The following podcast is a dear media production. Welcome to Breaking Beauty the podcast. All about the breakthrough people, products and moments in beauty.
B
We're your hosts, Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins. Welcome back to Breaking Beauty podcast, everyone. I'm one of your co hosts, Jill Dunn, and I'm here with Carlene Higgins. We, of course, are two magazine beauty editors turned beauty podcasters. And now Carlene is also a beauty founder.
A
What? I can't believe it. So surreal.
B
Yeah. So last week we dropped two episodes, one of which was on Wednesday. And that was where you introduced your amazing new skincare brand called Cassatt Beauty. And they should go back and listen because you are now on your founder journey.
A
Yes, I'm on my founder journey. And so I tell you all about it in that episode. It's very exciting. It's been hello week. We also had a bonus episode on.
B
Friday with a with Jamie Holmes from.
A
Timeline sk and we talk all about the art of the rebrand. So go back and listen to that as well. I know. And I can see on the back end and it's so exciting. And not all the orders were my friends, so that's.
B
That's great.
A
Although there were definitely some people supporting and I appreciate that.
B
Oh my gosh.
A
So much.
B
And today we are doing a very fun hashtag damn good episode. And in more than our 400 episodes, we. These are our most popular. But today we want to do a little bit of a spin.
A
Yes, we're doing. We're doing a spin again. We're putting our editor hats on. Back in my magazine days, there was a hot minute when I. When I had a page that I created called Makeup in a Movie.
B
Huh.
A
And it was like a focus on a movie that was coming out that month. And then all of the products inspired or part of that theme. It was just like a fun.
B
Yeah.
A
Thing to do. So I love that we're doing that today. And the theme is all around Taylor.
B
Swift's hot new album, Showgirl. And we are recording this mere. A mere not even 12 hours after the album has come out. So we have thoughts.
A
Yes.
B
And we have a lot of fun products to talk about. Some are brand spanking news. Some are icons that are in this vein or in this theme. And like Taylor Loathe Taylor. There's no question she is influencing beauty. She is influencing fashion. She is the music industry, as Barbara Walter said.
A
Yeah, she is. She's influencing the zeitgeist.
B
That's right.
A
Right now, really, Jill is a bonafide.
B
Swifty wearing the shirt she she is.
A
And so she's going to be giving like factoids about the album. We're going to go through the song list and she's going to be shedding a lot of light on what these songs mean because there's so many Easter eggs in. You got it in Taylor Swift's songs. That's what I've learned from Jill. I am not a swifty.
B
Right.
A
So I'm going to be just adding like insights based on the song names and based on what it reminds me of. And so that's why I'm saying even if you're not a swifty, you're gonna love today's episode. We're just having fun. It's not my genre of music with that I prefer. But I have huge respect for the woman.
B
Yes.
A
Like, I do because I see her, what she does as her own. Like, she's like a business person slash artist, talent and artist. To me, she's like the modern day Elvis. And so another thing about Taylor Swift is that she doesn't talk a lot about like her beauty routine. She doesn't promote a lot of products where it's like you have. I mean, she. Back in the day, she was a covergirl.
B
Right. Was a covergirl model. We remember that while she had ads in the magazines that we worked for.
A
Right.
B
I think was that that clean natural mascara, if I'm not mistaken. She also has had a perfume called Wonderstruck, which is a lore in of itself. And when she had perfumes. Yeah. And when she had a Tumblr. She talked a lot about beauty, but.
A
You don't see her out here like all of the other celebrities who have contracts. They've all got contracts. And you can imagine Prada and everybody else is probably knocking on her door and she's just like, no, I'm. I'm good.
B
What was your first impression of the album?
A
My first impression was it's. It's like standard Taylor Swift.
B
Okay.
A
That was my first impression. It was very like Taylor Swift. That's all I can say. It's like the typical storytelling that she does with the Easter eggs, all of that. No surprise that there were. There was a lot of alluding to her new life, you know, as a wife to be and kind of slowing down. And I guess it's that idea of like behind the curtain, what she's feeling the pressure of being on stage all the time. And so it was as expected.
B
Interesting.
A
How about you?
B
I think that this is an album for the masses. Okay. I think it's a Complete antidote from where we were with sad girl Taylor. She's out of her tortured poet era, obviously, and she's onto the showgirl era. And if I had to sum this up, I texted this to a friend this morning. Taylor's dick is figuratively and literally on the table with this album. She is talking about her redwood tree inspired man's junk, basically.
A
Okay.
B
And she is also talking about how her d CK is bigger than the guy who initially signed her and everything. But first impression is just like she is very confident, she is very honest and she doesn't give up about.
A
Yeah.
B
What the industry is going to say about her because she owns the industry now.
A
Yeah. Well, it's pretty much the whole cover of the album. So she is wearing like a diamante bra. And just so people, in case people haven't seen it, that you know, there's kind of like the plumes and the feathers and, you know, the bright lipstick. And I think she's wearing a diamante crown or something. So it's very showgirl in the bath. So to me, this album is like the juxtaposition. It's just like what is behind it all. So with all of that being said, the let's get into it after the jump.
B
Timeline is one of our show partners this week. It's all about longevity science when it comes to skin health. We know that we predicted that for 20, 25 and beyond, and that's why I'm excited to share with you, Timeline. So Timeline is really leading the charge because they are all about targeting skin ag at the cellular level and they're able to do that with their mitobiotic technology, which is proprietary. It's all about cellular skin care innovation backed by 15 plus years of mitochondrial science and clinical research. And it was developed with the guidance of world renowned scientific and clinical advisors. If you missed it, we had a whole bonus episode last week with Timeline's chief brand officer, Jamie, and we really delved into everything that went into their glow up. Of all of their new products, there are six total. My favorite is the firming serum and it's potent, it's got a concentrated formula. It targets fine lines and early signs of aging at the source. It's got glycerin in there, tons of antioxidants, as well as niacinamide. So it's improving skin texture, resiliency, and giving you that youthful glow. For myself, as an oily skin person, I appreciate that it absorbs right away and I love the texture and all of the products in Timelines range, they're dermatologists tested and they have safe formulations that are held to the same high scientific standards as all of the timeline supplements, which is really good to know. So they're going to give you those immediate results as well as long term benefits that you can see in the mirror. So if you're ready to upgrade your skincare routine, now's the time. Go to timeline.combeauty for 10% off. That's timeline.combeauty for 10 percent off and experience what cellular powered skincare can do for you. We'll link to this offer in our show notes and on our website. Now back to the show.

