We're your hosts, Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins. Welcome back to Breaking Beauty Podcast, everyone. I'm one of your co hosts, Jill Dunn, and I'm here as always with Carlene Higgins. Hey, Carlene.
A
Hey, Jill.
B
How are you? Good. How are you? Good.
A
Congratulations for making it through January.
B
Yes. I'm very happy because it felt like a year. It honestly did.
A
It did. It did. We're wearing our coziest woiest sweaters because, of course, it is still February.
B
Yes.
A
But never fear, guys. We're going to give you all the warm feels today. That's what we're here to do every Wednesday. Of course. We are two beauty editors turned beauty podcasters delivering the breakthrough people, products and moments every single week in beauty.
B
We certainly are. We're going to take a minute to pat ourselves on the back here because I wanted to share with our amazing audience that we were nominated for our first award ever with the I Heart Podcast Awards. Yes. The. The ceremony is going to be taking place in Austin during South by Southwest. I believe it is March 10th. Yes. And we're just so happy.
A
I'm so happy. I mean. Iheartradio. Thank you for this nomination. We don't know how we got nominated.
B
Yeah.
A
But I've been hoping to get nominated. So you for. We were going into our eighth year now.
B
Yeah. We are in it.
A
And I'm thrilled. It's. It is an honor just to be nominated.
B
It really is. And because we. We love our audience so much and we know that you're here listening every single Wednesday and we really appreciate your support. We certainly couldn't be here eight years later still doing the show if we didn't have people listening to it. And it really is. It was a real surprise and delight that we were nominated. Yeah.
A
A little unexpected pick me up that I did not see on my horoscope and go card. But I really appreciate and I'm very excited to go with you, Jill, to Austin. And we have some dear media fam based in Austin. So I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Maybe we'll get up and do some line dancing. I'm not sure.
B
We'll have to see.
A
But, you know, it. It never ceases to amaze me that we have these great guests on our show. We've had everyone from Hailey Bieber to makeup by Mario, Dr. Sherene Idris. The list goes on. We had just Had Ashley Tisdale in January. Hope everybody caught that episode. That was a lot of fun. People love our damn goods episodes and they always, I'm just gonna say it. They rank the highest of. When we look at our downloads, people really love to know what we kind of put our damn good stamp of approval on. And I will say we test a lot of products and we edit it down to just what we think is worth recommending. It's very important to us and we never wanna recommend something without genuinely having tested it, tried it, approve it, because we know you're in our DMs. We speak to you guys all the time and we never want to steer you wrong and waste your money. That's. That's where our editing skills really shine. I think I agree. And that's what we're up to today.
B
And of all of the hashtag damn good episodes, the ones that really rank the highest are the ones where we slide in into your feeds with the budget finds that are really worth it. And that's what we're doing today. So this is our hashtag damn good drugstore finds episode. I think everything that we're talking about is less than US$20 for sure. And I. It's been kind of fun seeing this trend we saw all over Tick Tock the workin.
A
Oh yeah.
B
Walmart, Birkin.
A
Yes.
B
So I don't know if this is kind of our loose spin on that idea.
A
Well, there's definitely. I'm gonna hit you guys with the work in of hair care. This is a whole new line that launched out of la. I'm gonna introduce you to it in just a moment. We're also going to be talking about dupes because you can't escape them. And some of them are very obvious. Some brands are really waving their dupe flag high these days proudly. So, you know, we're going to, we're going to cover those and also get into some trends, like some product categories that we're just seeing explode everywhere. We're going to talk about the viral. Exactly. A viral body lotion, A viral lip product that I am absolutely obsessed with. So all of that is coming up just ahead. And of course, as always, we will link to every single product that we mention in this episode over on our website @breaking beauty podcast.com and I think.
B
It'S important that we shout out something new we've been doing in the last six months or so which is our favorites newsletter. Oh, yes. And so we send that out, I believe at the last Thursday or Friday of every single month. Please sign up. You can sign up on our website. The link is in our bio. We also link to it in our show notes and that is something big different than what we are talking about on the show. It's not just an episode recap. We are listing out our favorites spa favorites, things that are inspiring us fashion, beauty, style, lifestyle. And of course please subscribe to our YouTube channel. Even if you don't necessarily have a YouTube channel of your own. All you need is a gmail address and you can subscribe to any YouTube channel. So we are really growing a lot on there and I'm really happy about that and I just want to share that with everyone today.
A
Can it's kind of fun to see, you know, see what we're talking about. Especially when we have our fabulous guests. So without further ado, here we are, Jill and Carlene again after the jump.
