outside to do some chores and he heard some noise in a nearby brush. And then 15ft away, this creature steps out.
C
Got it.
A
So shortly after that, on August 3rd, near Plum county, or Plum in Allegheny county, the woman sitting on her yard enjoying the fresh air, she turns around to see a 9 to 10 foot creature covered in white hair. The creature was only about 10ft away from the witness and was staring at in her direction. The woman's dog did not bark while the creature was nearby and it remained quiet during the entire episode. The witness went on to say that the creature appeared to be slightly stooped, was very broad shouldered, shouldered and had a pear shaped head. Pear shaped. Now we're talking Dover Demon here. I don't know what's going on.
B
Yeah.
A
Wow. So this is another thing that happens in Joe's story. Our, our first friend with the, with the tea and the pickle. He said that his dogs that usually go nuts when there's an animal, you know, because there's also bear in this area. When there's animals in the area, the dogs usually go crazy. And his dogs all went really quiet when that creature was around. So there's stories of dogs suddenly getting very scared and quiet and not barking at this thing, which maybe they're so intimidated by it that they are scared or that there's some sort of infrared sound happening here that is scaring the dogs or some telepathy telling the dogs to calm down. But then in other stories which are sad, there are stories of dogs going missing or being killed by these creatures. There was a family where one of the dogs haunches had been like ripped open and they took it to the vet and it didn't survive. And that was after they had seen a tall, black, hairy, red eyed creature on their property and the dog had chased after it.
B
Wow. Wow.
A
It's crazy. It's heavy, heavy stuff. Also around this time comes a story involving two men who encountered a tall, dark, hairy creature along a country road who disappeared and then reappeared on the opposite side of them. And this wouldn't be the only eyewitness story involving a vanishing monster. On August 20, the Derry Police were alarmed by a report involving a local motorist who claimed while driving in the car with his wife to have hit a tall ape like creature who vanished into thin air at the moment of impact.
C
What? Yeah, that is wild.
A
But there's another story with the family driving back in, I think this was in 1972, hitting one of these things and it rolled over their car and then stood up in the. The kids looked out the back window and saw what they described as a tall hairy man with no clothes on running off into the woods after being hit and rolling over the hood of their car. So in some cases it vanishes. In some cases it's just running back off into the woods. Now maybe it was just a very hairy man with no clothes on. That's pot. That's also a possibility.
C
Yeah, sure, but the agile at that too.
A
But the nature of this thing just disappearing like the torso hanging off the UFO in the man's story who saw it hovering over the train tracks. What the hell's going on here?
B
I was on a, I won't say what show and it was not an argument but like, you know, I was kind of defending my, you know, and more open minded.
A
Really piqued our curiosity.
B
Yeah, no, no, I love the person who hosted We're Friends. But anyways, you know, he's a defender of the flesh and blood thing. And he was. And I was like, well what about the cloaking cases? Because you hear about those not just here. And he's like, well you know, we don't know what kind of, you know, it might be an advanced animal that has some kind of like ability to blend into the environment. And I'm like, I'm like, but isn't that kind of paranormal? Like if you know, I mean like, you know, it's like, well it might just have like these powers. I'm like well if it has powers, it's not paranormal.
C
It just has special powers.
B
Yeah, okay, I guess. But you know, but it's the cloaking thing is Interesting. And you'll hear flesh and blood people feel like, well, yeah, you know, they can cloak themselves, but they're not supernatural. Right.
C
What's the octopus is the reference, right?
B
Right. That's exactly right.
C
But I mean octopus are aliens, let's be honest.
B
I mean we all know that now, right? We can come out and say.
C
Go ahead and say it.
B
Yeah.
A
So take a listen to. Oh, hold on a second. Let's go back for a moment. I lost my place here. I was just thinking about the camouflaging Bigfoot stuff and. Because like if, if did it vanish? Does it vanish into thin air or does it just cloak?
B
Right.
A
That's, that's the other thing that I just don't, I don't know. I don't get it, guys.
B
Well, guess what else just finishes UFOs.
A
That's true.
B
And ghosts.
A
Yeah, ghosts do vanish.
B
Yeah, you rarely see them walk down the street and like walk off into another block. It's like they're there, they're not there.
A
You know what else vanishes? Boxes of Girl Scout cookies around my apartment. Right. Support your local Girl Scout chapter, everyone. So the UFO activity continued during August as well with an hourglass shaped craft seeing flying over a power power line in Harrison City. A spherical object emitting sparks over a garage in New Alexandria. And the eyewitness saw a small aircraft follow that as it took off. And a flying saucer with illuminated windows seen by a mother and her two children hovering over a golf course near the Green Gate Mall. Again, this mall, lots of activity around the mall. Yes, that's the same area where the boys had encountered the pointy earth creature on the road. And not far from where the red eyed monster appeared into the bathroom. Bathroom. Joe's window. Speaking of those red eyes, take a listen to this report that Stan Gordon received from two police officers on Aug. 14 near New Stanton, just a week after he discovered those three toed tracts. It was about 4:30am on Aug. 14 when a police officer on patrol in a wooded area New Stanton noticed what he thought were at first reflector lights on a trailer. When the officer stopped for a better look, he soon realized that these were not reflectors at all, but appeared to be two glowing eyes, each about the size of a 50 cent piece. The eyes were connected to a tall dark shape which the officer estimated to be about 8ft tall. I spoke with the officer who was quite reluctant to discuss his experience, but he was sure that he had seen something quite out of the ordinary. So again, these things are in glowing in the dark. There was another case where the eyewitness described the same thing, except the eyes were not level. That there were like one was higher than the other on, on the head, which I don't want to know what's going on there. Really, really weird stuff. Now I ask you, Steve Riley, could all of these be the same creature and were they connected somehow to the UFO activity? And what about the mysterious three toed footprints? More of them showed up in the rural areas of Hutchinson on August 15, a day after Stan Gordon gets that report. Investigating a sighting with a local reporter and members of the study group, Stan wrote this about the new tracks that they found. And this is getting into some weird stuff again. The glow of safety flares placed on the ground by the onlookers prior to our arrival produced an eerie reflection on a series of huge three toed prints, the likes of which I had never seen before. They were not in fact the same configuration as the three toed print footprints found somewhere else. Rather than the foot being narrow at the heel and wider at the toes, on these footprints the width of the entire foot was nearly as wide as the span of the toes. Additionally, the joints in the toes were clearly defined. The footprints were 20 inches long and 7 inches wide. So much, much bigger. The tracks were well formed and impressed deeply into the ground. So that sounds kind of like a, a brick shaped, you know, print where the toes are straight instead of splayed out.
B
Yes.
A
By mid August, news about this strange Bigfoot activity was making headlines across Pennsylvania. Strange things were indeed afoot in Westmoreland County. But things are about to get even weirder as we will find out next week in part two of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO invasion.
C
We're hanging off that cliff.
B
Oh man.
A
So what do you think guys? Same creature, same type of creature? Multiple creatures? Robot creatures? Are they occupants in these UFOs? What are we thinking?
C
Steve, you jump on this first.
B
I will. I feel conclusive. I can say with a lot of confidence that it's not the same creature. In terms of the rest of the questions you asked, I think it could be all of the above. Like I, I think these are weird. Big, big feet. I mean, I don't even know if we can call them your, your typical Bigfoot. I would like to just add one real quick thing.
A
Yeah.
B
Pennsylvania is unique where it actually has a very old history of Bigfoot sighting. There's this great researcher named Timothy Renner from Pennsylvania.
A
Yeah.
B
And he has all these old cases, you know, for the show. Right. Where you know, Used to be called the Wild man because they didn't have the term Bigfoot. But he's got cases where he there people are seeing the Wild Man, AKA Bigfoot with a musket, holding a gun and it has clothes on, like ripped up clothes. Like, I mean the old cases from the 1800s are unbelievably weird.
A
Yeah, I've read some of those. We did. We covered maybe a few of those in our early Bigfoot reports back in big Hairy summer a couple years back. And you're right, I mean the. There are Bigfoot Wild man stories that is in this area specifically that go back hundreds of years before all this stuff happened. So there is a precedent for Bigfoot in this area. But this seems to be a really weird uptick and not your typical Bigfoot, right?
C
Not at all typical.
B
Yeah, right.
C
The only other place where my mind goes is, is if this was somehow related to like covert military or like, you know, like this is. It's not. I. I don't know if MK Ultra is still active.
A
It's around this time. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
C
It's like some sort of weird social experiment side.
B
I don't think MK Ultra ever stopped. I think it just didn't. You know, we can either confirm. I. You know what, you know what, Riley? I like where your head's at. I would say that is more likely than it being a flesh and blood creature running around like to me, like I'm. I'm paranoid these days.
C
So like, yeah, especially those glowing red eyes. Like it feels like maybe some sort of like you know, early night vision goggles, like infrared camera and like the, I don't know, the weird pointy, like maybe those are little helmet antenna. I mean who, who knows? I'm just like riffing on this idea,
A
but I had the same thought while reading this. It's so strange that I can see a world where they're running some sort of psyop in a small town to be like how will people react? Or what are we doing here? You know, I. I don't know this stuff, but again, this stuff happens, you know what I mean? And we don't know. We don't know what the hell it is and we're not going to know any more about what it is. We might have more developed theories, but we won't know by the end of this story. We're never going to know. One thing that I didn't really touch upon, that I hinted at the beginning of this is there were groups of these things seen on a number of occasions people would talk about. They'd be driving down the road and out in the field they would see two or three of these tall beings hanging out like lounging in the grass. Sometimes they saw creatures that were only 4 or 5ft tall, which would imply some juveniles, they'd say. We saw two lounging in the grass and one was standing looking around, obviously kind of keeping guard for the ones that were sleeping or resting. A lot of daytime sightings too were happening. It's not all just at night. It's not all just around UFO activity at night. So we'll get into it more next week and we're going to come back to this, this big case that Steve has hinted about. Steve, how excited are you to get into what we're going to talk about today?
B
I couldn't be more excited. This is, you know, as you know, I am such a fan of southwestern Pennsylvania weirdness. It's one of the spots where it happens, folks. Like, I think top three. I put this top five in the world, but I put it definitely in the top three in the lower 48
A
in terms of locations of high strangeness.
B
Absolutely.
A
Where. So what, what would be, what would be in the. That top ranking along with it?
B
Oh, I, I'm going to go with the controversial one, which wouldn't be on most people's list. Southern Wisconsin, southwestern Pennsylvania, and Pulaski County, Kentucky.
A
Okay. What's controversial about those choices?
B
I think most people wouldn't say southern Wisconsin, but, you know, over the course of the next year, my podcast, I'm gonna make it abundantly clear to people that Wisconsin is, if not the weirdest, one of the weirdest states.
A
Beast of Bray Road, anyone?
B
Mm, mm, mm.
A
Are you going out to the locations where the Beast of Brave Road happened?
B
I've already been there, like twice, dude.
A
Oh, boy.
B
I mean, no, I go to Wisconsin every summer just to vacation. I, I'm like, obsessed that it might be my next move. But, yeah, I have been to a lot of these spots. It's okay. Gorgeous.
A
Very excited about this. And then the other one was Kentucky.
B
Pulaski County, Kentucky. Yep.
A
What happened there?
B
Like, everything. I mean, first off, it's one. They call it the. What's it called? It's got some. The something Anomaly. The Kentucky anomaly. It has one of the biggest pieces of quartz underneath. So it basically has this giant PZO electric effect. I think that in Sedona are the two biggest. But it's right on the 37th parallel. Long history. Long history of Bigfoot, disincounted voices, UFOs, weird political crime, like true crime. And it's got everything. It's so deeply weird.
A
Riley's waving at us. I, I. What happened? Are you good?
C
Nova? Unpleasant no. 1.
A
We have interference from Nova, everyone's favorite. Nova got so much love in one of our episodes a couple weeks back, and now he's just laying under the desk unplugging Riley's cords.
C
Nova, plug my interface. I'm back.
A
You know what? It's the Beast of Bray Studio.
C
Dude, seriously, he's getting so ornery.