Send us your questions to Endless Honeymoon Pod, Gmail and tune in to the Endless Honeymoon Podcast on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you like to listen. Okay. So the first song on the album, the Fate of Opilia.
B
Yes.
A
Now, Ophelia is obviously a Shakespeare character. So for a bit of background, Ophelia is a character in William Shakespeare's drama Hamlet that was written around 1599-1601. She is a young noble woman of Denmark and potential wife of Prince Hamlet. Due to Hamlet's actions, Ophelia ultimately enters into a state of madness that leads to her drowning. There's the literal background. Jill, what, what did you glean from this song?
B
Well, Taylor has, first of all, this is the lead track, so that says a lot. And it also is something we haven't seen yet. When this episode comes out, there is a proper music theatrical release of the music video for this song that's going to be in theaters starting tomorrow. So we haven't seen. Now my dream for this song is that she hired like Elizabeth Berkeley literally from Showgirls and is like going like, because she's going to the theater to release it, she could have just put it on YouTube.
A
Right.
B
It could have been an email. So I'm very curious what she's going to do with the theatrical, theatrical nature of this fascinating, this particular song.
A
But this is very in depth, you see. You see, Jill is deep in it.
B
Okay, well, you know, Taylor inspires that you Think beyond.
A
Yes, yes.
B
But the fate of Ophelia, I think, is just like, about avoiding that fate that Ophelia has. And she. Taylor has talked about when you watch Titanic or when you watch Hamlet or what have you, about turning the movie off before the bad happens to the female character.
A
Interesting. Yeah.
B
So this whole nature of this song is about that whether she's rescued by the heiress tour. She's. She now owns her masters. She's rescued. Rescued by love, whatever. So I think that it's. It is very much about that. Turning off the movie before it gets.
A
Okay.
B
Sad. And avoiding these fates.
A
Yes. Well, interestingly, I googled Ophelia in the context of beauty. And what I realized is that Ophelia has inspired a lot of fragrances. Now, some of them, you'll find them on Etsy and they're very obscure. But there is a British fragrance house called Healy Perfumes, Healy Parfum, and they are created by James Healy. And he's a designer who's based in Paris. And his fragrances are very artisanal, and he creates them himself. Like, I feel like I would be all over this. He had a fragrance called Ophelia that it looks like maybe has been discontinued. Well, it turns out that you can buy just a tiny little. The little testers of the fragrance that are, I don't know, 5 mils or something of Ophelia. On the Healy website, it's $3 and €50, except they're not shipping to North America right now due to tariffs. But if you happen to be listening from the UK and you want to literally try it and it says too pretty for words. The Shakespearean character of Ophelia has inspired writers, poets and artists for centuries. The absolutes of jasmine, ylang ylang and tuberose evoke the romantic, sensual femininity of Ophelia. Fresh green aquatic notes combined with orange flower reflect her purity and etern youth.
B
Amazing.
A
So there you go.
B
I think she's used Ophelia in a lot of her imagery in the Eras tour as well. Like the witchy parts of her dancing around in, like, Evermore and stuff. I think it's the green dress and like all of that, I think she's very much been inspired by Ophelia. And also somebody on Tick Tock pointed out that there's a 2012 movie called Savages and Blake Lively plays a character named Ophelia, which is the. Her whole story arc is inspired by the Shakespearean thing. So there's many takes on Ophelia over the years.
A
Yes. So that's the first song decoded by the Breaking Beauty hosts, everyone.
B
I love it.
A
Next song on the list is Elizabeth Taylor. I feel like I've got the number on this song. So the whole thing about Elizabeth Taylor. Well, number one, she was the first actress to command $1 million for her performance in Cleopatra. This was back in the 60s, but she was as well known off screen as she was on screen for her tumultuous love life.
B
Yes. That she had.
A
She was married eight times.
B
Yes. And Richard Burton twice to set exactly.
A
Yes to seven different men. So I think that what this song is about is kind of like with Taylor Swift, of course, before her current lover is that she fell in love many times. They could not handle her as a star.
B
Yes.
A
And I think that's what she's saying about Elizabeth Taylor is like, these guys want her as, like, on their arm. They want to have fun, but when it really comes down to it, they cannot handle being in her shadow.
B
Right.
A
And so she has finally found this. So this is why she talks about Portofino, which is a place where Elizabeth Taylor. She stayed there. And so that's what she's directly referring to. And I think it's just that idea of, like, men cannot handle being in women's shadow. In the woman's shadow.
B
I had a literal thought. I was like, well, I need to call in White Diamonds. Elizabeth Taylor.
A
Yes.
B
Because. Because love it or loathe it, it is the most iconic celebrity perfume of all time.
A
Yep.
B
It launched in 1991, which kind of shocked me, because I think of it as a very 80s perfume. Do you know what I mean?
A
Yes.
B
A very white floral. I called it in. Let me tell you guys. It's white floraling. This. When you hear about perfumes in 2025, and the complaints on Sephora are, this doesn't last. This doesn't last.
A
Right.
B
You want a perfume that lasts. Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds.
A
Yes.
B
It will be with you for days if you want it to be.
A
I smelt it as soon as I got into the studio.
B
I am wearing it today.
A
Speaking of overshadowed, my poor fragrance is completely dying a slow death over here.
B
And it's actually really affordable. It's US$30 on Amazon. And I got this.
A
We show it. This is.
B
Oh, yes.
A
Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. It's got the diamante kind of ring around the cap. It looks. The actual juice itself looks like this peachy amber color. Like it may have gone a little off.
B
Yeah, yeah, you would think 90s. But it's not. And it has Guess how many reviews it has on Amazon.
A
Oh, my gosh. I don't know.