B
Medicate is one of our show partners this week. Don't sleep on Medicate everyone. If you're not familiar, Medicaid is a clinically proven British skincare brand known for age defying results its dermatologist recommended and I fell in love with their Liquid Peptide serum last year. I also emptied two of their moisturizers. My skin just really likes this brand. And of course we're always talking about innovation here at Breaking Beauty. And like me, you may have been hearing all about growth factors as the must have anti aging ingredient, but I just discovered the next big thing in skincare and growth factors are naturally occurring proteins in the skin that support overall skin health and can help promote younger, healthier looking skin. However, growth fact factors applied topically are less likely to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin. Until now. Meet Medicates Liquid Peptides Advanced MP Face Serum. It's powered by Growth Factor Mini Protein which mimics the function of natural growth factors but unlike traditional growth factors is able to penetrate deep into the skin to visibly improve the appearance of skin structure over time. Meaning you get a visible reduction on deep set wrinkles. Say less. Am I right? So Medicaid's Liquid Peptides Advanced MP Face Serum is clinically proven to diminish the appearance of expression lines in just 10 minutes and deep set wrinkles in just eight weeks. I definitely need to try this so we have a very special offer just for breaking beauty listeners. Medicaid's Liquid Peptides Advanced MP Face Serum is available online at Medicaid.us that's spelled M E D I K and the number 8US and use code BREAKING20 for 20 off your order. We'll link to this offer in our show notes and on our website. Now back to the show. Welcome to Barely Filtered, hosted by me, Aurora Culpo, where my mess is my message and I'm here to share it all with you. So Carlene, this is really our first time together recording where we can send all of our love to our listeners. Based in Los Angeles, we've been watching from afar what's been happening there in the last month or so and it is so devastating. But it's also incredibly inspiring to see how people are coming together like and how brands are stepping up. I saw the way, which is one of our show partners that instead of sending the PR in influencer mailer to their 250 people on their list, they're sending them to people in need and people who are part of the fire department. I just love that there's so many heartwarming stories as well if there's any silver lining to this and so just know that we, we've supported, we donated to the Red Cross and we encourage all of you to do so if you are able and also we want to share some love. I, I understand that you have a hot LA brand.
A
Yes, absolutely. And I really wanted to talk about it out of the gate. This was kind inspired by a Kelly Werstler newsletter speaking of newsletters that I subscribe to and she was talking about a lot of people are saying like how can I support la? And she was saying how one way that you can support LA is just by coming, just by going there and supporting the businesses. Because I think probably the, the travel has taken a hit and small businesses like restaurants, that kind of thing, they.
B
Are suffering or just taking ubers or whatever.
A
Yeah, exactly, exactly. So I definitely wanted to highlight a brand new brand out of la. It's called Laura Poco Los Angeles. This is a hair care brand and they just, just launched exclusively at Target. This was on December 29th and Jill, you know that I'm starting my own skincare brand this year and you know, things can come up and delay and you have big ideas about how you want to launch. And I just feel for this woman. I don't know her at all, but I feel for her because she launched in this moment where it's so, you know, I'm sure she wants to break through. It's hard to break through and celebrate. So we're going to take a minute to do that and we absolutely should because I'm showing this on the camera right now. The packaging, this is the work in of beauty right now.
B
The work in of. I mean there's nothing even really in luxury that kind of looks like that. It's kind of reminding me of Kevin Murphy.
A
That's what I was going to say. It's, it's vaguely Kevin Murphy vibes like that kind of matte. It's a beautiful coral color with burgundy writing on it. So it's very kind of high design. But everything, everything in this line is priced under $14.
B
Amazing.
A
Available exclusively at Target. So that's amazing. Now Laura is Of course, an LA based celebrity hairstylist and she really works with the IT girls right now. She works with Alex Earle a lot. Charli and Dixie D'Amelio, Gigi Hadid, Hailee Seinfeld. So she's really tapped in that way. And so she created this line. It's dermatology tested, color safe, you know, certified cruelty free. It's got that long no, no list that Californians love.
B
Yes.
A
You know, there's no sulfates, no phthalates, paraffins, dyes, etc and it she's launching with four kind of systems. There's one for volume, one for repair color and ultimate moisture shampoos and conditioners. You'll find a hair mask and a leave in. So I really liked the volume shampoo and conditioner. What I like about this one is that it leaves your hair with like this sort of softness and plumpness that I really only have experienced with higher, higher end brands. Kind of like L'Oreal professional. I really like. It almost feels like this elasticy feeling to your hair. I definitely clocked it. They have, it's called this trademarked like pro Volutem plumping system. Whatever it is, apparently it's shown to plump a hair strand like the volume of a hair strand by four times. So I thought that that was interesting that they're, they're bringing this next level of like prowess to it. And the other thing to note, Jill, is that the brand apparently is co founded by Jamie Lupton. I don't know if that name's ringing a bell. She's the founder of Monday Hair Care.