B
He's just like the Beast of Riley. Bray Studio?
C
Yeah, I allowed him onto the bed one time and now he's just like at night he's like will not allow sleep if he is not sleeping on the foot of the bed. It's ridiculous.
A
Riley, check your mic cord because now it sounds like you're coming over your computer mic and not your smooth mic.
C
Yeah, I probably am. I think. Let's stop.
A
We'll just stop here, everybody. We'll be right back.
B
Yeah, grab a snack.
A
Okay, so what happened was Nova unplugged a cord under Riley's studio. We don't know how much ended up in the episode, but we had to take a quick break. Sorry.
C
Somehow while sleeping, he managed to unplug my interface. He's really. He's really going into prime form in his old age here.
A
Riley, do you think. Old man, we just joked about him being the Beast of Bray Studio, but do you think that maybe Nova's been the ghost in the machine this whole time on the podcast?
C
Just a delightful scamp pulling out cables? Yes, I do.
B
Great use of scamp, by the way. Wow.
A
Yeah, I think that's the first time I've heard the term scamp outside of like a Tom and Jerry cartoon maybe ever.
C
Look, ever since I gave up streaming, I've been watching a lot of really old movies on Blu Ray. Yeah, you're about to get some transatlantic slang.
A
Soon he's gonna stop coming on talking like this.
B
Riley, is that a filterless cigarette you're smoking?
C
My God, you're right, Steve. One recommended by two out of three doctors for pregnant women.
A
Riley, I noticed you've been nerves sporting a lot of finger waves lately in your hair. It's not a bad look.
C
Let's wrap this up boys. I need to see my haberdasher.
A
All right, here we go everybody. Let's dive into some high strangeness. All right, you boys ready?
C
Let's get into it.
A
Here we go. When we last left off, it was August 1973 and there was high strangeness afoot in Pennsylvania. Over the course of the year, the people of Westmoreland county were experiencing an uptick in UFO activity which coincided with sightings of 8 to 10 foot tall hairy creatures with pointy ears, glowing red eyes, who left behind large three toed footprints. In their wake, 26 year old Stan Gordon and his team of plucky paranormal investigators known as the Westmoreland County UFO Study Group or WCUFO sg were taking Calls daily reporting highly unusual activity involving strange lights and cryptid sightings all around the area. The amount of reports were overwhelming and things were still heating up in the dog days of summer. Let us return to this moment in time and continue our peek into the strange flap that we call The Pennsylvania Bigfoot. UFO Invasion Part 2. On August 28, 1973, Stan Gordon arrived at the Beach Hill homes of a woman he called Tanya Lake. Now I'm just going to pause and say that all of these names are pseudonyms because most of these people did not want to seem crazy because of the old stigma of I report a UFO and a book a Bigfoot together, people are going to think I'm cuckoo bananas. So Tanya Lake is the name that he gives this woman and every other name we're going to hear is not the real person person's real name. Now Steve might have a little insight to some of this as we get down. You got a little tidbit I know, yeah.
C
Tanya Lake sounds like the host of a trashy daytime TV show.
A
Tanya Lake is on her like third affair during her fifth marriage.
B
Yes.
A
Earlier that morning Tanya had phoned Gordon's hotline after fleeing. I now just keep picturing like one of those like 80s rap dresses that like, you know, with the plunging V neckline, pearls and like a real Cybil shepherd like blowout.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Luxurious, very dynasty feathered.
A
Yes, I'm in love with Tanya Lake.
B
Yeah, I was gonna say like I'm falling for her.
C
Okay.
B
I do love her. Yes.
A
Can we call the music for this episode, Riley, Tanya's theme?
B
Sure.
C
Okay, done.
A
So Tanya had phoned Gordon's hotline after fleeing her home because she came face to face with a tall ape like creature with reddish orange eyes and fangs. It was around 3am When Tanya heard a strange owl like screech coming from her yard. She turned on the light and the tall hairy figure rose from a crouched position outside of her window and stared directly at her. Gordon arrived later that morning to investigate the scene. There a police officer informed him of a of giant three toed tracks they had found around the house. This was just two weeks after Gordon had found his second three toed track with similar markings in Hutchinson. And those two weeks had been rife with high strangeness. Tanya Lake's story mirrored an account that had taken place at the home of sue mace of Derry, Pennsylvania on August 21st around 2:30am Sue Grace. Sue Mace, excuse me, had been sleeping. It doesn't, it doesn't matter. It's a Made up name. We can call her Mace or Grace. It doesn't matter. I like Mace because she sounds like she does. Not around Sue. Mace had been sleeping with her bedroom window next. With her bedroom window open next to the bed and the drapes parted to let in the cool night air, she awoke with a start to see a tall creature peering at her from only three feet away. Sue's window was nine feet from the ground, and she noted that the monster was so tall that it actually had to bend down to get a look at her. That's pretty wild. I mean, these things. These things are tall. We're talking like, we keep getting reports of like 10 to 11 foot tall, lanky, hairy creatures.
B
Yeah. This isn't the shack size. That's. That's child's play. These are real deal.
A
This is a real deal. Yeah. This makes Shaq look like a Polly Pocket accessory.
C
Okay.
A
According to Sue. And get ready, Steve, because you got a roll coming up here.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
The creature had a round face and dark hair. In Stan Gordon's notes, Sue got a fairly detailed look at the part of the face that she could see. And this is Stan's. These are Stan's field notes right here.
B
And I'm going to do my best Stan Gordon impression. You know, red leather, yellow leather. Okay, here we go. The nose was flat and pushed back and similar to a gorilla. The eyes were more round and then oval, and it seemed deep set in the cheekbones. The eyes were dark with no whites and eyelids. Eyelashes or eyebrows were seen. Underneath the eyes were wrinkles or layers of skin which looked almost burnt. The skin around the eyes and nose appeared to be flesh colored.
A
First of all, I love the idea of this guy showing up at every police investigation and asking questions. And they love him.
B
I think I was 71 there.
A
I think you should play Stan Gordon in the biopic.
B
I did it. I mean, look, if anyone has a million dollars, we can do this.
A
We can do it right now.
B
Yeah.
A
We'll stop this episode and we'll go make that movie.
B
We need the work.
A
As the creature dipped away from sue from view, sue ran to her teenage daughter's room, who told her mother that she'd seen an elongated shadow of a tall creature with wipe across her bedroom wall. The night before, they had heard strange metallic sounds, like metal rubbing on metal or the rattling of a tin can that had made their dogs go crazy. These strange metal on metal sounds would be reported by other eyewitnesses throughout the year. And this event was followed by the presence Of a horrible stench that remained in the house for days. Again, a sulfur stink in the air. And Stan Gordon said that when he went to talk to the family, the smell was still hanging around. He could smell it.
C
Whoa.
B
Oh.
A
The 10 foot tall peeping tom had been turning up in people's yards all over the county in late August, Peering into windows, leaving claw marks on windows. And in at least one case, walking along the roof of a home in Allegheny county, A rattled man called the WCUFOSG member and Ken R. Get pretty good at that.
B
Better. It's getting better.
A
Ken r. Who upon arriving at the man's house, found him armed with a shotgun and bible in the company of his frightened wife and cowering German shepherd.
C
And what a scene.
A
The man. There's a monster.
B
So Lynchian. It really is.
A
The man claimed that a hairy creature with glowing green eyes had been tossing heavy stones out of the field towards their house. And he called it a devil. He was like, the devil is outside of my house throwing rocks at us. Now, this is also, I want to take note the first time that I think, at least in the series, that we've heard of one of these creatures having glowing green eyes instead of red eyes or reddish orange eyes. And that's going to come into play in a little bit. Ken had been able to collect a few stinky hair samples and and called Stan Gordon. Ken told Gordon that he'd mail him the hair samples along with his field report, but they never arrived. Ken mailed a second hair sample to Gordon, Walking the envelope down to the post office himself, and still the evidence never made its way into Gordon's hands. It was around this time that Stan Gordon began to wonder if someone was interfering with the WC UFOSGS investigation into all of the strange Bigfoot UFO activity. Gordon claims that in one phone conversation during which he and Ken were puzzling over the missing evidence, they were startled to hear a massive eruption of electrical interference drowning out one another's voices. As the weeks went by, this electronic interference kept happening. Seemingly whenever Stan Gordon was on the phone talking with someone about this case, Ken told Stan that during these instances, Gordon's voice became so electric and robotic that it was difficult to make out anything that he was trying to say. Not too long after the evidence went missing, Ken came home one afternoon to discover that all of the reports that he had collected from that summer had vanished from his file cabinet. Everything else was there, but the folder with, like, all of this stuff was just gone. Dude, Someone or something had been tampering with Their investigation sounds like Nova may
C
have been under his death.
A
All it was. Check the white husky. What's he got in his mouth? There does seem to have been some kind of interference from at least one unknown actor stealing or destroying evidence. On August 24, a woman reported a large hairy creature stripping the electrical lines away from her mobile home in Superior. It was around 11:30 at night when a woman called Beverly Burns again. Another.
C
She comes on right after.
A
Yeah,
C
it's the, it's the afternoon block.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
These are all like the women that Stan Gordon has daydreamt about, like, feel like. I feel like Beverly Burns is an animal handler. And like in Stan Gordon's fantasies, like she is with him on every case, you know what I mean? And he. Or, or like he's sending it, he's sending the evidence to Beverly Burns's lab. And every time he goes to like pick up the evidence or get a report, they have like a little, a little flirtation, you know, the lingering scent
C
of perfume on the floor.
A
Yeah, yeah. There is a strange smell to this hair. And I think it's love. So Beverly Burns and her son heard strange sounds outside of Beverly's mobile home, located in the Superior Mobile Home court. They'd heard what sounded like high pitched cries of a baby.
C
There it is.
A
We get that all the time in these cases with Bigfoot. And shortly after that, the lights in the mobile home started flickering and Beverly and her son looked out the window to see a dark, hairy husky. She described him as husky. He was like. This one was only like 5 or 6ft tall and husky figure. Pulling electrical lines away from her home.
C
What?
A
Beverly screamed and her son went to grab his gun. But by the time he went outside, the creature was gone, leaving behind only some odd footprints, some scratch marks on the side of her trailer, and the stench of, you guessed it, sulfur in the air. On August 28, the same day that Stan Gordon had gone out to Beach Hill to investigate fresh three toed tracks left at Tanya Lake's house, Gordon received a call from Beverly, who seemed worried about an interaction that she just had. According to Beverly, a man showed up at the trailer park asking about the Bigfoot encounter that she'd already reported to Stan. This man had brown hair, and she noted he wore no glasses and was dressed in a gray jumpsuit or work uniform with a gray belt with some kind of face on it. He identified himself as an investigator from Ohio. She claims that he flashed an ID badge that had his photo and she could make out the words UFO and Ohio on the identification. But Beverly barely had a chance to examine it before he started asking her questions about her husky Bigfoot encounter. He also told Beverly that he was there to pick up the hair samples that she'd collected for Stan Gordon and that he would deliver them to Stan on her behalf. Beverly sheepishly handed over the hair samples, then watch as the man walked over to where a local boat boy was taking Polaroid pictures of the tracks that the creature left behind. The strange man and the gray jumpsuit grabbed the Polaroid picture from the kid, wadded it up, and stuffed it into his pocket. He then took his foot and wiped away the tracks from the dirt, uttered the phrase, it has been destroyed, and promptly sped away in a brown station wagon. This guy gets weirdo of the year award for 1973.
C
Definitely. Yeah. He's really not being discreet about how utterly sus. He is.
B
Yeah, right.
A
Which makes you think that, like, okay, is this part of the performance that he's giving? Like, is that part of the act to, like, Right. Show up and act weird?
B
Well, I will say this. I mean, are we. Do we have a moment to discuss what we're talking?
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. Okay. Like, I wrote down, this particular case has all the big motifs and hallmarks of a UFO sighting. Right. Even though it was, like, mostly a Bigfoot situation. Like, the metal on metal sound is something people hear in conjunction with UFOs. Also, that's something people hear in the forest. And I will say I spent the night in the cave in Kentucky this summer and heard that noise.