B
50,000, 25,000.
A
Wow.
B
Which I thought was significant. It. And what I thought was so iconic and I need to shout this out is because she was such a proponent of helping individuals who were suffering AIDS. 20% of the sales from this fragrance in perpetuity go to AIDS charities.
A
Amazing.
B
So she was just humanitarian. Incredible. Incredible businesswoman, as you said. And toward the end of her life, it was said that Liz Taylor, the white sales from White Diamonds, is basically was her main source of income.
A
Yeah.
B
Not surprisingly. Wow.
A
Wow.
B
And the top notes are Lily, Neroli and Bergamot. Middle notes are ylang, ylang, tuberose, rose, jasmine, violet. Base notes are sandalwood, amber and musk. You definitely get that muskiness.
A
Oh, definitely.
B
And there's a little patchouli in there, too. But I just think it's of a.
A
Certain era for sure. Funny, because I'm. Like I said, I'm talk. There's a fragrance I'm going to talk about later in today's episode and I'm like, wow. The contrast.
B
Yes.
A
Of a 80s 90s fragrance compared to now. It's just absolute. Night and day.
B
Now, I will say just quickly, as an aside, what has been rumored and I think confirmed is that Taylor loves herself personally. Tom Ford Santol Blush. Oh, yeah.
A
Let's move on to the next song title. Opalite.
B
Yes.
A
So first of all, just for background, the Opalite crystal meaning is associated with emotional healing and a sense of calm. This stone is said to help us release negative energy and emotions and to open up our hearts to love.
B
I think it's really. This is my favorite song so far. After, like, listening a couple times. It's a banger. It really is a bop. And I can't wait to listen to this and dance around with my friends. It. I think it just exudes her, finding peace and happiness and I think it just has a lot of joy. And she was talking about how opalite is like, man made.
A
Yeah.
B
Right. And how isn't it something to do with, like, certain lights of. It can make it look really blue and some of it can make it look a little darker. More like a moonstone.
A
Yeah.
B
So I think it's about like that perspective of shifting, like.
A
Yeah.
B
You are in charge of your own happiness. Ultimately. Are you making the Opalite look blue or you're making it look dark? You know, And I think that's the deeper meaning behind this.
A
Interesting.
B
But ultimately I'm. I Just feel a lot of joy when I'm listening to it.
A
Yeah. If you're interested in Opal making the Opalite look, first of all, I just got an email from Missouri, which is good timing. So that Opal, they have a whole edited Opal, of course. And although Opal is also Libra's birth sign, which is right now that we're recording this September 23rd to October 22nd, so good timing for them. But on the beauty front, Clay Depot luminizing face enhancer, 125usd in Canada, probably going to be closer to 150. We know that these are like prized collectible possessions. Launched October 1st. So the luminizing Face Enhancer, I think they always kind of re release it and they tweak it just a little bit. It's in a compact. It's an exquisite highlighting powder, says the press release. Inspired by the brilliance of the precious Opal for creating a captivating 360 degree radiance that flatters with every turn. So you apply it, it's just like a highlighter. And this one that they are launching for the holiday is a limited edition. It's number 110 Radiant Pea Foul. It's a glowing pink palette that draws inspiration from the tail feathers of a peacock. So this is kind of like if you think about the Guerlain meteorites, you know, all the different colors that are in that little pot. This is a. Almost like a flattened version of that in a compact.
B
Right.
A
That you can apply with a brush. Just really lightly. Really beautiful for all of the holiday parties that are coming and on trend with all things Opal. All right, so moving on, we have Father Figure. What's your take on this song? This is where she's putting her BD energy on the table, right? Yes.
B
So this is basically. I'm used to reading it and not seeing it, but it's like interpolation, I believe is how you say it. So it's basically taking some of George Michael's Father Figure song and which she got permission to use, and he is listed as a. A writer on this song. And it's basically about Scott Borchetta, who got her into the whole industry, signed her when she was really young. And the song is about how she's turned the tables now and her D is bigger. And she says that line.
A
Yeah.
B
In the. In the song. And it's really just about her power and her ownership of her because this is the first album where she has officially owned all of her work.
A
Yay.
B
So this is Kind of just a bit of a you, I think to Scott Borchetta and. And that. That's my take on it.
A
Yes, I, I think that's pretty clear.
B
It's like businesswoman special.
A
Absolutely, absolutely. So now George Michael did not have any affiliation that I know of with any beauty products in his time. Did he have a cologne or anything.
B
He should have like. I mean he is 90s fashion.
A
Yeah, absolutely.
B
You know, not father figure, but the other one. Freedom. Yeah, Evangelista.
A
I know, it's so true.
B
He apparently his personal cologne was widely known to be Jean Paul Koji Lamar, which actually makes perfect sense.
A
Yeah.
B
That he wore. It wasn't necessarily that he was the face of it or anything. And I think with her boldness in this, this track, I definitely think it is reminiscent of her signature red lip, which we all know is Pat McGrath. This has been confirmed. Pat McGrath, Liquid Lust legendary wear matte lipstick in shade elson, which is US$34 and 51 in Canada. This is the one she wears on stage when she's feeling her most powerful. And Pat McGrath herself was in her bejeweled music video. So we know there's a relationship there. Having that you moment.
A
Yeah, absolutely. I think that was my favorite song on the album, by the way. Today's episode has been brought to you in part by Nutrival. So a couple of years ago I started my perimenopause journey and one of the first things that I noticed when I looked in the mirror was hair thinning right in the front at my hairline. Oh my gosh, I was devastated. One of the first things that I thought of was neutrophil, and that's because it had been wrecked. Recommended so many times on our show by dermatologists, trichologists and hair stylists. They had been recommending it to their clients. So I take the women's Balance formula, which is perfect for anyone who's going through hormonal changes. They also have a postpartum formula and a women's vegan, if that is your lifestyle. Neutrophil is actually the number one dermatologist recommended hair growth supplement brand trusted by over one and a half million people. And you can feel great about what you're putting into your body. Since neutral hair growth supplements are backed by peer review studies and NSF content certified, that's the gold standard in third party certification for supplements. I do appreciate that. So you can see thicker, stronger, faster growing hair with less shedding in just three to six months with Nutrafol for a Limited time. Find out why Nutrafol is the best selling hair growth supplement brand@nutrafol.com spelled n u t r a f o l.com promo code breaking. That's nutrafol.com promo code breaking. We'll link to this offer in our show notes and on our website. And now back to the show. Now, next, next song on the lineup. Eldest daughter.
