I have to say you're in for a treat because Lily really surprised me. You just sometimes you never know with a celebrity and a beauty brand. You know how guarded they're going to be or how much they're willing to go there. And she was very straightforward. Not a talking head at all. You guys are going to love this chat. And if you're not familiar with Personal Day, it is a brand that is on the rise. It's gone viral on TikTok for a couple of products, one of them being the Blackhead melting strips and also the hypochlorus spray. And I'm sure it helps that everything is under $40.
Carlene Higgins
It's not just Lily in the lab creating all these products. She has advisory board, they have a certified dermatologist as well as a psychotherapist. And that combo is really all about educating and informing the product development, but the realities of living with breakouts and acne because that can be a hit to the confidence. So I love that they have this combo on the advisory board.
Jill Dunn
Yeah. And Lily relates to this topic herself personally. She has a following on social media of over 24 million followers on Instagram alone. And of course, just being under the bright lights by being on shows like Riverdale. She definitely knows what it's like to have the spotlight on your skin 247 and Carlene.
Carlene Higgins
I was obsessed with Lily Reinhart in the movie Hustlers. She stole every scene from JLo. And she's also building a career as a producer. She has Small Victory Productions. She's starring in a lot of upcoming films like the witchy ensemble feature called Forbidden Fruits, the horror comedy that's coming out later this month that also stars Emma Chamberlain. And we play a fun game of rapid fire with Lily that's all about if it's forbidden or not. So stay tuned to the end for that.

Yes.
Jill Dunn
And we also discuss how Lily navigates the intense pressures of Hollywood. This is a pressure that she's been very candid about previously in relation to body image. And so we really go deep on how she's using her influence now, even as a producer, to impact her team. This is a beauty podcast, so we're going to find out what is on Lily's top shelf when it comes to makeup hair products. As someone who has also been vocal about having alopecia herself, we find out what is the number one favorite product from personal day that helps her keep her acne at bay. And we find out what keeps her grounded beyond beauty products.
Carlene Higgins
Everything that we mentioned today will be linked on our website@breaking beautypodcast.com and please share this episode with a friend. Follow us on Instagram for some juicy clips from this episode. Welcome, Lily Reinhart.

Welcome to Breaking Beauty Podcast. Lily. Thank you for joining us.
Lily Reinhart
Thank you. Thanks for having me.
Carlene Higgins
I'm so excited that this day has arrived. And congrats on personal day because that's your brand. It launched about a year ago.
Lily Reinhart
Just over a year ago. Yeah, we just had our first birthday.
Carlene Higgins
It's so exciting. Let's, let's fill our listeners in on like what the story was, why you wanted to create this brand.
Lily Reinhart
Yeah. Oh gosh. Well, I'm primarily an actor and I feel like at a certain point, just to be blunt about it, in like an actor or performer's career. People come to you and say, do you want to start a brand? And I said no. This was, I don't know, five years ago. I said no, because I don't want to have a brand, just to have a brand. And I think that's like I'm the first person to call out when there's something not authentic happening between the face of something and then a product. If there's no organic relationship. So anyways, no one had said skin care. Like that idea wasn't brought up. I just kind of was like, it doesn't really interest me. I'm still building my career as an actor. I want to keep just charging down that road. And then kind of a couple years go by and the idea of a skincare line came about and I'm not even really sure from who, but I think it was honestly I had been and have been vocal about acne since I was 19 and I'm 29 now. And it always, always, always resonated with my following. And I think it's because I had a lot of young women and have women who follow me. And I was on Riverdale, the show that I was on, posting about my skin in real time while being on the show. And I think I never expected anything to come out of it, but I wanted to. I'm someone who feels better about things when I share my experiences. I don't want to feel alone. And so I started talking about my acne and how I felt very isolated looking around and I was the only one who had bad acne on my Show in my 20s it made me feel bad. And so I was sort of looking for a little bit of community online and I found it through my own fan base, which was incredible and I think so. Then years later when the idea of a skincare line came about, it actually made a lot of sense.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
Not because I'm a dermatologist, but because I have a platform with which I think I could really help spread the word of a brand that had an important message. And ours quickly turned into Personal Day as a brand that's free of acne triggering ingredients for acne prone and sensitive skin. People in mind, anyone and everyone can use it, but it's for people with skin like me who really have to be careful about what about what they use on a day to day basis. And. And that's kind of was the birth of it. But it took many years and I said no a few times and rolled my eyes at the idea of just putting something out there that already existed, I didn't want to do that. And then when I found out that I could create these products that actually really added something to the market in terms of not just overcrowding it, but creating its own little section of, oh, this can actually be something really trustworthy for people to know. Oh, this line is completely safe for my skin. That was really appealing to me, and that's where it was like the light bulb of, oh, let's go. Green light moment for me as the founder.