B
Yeah.
A
And I was like, wow, interesting that a, that Jamie Lupton, who is already a hair care founder and that's an affordable line, would be co founder of another affordable hair care line. Wouldn't you think it. That they're competitive in a way. So I thought that was interesting. And when I went to Jamie's Instagram, it maybe it was LinkedIn or something. And it says that Jamie is building a cohort of future focused brands based on modern consumers values and desires.
B
Okay, so the incubator isn't dead.
A
Exactly. Exactly. Leptin is hyper focused on democratizing beauty by bringing premium offerings to accessible settings. So I have a feeling that we haven't seen the last of these types of new brands launching.
B
When they get it. When they get it right, they get it right. I've interviewed Laura before.
A
Yeah.
B
She used to work a lot with T3 hair tools. She still might, but Yeah, I definitely appreciate when a hair stylist does anything in this space. Yeah. So I, I'm excited to see where that goes.
A
Yeah.
B
I, I believe that I was sent the color shampoo of this and I have not. It's. It's sitting outside of my shower. I have to bring it into my shower and give it a go.
A
But give it a go. I, I do recommend it. I like, I love the volume line. My hair felt thicker and I give it the thumbs up. All right, Jill, now I know you are always on top of the viral.
B
Yeah.
A
Beauty trends. You know, these products that just fly off the shelves. So what is just like has all the tiktokers spinning right now.
B
So this is from the brand eos. Evolution of smooth eos. Everybody knows their iconic lip balms that are like in the ball. Yeah. And so they have really. They've come out with these body lotions that are really leaning into that trend that we've seen for the last year or so of like very scented and very nourishing. Like people want. Some people want their body lotions to smell like cupcakes. And this is their foray. This is their entree into this space. So there's three of them. It's the EOS Shea Butter 24 Hour Moisture Body Lotion. They are 9.99 US in the US at Target and 16.99 in Canada. They just came to Canada. And there's three different scents. There's vanilla cashmere. That's the Most viral, there's coconut water. And the other one is called fresh and cozy. Like I said, the most viral is vanilla cashmere. Now, I want you to smell this live on the air.
A
I am going to put it on my hands because currently the scales are standing at attention.
B
Okay.
A
So I actually have been eyeballing this over on your side for the past 20 minutes, just waiting to give it a go.
B
Is it coming out?
A
It's not. It's giving me air so far. Oh, lots of air in there.
B
I will say my feedback to the EOS team is the pumps need to be a little bit better here.
A
Wow. This is. Wow. This is very, very cupcakey. I mean, it smells like if. If their goal was to have it as realistic as possible, where they're actually duping some kind of a cupcake, they have succeeded in that.
B
I agree. And like, I think that there are people who really love this idea. Sure.
A
You know, 10.
B
Well, I think there's a lot of microfriends love that.
A
Really?
B
Yeah, they're. They're looking for the Bath and Body Works scent. I think that this is like the 2.0 of that, except this is like more hydrating. My personal favorite scent, everyone of the ones I tried is the one called Coconut Waters. If you were the type of person when you put on a sun. Sun lotion when you're down south or on a beach and you're like, I love how this smells. This smells like old school, like Hawaiian Tropic.
A
It's all just coming to me now that they're. This is all trying to be like a cheaper Sol de Janeiro.
B
That's what I was kind of getting.
A
Not in a pot, but it is trying to tap into that market at a cheaper price point. Yeah, absolutely. Because between the two. Because as I kept smelling it, I was like, in terms of that intense gourmand, it's definitely giving Sol de Janeiro. And then when you started talking about the down south vibes, like you're on the beach.
B
No, but smell this one that I'm.
A
Oh, yeah.
B
The one that I.
A
Very Sol de Janeiro.
B
This is the coconut.
A
Coconut water. Okay. That's very Sol de Janeiro.
B
It's my favorite one of the.
A
Bit of a dupe. Bit of a dupe.
B
Well, 10 bucks. And it does have shea butter in there and shea oil, which now I've heard twice in the last two days as an ingredient. I've never heard of shea oil before.
A
Yeah. Oh, interesting.
B
And all of a sudden I've heard it twice.
A
Okay. And so you're saying that this has popped off on Tick tock.
B
Is that right? Sold out everywhere.
A
Oh, wow. Wow.