B
Yes.
A
Now doing a little bit of googling. There is something called eldest daughter syndrome.
B
Yes.
A
I don't know if you know this.
B
Yes. It's a tick tock trope.
A
And me. Ah, interesting. Okay. So this describes the pressures and responsibilities often placed on them. Strengths can include responsibility, leadership, and independence. While challenges involve stress, perfectionism, and a tendency to neglect their own needs to care for others.
B
Well, anybody who has an eldest sister can attest, like, they are the ones buying all the Christmas gifts or getting their group chat going, what are we doing for Christmas?
A
Right.
B
What are we doing? Like, they take on all this responsibility whether they are. Whether they need to or not.
A
Right. They become a parental figure of them, of themselves.
B
Yeah. I was away last weekend with like 13 of my friends and I was like, I love being away with eldest daughters.
A
Yeah.
B
And moms, because they take care of everything.
A
Yes.
B
You don't have to think about it all at all. And so I kind of think that theme is here in this song where Taylor's finally going. I had to do everything and now I found this love and I can just be like me and relax a little bit.
A
Yeah. I mean, I thought it was interesting.
B
She.
A
She sort of talks about if I'm not. If I'm not getting it confused with another song. She talks about, you know, the trolls in the comments on social media and everything and how it does hurt. But she's gonna just keep going. She's like, I'm not gonna abandon you.
B
Right.
A
I feel like this song is a kind of a love letter to her fans. That's like, I love and hate this job that I have.
B
Right.
A
I think that's the theme of the whole album.
B
Okay.
A
And.
B
Yeah.
A
You know, but I'm going to keep doing it for you because I'm the eldest daughter in this. This relationship.
B
Yeah.
A
And I'm just gonna keep going. Yeah. Even though going back to George Michael is like the. We eat our icons, we chew them up and we spit them out. Just like kind of with George Michael, he couldn't live his authentic self.
B
Right.
A
And so that's how I interpret this song. Now, I just happened to Google who would be an eldest daughter in the world of beauty. And do you know who I found?
B
Who?
A
Helena Rubenstein. She was a Polish and American businesswoman, an art collector and a philanthropist and a cosmetics entrepreneur. Of course. She was the founder of Helena Rubenstein, and that made her one of the world's richest women. She was the eldest of eight daughters. That brand is still around. Helena Rubenstein. We don't know a lot about it because it's not in North America, but it is in Europe. And in fact, just in July of this year, they signed Adriana Lima as the face.
B
I've been to the counter at Galerie Lafayette. Ah. Oh, yeah. Because it's. You know, there's that whole musical, too, that's like Elena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden. They were rivals coming at her, and they really, like, spurred each other on and stuff. There's so many examples of, like, eldest daughters doing the most.
A
All right, next song on the lineup. Ruin the friendship. Yeah.
B
This one made me tear up.
A
Yeah. A lot of people were speculating initially that this song was going to be about Blake Lively. She.
B
Taylor loves to do this.
A
Yeah. Because the headlines were going that, are they on again? Are they off again?
B
Yeah.
A
But it very became very clear that this was not about a female at all.
B
Right.
A
And we will talk about Blake Lively a little bit later with another song.
B
Yes.
A
But this song is actually about, obviously, a past lover who was a friend and ruining the friendship. As in, like, shall we make out? Shall we take this step, take this chance and potentially ruin the friendship? Would it be worth it? Is the gist of the song, am I right?
B
Yeah. I mean, I think it kind of samples a bit from her folklore era where she made up songs.
A
Yeah.
B
And I don't think that this is necessarily about a Taylor specific scenario, but it's about looking back on your life and not having taken a chance on something that maybe you thought there's something there. But I don't want to ruin the.
A
Friendship in life, though, so maybe it's metaphorical. Yes. Okay. Well, it's. You guys can weigh in on in our Facebook chat room and on Instagram.
B
I did think of a product for it, though. What I always find funny about Taylor and Travis, when they're out to dinner and they have been paparazzi so many times. Every time they are out to dinner, they're snogging, they're making out, and I think the ruin the friendship song reminded me of her, like, signature lipstick, which is Nars Morocco. It's one of the original 12 lipsticks that NARS ever came out with. It's like an orange matte, cinnamon, warm cinnamon color. She wears it all the time. She wore it on new heights to talk about her. Her album. Dropping this album.
A
Yeah.
B
She wears it on the red carpet. She wears it. She loves it. And so I just picture ruin the friendship.
A
I just swatched it.
B
If you do go for it, you're gonna not hold back and you're gonna be smudging your lipstick. And I feel like she. Travis always has her foundation all over his nose, and her lipstick is always messed up.
A
Oh, that's so funny.
B
And then I would say, if I.
A
Had to guess, she would probably say that he's her best friend now.
B
Oh, she. She said that. She just said that on the BBC radio this morning.
A
Exactly. So maybe I feel like, as somebody, when you get married, it's like you don't know what's going to happen, but you just take the step.
B
Right.
A
You know? So I wonder if it's about that. But I just want to say I think we need to give some original credit.
B
Yeah.
A
Demi Lovato had a song called ruin the friendship.
B
Okay.
A
It was from her 2017 album, Tell Me you love me.
B
Okay.
A
And the lyrics are pretty obvious. They. She talks about a strong attraction and the idea of taking a risk, even if it might ruin the friendship. When it came out, a lot of speculation online was that it was inspired by Demi's longtime friendship with Nick Jonas. And so I just thought it was kind of crazy that there's a song literally with the same name not that long ago. And really, it's literally about the same concept, the same idea of taking that friendship one step further. So. So.
B
Right.
A
I don't know if anybody else is gonna call. Call out this parallel, but I saw.