C
Whoa.
A
Now, why are you sleeping in a cave in Kentucky?
B
We'll talk about it after class. No, but I'm not even joking. And it's. It messed me up. Also electrical interferences with the voice and stuff like that. The baby cries. John Keel talked about the baby. His two biggest things were car door slamming in. The baby cries. Yeah, you hear that with all high strangers. And this. The guy who visited, if he had been wearing a black suit, it would be a classic. Men in black.
A
100%.
C
Totally.
A
I mean, and the. The other weird thing that he did was, I guess, when he. He walked up to the boy who was taking. Because she. Stan Gordon said that, like, this case got around the mobile park. Obviously, people were excited, and there were, like, locals coming around doing looky loos. And this is also something else that. That Keel talks about. And we're getting into. We really are getting into some mothman prophecies, like, areas here, because I remember when Woody Darenberg burger had his Indra Cold Encounter. They said that like people would come by his house because UFOs were like showing up over his house.
B
Yeah.
A
So this kid. There were kids coming by. There were people coming by the mobile park. And this kid was taking a picture. And Beverly said that the guy walked up and. And he was like, what are you doing? He says, I've taken a picture. And he says, you've taken. He said something to the effect of, you have taken my picture. And then he took it away from him and crumpled it up.
B
Oh my God.
A
You know, like it belongs to me.
C
Right.
B
I want to say one other thing about mobile homes. This. I cannot remember who said this recently. It was in someone's book I read. But you guys know Wilhelm Reich was. He had the Oregon generator, like, you know, and believed in like the power of like sex, you know, capturing Oregon. Well, someone was saying that like the. Maybe the reason there's so many dramatic UFO signs and big with signs in trailer parks, because a trailer is this metal thing that captures sexual energy is an Orgone generator. And I thought that idea was so fun.
A
They're just boxes teeming with Tanya Lake energy.
B
Yes.
C
Steamy.
B
They're little Oregon boxes.
A
It's also very Twin Peaks. Firewalk with me.
B
100% electricity. Oh my God. I'm Sing Harry Dunstan.
A
I know. So whoever this man was, he was never seen again. Nor were the hair samples collected from the Superior Mobile Home Court. The other weird thing that happened that I don't have here written down specifically was there was another instance in August where I think it may have been Ken or Stan. And who's. Isn't there a. Another guy on the team called Kurtz or Klutz, what's his name? Thank you. Yeah, that. I think those guys had collected some plaster casts of these three toed prints. And as they were drying, drop drying, they got a call that some activity was. Because again, I feel like the phone was just like their. Their phones were ringing off the hook.
B
Yeah.
A
And I also don't know how people were getting phone calls out in the field before for cell phones, but they were alerted to another case happening. So they're like, okay, we'll let these tracks dry and we'll go check out this other thing. We'll come back and get the. Get the plaster casts. And when they returned, the cast had dried, but they had been. Someone came and broke them all, shattered them all. Could have been some rowdy teenagers, but also kind of just another. You know, you gotta kind of take note of like evidence being destroyed in that in that case as well.
C
Sure, sure.
A
So, speaking of the Mothman, during late August, September and October, new cryptid sightings occurred. This were sightings that did not fall into the big hairy ape category necessarily. The first was a notable Bigfoot sighting that took place on Aug 24, 1973 at 11:30pm A particularly active day this year. In fact, this happened at the same time the attack was taking place at Beverly's house at the mobile home court. A man in Claridge, Pennsylvania was pulling up to his his house when a five foot tall bulky creature with gray hair and white spots stepped into the headlight beams of his car and crossed the road. The driver flipped a and to get a better look pull the ua.
B
I. I love that. I mean, I'm just gonna imagine Stan wrote that.
A
No, he didn't. It's all me.
B
I know, I know, but it's amazing.
A
I'm sure this is a problematic phrase now, but it's still fun to say.
B
Fine.
A
He turned around. He could see the creature standing next to a telephone pole for a few moments before walking off into the woods. And I made note of this one because it is a gray creature with white polka dots on it. The WC UFOSG investigated the area and flooded found three toed tracks on the hillside along with some thick branches broken off some tall pine trees. And it's one of those things where they, they, you know, jump up, try to pull these things down and they can't break them with their bare hands. So something big came through and broke off those branches. And then there was another case that involved the sighting of a half human, half dog like creature with a hump on its back that showed up on someone's front porch. Farmers in Lancaster county were calling in reports about a grayish bipedal creature with a white mane, curved horns, tiger like fangs and grizzly claws in their fields. In one encounter, a farmer claimed that the creature grabbed a scythe out of his hand. And another woman claimed to have a run in with the creature after it stole one of her geese. The creature, she chased it, she was chasing the creature and the creature retaliated by throwing the goose at her.
B
Sorry.
A
And then over in Dongle there were reports of a manlike creature with giant wings flying around the night skies.
C
Good lord.
A
A lot of people saw this weird horned white maned creature like this was that was happening like over the course of week in Lancaster.
B
The sheer diversity is amazing. And I will also add really quick, just so listeners know, this is not far from Point Pleasant where this is happening, it's under two hours and also about an hour 20 minutes away from here in Ohio. A couple years later, they were having in tons of three toed prints as well.
A
Really?
B
Yeah. So this is a thing, this general area of the United States.
A
God, these three toed track things are just so. This really does. All of this stuff really does sort of for me, throw out the relic hominid.
B
Yeah.
A
I mean it. I don't think these things are the same thing as like the, the Bigfoot in Pacific Northwest. I don't.
B
They feel different.
C
Yeah, it's very like Dungeons and Dragons creatures.
B
Yeah.
C
They're more interesting inside of a Black Sabbath lp.
B
Absolutely.
A
Oh, yeah.
C
Yes.
A
Yeah. Where's your head at so far, Riley? Hearing all this stuff?
C
I mean, I like these creatures. It's just, I mean, not to overuse the term, but it's so metal.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's metal, it's psychedelic. It's kind of hitting all the notes, you know?
A
Yeah, 100%. Now I have to take a minute to remind our listeners that reports of cryptids were coming in almost every single day, sometimes multiple times a day, during the months of August 20, September and October. And the thing that we should note is even though all of this research is compiled, it's not like all of these people in these rural communities knew about what was going on. This is pre Internet. The news had picked up some of these stories, but not everybody had television, not everybody got the paper. So there were often cases where Stan would note that the people calling in hadn't heard any of the other stories or wouldn't use the term Bigfoot. They would say hairy ape like creature. You know, they're not, they're not using the common cryptid vernacular to describe what they see, which I think adds some, you know, credibility to these, to these eyewitness reports because they don't all know that, that it's happening. You know, they're not piggybacking off on a trend necessarily.
B
Yeah. And just to reiterate what you said, I, I know from, from just experience looking into Newspapers.com about these cases, there's some. But it's, it's maybe like not even 1% of everything. Stan has this book.
A
Yeah.
B
So other than that, I'm not sure how people would find other than word of mouth or the newspaper. So just like, you know, reinforce what you said. Like, I don't think this was like necessarily like a hysteric hysteria thing.
A
No. And we only have these stories because Dan Gordon and the WC UFOSG kept notes. That's where all of this comes from. And they were writing down these cases as they were happening in real time. Most of these never saw the light of day, except for. For the book Silent Invasion. Yes, the UFO activity which seems, which had seemed to have abated earlier that summer, saw a sudden return in activity. While this is a deep dive, there's just no way that we can get into every one of these accounts. And so I would suggest go read the book. Go read Silent Invasion if you want a play. By play I mean page after page after this account happened, this happened, this happened, this happened. However, I do want to point listeners towards two encounters that possibly link the Bigfoot activity and the UFO sightings before we get into tonight night's main course. The first is a report from September 1, 1973. In the small rural county of Penn Township. Three women were driving down a country road when they spotted a large metallic rectangular craft that had landed in a field. As they slowed down the car to observe the object, a doorway suddenly appeared, they said, and spit out steps that descended from the opening of the doorway. The women watched in stunned bemusement as two tall hairy creatures ran out of the craft and darted into the nearby woods. Another event, and this is probably my favorite visual in this entire case, took place on September 27th after. What's that?
B
My birthday.
A
Hey, there you go.
B
It's your favorite. I'm. That makes me be happy that.
A
Yeah, well, it's gonna be your favorite too. And September was a month chalk full of UFO activity. Around 9:30 in the evening, two teenage girls were riding their bikes down a country road in Beaver County. Suddenly, a large white Bigfoot with brownish red eyes stepped into the road carrying a glowing white orb in its his hand. The girls raced home where they told their father what had happened in the woods. And the father, one of the girls, allegedly went down into the woods to look for the creature because it was on his property. And around that same time that he entered the woods, an elongated craft appeared, rose from the tree line and shot a beam of light into the woods like Travis Walton style.
C
Cool.
A
While interviewing the girls about the encounter, WC UFOSG member Bob Boyd said that the father denied going into the woods. He either had no memory of it or he said it did not happen. But the locals that Boyd spoke to said that this man had been acting very strangely after the incident that night and afterwards became very insistent that the end of the world would be arriving in six months time. So he got strange. Now this wouldn't be the only doomsday prophecy received by an alleged eyewitness, as we will soon discuss right after this break. Okay, everybody, so for this chapter, we're gonna shake things up just a little. Instead of reading a scripted version of this story that I wrote, which I pretty much did back in BCC episode 127, I want to turn things over to our guest Steve and let him tell us in his own words what occurred on the night of October 25, 1973 in Fayette County. Steve, the floor is now yours.
B
All right, pull up a chair, get something warm to drink. Listeners, we're gonna tell a little story about high strangeness in southwestern Pennsylvania. So like Michael beautifully said, it was October 25, 1973, and the police barracks just outside on the outskirts of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, which is kind of a small town, around 10,000, receives this phone call from another officer who is kind of new to Fayette County. And he sounded rattled. And he goes on to say, we saw this large red object over a farm field just outside of Uniontown. And so we need investigation gear, whichever. I'm not exactly sure what all that entailed, but.
A
Flashlight.
B
A flashlight and maybe a half a pack of smoke, you know, a donut or two. But y' all need to get out here because some weird stuff's happening and I'm not sure what to do.
A
Calling donuts investigation gear is like, great, well, we gotta swing by, get our investigation gear.
B
Make sure the jelly of the coffee. This calls for a jelly, boys. But. So what happened was this police officer and about two other cars full of people were driving. And I know exactly where the driven around there were driving on this. This kind of like two lane highway going past these kind of, you know, farms. And they see this red object hanging over the farm field. And so two of the boys, I can't remember their pseudonyms. I know one of the real names, which I'll. I don't know if I'll divulge it at the end, but whatever, whatever.
A
Go ahead.
B
Yeah, he's not with us anymore. I don't want to interrupt his family. Anyways, sure they see this object. So what they do, they. They go to get a closer look, these two boys and now.
A
Are these the Palmer boys? Yeah, it was the Palmer farm.
B
Yeah.
A
Well, there you go.
B
No, no, no.
A
These are the pseudonyms. I'm checking the notes.
B
You're. You're exactly right. Yeah, that. That's the Palmer boys. And so they go to get a closer look and they see this when they, you know, Kind of cut into the chase. They see by the barn this red, kind of spherical, almost disc shaped object that's just really bright red sitting there right by the barn. And they're like just transfixed on this thing. And then shortly later, they kind of hear these baby screams. Here comes the baby cries again. And up on coming along, their barn is this, or their farm field is this fence line. And they see these two hairy covered creatures with bright red eyes making like baby sounds. I think one was taller and one was a little bit shorter, right?
A
Yeah. And they're walking along the fence line and they said that as they watched the one, the taller one leading the smaller one would walk up to a fence post, wait for the other one to catch up to that fence post, and then walk to the next fence post. So they're walking in this sort of like not relay pattern, but just this strange thing where the other one's to going, clearly waiting for the other one to catch up from.
B
I'm. I'm getting mommy. I'm getting mommy vibes on this.