B
No, like huge. Huge, huge, huge. Okay, so I, I gave it go. I like, I said I like that. I think it is very moisturizing, very hydrating. But if you're someone who maybe has had an allergic reaction to something very fragranced, maybe you want to steer clear. Okay. Because it's, it's, it is. You're going to smell it. But if you like something that's like a little bit more grown up, I would say I love that. The other product that I tried that I really, really liked is from Dove.
A
Okay.
B
Dove is just killing it recently. It's their cream body serum.
A
Ah.
B
So it's a slight. It's delivering the same, like face care serum idea to your body. So the one that I liked is the pro ceramide and repair.
A
Okay, let's have a look.
B
And this one I find is just like those really rough areas, like your elbows, your heels, very softening. It has natural moisturizing factors in there as well as niacinamide ceramides. But the texture is more concentrated than a lotion.
A
Interesting. It's interesting because it is rich, but it has, you can tell it has a water base in it because it feels cooling when you put it on.
B
Very much so. And I think that it's like a.
A
Cream gel, I guess, fast absorbing because of that. Yeah.
B
So this is the one I would say when I'm properly in the dead of winter and I'm like, I just need my rough elbows and rough patches to feel smoother and like I'm doing something for them. This is more what I've been reaching for.
A
Right.
B
And it was developed with dermatology. Dermatologist, so.
A
Right.
B
I appreciate that. So there's, there's something out there for everyone, as always. And I, it's, I feel like a really good price point.
A
Yeah. For, for that, what is it, like $10?
B
It is 16.99 in the US and 17.99 in Canada. And there's, I believe, at least six different variants of it. And they're all very much like the stuff you would see in your face serum. You're seeing it in these body serums.
A
Okay.
B
Yeah.
A
Great. Love it. Extra skin care ingredients put in there.
B
That's definitely a trend. You know, the body care keeps popping off.
A
Absolutely. Okay. Well, what I have stumbled upon, which has, you know, a great bit of lure to it and has gone completely viral on social media as well. This is the revlon Super Lustrous Glass shine Balm. It's 10.49 in the US, 13.99 in Canada. It comes in 10 shades. I'm going to apply it for you right now. Gel. And I am putting on the shade Rum Raisin. I'm sure that sounds familiar to you.
B
Yes, I used to wear that.
A
Yeah. Rum Raisin is a classic shade of Revlon. And the story behind this, the lore, if you will, is that this product used to exist. It was called Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick, and it launched in 2022. It went completely viral, but Revlon actually ended up discontinuing this whole line because it was in the height of the pandemic, and nobody was wearing lipstick, really. They were wearing masks. But I guess what happened is that as they pulled it off the shelves, people pulled out this lipstick and started wearing it. And lo and behold, they were shocked to discover that it had been discontinued.
B
Right.
A
So everyone on TikTok had been applying it and saying how much they love it, but nobody could buy it. So this just added to the lore, and it actually accumulated over 230 million views.
B
Amazing.
A
The shade that sold out was Rum Raisin. That's why I'm wearing it today.
B
But, you know, Rum raisins. Yes.
A
It's just existed in different formats. So it was a. I believe. Was it a lipstick in the 90s?
B
Yeah.
A
Okay.
B
So Super Lustrous Lipstick.
A
So this one is quite different because it's. They actually changed the name. It's not even called Glass Shine Lipstick now it's called Glass Shine Balm.
B
Feels like a tinted balm. Yeah.
A
It. And it really is more reflective of just where we're at with lip products today. So people are more interested in like. Like, tinted foundation, tinted lip balms, like, as opposed to, you know, I think we know lipstick sales have kind of bombed, but lip, as a category is actually the biggest driver in makeup right now. Like, last year, I.
B
Sales up, I think even skincare. Like, I would say I don't know anything.
A
Yeah.
B
But I would say Summer Fridays only took off as a brand when they introduced those lip balms.
A
Yeah.
B
Who. Who, really?
A
Yeah.
B
And you can see it now. They came out with lip oils. It's like every new. Yeah. From the brand.
A
So the other thing about it that I would say, I just want to describe it to you. When you put it on, it's not your typical tinted lip balm. It really kind of melts on contact, like, almost like it smashes. It's a bit of a dupe. For the makeup by Mario Moisture Glow Plumping Lip Serum. Did you ever try that?
B
Is it in a twist up and it's really melty?
A
Yeah. Yes, exactly.
B
Yeah. I didn't love it.
A
Yeah. But you know how you put it on your lips and it kind of melted and smudged?
B
Who actually came out with that first was the ones I talked about was the Mac ones. It was the end of 2023. I don't want to make it, but it looks pretty. Yours. Your lips look like they have lip gloss on them.
A
Yeah, exactly. So it's that kind of hybrid. I believe that Tarte has a version of this as well.
B
Mara Juka something something.