B
I will just say, as a side, love Demi, that she's doing so well.
A
Right.
B
There was a point there where I was quite concerned about her, but she seems really happy.
A
Yes.
B
And she's taking a piss out of herself on it. The Internet, which I always think is fun and good to do. And she's. She's back. So. Yeah. I hadn't heard that song, but I will take a listen to it for sure.
A
I literally wondered if it was a cover or a collab like I had. No, it's. It's kind of weird.
B
Yeah.
A
Anyway, next song. This is a spicy one, actually. Romantic.
B
Yes. And Spicy in the sense it's a little. It's dramatic. Romantic.
A
Yeah. There's drama here.
B
There's beef.
A
There's beef.
B
Yes.
A
Tell us about that.
B
Okay, so in short, when Charlie XCX came out with Brat era, defining her in her own way. Brat in summer of 2024. I'm obsessed with that album. She has this song, and she talks about her insecurities in being in the same room as someone as big as Taylor Swift. She doesn't come out right and name her, but she does talk about that. And I just love that album. Everything about Brat is so freaking iconic, and she's talking about such deep things and just puts them in these like. Like a set you would hear at the boiler room or whatever. So Taylor has done done a rebuttal with this song called Actually Romantic. And she's basically saying, oh, isn't it cute? Like, you wrote a diss track about me, and I had no idea. We had beef. That's the idea. And she. I'm not like. I think the song is a. Is good. It kind of gives me, like, teenage dirtbag Weezer vibes.
A
Yeah. But.
B
I didn't love that she went there. I just feel like right now, Taylor's.
A
On top of the world.
B
Why does she need to punch down. Yeah, but what's your take?
A
Yeah, no, I agree with you. And I thought it was interesting because when I listened to that song that we talked about before, Eldest Daughter, I think it was. And you're listening to the lyrics of that one she talks about, she says something to the effect of like, I'm not a bully. I'm not savage. Like that. Yeah. Kind of the kind of thing where she's like, I'm just a softy, but, like, I'm gonna keep going, guys, for. For you. But then this song is like, wait a minute. This is pretty savage.
B
Well, I actually was thinking while I was getting ready this morning, maybe it's not so coincidental that she dropped this album on Mean girls Day on October 3rd.
A
What's mean girls Day?
B
Well, Mean Girl, you know in the movie Mean Girls, Right? And she turned, and he asked me what the date was. I said, October 3rd. I actually think, diabolically, Taylor might have done that on purpose. And she does like that.
A
Oh, my gosh.
B
Yeah. So I just was like, did you need to go there with Charlie? Now, Charlie has said lots of. About Taylor off. Not on her album and stuff, too, but, like, they have beef because Charlie is married to George, who's in the 1975 and that's. The lead singer was Maddie Healey, which obviously Taylor was involved with, yada, yada. So there. There's personal stuff there. So she.
A
That's.
B
That's kind of, I think, where. Why it goes a little bit. Why it goes there, but I don't think she needed to go there.
A
Yeah, No, I agree. Anyway, I guess it's a way of taking the high road in. In a sense where it's like, if somebody's dissing you, you can actually take it as a compliment. They're spending their energy on you is what actually romantic is about. When you listen to the lyrics, it's like, oh, I didn't know that you cared about me so much that you would spend the time writing a song about.
B
It's like, I live rent het.
A
Yeah, exactly. Right, Exactly.
B
To borrow a term.
A
Anyway, we talked about the fact that Taylor doesn't have a beauty line and she doesn't do campaigns. All of that. Charlie XCX does. Though she is currently a brand ambassador for Valentino Beauty. This fall, she is the face of Valentino Beauty Puffer Gloss. It is a multifunctional lip product that acts as a gloss plumper and oil.
B
Yeah.
A
And she highlighted this product during her performance at Coachella in April 2025, where she showcased the gloss in the shade. In my glowing era.
B
Okay. Interesting.
A
Yeah. Over Valentino's Spike buttery matte lipstick. So there you go.
B
There you go.
A
Factoid on factoid. This episode is brought to you in part by Canopy. So here's one other thing that every showgirl needs when the lights go down and she hops into bed. A humidifier. That's right. Skin care experts and dermatologists have long touted the benefits of increased indoor humidity for healthy, glowing skin. Because a not so fun fact. Having dry air in your environment can start wreaking havoc on your skin in no time. But here's the thing. Not all humidifiers are created equal. Visible mist from traditional humidifiers is actually kind of unhealthy due to particles and bacteria being carried by the water into the air canopies. Mist free hydration is invisible. Clean moisture. The best kind for your skin and your health. Canopy humidifier. It's got this antimicrobial filter that catches irritating minerals and other kind of nasty stuff from the water before it has a chance to be evaporated into your environment. You'll also never have to worry about molding. Canopy utilizes a unique technology that keeps the humidifier running until there's no water left inside the unit. No Water left means no mold. The easiest part, canopy, goes right into the dishwasher. And canopy humidifier also has a built in aroma diffuser that uses the simple, healthy process of evaporation to fill your room with scented Moisture. Go to GetCanopy Co to save 25 on your canopy humidifier. Purchase today with canopy's filter subscription and look for other canopy products, products like the canopy bath and shower filter. Even better, use code beauty at checkout to save an additional 10 off your canopy purchase. Your skin will thank you now. Next song, Wish list.
B
My most hated of the.
A
Ah, interesting. So it sounds like this song and it's spelled wish like W I$sign H L I$sign T. So it sounds like she's just taken the piss and she's like, she's grown up now. So it's like let all the other youngsters go and do get that bag. Whether they're like the face of a campaign or they're just, you know, doing every single thing to, to get that money and that fame where now what she's getting ready for, what she really wants is a basketball hoop and a driveway and two kids. Yeah. She says, and all of the things. So I have a, I have a gift idea for what I'd be gifting to Taylor Swift.
B
Okay.
A
For her new era. It is the Fortuna Skin Beneath the Olive Tree holiday kit. It's $265 US with a $380 value. And you know what's cool about this holiday gift set, Jill?
B
What is that?