A
Totally.
B
You know, like, okay, little Pete, you know, go smell that fence post and then let's catch up. But as they're coming up, one of the boys has a. His rifle. He brought his rifle with him to go when they went to go investigate this. And he loads some tracer rounds in there. And I'm not a gun guy, but I'm. I'm. Tracer rounds are just like rounds that you can see at night, Right. They're. They're not, they. There's no payload.
C
Literally a tracer. No, I.
B
Okay.
C
I don't know if there's a payload.
B
Okay.
C
I thought tracer rounds just had the addition that you could watch the trail. I'll look at.
B
Yeah, I, I don't know. I'm not. Don't know much about ammunition anyways. Fires it into it and it makes. And Michael, if I'm remembering correctly, the sound it makes sounds like it's hitting a puddle of water. Yeah. Which I love that detail. I think that's incredible. And they kind of make, you know, I think the whining, the kind of baby cries start ramping up. Then he loads just regular, regular rounds into it. Takes another couple more pop shots. Again, it sounds like water. And then these kind of creatures eventually turn around and walk back down the fence line.
A
Yeah.
B
Then they look over at the craft that was sitting by the barn and it's vanished. Right?
A
Yes. And the craft at this point looks like a glowing white dome sitting in the field. Like it went, it goes from this red craft, hovering, and then it suddenly like morphs into a dome. And the creatures, they didn't see the creatures come out of this thing. They're looking at the white dome and then they hear the sounds and look down to the right and they see them walking up the fence line here. So they are seen in the same location at the same time, but not necessarily emerging. Emerging from this white dome that the craft has become. But Steve's 100. Correct. This thing doesn't take back off into the sky. It just literally vanishes into thin air.
B
Right, right.
C
Confirming tracer rounds are live ammunition.
B
They are live action. Okay, okay, I didn't know that. So I wonder why just shooting. I mean, you know, it was a shoot first type of decade, I think 70s were, but so when this thing vanishes, it does something that I don't know if I've ever heard in another UFO case in my entire life. It leaves what I'm going to call a giant puddle of light. So much for to fast forward just a tiny bit. Like when the police actually arrived, they said it was so bright, this like residue of light. You could read a newspaper by it. Yeah, and like it is pitch black out. I mean like rural, like Pennsylvania. I mean, dude, it is like not, you know, you can't see your hand in front of your face. Like, I know the area they're talking about is no light pollution out there.
A
So yeah, imagine it's not necessarily crop circle because the crops haven't been burned, but just imagine like a glowing white crop circle that is illuminated in the middle of this field, like very bright.
B
So eventually what, what does happen is that the, the police get there, they start investigating and like I said, when the first, first things they talk about that really freaked out the senior police officer was that was the light residue because they were like, like what could that be? You know. So I think right away the police officers definitely believe something weird was happening. Shortly thereafter, luckily, Stan Gordon and his team.
A
Yeah, we've got George Lutz who's a former Air Force pilot. Fred Pitt who's a photographer. David Smith, who's a physics teacher at the west. And the Westmoreland County Civil Defense radiation defense officer Dennis Smeltzer and who was also. Oh, who. That was David Smith. So he's a physics teacher and this like radiation defense officer, which means he's got like the Geiger counter. He's the one coming with the gadgets. He's the. I think David Smith is the Egon Spangler. Of the crew. And then you've got Dennis Smelter, who's a sociology major along with Stan. So he's got pretty much the whole team out there.
B
This a crack team?
C
Absolutely.
A
Yeah. And because they want to come and measure radiation, they hear that there's a glowing circle out there. They're like, we got to find out if there's any, what, what signals this thing is giving.
C
Grab your jelly donuts and your Geiger counters.
A
The police are just tossing donuts into the circle to see if they'll levitate,
B
see if they'll eat a jelly man.
A
They come down there and they see them like floating through the circle trying to catch the, catch the, the donuts with their open mouths.
B
I mean, just from a cinematic aspect, you know, like imagining this crack team of legends walking over the hill in like brown trench coats, probably like flicking a, you know, almost smoked cigarette out in the field, just ready to get down to business.
A
Yeah.
B
And, and kind of. So what, what happens is the father of. Go ahead, Michael.
A
So there's the, there's the father is the Mr. Palmer senior, who I think is. He calls Steve Palmer senior. Then there's his son, Steve Palmer, who's like 20. And then there are a couple neighborhood boys. And then there are also other just neighbors who are, who are scattered around, around this field houses, you know, pretty sporadically that are getting involved in seeing this stuff.
B
And if memory serves, I believe it was 15 witnesses saw this thing. Right? I mean like, so it was like, I think three, a couple police officers, this family, other families. I think one of the cousins that was related to the Palmer and Steve
A
Palmer, the 20 year, 20 year old guy with the truck is driving from house to house basically being like, do you see this? You see, see what's going on? Getting like, getting everyone's reaction. And that's when he picks up like the two boys and they drive down to get a closer look. And that's when they see the monsters and all that stuff.
B
Exactly, exactly. So when the police officers arrive and Stan and his crack team arrive, the boy who, who kind of was closest to the creatures and closest to the craft, Steve Jr. Started going a little weird. Like he started kind of going into convulsions. I mean like, honestly, it sounds like he was like possessed. You know, for all intents and purposes, it looked, felt and seemed like a possession. He was talking in these guttural noises. He was having these visions of an apocalypse.
A
He was growling, growling and acting feral as they were walking around with him in the woods. Looking for these creatures. He just starts going, oh. And like shaking and convulsing and they're like, what the. Going on with Steve? What's happening?
B
Right. And they said like it, it was so loud and so unhuman. Like they were really were like not sure how this was coming out of a human being. Like it was so like almost echoey. It sounded unhuman, you know, like not
C
just kind of like.
B
Right, yeah. Like it's like where the, the treble and the base are like messed up and someone's like, you know, sound mix, you know, like it just did sound so unnatural. So that was very disturbing. He kindly, as he comes out of his convulsions, he takes his, he has really thick glasses, like he was almost legally blind. Takes his glasses off, doesn't need them anymore. Claims he can see perfectly.
A
Yep. He's got superpowers now.
B
Right. And, and the, the really it's important. Important. The visions he thought were just like absolutely apocalyptic.
A
He said that there was a man in a dark robe who kind of looked like the grin reaper again. A sort of man in black figure appeared and started showing him all of these end times and apocalyptic visions and, and all while he's growling and people around him are seeing him freak the out. He, he's like in the like astral plane getting these images beamed at him.
B
Yeah, right. I mean, and this like apparently, you know, according to Stan and because there's some interviews with Stan where he has spoken about it more in more modern times and he's like this absolutely turned Steve Jr's life upside down like completely. And he had, he had all these kind of like almost like superpower effects as well. He would like be able to point to a blue jay that was like far away in a tree and say like that blue jay is going to come land on my shoulder. And it would. And other birds would like he could call to a bird and they would come land on him.
A
He would sit down with a friend on his porch and be like, I don't want these powers. I don't want to be able to do this. Like it freaked him out. And I think they also had the typical poltergeist activity in the house. I think orbs were seen floating in and around the house. Like all this stuff that we often hear that are long lasting effects from people who've had a quote unquote alien abduction event.
B
That's exactly right. Yeah. He was basically inundated with this stuff. It never let the, the psychic residue after this event really One of the most, the highest levels I've ever heard of from an experiencer. Like he was pretty tortured. He. So I was able to find out who it was exactly in his name. I'm not gonna. His name is George. I'm not gonna give out his last name. If you really want to find out, you can find out through newspapers dot com. It's not very hard. But he died young. He died like at 42. He, you know, and a really good friend of mine, a colleague, I'll say was about a year ago and a
A
colleague of ours too.
B
A colleague of yours too. I, I won't say his name in case I want people bugging him. But he was reached out and he, he did some verification did find out that it was George's son. But George's son reached out to him and said, I heard the episode you did about my father. That was my dad. He did not talk about it much. It really disturbed him. It was not a great thing for him. And then when my friend tried to do more follow ups. Oh, can I interview you and stuff, he just ghosted. He like left. It was never to be heard from again. Wow. But he was able to find that had the set, same last name as the father. And you know, if you do a little sleuthing, you can definitely trace things. And he was able to trace it. It really was his son. So his son's out there and verified his father's story. But basically wasn't like thinking it was cool. He's like, yeah, this destroyed my dad.
A
Yes. Dan Gordon and George Lutt stayed in touch with, with, with him until he died. And they said every few years they'd go out to Uniontown and talk to him. And, and he, his story really didn't change. He was pretty reticent to talk about it. He said on certain occasions he'd open up and share some ESP events that he had. But he was, he was pretty reluctant and kind of freaked out by the entire thing. And they had tapes they were playing when they, when they came to the farm on the 25th. The WCUFOSG had tape. They were running a tape recorder the whole time. So they had George or AKA Steve Palmer on, on tape making all of these sounds and, and going crazy.
B
Right?
C
Yeah. Exist anywhere. Can that.
B
It does hear that. So Stan has the audio tape still. Timothy Renner, who's like a wonderful investor
A
where the Foot Burns End.
B
Yeah. Unbelievably great Pennsylvanian investigator has reached out and beg Stan. He's like, can I just Hear him. But Stan's like, I had them. No, I promised the family. And Stan's like an old school guy.
C
Yeah, fair enough.
B
As integrity. So he will not give up the tapes. He really wouldn't give up any names, but they exist. And Timothy Renner is like. It's like his white whale. He's been trying to.
A
He wants to hear it. I know that's such an important. Especially now that I think like major players have passed. Like, I do hope that at one point we have that because that's like the. The real time documentation of this event. It would be. And they also said that in Stan and George and the team arrived after the. The UFO or the object had vanished. But they also said there was like this whirring sound that was coming out of that dome while the baby crying Bigfoots were walking up along the fence. And George said, or Stan said that when they got there, it wasn't. The circle of light wasn't as bright, but it was. There was still a faint glow in that circle, kind of like, you know, when the glow in the dark sticker starts to fade a little bit. I sort of imagine it like that where they still said that they could see the distinct circle where it had been, but it dimmed over time until. Until eventually just went away.
B
You know, it also. Stan does mention in the book that the investigators, I think there was four or five of them. Every one of them, two especially were. Had this unnatural sense of dread and fear. Like they were just. They're. And they've been in a lot of investigations. They've been doing this for years. But this one was like, they were all like horrified and they really weren't sure why.
A
And one of them, I think got started feeling sick and had to go home early.
B
It said the smell, the odor was really bad.
A
And they did take radiation samples and didn't find anything completely unusual in the circle. I think it was just sort of like normal or just above normal radiation, you know, you know, levels. But yeah, we. Again, we have this sort of like. Is it the infrasound thing where suddenly people are feeling scared and sick and off, you know, feeling offput. But those creatures, they. They could hear them walking around in the woods and they could still hear their cries, but they never tracked. They could never track them down. And partly the reason why they got distracted was because George started or. Yeah, Steve Palmer, AKA George, started freaking out.
B
Yeah. Losing it. Yeah. I mean, it's one of those cases where there's 15 witnesses. They were able to investigate A couple hours after it actually happened. It's really like to me I'm like I cannot think of many more cases that, that have had like first off such weird stuff. But they were investigated so shortly after was 15 separate, like 15 witnesses. And I think that comprises of four different separate groups from four different vantage points. So I mean this case really is. I mean like I'd be hard pressed to find a better case like you know, ever. Like it's really one of the greatest ones. It's so weird. It's juicy. There was. They saw some of the evidence, the lights. Like how would a couple farmers create a light residue that no could figure out where it was coming from? I think it's a.
C
Possibly wouldn't happen. Yeah, totally.
A
Yeah. And it's got the ufo, it's got the Bigfoot. Like it's, it's another like it's got. Everything is connected in this particular case. Now Steve, when you win out to this area because you've, you've been to the field, correct?
B
I have, I have, I have.
A
What did you learn on that trip?