Carlene Higgins
I appreciate your honesty because I don't think it's been that it's talked about that often that things just come across your desk when you do get to be a certain profile or you have a certain following. And there are a lot of people that just say, why? You see the rev share, and you're like, okay, fine.
Lily Reinhart
You know, maybe they don't know how much work it's gonna be.
Carlene Higgins
Touche.
Lily Reinhart
Because I didn't. I really didn't. And I think in hindsight would have been like, someone maybe should have told me, but. But I don't regret it. And it's a huge part of my life now. It's like it's a major pillar of my career that I. Five years ago, I never thought ever I would be in this position. So it's been a, you know, a. Just an insane trajectory that I didn't expect to find myself on.
Jill Dunn
I think a lot of people relate to the story that you were talking about with struggling with acne and especially now with social media. Oh, my goodness. It's like everybody is in front of a camera to a certain extent. What were some of the solutions that you tried? The DIY solutions?
Lily Reinhart
Everything. I got acne when I was 12, and it was cystic, so I would get a beautifully large pimple in the center of my forehead. That was a reoccurring one for me. She was. She was there all the time. And. And then I would have blackheads and congestion and little pimples here and there, but I would get big, angry ones. And so I went to the dermatologist when I was young, and dermatologists are very hit or miss for me. I think, like a lot of doctors, I have a lot of health issues, so I have to see a lot of doctors all the time. And I've, Especially in the last few years, really have to have had to, like, kind of regain some trust in. In the medical field after. Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
Anyways, it's kind of exhausting when you have to constantly, like, advocate for yourself. You Go into the office and you're like, I gotta ask these questions. And what kind of.
Jill Dunn
It's a lot.
Lily Reinhart
And knowing. Waiting for an appointment and in the room sometimes you can get caught up and then you leave and you go, wait, I have 30 questions. But I can't just like call them up and ask. But I tried. I got facials every now and then when I was a kid. And I remember the mirror when I was a teenager, getting up from the table and looking in the mirror and thinking, oh, my acne is going to be gone. But it wasn't and it was still there. And I went on birth control and I went on spironolactone and I didn't go on accutane until my 20s, which I ended up going on twice. It came back with a vengeance and much worse, actually. And a completely different type of acne. It came back, which is so weird. But I tried everything. And also at this point in my life, I was working six days a week, 15 hours a day with like heavy foundation and powder on my face every, all day long. So the acne was not getting any better. And it really came down to my day to day products because I could do lasers and I could do facials and treatments and whatever and come go home with a topical. That probably won't work because they, these prescription topicals like don't usually work for me. But it really wasn't until I started working with my esthetician whose name's Sarah Ford and she's here in Beverly Hills. And she suggested to me that I needed to start looking at the ingredients of my skin care, which sounded. Seems obvious when you say it out loud like we are, but it was not obvious to me. And I just trusted that what I was using was not going to harm me. And if, certainly if it were expensive, that wouldn't break me out. And then looking at the ingredients actually more closely, it's full of acne triggers. Once I got rid of those products that I had, which was hard because I love products, but when I got rid of all of those, my skin had the biggest transformation in years because I was realizing what I was using on a daily basis was actively flaring me.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, yeah, there. That's the sad truth of it with there's so many products out there, but it's like the less you do sometimes the better because there's a lot of things that people do that are not right for them. That that's a huge part of it. So your line has been out for a year and you have the two products that have already gone viral, the hypochlorous acid spray and the blackhead melting strips, which sounds like. That just sounds like something that I want to try.