A
It has Fortuna skin, which I love. I love their oil. Everything's made at like an olive farm in Italy for real that they own. So it includes the BI Phase moisturizing oil that I love, an artisanal bar soap, but also some of their food products that's grown on the farm as well. So they're olive oil, the LXR06. You know, she can put that with a little bit of bread and feed it to Travis. And also black bee honey in there and olive leaf botanical tea.
B
So I would. Yeah.
A
This is a kit that has beauty products and food and home products.
B
Yeah.
A
Each product is crafted from their botanicals grown on Fortuna's organic farm that's dedicated to protecting the land, preserving farm workers jobs, and safeguarding rare species of plants and animals.
B
Like the bees don't know that she cares that much.
A
Well, she may not, but for our listeners who care.
B
Yeah.
A
It's not all just.
B
We do know that Taylor Swift, by the way, uses Tracy Martins facial products. The AMLA purifying cleanser. And apparently the Tracy Martin Lotus sculpt iPads. At least she did in 2014 when she sent out this, like, curated. Kind of like a curated box of her beauty favorites with handwritten notes to certain fans. They're designed to moisturize, calm, and diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Okay, so.
A
Okay, she did a.
B
She did a gift to fans, and that was what she.
A
What she used at that time. Okay, next song. Wood. What are we saying?
B
Oh, my God. This song. I was like. My hand was over my mouth. Like, when you hear the first time, your jaw just drops. It is.
A
I think I missed something because I didn't have that reaction. So you tell me this is her.
B
Horniest song she's ever written? What? Yes, girl.
A
I.
B
Okay.
A
We were listening to, like, two different versions, I swear.
B
Okay, so this song. Taylor says it's. She said when she did a little press junket, some of the things have leaked. She talked about this on iHeartradio. She sort of like, queued up every song and they, like, played it at midnight or whatever. And she said this song is about superstitions, like, you know, knocking on wood or when, like, a black cat. Yes. Runs in your path. It's with superstitions and, you know, knocking a wood. And then she's like. And, you know, it's just like a really in depth love song is what she said and just left it there. And I think she's probably today maniacally laughing at how everybody is reacting to it online. Because I need to pull up the lyrics before I.
A
Okay. I took it at face value.
B
Okay, what did you think?
A
No, I thought it was about the. About these superstitions. And basically what she says in the song is, girls, I don't need superstition anymore. I have the. I have the lock. I have the guy.
B
Right.
A
I don't need to, like, keep your. Don't throw your bouquet at me because I already have the rock coming. That was. That's what she said.
B
People online have been saying she's matized by him. And, like, in her previous album, she talked about how no one's ever had me. Not quite like.
A
Not quite like you.
B
And she's had all these innuendos. And here she is literally hitting us over the head with, like, you guys don't even understand what I've got going on here.
A
Oh, so the.
B
So the chorus goes. Forgive me. It sounds cocky. He ahmatized me and opened my eyes. Redwood tree it ain't hard to see his love was the key that opened my thighs Girls, I don't need to catch the bouquet to know a hard rock is on the way and, baby, I'll admit I've been a little superstitious the curse on me was broken by your magic wand Ah. Seems to be that you and me we make our own luck New heights, New heights of manhood I ain't got a knock on wood. New heights is his podcast name. He's taking her to new heights of manhood. Anyways, it is.
A
Wow. I feel enlightened.
B
And the fact that she put he othematized me when online, everybody's saying she's diplomatized.
A
Right.
B
She's like in a trance.
A
Wow. Right? Okay. Well, that. That was genius. You see, my appreciation is growing now. When we think about beauty and wood, we think about fragrance.
B
Do we?
A
I do. I think about Woody fragrances.
B
Okay, that is not what I'm thinking about after this.
A
So, I mean, in the beauty, in the realm of beauty. And I'll tell you who is coming in with some big D energy in the beauty space, and it's Melanie Bender.
B
Okay.
A
Lore. Okay.
B
Okay.
A
Laura fragrance came out just a few weeks ago. And it is, you know, she basically says on her Instagram, like, people, really? So Melanie Bunder for background, she's been on our show.
B
Yeah.
A
And she was the CEO of Road Beauty with Haley Bieber.
B
Short lived, but yes.
A
And they were on our show. She was with Verse from the beginning care. She was. Was there from the beginning with versed and helped to kind of grow that and scale that. And so Melanie Bender came out on our Instagram and basically, in so many words, said, people never thought that I had the main character energy. And like, this is me now. Like, I'm going for it. She's all in on the branding. It's all about storytelling and creating this whole world. It's very poetic. I would say Taylor Swift would appreciate perhaps.
B
Okay.
A
The fragrance I'm wearing today is Lore Somewhere but nowhere. Oh. Departure parfum 88 US not available in Canada yet. Exclusive to Sephora. Melanie herself sent me this sample with a personal note before it launched. I feel very privileged.
B
She also did it just, by the way, guys, with the two founders of Youth Youth to the People. Skin care industry veterans coming up with this concept. And they just, they, if they do that, it's just like the playbook.
A
They know it.
B
They just go and knock right on Sephora's door and say, like, we're here.
A
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. But it's Lore world. She's creating a world around it. It's very, like, sexy, youthful, travely, very into it.
B
So are you wearing it today?
A
I am.
B
This is why I said you're completely off.
A
Your white diamonds completely wiped out my. My Lore fragrance. Okay, so the fragrance is earthy and woody. It's a warm woods is the scent type. The keynotes are cedar wood, not morning wood. Jill, get your head out of the gutter. Cedarwood, vanilla cream, and cardamom. And people are saying that it is kind of a dupe for Santel 33.
B
Right now. I'm getting it a bit more now.
A
It's got a similar structure, the wood. It's got leather and creamy notes, but it also has black tea, cardamom, and a slightly different spice profile. So I agree with you. I think it has a little bit more of that, like, green quality to it.
B
Yeah. Like the cedar. I don't know. It's not the cedar wood. It's like the cedar needles or whatever.
A
Yeah, it's. It's a little bit different, I think. But just to put it in perspective, this is kind of genius. Le Labo, Santel 33, which is iconic at this point.