B
Well, you know, so I was able to kind of from the. There's on a newspapers.com they have a tiny little map in the original like news printing and I was able to kind of take that map and lay it over Google Earth and find. I was like oh those roads are a little different now but it points to the same place. So I went out there. Sure enough I was able to go corroborate it with another investor. Like yep, that is the, that's the barn, that's the field. And so I did go. What I noticed was it's, it's definitely a little more built up. There's some newer farms. So but like if you can just picture it it would have been really in the middle of nowhere. Like you know, there's a two lane highway that's very hilly going around but it's a huge field. What the barn is still there. I could send you a little two minute video I made if you want to post it.
A
Put it up on. We'll put it up on the Patreon.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
Everybody.
B
Yeah, yeah. So they can just kind of check it out and like look behind me to see. You know it's kind of fun to see that stuff but like it was genuinely like obviously like I'm, I'm weird and I feel the magical place when I go to these areas. But like it was unbelievable. Like this is. It was a bucket list location to visit if anyone ever Wants to go, hit me up. I'll tell you exactly where to go.
A
Wow.
B
But it was really cool. I mean, one thing I did notice that everyone who was driving by me was like, slowing down and looking at me like, why is this, like, big? It's weird. It's a weird dude.
C
Like, feeling the vibes.
B
Feeling the vibes.
A
Why is this man crying on the side of the road?
B
And I might have been. I was so moved, man. But, like, you know, eventually I stood out there for like 10, 15 minutes and, you know, took it in. And then, then I went and drove around some other sites. But, like, right around that area is. There's so many. Like, a lot of these reports we're talking about all happened like this area of all the areas, like this general little Five county in Fayette county, honestly, might have been the epicenter of the ufo. Bigfoots.
A
So wild. So did you ever talk to. Have you spoken to Stan Gordon?
B
I have. I've had quite a few email exchanges with him. I've been trying to get him on my show, but he only does. He doesn't do like, zoom. He'll only do it over the landline.
A
Okay.
B
He's old school, so I'm like, I don't. I need to. I need to get it done. But he's great with that. Can you. Thank you. Yeah, I'll get an interview with that. Let's. Yeah, okay. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. He is so nice and so forthright. He will not answer questions about, like, names. He's just an old school guy with a lot of integrity, which I totally respect. But he doesn't change his story. He doesn't add too much to the stories. But I've just corroborated a couple things that he wrote about and he says it exactly like he wrote it.
A
Well, I was going to say, like, I don't know how much he could add to the stories other than maybe personal opinions, because there's so many small details in Silent Invasion that he gets into. I mean, like, again, this deep dive is really as much as it is a two parter and. And then some. We'll have some spillover on the other side this week. Like, there's a lot there. There's so much there. Sorry, I was just gonna say, like, I think this book and this event is as seminal and as important as something like the Mothman prophecies to fans of high strangeness.
B
Agreed. Agreed. And honestly, if you were to take the two cases, put them side by side, there's way more reports In Salem. Evasion. I mean like way, way more.
A
Also. It's not, we were talking about this Steve the other day, but it's also like not littered with John Keel's like pulp descriptions of women's bodies. You know what I mean?
B
Wearing a dress cut too short, you
A
know, like it's, it's, it's. I feel like this book is going to age a lot better, you know, because it's not written to be. You know, when John Keel was writing they had to throw in a little bit of that sensationalism in it to get the books distributed and sold so they could, they could put them right next to all the pulp, pulp novel and dime store, you know, dime books.
B
Right.
A
But this is just a very straightforward day by day field report by field report with. It's very easy to read, it's very easy to relate to. It's very easy to visualize all these cases. It's really, really fun.
B
Yeah. And if you, you can take this book almost like, if you're like a, you know, legend tripper and love going to like places where this stuff happens, take this book. You can, honestly with most of these cases you can do a little Internet work and find out the general area of where they happened and you can go visit a lot. I mean like for me that's like a dream vacation. You know, take a couple and get a nice Airbnb. You know, maybe you make like a big lasagna right away so you just have some to eat off with, you
A
know, got to make your road lasagna.
B
Exactly. But you know, it really is, I think this book is in terms of a two year period. I mean it's, there's more than the Mothman prophecies. Not to mention a lot of what Keel was getting was secondhand. And through Mary Hire, Stan almost investigated all of these. A lot of most of the time
A
boots on the ground, minutes or hours after they had.
B
That's exactly because he lived in this area and he would go out at three in the morning like. So I think honestly this is the most underrated, high strange book that has ever been written. I think I hope one day this is as popular as the Mothman because it absolutely should be.
A
It should. I agree. Now, while the strange night of October 25th and thank you for that Steve, is by all consideration the best story to come out of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO invasion case of 1973. The story did not end there for another 14 months. UFOs and hairy hominids were spotted in the Westmoreland county area until the flap finally came to a quiet end on December 30, 1974, when a yellow crescent shaped UFO flew over the Mount Lebanon area of Pittsburgh before taking off into the dark skies. Now, there wasn't as much of a volume of sightings across 1974, but they were still happening. While the increase and quite correlation of UFO and Bigfoot sightings in Pennsylvania during this 1973 period do not prove that Bigfoot is an alien or even a UFO occupant, it does suggest that perhaps these phenomena are linked in ways that we could never imagine and have not seen since. When we come back, I'm gonna ask Riley and Steve. What the hell was that?
C
That.
A
All right, boys. What the hell was that? What do you think was happening with this Bigfoot UFO invasion? Riley, what do you think now that you've heard all of this?
C
I mean, for starters, I can't believe that we've done this show this long and I was this like ignorant to this whole story.
A
It's a big one. That even I had not, I had not read this book until we, we did this deep dive and this has been on my list.
B
And even, even the, you know, the Palmer story, while it's definitely gotten more known, it is not mainstream at all. Like, it is still like, you know, it's like Matador. It's for the indie rock world. I would say it's like Matador, where it's. It's known, you know, it's not, it's not super deep cut, but like, you
C
know, a lot of good stuff on there.
B
There's a lot of good stuff. It's like the Yola Tango of Bigfoot.
A
I think when we, when I did the. That story as an individual story of high strangeness back in episode 127, I think I also found the case in the, the like UFO magazine it was printed in at the time.
C
Whoa.
A
And found scanned copies and got the story from that. Because outside of Silent Invasion and the zines printed at the time, I can't remember if it was like saucer review. It was something like that. I'd have to go back and check. This story isn't in a lot of books. Like the source is Stan. The source is this. The source is the source. So that's one of the reasons too. It is an indie cut. You know, it is. They've never made a. There's no movie based on this. There's no. I think the other thing that you can find where this comes up is in the Small town monsters documentary Invasion on Chestnut Ridge, which we watched in the early days of Movie Club. So it's, It's a pretty, like, homemade documentary, but it's, it's good and it's got this story in it. So.
B
Yeah, yeah, and I think, I think you're right. I think that probably did more to propel the story, but still, like we're saying, like, it's like, I bet most of the listeners, like, wait, what?
A
Yeah, this isn't like a case that Steven Spielberg is, like, based a movie on.
B
Should be.
A
Should be. So, Riley, what do you. What do you think this is?
C
I mean, especially that last one too, where there's like an audio tape and there's so many witnesses and there's, you know, physical evidence and there's, you know, this person having this sort of psychic event, and then there's the lasting effects that are corroborated by a family member. It's just like, it's. It's really compelling. And I mean, my mind goes two places of like, this is a legitimately paranormal event, or this is some sort of like, MK Ultra government mind test thing. But this one doesn't even really feel like that to me. It feels, this does feel like, decidedly paranormal. And I don't. I don't know what to make of it. I don't know what, what the hell that was.
A
Yeah.
C
It's also really interesting that these, like, cryptid creatures are not really in any of the sort of traditional categories. There's like sort of big footy, sort of dog Manny, like, but they're all really unique.
A
They're like Scooby Doo villains. They're like Scooby Doo monsters in this one. Really just Hanna Barbera creatures.
C
Yeah. And the fact that this is all happening before mass media before, and they're happening in sort of like, individual accounts. It's not like this one big thing that a bunch of people saw and you're like, oh, well, it's a, you know, kind of mass hysteria. This, that or the other. It's like these are like a bunch of individual things happening all over this region, like, repeatedly over and over with very little connection between the events. It's. I don't know, it's wild. And then having, I mean, having Stan Gordon just, like there in the moment, like, really collecting this stuff right as it's happening, is so unique.
B
Yeah.
C
This is like, this is one of my favorite things we've covered on the show.
A
I'm right there with you.
B
Absolutely.
A
Steve, I, I think you agree with Me, I mean, we basically already said it. I think this is the best high strangeness case of all time.
B
I. I really do. Yeah. I mean, it's like, you know, there may be ones I like a little more for personal reasons, just because the way something looked or felt. But like this idea, this has it all. Yeah, it really does. And like it has the format, like, has all the motifs of that keel and talk about baby cries, you know,
A
like the metal on metal sound. That's the other thing in the Beverly Blake case that. Oh, actually this is something that we're going to get into over on the other side because I have some cases from 1974 that we didn't have time to fit into this. But I, I'll. I'll tease one where there was an eyewitness who talked about he saw like four or five of these creatures walking through the woods after an immediate event and, and noted the way that another eyewitness noted in last week's episode that they walked very awkwardly with their arms were really long, they hung at their sides, but their legs were kind of stiff. And there is this sort of like, were these things mechanical? Were these maybe robots? Because they kept talking about the metal on metal sounds and how awkward sometime these things would move around 100%.
B
And the thing that's so weird, it's like we were seeing Bigfoot or a Bigfoot like creature in the proximity of technology, like hoarding, holding. Like I think I mentioned the last show where it was holding the black box with the red, the red lights and the orb, the orb of light. So these, these seem so supernatural. It's like either these flesh and blood creatures, like every once in a while I get to play with some like, you know, technological toys that we don't know about, but it just, they do not feel flesh and blood. And like I remember, you know, for a long time the reason why Stan's book and his work was never like, nationally known and not taken seriously is because he was reporting these things as they were happening and people did not like that.
A
Yeah, they didn't like how weird they were.
B
The UFO people hated it. The Bigfoot people hated it. The paranormal people hated it. It was roundly disliked because they're like, hey, we're trying to make science like, you know, take us seriously. And here you go with these Bigfoot UFO cases, like, so they thought he was doing a disservice to the field. That has totally changed now where I think a lot of people and more and more so in the future would be like, dude, Stan Gordon was like one of the OGs.
A
I think it takes like our generation of nerds to be like, this stuff is cool because like, this again, is the stuff that. This has got the juice. This is, this is the stuff that I love. I love a white Bigfoot carrying an orb as like a cigar shaped UFO is like possibly beaming people up into a ship. Like, this is what the. Visually, this is what I love, as Riley described. And like, it's just like it's got the juice, it's got the weirdness, the dreamlike high strangeness that I love so much. Yeah.
B
And not to mention I'm. I didn't watch this show because it's a little bit before my time, but there's a show called the Six Million Dollar man and one of the famous episod Steve Austin Lee Majors fights a ufo. Bigfoot.
C
Yeah.
A
Who's a robot?
B
Who's a robot? And I know that came out after this because that was probably more late 70s.
A
Yeah, I think that was 78 or 77.
B
But you almost wonder like, did they hear about Stan Gordon's case? Cause like, you know.
A
Well, it's crazy too how quickly. I mean, this is 73. This isn't that long after the Patterson Gimlin film.
B
Right?
A
This is within five years of that.
B
Yep.
A
And it's so crazy how like the, the, the Bigfoot ephemera of the Pacific Northwest in Northern California is so different from this story. And you would think that if it was some sort of like make them up or some sort of MK Ultra thing or somebody's trying to play a hoax on people that they'd want to make it. They'd try to make it look more like Patty and the Pacific Northwest activity. And this is just its own genre. It's its own genre era.
B
It is. And it falls along the line where the 60s and 70s were just the craziest time for UFOs and Bigfoot and you know, where it was like the very. The variance and what people were seeing in terms of like the UFO occupants. It was all over the map. It was like almost never the same thing. You know, like sometimes they would sound similar, but like we were seeing hundreds of different manifestations. And I, I also like this. Now I'm gonna sound like a crazy person, but like, I hope this thing is important now with us till now.