Lily Reinhart
Right.
Jill Dunn
What's the secret sauce behind, like, going viral on Tik Tok and then converting that into real world sales? Because this is something as a brand founder, you have to think about now.
Lily Reinhart
Yeah. I would like to say we, we definitely don't approach product development as what's going to go viral. I think we'd have a lot crazier products. I think it's just more so we take products, sometimes products that already exist. Like there are blackhead strips, but these are. Instead of ripping your skin off your face, they're melting the dirt in your pores. So then you squeeze them out. So it's like taking something that already exists, but making it a lot better, eliminating the triggers, and like elevating the technology behind it.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
So that's sort of. Yeah. And that seems. I mean, that really resonated with. You could just rip it.
Carlene Higgins
I need to see what these look like, everybody.
Lily Reinhart
So they're wet.
Carlene Higgins
You want to open it? Oh, sure.
Lily Reinhart
And they, they come with a little extractor tool, which, if you don't have one, I feel like most people have a little extractor tool.
Carlene Higgins
Maybe not one looks very legitimate, though.
Lily Reinhart
So. Yeah, you would rest that right here. Open up your little pore strip. It's so it's wet and it does not dry, so it stays wet. So I will, for example, when I use this on my boyfriend and I torture him, I put it on his nose for 15ish minutes. And then there's a lot of liquid in here. Like you can squeeze. I don't want to get kind of
Carlene Higgins
like a sheet mask for your blackheads.
Lily Reinhart
It looks like a sheet. It has nanotechnology that's working to melt the dirt in your. That make up the blackheads so that they come out so easily.
Carlene Higgins
So when you let it. So does it dry or.
Lily Reinhart
No, it stays wet. So it stays wet.
Carlene Higgins
Okay, so when you do this to your boyfriend, what's your process? You put it on?
Lily Reinhart
Well, I say take a shower steam to open up your pores. And then I literally have a.
Carlene Higgins
You're like, lie down and let me get this tool.
Lily Reinhart
Lie down. No, we do it on the bed. I have a headlamp.
Carlene Higgins
Stop.
Lily Reinhart
From Amazon.
Jill Dunn
Wow.
Lily Reinhart
And I. Yes, there's photos of this that will not be released. And I have my little light and I lay him in front of me. His head goes on my lap. I don't know. He's probably. I'm like, would he care that I'm saying this? I don't. Probably not. And then I. And then I put the thing, the strip on his nose, and it sits there for 15 minutes after the shower. And then that's the tool. You know, you can use that tool. I take a little like a flat, more spatula like tool and I will.
Carlene Higgins
The most satisfying thing. Why is it more satisfying to do it on someone else?
Lily Reinhart
Well, you know, it's satisfying to do it on guys.
Carlene Higgins
They just have like bigger gunk and
Lily Reinhart
they come out so easily.
Carlene Higgins
Really.
Lily Reinhart
It's like, I haven't truly. If I could. If I could back a product right now. It's the no strips. It's really.
Jill Dunn
Try this. I'm just gonna.
Lily Reinhart
Very satisfying.
Jill Dunn
Throw it some ingredients. Licorice root extract is in there. Azelaic acid, Camellia senescence. I don't know how to say that. Anyways, Camellia sinensis leaf extract, tea tree extract and lemon fruit extract. So that's what's in there.
Lily Reinhart
That's in there.
Jill Dunn
Okay.
Carlene Higgins
It's also called unplug, which I think is brilliant. They unplug. Blackhead melting nose strips.
Jill Dunn
Thank you.
Carlene Higgins
I love this.
Jill Dunn
I think with. There's a thing with.
Carlene Higgins
With.
Jill Dunn
With people who have acne. And I used to have whiteheads when I was a teenager, but there's something about, like the satisfaction of seeing something come out. Come out.
Lily Reinhart
I was on, I think, pimple popping videos.com growing up. Or no. Popthatzit.com.
Jill Dunn
oh, my gosh.