B
Yeah.
A
It's US$240. Yeah. For a bottle.
B
That's what, like, Birito is.
A
Absolutely. But I think she's quite genius because she's positioning Lore to be in this universe of Birado and all of that. Like, she even has some setups in her Instagram with different fragrances. And, like, Laura's right up there with. With those big guns in the photo photograph. But it's only $88.
B
Okay, great.
A
For basically the same size. So I think she's coming for these. These bigger, kind of indie. Their hand designed from glass and aluminum.
B
It says our bottle is inspired by the experimental work of Parisian glass maker Andre Tourette from 1918. He's. He passed away in 1965.
A
And they're also refillable, which. Which I love. I think for a fragrance, should be refillable. That's what we should be doing.
B
Okay, well, it's. It's definitely a moment. Yes. And congrats to Metal Melody.
A
I. I think it's wonderful. I think especially for the money, it's wonderful. So let's move on to the next song because we're running out of time. Yeah. Canceled.
B
This one's juicy.
A
Yes. Okay.
B
She says. She just says it all, basically, you know, the Blake Lively of it all.
A
The.
B
You know, everybody was speculating that Ruin the Friendship was about Blake Lively. Well, Taylor is saying in this song, canceled with her whole chest. She's standing with Blake Lively. She rides. She's dying with her.
A
Yeah.
B
She's just basically saying, I've been in that dark place. I've been canceled before they really even had a name for it. And I'm not going to turn my back on my friends. And I know what the real truth is. And basically, I'm sure Taylor could.
A
Can't.
B
She's never issued a public statement. She's never even really been seen with Blake. Probably doesn't want to, like, fan the flames, but again, she's speaking through her art.
A
Yeah.
B
And she's making it known 10 toes down that she's. She's on Blake's team.
A
That's right. Yeah, that's right.
B
She's.
A
What did she actually say? She says, I like my friends layered in Gucci and controversy or something.
B
Just one sec. Scandal.
A
Gucci and scandal. Yeah. Love that makes things spicy. Now, on the tip of Blake Lively, I think there's been quite a bit of speculation about her hair care brand, because people really. A lot of people really felt that it was kind of not the most authentic thing in the world. Interestingly, though, I was listening to the Beauty Brains podcast the other day. They are.
B
Didn't even know they were still around chemists.
A
They're still putting out.
B
Oh, my God. Wow.
A
And Valerie George had an astute insight, because, of course, they're cosmetic chemists, so totally different take than usual. And what she had said was that Blake Lively's products were actually legitimately very good, very well formulated for the price. She was very impressed that, for the money, she was like, I think they're excellent products. And the. The fan favorite, just so people know, is the milky sandalwood. It's called Blake Brown, by the way.
B
Yeah.
A
Milky Sandalwood Rich Reset Pre shampoo mask. It's $25 US it's a pre shampoo mask that is commonly described as being very effective for restoring softness, smoothing, and reducing. Yeah.
B
I think that this song is going to help Blake Lively's career. Not career, but Blake Lively's product line to surge again. Because she couldn't even be out here promoting it whatsoever because she started promoting it tied to the movie.
A
Right.
B
Lesson hard, lesson learned. The hair in the campaign was what I thought was really bad. Do you remember it? It was like she was basically saying the whole premise was like, we don't need conditioner. You remember that?
A
No. Yeah.
B
So there's no conditioners in the line. Yes. It's all hair masks. It's shampoos and hair masks. But it was like girlfriend. Girlfriend could have used a conditioner. Speaking as someone who doesn't use a lot of conditioner. But in the. In the. In the. In the campaign Anyway, so my, my pick for that just very quickly with canceled, is a ride or dye mascara that Taylor. I've seen her use time and time again. She has been using it for, I'd say a better part of a decade now. Is the too faced better than sex mascara. And she's put it on. I've seen her in images putting it on, whatnot, and she reaches for it time and again. And it's still a great mascara. That is not talked about a lot, but I think it's very telling that she goes back to a classic. And.
A
And how does it tie into canceled? Because it's called two faced.
B
Well, I'm just saying that her ride or dynast.
A
Oh.
B
Doesn't only extend to friendships. And two faced husband canceled.
A
Yeah.
B
It had. It had a moment. So I think she's quite loyal in whether that's her mascara or to her friends.
A
Okay. I love that. All right. Next song is Honey.
B
Didn't like this one.
A
Ah.
B
Upon first listen. Okay. But maybe it'll grow on me again. I. I need to get in a car and the windows need to be down.
A
I think that this was a love letter to Travis. She basically says that she used to be called Honey in the past and she hated it. You know how it's very divisive, condescending when people say, listen, Honey.
B
Yeah.
A
And so she didn't like that. But now the way Travis says Honey.
B
Yeah.
A
She loves it and it's comforting and the meaning has completely changed.
B
Yeah. She says if anyone called me Honey, it was standing in the bathroom, white teeth, and they were saying that the skirt don't fit me. And I cried the whole way home. But you touch my face. Redefined all those blues when you say Honey.
A
That's right. Now in the world of honey, do.
B
You know it's the only thing that never expires? I learned that on a Jeopardy. Final. Jeopardy.
A
Oh, my gosh. I did not.
B
Isn't that interesting?
A
It is interesting.
B
So if any of you people are doomsdayers out there, fill your cellar. Yeah.
A
You know what? We've had this conversation in the past. I'm a big fan of Honey. I love that it's a natural product, but it actually has clinicals around it like it. It has been used in hospitals. It is very healing. And you can ethically source honey while protecting the bees. So yeah, it's not like you're, you know, bees are being harmed in this process.
B
Anti inflammatory. First thing I do is like, like in the winter I just start taking manuka honey anyway. Go ahead.
A
Exactly. So Guerlain, they're all about saving the bees and they created something that's quite novel. It's called the Guerlain Abel. It's that a B E I, I think it's called, I think Royale B Lab Shot.
B
Okay.