A
Yeah. But this one really reminds me of the makeup by Mario. It doesn't tingle. I can't remember if makeup by Mario ting you this sheer color, but I will say I am obsessed with this rum raisin. It kind of reminds me of a more wearable version of Clinique Black Honey.
B
Yeah. Also cheaper.
A
Yes. Because I find Clinique Black Honey to be a little bit too dark for my pale skin tone. But I think this would look amazing on all skin tones. Like dark skin tones, middle, like tanned. And I like I said I'm quite pale. And I actually really like it because you can build it up or just do one coat. It's so moisturizing and melty. By the way, if you are familiar with this product, when it originated, it was in a black tube. Now it's in a white lipstick tube. So if you're looking for it, I will continue to use this. It's going to be in my bag at all times. I love it.
B
Great.
A
Yeah.
B
Reveling for the win. They're the best. They're the best.
A
14 bucks in Canada. It's awesome.
B
Okay, so if you're still wanting something more in the long lasting lip category, but that's not. That still has innovation. I am going to recommend to you the Maybelline Teddy Tints. Let me get the exact name for you. The Maybelline New York Super Stay teddy tint. There's 10 shades. My favorite shade is called called skinny dip number 15. And why this is interesting to me, Carlene, is it is a tinted version of a long wear lip product.
A
Oh, okay. Interesting.
B
Stick with me here. All right, so they have basically created this that you can customize your lip look. So with one swipe, it's a sheer tint, but it lasts long.
A
Oh, interesting. Okay.
B
Okay.
A
Yeah.
B
Step two, it's more of a blurred effect on your lip. It's still Matte. This is still matte, but it's a tint, a blur tint. And then the third, if you put on three coats, it's much more of a full coverage effect, but it is still a tint. But it's transfer proof. So if you want the look of a tint, but you don't want it to go anywhere. Now Maybelline has a skin tint that does the same thing. They have a super stay skin tint. So this is the version for your lips.
A
Ah.
B
And I love the colorways in this product.
A
So you can swatch it, because I think think this is like a game show. I think I know what they're duping. Okay, I want to know.
B
Well, for me, the finish of this reminds me a lot of the Mac Powder Kiss, but it's not. That product isn't a tint necessarily.
A
Okay.
B
So I really love the colorways. Also, the packaging is like. How do we describe this? It's like a little frosted tube that has a twist off top with a doe foot applicator. But it just looks like it should cost four times as much. Like, it is so chic. And I have worn almost every color. Like, I've. I've tried it and been like, yep, I like that. Yeah, I like that. And because I think it is because some of the brighter colors are the more corals. Just do one swipe of that and I'm into it.
A
Yeah.
B
It's 12.99 US and 6 and 1899 in Canada. Now, I did something kind of funny in a little experiment, because NYX Cosmetics, of course, Nyx, they're always leaders in. In a lot of drugstore products too. I wanted to shout this out because I put this lip liner with this teddy tint. It's the Nyx Cosmetics Duck Plump Plumping Lip liner. Okay. Talk about innovation. A plumping.
A
Yeah.
B
Lip liner.
A
Yes. I. I saw this and I. It was reading gimmick for me. But it does. Does it plump?
B
It has the same tingle and plumping that the duck plump does.
A
Oh.
B
So if you're like someone who can't handle a full lip plumping gloss all over your lips.
A
Yeah.
B
Then this liner is giving you that plumped outline effect.
A
Okay, I need to try this now.
B
Now I will say still, just as a rule, I don't love when things tingle.
A
Absolutely.
B
But it worked.
A
Yeah.
B
So I was kind of doing a combo of this lip liner with this teddy tint, and I was into it. I was like, God damn, my lips do actually look fuller.
A
Yeah, they Did.
B
So I'm obsessed with all of these.
A
Colors and Maybelline you can even.
B
And they said that. But also the fact that it's. No, because that's just something that a lot of people desire. Right. And having the tinted look. But they don't want it to transfer and they don't want to be reapplying it every 45 seconds, you know.
A
So I can tell you that what this product reminded me of is the Victoria Beckham Bitten Lip Tint.
B
Oh.
A
Because it's the same principle where it's a long wear lip tint and it's transfer proof. However, the finish is very different.
B
Very.