Lily Reinhart
And don't quote me on that. But I think that was it. Yeah. And I was so addicted to those videos. And this was in time before Tick Tock. And like, it was a little bit harder to find that specific thing, which has exhausting and so satisfying. I'm not. I'm honestly not as into it now that I'm older.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
But when I. And I would like, do it to my little sister too, in real time, I would. She. I was probably. I was like a little aggressive. I was like, I'm getting those blackheads on your chin and on your nose and there's nothing you can do about it.
Jill Dunn
Yeah. You also have the hypochlorous acid.
Lily Reinhart
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
Spray, which everybody loves. So how do you use that?
Lily Reinhart
And we have a gel version, but this way I have four of them sitting around my house at all times kind of in like all the rooms. I use it throughout the day. I use it almost as a makeup setter. In a way. Not that it sets the makeup, but it just makes me feel like, okay, I did my makeup and now I can spray to get rid of the bacteria, if there is any. So it's antibacterial spray and it's non drying alcohol free and there's no fragrance. And it has a really fine mist which is so nice over makeup. But I also will do it after I wash my face. It just feels like a nice reset and eliminates redness and irritation. So right now I have perioral dermatitis and seb derm, which is what my Dr. Romina, who's on our board, I asked her advice the other day. Seborrhatic dermatitis, I think was the name.
Carlene Higgins
Yes.
Lily Reinhart
So she called it seb derm. And I have that around my nose and I've kind of always had that. And apparently it's like basically just rosacea. And our products work. Work really nicely for people who have. It's my skin type and skin like that. So I've been trying some things, but all. But I'll, you know, spray the mist of hypochloris all day long a few times and it's absolutely helped take the redness and like fiery kind of itchiness away from that.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah, I think a lot of people use that type of spray after the gym as well.
Podcast Announcer
Yeah, that's what I mean.
Lily Reinhart
There's so many uses. You can spray it on your smelly shoes. You can do it. People use it for the keratosis on the back of their arms. There's a lot. There's lots of use. But definitely after the. The gym for sure. Any kind of sweaty. I went to the doctor today and I used it after I got out of the gross office.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, it's a handy little pocket size version that, that I got which is great. And you have something new.
Lily Reinhart
So this is our soft slip priming milk. And it's in our nice little. We just. This is our first product in an ivory bottle.
Jill Dunn
Lovely.
Lily Reinhart
Introducing different colors. And this is. I'm very excited about this. I used this all summer when I was shooting a movie in Montreal. It was my makeup primer. So it is a priming milk. So you use it under makeup or just on its own if you're going foundation free. But I. It creates a really hydrated base for product makeups, makeup product. And I find that there's sort of this myth that if you have acne, you can't have like a dewy look to your skin because it needs to be Matte. You need to hide things, you need to powder things. And. And I understand because a lot of products that do cause a dewy glow are full of really bad triggers. So that makes sense. So we wanted to create obviously the acne safe version that people with acne prone skin can have a dewy, really beautifully hydrated base without feeling like they're gonna break out the second they take their makeup off.
Carlene Higgins
And how are you using this in your routine? Like what step of your routine and stuff?
Lily Reinhart
I feel like. So I use my cleanser. Let's say in the morning I'll use my cleanser and my powder cleanser and then I'll use my moisturizer. And then before I start my makeup, I'll put this all over and then I. It's really good to use with like, I use a firm like a tightening wand or whatever. An led. It's like a microcurrent.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
Device and a skin sculpting device. And I'll use this actually helps glide the machine on my face. So I'll use it. That's like my. I don't use that every day. The machine. But. And I also don't use this every single day. I definitely use it before makeup though. And if I just want my skin to look really dewy without. Without a foundation.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
Do you notice the machine really helps?
Lily Reinhart
Like, do you notice it's more long term use? You have to be really consistent. And I don't. I'm really poorly disciplined usually when it comes to stuff like any extra going above and beyond is sort of hard for me to do. But basic skin care, yes, I'm very consistent and disciplined. But the machine, I'll do it on like the day of an event or when I'm shooting. I'm really good about it.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins

You've been very candid and you know, in, in today's conversation and in the past about being in the spotlight and on Riverdale, you've talked about body dysmorphia and, and eating disorder as well. What advice would you have for actors or even content creators? Because like I said, there's so many of them who are in front of the camera too and putting a lot of pressure on themselves.