C
Yeah.
B
Do think it is always important to take into consideration like what was happening culturally in America at the time. We were just getting out of the Vietnam War, the Cold War was now getting Extra scary because there was nuke threat. That was kind of new. There was the oil crisis, there was the grain crisis where farm, all bunch of farmers were in massive economic trouble.
A
Yeah. There was a huge trucker strike happening around this time too. Like the working class was taking, taking a huge hit, you know.
B
Absolutely.
A
It kind of sounds like what we're going through now a bit.
B
It does. And like, you know, and then in the Midwest in these exact years was like massive cattle mutilation situation.
A
Yes.
B
Nebraska, Colorado, Montana, I mean it was like happening so much and I left a bit.
A
That's one thing that I kind of left out of this is there were so many reports, not necessarily like the insane, help me out here, everybody.
B
I can't fit.
A
I can't have the worst time with that word. Like stripped down to the bone, laser style cattle mutilations. But a lot of pets and chickens and other livestock were getting spooked or attacked or killed or stolen during this period too. Like the woman who got a goose thrown at her head. Right, right.
B
And another thing to take into consideration too is that like this area has a such a long history of this weird stuff. And I'm talking about going back into the eight, like 18, mid-1800s. Like Timothy Renner has like so many cases going, you know, they just called it a different thing. They said a hair covered wild man or they say that there was, you know, green fireballs in the sky, you know, but like this weirdness is not new and like it's still happening today. There is a very healthy amount of Bigfoot sightings and UFO sightings to this day in this area. So it remains to be weird.
A
I want them to stay weird and get weirder. I don't want any more normal Bigfoot. I mean, I don't think there's such a thing as a normal Bigfoot sighting, but come on, give me a white mane and some horns, please. Refreshing Wild cherry cola meets smooth cream. The treat you deserve. Pepsi Wild cherry and cream. Treat yourself. This episode is brought to you by State Farm. So I thought it would be fun because we, as we talked about in this week's main Clubhouse episode, there were other things that happened in 1974, that after the events in Fayette county on October 25, that just a few more encounters that jumped out at me that I really liked. So I thought it would be fun. This is a bonus material, a sidetrack episode, if you will, that's a companion to the Deep Dive series. So we'll get into that stuff. But before we do, Riley, let's just take Steve. There's something that we like to do on the other side called Commenters Club. That's when we check in on our friends and see how they've been enjoying the show in general and things like that. They have to say. So what do we have in our brief edition of Commenters Club this week, Riley?
C
We've got some reactions to part one of this. This series. And apparently awesome says, love Steve.
B
A love you too.
C
We do too. We do too, apparently. And they say it was awesome to get another Deep Dive. And. Well, we're glad you're enjoying it. And we're going to keep them cooking.
A
Yeah, here we are. It's still happening for you, apparently awesome.
C
Still diving.
A
Now we have something from Rachel Bussert. I. I got a little clap back from the part one of the episode. Riley, why don't. Why don't you just read what Rachel asked to tell me?
C
Well, Rachel says, mills, how dare you tell me where I can and cannot drink my iced tea.
A
It's all because of that. Of the man who spilled his iced tea in his bathroom. And I said, don't drink your iced tea in the bathroom.
B
You know what?
C
You have your tea wherever you want.
A
And then Unicorn Trista added something to that too.
C
Ice Tea gang, rise up.
A
I'm. I've started the Iced tea uprising. The fabled BCC iced tea uprising. And I'm sorry, you can drink it wherever you want. I just think consuming food products in the bathroom is a little. Little gross. That's all I'm gonna say. Enjoy your own risk.
B
I will say that he kept smelling cucumbers too. Yeah, yeah, like that was a bad thing. That's a great fragrance.
A
So weird. Very strange. And then swinging over. We have to. Our last episode or out there episode Antonio V says I really enjoyed. We're talking about the Paris catacombs, Steve and Antonio. V says I really enjoyed the movie. As above. So below. Have you seen this movie? It's a found footage catacombs movie. I think it's based on this 1990s case where they claim that somebody left. Left a camcorder down in the catacombs and mysteriously disappeared. Antonio says it's how I found out about the catacombs and why I decided to visit them. Last year when I was in Paris. I also went to Greyfriars Kirkyard when I was in Scotland. Heart, eyes emoji and ghost emoji. So. Thank you, Antonio. I. I think we should check that movie out. I don't know.
C
It's awesome.
A
Maybe we could do it as a movie club. I don't know. We're gonna have a movie club coming up soon. I also am toying around. Riley, I know you watched this the other night with, like, dipping back into lynch and doing a Mulholland Drive movie club.
C
Oh, I just ordered it on 4K. Blu Ray, baby.
A
You just ordered it or you just watched it?
C
No, I just ordered it.
A
Okay, great.
C
I did also just stream it, but
A
then I decided I've got the Criterion, I've got the 4K. Yeah, yeah, yeah, got it.
B
I have a couple different formats of every lynch movie. No. I even have my dubbed tapes of Twin Peaks from us.
A
Well, that's so cool.
B
Yeah.
A
There's one box set from Twin Peaks. It's got, like, all the little iconography at the bottom of each, like, the log and the. And the, like, Dictaphone and all that stuff. Oh, man.
B
The original VHS came in a log. Got that.
A
Come on.
C
I've heard of that. I haven't, actually. You have that? Yeah, that is.
B
I have everything. Lynch is my number one favorite human being of all time.
A
Time, man. Did you ever get to meet or work with him? And you met with me.
B
I never gotta work. I gotta meet him two times. And the first time I had a panic attack and Eric Edelstein was holding me up. He had his arm around me and, like, he was literally holding him. I was, like, sweating through my sport coat.
A
Where, in what context did you meet him?
B
Him and I went to a transit. We both do tm. Yeah. And we got invited to, like, this small dinner party event in Beverly Hills.
A
Oh, my gosh.
B
They invited me because they knew. They're like, why did you get into tm? I'm like, because of David Lynch. And they're like, would you like to come meet him. I'm like, huh? And wow. And I did it literally for that chance to meet him.
A
Honestly, man, I had a dream that I met him the other night and I would, I was like trying to get things that he had left for friends and family. Like I was trying to deliver them things that he had left behind for them. I never met him. It sucks.
C
But he met him in a dream that pretty. David lynch, that counts.
B
That's more, that's actually more real.
A
Yeah, it was very, he was, he was like, I'd always known him, you know, in the context of the dream. I was like, oh yeah, David lynch, my, my old friend. Okay, well, we'll figure it out. Maybe, maybe Mulholland Drive, we'll talk about it. Keep your eyes peeled on your emails everybody, and we'll see. Okay, let's head back to Pennsylvania, shall we? For the Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO invasion 1974. So, Steven Riley, as we discussed in part two of our coverage of the Bigfoot UFO invasion of 1973, there was just so much that occurred that we couldn't squeeze everything into two episodes and we still won't. But I wanted to share some of my favorite encounters that did not make the main series. Most of these happened after the Fayette county encounter on October 25 in 73. Specifically, I wanted to take a look at 1974, but there were a few leftovers from the summer of 1973 that I wanted to share that are very fun too. So the first took place on August 26, 1973. If you recall, this was the same week that that dark haired Bigfoot stripped the electrical wiring from the mobile home of Beverly. And two days after that event and in Luxor around 5pm, the Barnes family, as they're called, was enjoying a nice sunny day, shooting some targets out at the local slag dump.
B
As you do,
A
out from the brush came a dark hairy creature. Knowing that his.22 caliber rifle was no match for whatever just exploded from the woods, Mr. Barnes shouted at his wife and daughter to run for their lives. The family ran for about a half a mile, claiming that this creature chased them before that they were finally safe. But the little girl, the daughter, remembers looking back and getting a detailed description of this creature. It was tall, it had red eyes, it had a pug nose, kind of like a gorilla and vampire like fangs. She also noted that while it chased them, it dropped down onto four limbs and it also had the pointy ears. And in fact, you guys may recall in part one, I showed you the Eyewitness drawing. I put it up on the. This one right here. The eyewitness drawing that I put up on the Instagram.
C
Oh, oh, sure, sure.
B
Yeah.
A
That this drawing comes from that. From this case. So this was drawn by one of the Barnes family members describing what they had seen.
B
It looks like the Bigfoot thing. I don't know.
A
You got a shot of me. It wasn't me.
C
I love that. I love when a creature goes from bipedal to running on all fours and it clears that line.
B
Yeah. Because I'm sure you've covered the spider walk. Have you heard about that?
A
No.
B
Where a Bigfoot gets, like, spreads out on all fours. It gets almost like the Exorcist, but really low. It crawls like a spider, like would. I mean, whenever I hear a story about that, like, it troubles me more than anything.
A
Maybe I think I could be wrong. I think it's the Rocky Bounds Bigfoot encounter where he had baited a Bigfoot with, like, apples on a stump and hit, hit back to see if this thing would come out. And he said it would, like, get down real low and army crawl, skitter across the ground to get to these things and then run back off in the woods.
B
I can't with that. Okay.
C
I want to be like. I want to see, like a Juilliard dance student performance.
A
Yeah.
C
If any of you are out there, please do that.
B
Please dust off those dance shoes. Bruce.
C
Come on.
B
You still got it, baby.
A
On August 29th, a boomerang shaped UFO flew over Greensburg. And this is where that Green Gate Mall. This is in that Green Gate Mall area. And a local doctor saw a big hairy ape creature in his yard that night, which he came out and shot at, but apparently missed. There's also a report of a Bigfoot attack in another, you guessed it, trailer park in Cooperstown. A woman heard her dog barking wildly, wildly. And looked out the window to see a big hairy beast swing, scratching and clawing at the side of her trailer. At one point, this creature got so upset, it actually hoisted the trailer up at one corner and, like, lifting this thing up at one end. And by the time the police arrived, the monster was gone. But the trailer had been dislocated from the cinder block supporting that corner. So the cop saw that something had moved. And I don't care who you are, but a single human being cannot lift up the corner of a mobile home and a. Take it and take it off of its leg.
C
Oh, that's wild.
B
I mean, there's some impressive lads and the strongman competitions. But yeah, sure, you can pull a Mazda with your teeth, but you ain't doing trailer park again.
A
Here's this thing of like here they are. I mean, I guess, I guess the mobile home thing isn't so different than like people being intense out in the woods. You know, maybe there is something to like the, the, the, the, the energy, the. What did you call?
B
Oregon energy?
A
Yeah, the Oregon Energy. Or maybe it's just that like these creatures are attracted by like, oh, they're in a little box, they're gift wrapped for me and I want to get in there and I want to, I want to see them, you know.
B
You know, Bigfoot is also spotted very often in the rural like mountainous areas going up the power line areas, you know, where they clear cut for power lines going up. I mean it could just be that that's an open spot and obviously you see it. But like now if you're getting Lynchian with electricity, that's how you know the entities from the Black Lodge manifest, there's something with electricity. Cars go out with UFOs and all this stuff. So yeah, they're attracted to that.
A
And there's also. How many stories have you heard where people have spotted UFOs hovering over power lines and like feeding off. Seeming to feed off of them.
B
Absolutely.
A
Before taking back off. So there is something in that power line stuff there. It's, it's very strange. There's this other case that happened on November 2, 1973. The WC UFOSG was called out to a rural area called Hempstead where a group of people who had parked their cars. For what reason, I'm not so sure. Maybe whipping up some Oregon energy.
B
That's right.
C
Yeah.
A
And they watched as a plum sized ball of light zipped in and out of their cars and then vanished after a second light appeared from the nearby tree line. They said it was about as, it was about as wide as a flashlight beam and then it tipped up towards the sky and then those lights vanished. And the next day they had got. Stan Gordon had gone out to investigate. I think they even came out that night after it happened. But in the investigation they found that the following day one of the cars where they'd seen this orb like beam through vision, Marvel comics vision style, through one of the windows. The window where this thing had moved through exploded like just shattered for no apparent reason. So maybe there was some residual energy in there that broke the, the window pane. But this is like classic spook light stuff happening here. You know, where people like the Joplin In Missouri, there's a Joplin. Have you heard about the Joplin?