A
This is very unique. This launched in August. It's $60 US79 in Canada. It's very. Is. Is basically a very extravagant skin care treatment and is a seven day shock treatment. They say. So each day for seven days you take one of these. Okay. I'm holding it here. Here is the, the girl in shot. So what you do is you take this little tube. It looks like a tester tube from the lab. And there's these little balls in here. Joe.
B
Ooh.
A
Here. Get ready to capsules. No, they're.
B
It kind of reminds me of a cotton candy texture.
A
That's right. Okay, bring your hand over here.
B
Oh, sorry. I started messing it up already.
A
Come over here. Come, come. So what you do is you drop 10 drops, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 of this other.
B
Feels expensive.
A
Which is the Youth Watery Oil Serum.
B
That freaking product.
A
I was gonna say we love this product. So you blend them together. They're sold separately and it, it makes that little ball, the cotton candy ball, just melt. Absolutely melt. So what I think that this is, is almost like you know, powders. Like how Vitamin C powder.
B
Yeah.
A
They would. To keep it stable, they would have powders that you could buy and then you would mix it. Right. They didn't really go that far. People didn't really love this idea. But that's basically what this is. So what it's comprised of is black bee honey from Norway. And it's formulated with 20 vitamin C G in spheres crystallized at minus 40 degrees Celsius, designed to melt perfectly under 10 drops of youth Watery Oil Serum B Lab Shot embodies ABA Royale Sciences cutting edge innovation. It has a patent around it. It's been tested on like over a hundred women. And they all say that they feel like their skin is fresher, brighter and wrinkles are filled in after. After seven days. So I've only used it like three times experience. But it does feel really fresh and lovely. We know vitamin C is good. I think it's like that powder idea. It's the. It's a way of keeping that concentration and not having it go off, but in a much more elegant 2025 format. It's kind of like a ritual.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
So that's, that's what I have to say about. About Honey. Which brings us to the last song, the life of a Showgirl. Yes.
B
So this is really about her, I think, bidding adieu to this, the ERAS tour certainly, and this notion of Taylor as the show girl. In a lot of the imagery leading up to the release of this album, there was director Taylor. Taylor, the real person and then her directing the showgirl. Come on baby, get into it. And there's literally one thing where she's trying to like hold this poster up. And the showgirl version of Taylor kicks over a bucket. Like literally kicking the bucket.
A
Yeah, yeah.
B
So I think this is kind of like her bidding adieu to this era. And who better to accompany her on that journey and maybe pass the torch a bit than the ultimate showgirl right now, which is Sabrina Carpenter. And there's a lyric, I don't remember if it's in this particular song or another one on this album, but she's basically talking about how the industry is like waiting for her to die. And she's like, you, I'm immortal now. My picture's on the wall.
A
Yeah.
B
So she's just like, my work here is done. I again, I own this industry now and I will write off and do my next thing when I feel like it. Anyway, my pick for the Showgirl look and how you can easily become a showgirl yourself without the Bob Mackie connection is the phaseit makeup patches. So F A Z I T. And.
A
They actually haze that if you're in Canada.
B
Exactly. So these are the temporary makeup patches, glitter freckles, which Taylor actually wore to a Chiefs game and overnight turned this sort of mom and pop indie brand into a huge sensation. Like, blew it up.
A
Yeah, Love those.
B
It's so incredible. And so they've expanded since the glitter freckles and they actually came out with a whole life of a showgirl collection.
A
Really?
B
Yeah. Which is sold out right now. I tried to get that. The brand has send it to me and they wanted to, but there was. They just didn't have the samples. So they have show stopping speckles which are kind of the colorway of the. The teal and the orange. They're glitter beetles. Yeah. And then they also expanded into eye glitter patches.
A
Oh, interesting.
B
So for this particular, for the showgirl, they have like green, orange and white Stars.
A
Yep.
B
That go across the eye and then they have decollete patches now.
A
Yes, I've seen those.
B
Knows it's kind of coming full circle.
A
So I love that. I love that. Because if you're not a makeup artist, it's so easy to do. Anyone can do it and make it super accessible. I wear these like stick on sparkles sometimes when I go out and I'm having a night or like for New Year's, stuff like that. And I love it because I wore.
B
Them to the Eras tour. Yeah.
A
So great.
B
And I want to also shout out that this brand is on Amazon. So check it out. It's, it's. It's Amazon prime day right now. We'll link to it if it is on sale because at one point they had these on sale for $13 and 13 cents. So if you're a Swifty, you know, you know 13 is Taylor's lucky number. There's always.
A
It doesn't end.
B
There's always lore.
A
It doesn't end.
B
They. I, I feel like it's really great to just. These are really fun and you're supporting a small business.
A
There you go. And if you are not into glitter, let's go With Taylor's signature red lip. There is a new lipstick in town. It's the rouge Dior on stage. It's a shine lipstick with extreme performance. 48 US and 65 in Canada. I wore this one last night. It's called Red Shock. It's in this long cigarette like bullet with the CD logo. I think this is a new CD logo.
B
Chic Chic.
A
Yeah. And I think they're my be shoes that have come out with this CD on it. So of course Peter Phillips, the creative director came up with this and it's all about having a really shiny lipstick that is said to last for 24 hours. I wore it last night. I wouldn't say that it lasted through my entire three course meal, but it is a very comfortable lipstick that is probably longer wear than your typical fully pigmented high shine lipstick. And there are 10 shades from the most essential to the most daring.
B
Amazing. Well, this was really fun. We went through this track by track. Probably by the time this episode comes out she will have released more tracks because that's what she does. There's Reputation vault tracks. We know those are coming. They're probably out right now. And it's endless source of fun and inspiration to talk about Taylor. Like I said at the beginning, love her or loathe her, you can't ignore her. And I'm excited to see what like her wedding look is going to be.
A
Right? Well we'll be excited for that. Who's her makeup artist that we need to follow on Instagram?
B
Lori Turk. And by the way, yes, anything that we've talked about that I said Taylor has used herself. I have triple checked that and it's been either confirmed by Taylor or her makeup artist.
A
Okay great.
B
It's L O R R I E and she talk about loyalty. She always uses the uses the same stylist, same hair person, same makeup person.
A