Lily Reinhart
I think we're all in front of a camera whether we kind of want to be or not. I think even the people who aren't on Social are being photos of them are being taken just sort of, it's sort of like I saw this on TikTok. It's like we're really in a time of ultimate surveillance. Everything you do is somewhere on camera, somewhere. And it's scary. But also, God, I think it sucked the fun out of a lot. I think. What was I watching? I was watching the this Amazon prime movie called Hedda and I don't know what it's in the early. I don't know what it is if it's the 1940s or 50s. And it made me think about how fun parties must have been back then when there was no one ever poss. You could never have a photo taken of you in that setting. And how I think the fact that, that we're constantly being video videotaped and photographed has really made us so much less free as people And I think it's really sucks.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
But I think it's sort of the age. It's our currency is being on camera. It's how so many people make a living. It's how I make a living. But also I love that it's given the opportunity for people to make a living from their living room. I think that's incredible. You know, people can buy a house because they're making videos in their bedroom. That's insane. Yeah, in. In a great way. But I also do see a big downside to it. And see recently, actually a lot of conversation about not because I'm looking for it, it'll just pop up on my feed, but like influencers losing weight and how some people feel like they're entitled to be told whether a creator is on Ozempic or something.
Carlene Higgins
And it's.
Lily Reinhart
I also think we're living in a time of severe entitlement, because if someone's putting themself on camera, I think it's assumed then that they need to tell you everything that's going on in their life. And I just think it's a big misunderstanding and that you should be able to be present on camera without owing people an explanation.
Carlene Higgins
Right.
Lily Reinhart
But I think, I mean, I say, like, show yourself to whatever degree you're comfortable. And I think I've put. I put boundaries up around even like, logistical things. Like, if you're in my house, my friends know not to just take a photo of my front door or my garage. You know, it's like literal safety reasons why you can't share certain things when we're together. But also in terms of, I think how you look, I really. I personally try not to be. You know, someone takes a photo of me, I usually don't say, oh, let me see it. Like, let me make sure it's okay. I kind of just try to let it be. And I think subconsciously it's a bit like if I don't control how other people on the street see me. So if you take a photo of me, that's how you. That's how I looked in that moment. And I don't really want to be perceived as curated and perfect all the time, because I'm absolutely not. And I cannot live up to that expectation. So I think it's almost sort of a protective measure of. I don't want to live up to an expectation that I. I can't uphold. And even. I got sent photos today of a shoot that's coming out tomorrow, and I'm like, I don't look like that. I mean I do I guess when I have two hours of hair and makeup. But I almost, I feel sort of silly sometimes when I post these photos because it's truly doesn't feel like me. It's like, okay, here's this photo that you guys can like and say you think I look hot. And that's just so not what I look like on a day to. Day to day basis. But yeah, it's a part of the job, I guess. But I guess I would never want to present myself as this 247 gorgeously made up person because holy hell, I would just never live up to that.
Jill Dunn
It's a lot of pressure. Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
You would never leave the house.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
Well, thank you for your candid response. That's I think really important for people to hear. And looking ahead this year you're set to star in Forbidden Fruits with an ensemble cast that includes Lola Tung from the summer I turned Pretty. Emma Chamberlain, who I love and I guess that's her debut in film, which is incredible. And I'm really excited because this is kind of like charmed practical magic, right? Is that what you would say? So what's that been like?
Lily Reinhart
That was such a fun. It's a movie that I was attached to for two years before we shot, which usually, I mean there is no usual in filmmaking. I don't know anymore. I just, I was attached for two years and it was. Was incredibly fun and challenging in the sense that it was mostly nights. So I was showing up to work at 8pm and driving home during morning rush hour at 9am wow. So in that sense it was incredibly challenging. But in the filming sense I had so much fun and love the character so much and it's so fun to me that we sort of, you know, it's like feels very secretive and sometimes people are sharing. Another movie I did this year, I was posting videos while I was shooting and it was not secretive at all. But this one actually feels very secretive and like no one knows what I look like in the movie and no one knows anything really. So it feels fun to be a part of something that's totally secret until it's already over with. And it's like your opinion doesn't matter. It's already filmed and there's no changing it. So that will be coming out in spring 2026. But that's a very. Yeah, it's a witchy. Did you guys see Jennifer's body?