B
Oh, yeah.
A
Spook light. And people say the same thing where they see light. A light will come out, orb of light, and it'll zip around and move in and out of cars. And people see him moving around in the tree line.
B
Brown Mountain lights. I mean, I think even like the local college around where Joplin was, they did, like, a study, because I think one like a meteorologist thought or someone not meteorologists thought they were headlights refracting off, like, fog. But they disproved that. They're like. And then their conclusion was, we genuinely don't know what this is like.
A
I need to learn more about plasma balls. Because, I mean, when the drone stuff was happening in New Jersey, people were talking about seeing plasma balls. And I guess there are. Are naturally occurring or they will sometimes appear over, like, nuclear sites and stuff like that. But I feel like we need to know more about plasma balls. How do these things form? Why do they form? Where do they form? I gotta know more about plasma.
B
There's an excellent book written by Eric Wallet where he just takes plasma and, you know, does a comparative analysis with high strangeness. And his whole thing is he thinks it's like the raw form, and then this plasma can morph and display whatever it was.
A
So it's kind of like the poe. The like. Little.
B
Greg Little thinks the same thing. And I love Greg Little's work. So that's kind of like a new idea that's kind of getting some traction.
C
I mean, it's one of the four states of matter, you know, and we just don't. I don't really know much at all about plasma.
A
Why don't they teach us about plasma?
C
I think they do, but we were maybe just drawing Bigfoot. Yeah, Binders.
B
That's the time. Accurate.
A
Yeah, yeah, plasma's cool. I would have paid attention because plasma seems like one of those things. I'm like, that's not real. Right? And then it's real. I don't know, guys.
C
Fundamental to the existence of matter.
A
My new memoir is going to be called Puzzled by Plasma.
B
Puzzled by Plasma.
A
The only plasma I learned about is, like, the stuff in hemoglobin and blood, you know?
B
Yeah, yeah, the boring sun.
A
Plasma.
C
It's in the sun.
A
I know that. Yeah, it's real hot. Again, giving credence to Tenny's theory that maybe these things are manifested by our son, but these are the dreams of. Of our son. Oh, I love that.
B
God, that's great.
A
It's a pretty cool idea. All right, let's jump into 1974. 1974, sightings slowed down and became more sporadic or less sporadic or. Yeah, more sporadic. I guess sporadic is right. Yeah, but it's there, there. The cases do support the theory that there was some alignment between UFOs and Bigfoot activity. And this is one of the reasons I wanted to circle into this, to kind of connect the dots a little bit more. Not all, but some. On January 27, a UFO chased a car down the Pennsylvania Turnpike near the Irwin exit. And there were multiple eyewitnesses to this event. It was 2am the weather was overcast and a little rainy. A woman was heading home when she saw two small red lights appear through the clouds in the sky. And then she watched. She thought it was a plane at first, but then she watched them. She said they streaked down in like zip, like laser beam lights and landed just over her car. And she could now see that the lights were, were portholes in a silver craft that was as tall as a bus and as wide as her house. So this massive craft just shot out of the sky. And the craft shot two beams of light out of the front, like headlights and search beams, and started following the woman's car floating above her and behind her at about the height of the telephone, the telephone pole. So again, power lines are, are in play here. And she said that this giant craft. And again, I do think we need to stop and note the many cigar shaped and long crafts that show up on a lot of these stories, including the one with the white Bigfoot with the orb. She said that this thing, the thing that she could not believe, aside from what she's looking at, was how effortlessly she said this thing glided around. She said it just maneuvered so effortlessly and smoothly and that behavior like really caught her attention. And anytime that the craft was close to her car, the woman noted that the engine would sputter as if it were about to go on the fritz. And. But when she speed up and get away from it, it would. The car would like, like act normally again. There was a truck driver who witnessed this event and he was so startled by everything that he pulled over. And there were two other motorists already pulled over on the side of the road and they were all like, did you just see that? So there were at least four people who all saw this thing come out of the sky. And then I. It just chased his car down for a while and then took off.
C
Incredible. Corroborate witnesses.
B
Yeah.
C
Enormous craft defying aviation. I mean, wow.
A
What else do you need?
C
Yeah.
A
Now, here we go. Here's some more. Oh, Steve.
B
Oh, I just want to say, like, too. It's just like, I love with these flaps of this era, especially in this part of the country, the diversity. I'm, I'm gonna. I know I broke a record on this, but the diversity of what they were seeing needs to be paid attention to because this is not just like they're saying boomerang shaped craft. That's all they're saying. They're saying rectangle, cigar, flying saucer, orbs. I mean, it's everything I feel like I've ever heard of.
A
Yeah.
B
In one place.
A
Yeah. It's crazy.
B
So to think is these are just aliens, but they're using different models of cars.
C
Classic.
B
Yeah. Which one do you take?
A
It's a veritable high, strangest smorgasbord.
B
It really is. It's just a wonderful buffet.
A
This also makes me go, okay, were we passing through a part of the galaxy? Was our solar system moving through a part of the galaxy? That just like amplifies this activity in this area during this 12, you know, or 24 month period.
C
Just like an intergalactic truck stop.
A
Yeah. Are we just like moving through some sort of like high strangeness, cosmic dust, where these things just pick up, up.
B
You know, if you go back to folklore in like ancient, like ancient Mesoamerican folklore and the folklore in Europe, there was always talked about these certain points, usually like astrologically that would foster weird stuff that happened or to interact with the gods more than usual. So this, there's a long precedent for like these certain times and periods where weird, weird stuff really happened.
C
Yeah, totally.
B
I believe in the Vedic tradition they call it the Cal Yuga. And like, we're in the Cal Yuga right now, which.
A
Yeah, we're still a long way from the golden age.
B
We got some work a few thousand
A
years before we get back to that cycle, Unfortunately. So. On February 9th, a woman shot a Bigfoot like creature who vanished into thin air. Echoes the story about the guy who hit one with his car and said it was disappeared upon impact. The incident took place around 10:30 at night in Ohio pile in Fayette County. Mrs. Ham, as she was called, was watching television when she heard the rattling of tin cans outside of her home. Thinking that some stray dogs who had been in the area were getting into her trash, she grabbed her loaded shotgun and stepped out onto the porch to scare the dogs away. And what she saw were not in fact dogs, but something she Described as a, quote, great big ape like beast. And this was one of those eyewitnesses that excited Stan Gordon because he said she didn't use the term Bigfoot. She said it was an ape like beast that was covered in black hair. The beast threw its arms in the air and believing she was about to be attacked, she fired the shotgun at the monster's torso. Upon impact, the creature disappeared in a flash of light.
C
That rules just.
A
And they had, in the. The week leading up to it, they had noticed like kind of weird activity in their area. At one point she said she was outside at night and a flash of light caught her attention. And she kind of didn't think of any. Anything of it until this happened. She's like, that's a lot like the flash of light that I saw. Saw the other night. She called her neighbors kind of in a, you know, adrenaline rush. And the. The Marks, as they're called, Mr. And Mrs. Marks came over to find out what was going on. And after telling her story, Mr. Marks took his loaded revolver and started trekking the property. They lived in a mobile home. The Marxes did not too far. And he said that he saw through in the woods four to five tall hairy creatures running through the trees. And this is the guy that I mentioned last episode who said they were moving very awkwardly. Like their arms were really long. But they were kind of moving stiffly and strangely. And shortly after that, he saw a bright object blinking with red lights that he described looking like a big Christmas decoration fly off from the woods.
C
They're running back to their car like,
A
this guy's gotta go. Let's get the hell out of here. He said the red lights rotated and flashed on this thing. Kind of like an ambulance or a police. A police car. But this red object sounds a lot like the red object that landed in the. On the farm on October 25. Before it turned into this weird white dome.
C
Sure does.
A
It's so strange.
B
Yeah. I mean, and I. I want to just say so the flash of light when the Bigfoot thing, it's like also even flesh and blood. Bigfoot people have said that they see these white flashing lights that look like one. Just one strobe pulse enforce all the time. Yet they don't usually. They're like, I don't know. That has nothing to do with Bigfoot, obviously. That's just something different. But like, you know, that is the thing that's reported by people who aren't even into the weirdness. So that. That is a thing sounds like a hallmark of the fae to me, but yeah, 100. Yeah. Sense, yeah.
A
Then there is the curious case of the strange being in a metallic outfit. This occurred on May 27, 1974 in Sewickley in Allegheny County. A local teenage boy was driving his motorcycle down his usual route in the woods after school. He's like, this is where he goes and rides his dirt bike. Gotta love a dirt bike. Kid in the 70s.
B
Oh, love it.
A
When he encountered what he called a tall, thin man like figure wearing a wrinkled metallic jumpsuit that was skin tight around his football shaped head. Now I'm thinking canonical like a football end on end, not, not side to side like a lemon head, which to me sounds like that canonical head is kind of like a Bigfoot kind of head. So possibly a lanky Bigfoot wearing a skin tight metallic cap and a wrinkly metallic suit. As the boy rounded the bend and came within view of the mysterious figure, the being crouched down as if to hide from him. And then like apparently deciding it was better to leave the area, the being then ran, popped up and ran three long steps up a hill and disappeared into the trees. This is some real John Keel to me.
B
Beautiful, beautiful. First off, I had an idea. I'm like, I need to write a book about alien outfits.
A
Yes, 100%.
B
Okay, so I'm right, I'll have that out next week. But yeah, it's like what a great get up this thing was wearing.
A
This reminds me of the Grinning man cases that John Keel wrote about where those guys would show up in like the green and silver jumpsuit and kids and like stare at kids. I don't know, it's weird stuff. The checkered, you know the stories of the like Eggman and also the football shaped head. There's the. Who is the Italian guy who claimed the security guard who was claimed the Freddy.
B
Yeah, yep, yeah.
A
In the Zafretti case he talked about encountering a new. An egg headed being wearing a checkered suit outside of a gas station like shortly before, shortly after his alien abduction case. So these, these like pointy headed or cone headed or egg headed beings wearing weird clothes, they're another thing that shows up in, in and around these waves of high strangeness.
C
Yeah.
A
And it shows up time and time again. I mean like you can brush off this kid's story, but when you look at all of the timelines and all of the cases, you're like, well this does sort of, you know, this is one of these characteristics of high strangeness that has happened. And again, sounds kind of fayish to Me as well.
B
It all does, baby.
A
Finally. I could not end this Deep Dive companion episode without noting another white Bigfoot that was seen on August 17th in Jeanette. And I. I would. If you would indulge me, I would like to read the full encounter to close this out as written by Stan Gordon himself. Now perhaps actually Steve, you would like to do this. You have the book next to you. This is on page 286. It's the. It's not a very long episode. It's the August 17, 1974 Jeanette White gorilla like creature spotted. Would you like to do a cold reading of this?
B
My only issue is I don't have my reading glasses.
A
Okay.
B
I feel like it's going to be a little tough for me. I'm sorry.
A
No worries.
B
I'm getting older.
A
I'll do it. This is happens if you're watching the video. If you're watching the video. I have my reading glasses on this entire time because I cannot see where she.
B
I can't see a menu anymore. It's awful.
A
Okay, here we go. Two teenage boys who were camping off Millersdale Road outside of Jeanette on August 17 reported a strange experience. It was around 1:30am While the boys were hiking down a trail when they observed a seven foot tall white gorilla like creature. The witnesses said the creature was very broad shouldered and had long arms. So again we have those like long lanky arms. The boys were about 100ft from the creature and stopped to watch it. The creature cut. I swear to God, I just saw something go by my window. I'm so creeped out.
B
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Really?
A
I just caught it.
B
Check it out. Go check it out.
C
I just heard the weirdest like noise from the side of my house and
A
I was like, really?
C
Don't look at it.
A
This is the side. Okay, I'm going to go peek out the window. Hold on everybody.