A
So it, it's the same idea. But you're right that, that the Maybelline is more like a powder finish. It's a bit more matte. Whereas the Victoria Beckham Bitten Lip Tints are a little bit more juicy, at least to start. But they are buildable and they are a heck of a lot more expensive. But they're, they're great as well. Because I agree with you. Just as we've talked about, this is the moment we're in. So the next thing that is for sure gonna sell out. I'm telling you right now. This is the Tula Skincare Moisture Lip Mask in mint and it's an overnight hydration treatment. It's 18 in the U.S. i'm not sure if it's sold in Canada, to be honest. The PR just hasn't gotten back to me. This launched on January 31st exclusively at Sephora and it's actually a limited edition collab with, with the content creator, Krista Horton. Do you know who Krista Horton is? No. Yeah, me neither. But the reason why I mention it, I guess a lot of people do know who it is. Christa has about 2 million followers. Is that this, this product launched originally back in the summer of 2023 and it sold out in under two months.
B
Okay.
A
So now they're relaunching it and now it has this mint, this mint sort of flavor. And so the prediction is it's going to sell out really quickly as well. So if you're a Krista Horton fan, if you're a Tula fan and you already know this product, this is your heads up now. Just evaluating the product though. What I like about this, it's in a tube. Everyone's in a mint green tube. Is that. It really kind of reminds me. Yeah, I'll say it. It reminds me of the Laneige overnight mask. But instead of being in that tub where you have to use your finger to get it out with which let's. Let's face it hasn't aged very well in the day of COVID This actually comes out of a tube, and I really like that. It does have the same feel on my lips. I really. I really did find that. And I think what we know now is that people are using these lip masks during the day because it does give you kind of that plumping effect that. That these overnight mask versions tend to feel like they stay on longer. And this one is apparently clinically proven to hydrate lips for 24 hours. The main things in it are hyaluronic acid and peptides. And honestly, peptide lip balms are everywhere right now. Ever since the road one. It's like everybody's launching it because to your point earlier, people want their lips to plump but without the tingle. So Paula's Choice just launched one as well. This is called the Pro collagen peptide gloss bomb. I believe it's 24 in the US, 33 in Canada. So this is another example. And, you know, everybody's just has one of these in their bag right now.
B
Yeah, like 45. I think you've just had a tell about yourself, what with. With how you tend to misplace things. Like talking about the lineage lip mask. Like, there is a scooper that comes.
A
Yeah, that. That disappeared on day one. Girl, day one.
B
It's so funny. But yeah, it's. It's definitely huge category. And on that tip, I'm going to talk about these little cuties from Pixie Beauty. Brand new. They're dropping into Target this week. It's the Pixie Beauty lip mask. Tinted lip jelly, three colors. And let me tell you, this is the cutest thing you'll ever see. It's in a tiny little compact that almost looks like a skincare jar.
A
Yeah.
B
And it has. To our previous discussion, it has a little place to put the applicator. The applicator. Now, laneige had a product very similar to this, but this is a quarter of the price. This is is.
A
It's very Polly Pocket, everyone. Like, it's really cute. It's mint green.
B
And it is. It's US$12 and 16 in Canada. So the. It's kind of pointing to that trend. Like, by the way, if all of you are listening and you're wondering how we put these episodes together, we do not really talk about why we're bringing something to the table.
A
Yeah, we just show up.
B
We just show up. And it's funny that we have a lot of Overlapping communications. Because I think the same types of trends start to stand out. Obviously, if you've been doing this as long as we have. But this is like the most satisfying product to put on. There's three different colors.
A
Yeah.
B
And it is. It has the little applicator that tucks into the lid. You will not lose it. And it's sanitary, so you can do it. Look at those textures.
A
Oh, very jelly. Very bouncy. It's the kind of thing that you want to stick your finger in and just like. Like feel the texture.
B
Yeah, it looks like jello.
A
Yeah, it does.
B
It looks like it has.
A
So there's one with shimmer and one without.
B
There's actually three colors. The one that I like is called Caliente, but it goes on really sheer. And I think it. It speaks to the trend of what you were saying, that people want to wear lip masks all day. So a tinted lip mask.
A
Yes.
B
Is. Feels new. Yeah, feels.
A
That's true. Beautiful glossy finish on there. This feels like good bang for your buck, for the price. Wow.
B
It is.
A
Yeah.
B
And I think this is gonna sell out like crazy at Target. It. So it has omega rich camellia in there that helps to soften. It has jojoba, which nourishes and replenishes, and it has antioxidant rich pomegranate in there. And I just love that it's really softening, but it's not sticky or I don't feel like I'm wearing a gloopy product all day.
A
Yeah. Is that air in there as well?
B
Yes.
A
My gosh, what a deal.
B
I know.