B
Will you go look at your window too, Ry.
C
All right, let's, let's.
B
I, I'll vamp, I'll vamp.
C
I'll Steve.
B
All right, all right. Oh my gosh. Well, I'll tell you what. It's a snowy day in Nebraska. Here it the, the temperature is 4 degrees, but it said it feels like negative 8. And I can attest it sure does. I was snow blowing earlier today, but I'm like, what kind of cozy winter's meal will I make? And I'll tell you what, it occurred to me that the king of all wintry meals is chili. Luckily I went to the the my refrigerator into my cabinet And I have all the makings for chili. I'm going to my secret to my a good chili. I don't care if you use beef, chicken or just beans or vegetarian. You have to add adobo peppers in the can in the sauce. Right?
C
Riley, you know adobo is crucial. I'd love that. You were just talking chili while we're gone. Adobo crucial to a good chili? Absolutely.
B
It adds the smokiness and it adds a certain like, almost like mole type savoriness to your chili. I swear to God, folks, and money back guarantee if you buy a can of adobo chilies add into your chili and you don't like it, I will send you a check for 2.35, I swear.
A
I hope everyone watching on the Cosmic video got a good look at my skinny ass legs. As I climbed up to looking out
C
the window, there was nothing there for mine, but I nothing for mine.
A
But I heard a thump.
C
I also heard when everyone was in my house and I was like, I'm not looking to.
B
I'll just die. I'll let them attack me.
A
Okay.
C
Weird.
A
All right. The boys were about 100ft from the creature and stopped to watch it. The creature, while progressing in its forward path, would at times step backwards and then continue on. What really baffled the two boys was that when they would shine their flashlight on the creature, it would suddenly just seem to vanish. When the light beam was moved away from the creature, it would reappear. This took place twice while the creature was under observation. After about two to three minutes of watching the creature, the boys ran home to safety. The boys also mentioned that a dog housed at a nearby farm that was known to always bark at the slightest noise never made a sound during the time that the creature was seen. Another detail that surfaced during the interview was that that reportedly within days after the boys encounter, another possible creature encounter reportedly occurred in that same area. Some local youngsters in a nearby farm noticed that the barn door was open. When they looked inside, they noticed what appeared to be the shadow of a giant man inside. And they all ran off.
C
Nope.
A
Some nearby dogs were groaning and growling and were unusually upset. Another local family reported that something had frightened their horses in that same day. So there you go.
C
Oh, I love the vanishing under the flashlight. That's so.
A
That's why I wanted to read this one in his words because those cool little details and visuals are just so awesome.
B
I'm gonna sound like a real know all, but that's a thing that I
A
haven't heard this I haven't heard this one.
B
I did an episode with this guy named John Carlson. Who? Adam Davies, the famous cryptozoologist. They had this experience in southern Oregon where for two nights they were inundated with these little Jawa looking figures that were crawling out of a red portal.
A
What?
B
And I'm, I'm not. It sounds crazy, but I believe that they, they believe this, what they experience. I really do. But they, they were shining flashlights and they would disappear and then they would re. Emerge from the portal and run at them and they would shine the flashlights, disappear. This one for two nights straight. And they were up all night shining flashlights on these things.
A
When I was a kid, my parents. I've told parts of this, you know, not this specific story I don't know if I've ever told on the show, but my parents made the weird choice of like, my, my childhood bedroom was downstairs and they put no blinds on my windows. So my windows just like looked out into the night and there's like, woods next to our house. So I would always be scared and I would think I'd see like ET Looking in my window or Michael Jackson from the end of Thriller with his yellow eyes. But I have this distinct memory of being little and waking up and seeing what looked like a Jawa hand at my window and called my mom. I was really young. I was probably three and a half, four. And my mom came downstairs and she put me in the rocking chair in the living room and was rocking me and I was over her shoulder and I was like. I remember looking through the French doors onto the patio that backed up next to my window. And I thought I saw two little hooded figures outside my window. And I was like, okay, their job was there, but I'm safe because my mom's holding me. And I thought they were like, laughing at me because I could kind of see them like doing this, holding their hands up to their hoods. And then I just went back to bed and I, I, I have this memory burned into my brain and I was just like, okay. They were jawas. But it was okay because my mom had me. I was fine.
B
Right?
A
But that was one of my, that was one of the first things that I remember being weird sleeping in that room, in that bedroom growing up.
B
That is horrifying.
A
So when you said jawas, I was like, yeah. Oh, yeah. Wasn't my imagination.
B
Again, they're a thing. They're a thing.
A
Javas are a thing, everybody. All right, well, that officially wraps up up our deep dive into the Pennsylvania Bigfoot UFO invasion of 1973. Thank you for joining us once again, Steve. Podcast: Bigfoot Collectors Club
Host: Michael McMillian & Riley Bray
Special Guest: Steve Berg (actor, comedian, host of High Strangeness Podcast)
Release Date: April 8, 2026
This feature-length supercut delivers a comprehensive deep dive into one of the strangest and most documented paranormal flaps in US history: the Pennsylvania Bigfoot and UFO invasion of 1973–74. Hosts Michael McMillian and Riley Bray are joined by returning guest, paranormal investigator and comedian Steve Berg, as they journey through a whirlwind of rural high strangeness: simultaneous Bigfoot sightings, unprecedented waves of UFO activity, and bizarre run-ins with Men in Black, all centered around the mountains and valleys of Westmoreland and Fayette counties. Drawing heavily from Stan Gordon’s seminal book "Silent Invasion", the episode is packed with firsthand witness accounts, field notes, and personal insights. Occasionally irreverent, often hilarious, and always deeply curious, this episode underscores just how thick and weird the lore of “high strangeness” really gets.
[03:34] Michael:
"Hello everyone and welcome to Bigfoot Collectors Club, the show where we talk to amazing guests about their personal paranormal history and share stories of high strangeness."
[05:49] Steve:
"Going well, man. Can't complain...I mean, personally I'm doing okay. The world completely falling apart."
[05:54] Michael:
"There's plenty to complain about."
[05:56] Steve:
"Yeah, we're not doing that right now though."
[19:32] Steve:
"Geographically speaking, it is drop dead gorgeous...trees everywhere, rolling hills, so much forest...all this old architecture, kind of these old mining towns. I love driving through them. I mean, there's a lot of poverty, but it's gorgeous. I love it.”
[20:44] Michael:
"So this area is...pretty rural, and I would imagine still rural today."
[20:50] Steve:
"Yeah, it's rural. There's little towns, but, like, the towns are like 5,000 people, 8,000 people."
[16:23] Michael:
"Witnesses encountered these creatures near their homes, in their backyards, on hiking trails and fields, often reporting not just one, but sometimes groups of two or three...glowing red eyes..."
[22:38] Steve:
"Stan Gordon is one of these unsung heroes in these Fordian fields...when he first published this book, people thought like, What a dummy? UFOs and Bigfoots...He was ahead of the game by like 25 years."
[27:21] Michael:
"I want to talk to you about good old-fashioned American gumption...so when this stuff started happening, he's like, I'm gonna get out there and I'm going to see it for myself."
[29:02] Steve:
"A massive confluence... Bigfoot, of course, UFOs, Thunderbirds... orange balls of light... folklore...there is a real esoteric cool."
[32:59] Steve:
"These aren't, these aren't like dogman ears...they're like Spock ears. Imagine a Bigfoot with Peter Pan or Spock ears."
[33:33] Steve:
"These Bigfoot weren't like the big muscular...more wiry, more like heroin chic of the 90s, you know, like a Kate Moss...but tall too."
[41:12] Michael (on the car interference):
"...the car suddenly shut off and the headlights became as dim and as weak as a flashlight. As the object appeared departed the area, the man noticed that his headlights became very bright."
[45:20] Steve:
"...these Bigfoot seem like more occulty than like animal to me...they were more like elven...pointy ears, wiry...the sulfuric smells, the glowing red eyes, proximity to UFOs..."
[46:22] Michael:
"Historically the Bigfoot people hate the UFO people, the UFO hate the Bigfoot people. Paranormal people hate everyone. And so why can't we all just get along?"
[88:09] Michael (describing the Men in Black figure):
"...he flashed an ID badge that had his photo and she could make out the words UFO and Ohio...he would deliver [hair samples] to Stan for her. Then he took the Polaroid picture from a kid, wadded it up, stuffed it in his pocket, wiped away the tracks, uttered the phrase, 'it has been destroyed', and sped away in a brown station wagon."
Key Features:
[111:19] Michael:
“He’s growling, acting feral as they’re walking around with him in the woods. Looking for these creatures. He just starts going, uhhh. And like shaking and convulsing and they’re like, what the—going on with Steve?"
[112:15] Steve:
"...superpower effects as well...he could call to a bird and they would come land on him..."
[119:32] Steve:
"...it was a bucket list location to visit. If anyone ever Wants to go, hit me up. I’ll tell you exactly where to go..."
[128:59] Riley:
"This does feel like, decidedly paranormal. And I don't. I don't know what to make of it. I don't know what, what the hell that was.”
[133:17] Steve:
“The UFO people hated it. The Bigfoot people hated it. The paranormal people hated it. It was roundly disliked because...they’re like, hey, we're trying to make science take us seriously. And here you go with these Bigfoot UFO cases.”
[166:17] Michael (Reading Stan Gordon, White Bigfoot, August 17, 1974):
"Two teenage boys...observed a seven foot tall white gorilla like creature...when they would shine their flashlight on it, it would suddenly just seem to vanish. When the light beam was moved away, it would reappear. This took place twice."
[170:12] Steve:
"...Adam Davies...[saw] these little Jawa-looking figures crawling out of a red portal...shining flashlights and they would disappear, reemerge from the portal, run at them, shine the flashlights, disappear..."
On the Unclassifiable Weirdness:
[133:51] Michael:
"I love a white Bigfoot carrying an orb as a cigar-shaped UFO is like possibly beaming people up into a ship. Like, this is what the...visually, this is what I love..."
On Stan Gordon’s Legacy:
[123:09] Michael:
"I think this book and this event is as seminal and as important as something like the Mothman prophecies to fans of high strangeness."
[125:00] Steve:
"Stan almost investigated all of these. A lot of most of the time boots on the ground, minutes or hours after they had [occurred]."
On Bizarre Men in Black Encounters:
[88:08] Michael:
"This man...flashed an ID badge...took his foot and wiped away the tracks from the dirt, uttered the phrase 'it has been destroyed,' and promptly sped away in a brown station wagon. This guy gets weirdo of the year award for 1973."
On Debunking/Explaining:
[59:07] Steve (paraphrasing a ‘flesh-and-blood’ theorist):
"Well...we don't know what kind of advanced animal...it might just have abilities for environmental blending...but if it has powers, it's not paranormal..."
On the Enduring Strangeness:
[137:25] Steve:
"...this area has a such a long history of this weird stuff...they just called it a different thing...but like, this weirdness is not new and like it's still happening today. There is a very healthy amount of Bigfoot sightings and UFO sightings to this day in this area. So it remains to be weird."
The Pennsylvania Bigfoot/UFO invasion is among the most documented and truly wild waves of high strangeness in American history. With dozens of witnesses, overlapping cryptid and UFO phenomena, physical traces, and even MIB-style interference, the region's acute weirdness in the 1973–74 window presents a case study at the core of “collectors club” culture: both too strange for mainstream science and too richly woven for casual dismissal.
[133:17] Steve (summed up):
"This is the most underrated, high strange book that has ever been written...I hope one day this is as popular as the Mothman because it absolutely should be."
For fans of the unexplainable, this episode is not just a highlight, but a reference work in itself—encouraging listeners to keep their minds open and records rolling, just like Stan Gordon once did in the foggy valleys of Pennsylvania’s strangest years.
Note: For full citations, imagery, and additional timeline details, listeners are encouraged to seek out Stan Gordon’s “Silent Invasion” and the Small Town Monsters documentary “Invasion on Chestnut Ridge.” The episode also references the High Strangeness podcast (Steve Berg) and John Keel’s classic "The Mothman Prophecies" for additional context.