A
Super excited to be welcoming Lumi as a new show partner. As of today, Lumi is basically the originators in whole body deodorant. And I'm excited personally to have my starter pack on order because Jill and I have been on the road recording a lot more in studio in New York and la, where we're under these hot lights that make us look really great for our YouTube videos. But I've been sweating in places I didn't even know I could sweat. So Lumi has deodorants that you can apply anywhere on your body, including under your boobs, of course, under your arms, in your private part areas. It's safe for your feet, everything. So I'm just so excited to try it. I've heard a lot about Lumi before, and it was actually created by an OB GYN who saw firsthand how normal Bo under the belt was being misdiagnosed and mistreated. So she worked tirelessly over the years to create a clinically proven formula to block odor all day and control it for 72 hours. That's amazing. And all the products are baking soda free, paraben free, aluminum free, and pH balance. That comes in great scents, clean tangerine, lavender. But you can also get unscented if that's what you prefer. So we have a promo code. You guys can try it as well. Lumi's starter pack is perfect for new customers. It comes with a solid stick deodorant, cream tube deodorant. Two free products of your choice like a mini body wash and deodorant wipes. So great for travel. And you get free shipping as a special offer for our listeners. New customers get 15 off all Lumi products with our exclusive code. And if you combine the 15 off with the already discounted starter pack, that equals over 40% off their starter pack. So use code Beauty for 15% off your first purchase at lumide deodorant.com. that's code Beauty at L M E D E O D O R A n dot com. So please support our show and tell them we sent you smell fresher, stay drier and boost your confidence from head to toe with Lum. Okay, this is amazing, guys. We have some good finds for you, but we do need to move on from lip products. This is the Marc Anthony grow long anti frizz shield ultimate blowout spray.
B
Amazing.
A
10.99 in US, 13.99 in Canada. And this is an absolute dupe of color. Wow. Dream coat. Okay. For a fraction of the price I'm holding it right now. It's pink and it, but it does have it, you know, even again, the packaging is a very obvious hat tip. Yeah, because it's hot pink, but it's that, that shiny chrome, that mirror like surface of what we know really signifies, you know, was the original, the OG in this category. And then it has like this little spout. So you spray it onto your, onto your hair.
B
So it's more like a nozzle, I would say.
A
It's a nozzle. Yeah, that's right. That's right. So, so, so color. Wow. Let's just say it launched this, this product and it was a big innovation at the time. They describe it as a raincoat for your hair, which is so clever.
B
Right?
A
So really it's designed to keep all types of hair, whether you have straight, wavy, curly, prone hair. It keeps it like glassy and frizz free. And the, the kind of miracle innovation about it is that it, that lasts for days.
B
Yeah. No, it is amazing, the color. Wow.
A
One lasts through a few washes. So it's all about humidity, distance, whether that's from the heat or the rain or whatnot.
B
John Frieda has one that's really good too, by the way.
A
Okay. Well, this, this particular one, the claim is that it keeps hair frizz free for up to 72 hours, even in 80% humidity. It's meant to help accelerate blow dry time. It gives you heat protection, which I love. 450 degrees. And they're saying it's clinically proven to help reduce breakage. So this product, you're probably wondering how you use it. You just wash your hair as per usual. You let it dry, air dry or blow dry it so that it's not soaking wet, it's just damp. And then you break up your hair into pieces so that it's evenly coated and like comb it through and then you need to blow dry it or apply heat to finish it to get that cross linking technology to like lock in. So I used it. And long story short, I would say it worked just as well as the color.
B
Wow.
A
I mean, I hate to say it, but it did. The only beef that I really have with it is this franchise is called Grow Long. So this product is called Grow Long Anti Frizz Shield Ultimate Blowout. And I just think that's a ridiculous name. Like when you read the directions or the description on the back, it actually says this product will not help help your hair grow long.
B
Right.
A
So it's like, why, why are you putting this misnomer on it? I understand it's the name of your franchise, but then don't put it under that franchise.
B
Yeah, it should be under like shine.
A
Yeah. You know what I mean? I hate that kind of confusion where I have to decode things or you're overselling things. It's just that, that just bothers me. So that's my beef.
B
My, my thing. My biggest tip with using products like this, and I haven't used that one, but certainly color wow. Or things like it. It's like, like when you put on enough, put on some more. Yeah, you need a lot. Cuz I think with like leave in treatments or sprays. Typically you're like, you know, you do your usual application, but this is like you need to make sure every inch of your hair is covered in this product.
A
Yeah.
B
Literally, like in the case of color. Wow. It is called a dream coat.
A
Yeah.
B
You're coating right your hair. So if you get something like this and you're like, why didn't it work for me?
A
Me, right.
B
Trust me when I tell you, put on more.
A
You want to, like, soak it.
B
Yeah.
A
All right. The last product I'm gonna hit you with. Jill, did you know that Sarah V. Is now into hair care?
B
I have not. I did not see that.
A
I did not know that. So apparently this launched in November. I must have been sleeping.
B
Okay.
A
And CeraVe entered the hair care category with dandruff line shampoo and conditioner, and a two in one plus gentle hydrating shampoo and conditioner. So the one that I got to try is the anti dandruff two in one shampoo and conditioner. And it's $9.99 in the US and 13.99 in Canada. It's just rolling out now. This is very much your standard CeraVe packaging. It's got the highly recognizable blue lid on it. It looks kind of like skincare, but it's a. In a taller shampoo bottle. And it's clearly, you know, just. Just coming for head and shoulders. Right. It does have the same percentage of purathion zinc, which is 1%. So that's the same amount that's in head and shoulders. But it also has the signature ingredients that you would spec expect from CeraVe. So it has their three essential ceramides that they have in pretty much every product under their umbrella. Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. So bringing that skin care touch to hair care, scalp care, whatever. Sorry. To hair care. It's just scalp care.
B
That's.
A
That's more accurate, for sure. In this case, it is ph balanced. It's allergy tested free from phthalates and sulfates and parabens, and it has been developed with dermatologists.
B
Yeah, great.
A
Just the same way that they develop their skin care. So I don't personally have dandruff, I will say. So I couldn't test it for that. I gave it to my son, who sometimes has dandruff. And, I mean, he liked it, but he doesn't have a dandruff outbreak right now, so I couldn't test it for that. But I do think just, like, stacking up everything, knowing the prowess that CeraVe has when it comes to understanding skin care, they have clinical tests behind it. And one thing that I do appreciate is that they have tested it on all hair types. So even the pictures on their website has, like, 4C curls. Because I think the idea is that it's trying to provide that, like, nourishment.
B
So they're coming out with a whole range, not just.
A
I don't know, I mean, there is the dandruff, but there's a hydrating shampoo and a hydrating conditioner that are not dandruff related. So whether. Yeah, they probably will come out with one for oily hair eventually.
B
Right.
A
Like that would make sense.
B
Well, I like that it says on the packaging. I think what the difference is, is it's. It's specifically saying scalp. Right. Helping scalp barrier. Does it say. Yeah, it says it on the other.
A
Yeah. Removes loose flakes without disrupting the scalp barrier. Right, exactly.
B
I will say I always have a bottle of Head and Shoulders in my shower. I do need it on occasion because sometimes my scalp gets, like, itchy and there are flakes. So I definitely always have one. Now, something I cannot get behind and I will not get behind is a two in one. It's the worst formulation. But I know that they have a separate.
A
Yeah. Yes. That's a good thing to point out. I did mention it earlier, but you can buy them separately. But this is the kind of like, my husband will be using this.
B
I know.
A
He's a two in one guy.
B
You know, it's just like they see it's for dudes.
A
Yeah, absolutely.
B
I don't know any girls that are doing a two in one. It's giving, you know, pert plus from the 80s.
A
Yes, absolutely. Well, my son, it's so funny because he's 10 going on 20 in a way. Right. So it's really fun to see him getting into beauty and grooming right now.
B
Right, right, right.
A
He's obsessed with fragrances.
B
Yeah.
A
And he even likes the Sol de Janeiro. So he'd probably get into this eos. He, you know, he wanted colognes for Christmas. He's now collecting them. So it's really fun to see what he likes. And he's also really into doing his hair. Just like a lot of the, you know, alpha kids are. So it's interesting to see what he gravitates toward. And this morning, he specifically asked me for a men's conditioner.
B
For hair.
A
For hair. And I was like, I don't actually have that.
B
But any condition you're like, you're welcome to use my character. Exactly.
A
I'm like, I have. And he's like, no, I want one for men. A men's conditioner. He's into the salt spray. You know, I'm just waiting for him to ask me for a perm. That's probably.
B
Does he go? Does he. Is he watching this on TikTok or YouTube. Like, how does he know that collecting fragrances is like a cool thing to do? What's he influenced by?
A
So I'm sure he's influenced by that, you know, because he, because he will ask me for certain things. The other day he told me he wanted a new backpack and he wanted a Carhartt backpack.
B
Yes. Because yeah.
A
Quote unquote, he's heard that Carhartt backpacks are really good. I'm like, well, where did you hear that? I think, like it's obvious. There's. Yeah, there's only one place so it's certain, you know.
B
Yeah, he's not reading magazines. So. Yeah, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, that's probably a, a conclusion that we can drop. But anyway, thank you everyone for tuning in to our hashtag damn good drugstore episode and hope you enjoyed it. Let us know if you pick up anything that we talked about and also let us know if you have any categories of products that you want us to review. I know we did at the beginning of January.