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
So it's in the comedic vein of Jennifer's body type of Humor, which I love.
Jill Dunn
Love. And so does it have, like, a Y2K type of a vibe or Y2K?
Lily Reinhart
Like, the way that Gen Z more. It feels more Gen Z than Millennial.
Jill Dunn
Okay. Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
What would. I mean, early 2000.
Jill Dunn
No, I mean, I'm thinking back to those. To those movies, like, the Craft and, like.
Lily Reinhart
Yeah, I would say definitely. Definitely that kind of.
Jill Dunn
Was anyone wearing chokers?
Carlene Higgins
Me, for sure. Yeah.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
That was a good call. Out.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
There you go.
Carlene Higgins
Okay. I'm excited to see the movie whenever it does come out.
Jill Dunn
Thank you. What's the biggest myth? Beauty. Myth about celebrity beauty or, like, on set skin?
Lily Reinhart
Just that everyone has good skin.
Podcast Announcer
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
It's such. I mean, I'm. I've seen it. My skin sucked. And even, you know, I feel like I do this a lot. I also have ocd, so when I'm feeling super insecure about something on my body, that's the first thing I look at on someone else. So if I have a large pimple, the first thing I'm looking at when I talk to anybody is their skin and, like, that area of their face, what's going on there? And I zero in on it. And I think a lot of. I was doing that a lot in my early 20s, and I was being exposed to celebrities and famous people all the time around me, and I was looking at their skin, and I. A lot of them have gorgeous skin. Most like, I feel like a lot of. A lot of them do. They really do. Their skin's beautiful. They're being. They get facials all the time. They have top dermatologists working on them, whatever. But there's a lot of people who don't have great skin, and yet online, it seems as if they do.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Podcast Announcer
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
So, you know, I just think, especially now, today, you never know what. What someone's skin actually looks like. And of course, if you can hide a big pimple, you're going to. With a filter or something, but.
Carlene Higgins
Or with the. With two hours of glam.
Lily Reinhart
I mean. Yeah, exactly. Or lighting or whatever. I just think it's a bit. It was a big myth that celebrities have perfect skin.
Podcast Announcer
Today's episode is brought to you in part by Merit. So, as you guys know, we try so many products here at Breaking Beauty, and people often ask me, what is the makeup that's really in my makeup bag? There's always going to be something from Merit. Merit Beauty believes great makeup should be effortless, and that just fits with my lifestyle. I'm lazy, busy, and I really appreciate thoughtfully curated essentials like what Merit offers that helps me to look polished in just a few minutes when I'm going out the door. I'm not great at washing my makeup brushes, so if I can apply it with my fingers, that is a bonus. Let me give you one example. The minimalist from Merit. This product is. Oh, it gives you that polished, natural look in minutes. It's not quite a foundation, not quite a concealer, but it kind of replaces both. It gives you you natural coverage. You can just spread it with your fingers and it blends in perfectly with a seamless finish. It's like a kind of a pencil or a chunky pencil type of a idea so it doesn't take up too much room if you want to throw it in your purse. And people are just in love with their flesh bombs as well. That gives you a natural, healthy glow without overdoing it. And one was actually sold every 30 seconds in 2024. That's how good it is. I feel like for people who aren't kind of professional makeup artists aren't great at doing their makeup. This is like that. Basically, you can't mess it up at all with anything from Merit. I'm obsessed with their lip liners as well. And right now, Merit Beauty is offering our listeners their signature makeup bag with your first order@merit beauty.com that's me. R I T beauty.com to get your free signature makeup bag. It's so cute you guys with your first order. That's meritbeauty.com Sephora is one of our
Carlene Higgins
show partners this week. I love going into a Sephora store and chatting up their knowledgeable beauty advisors. I honestly feel like the beauty advisors at Sephora are kind of like mini beauty editors. And the reason is they are getting training from so many different brands. They just have so much knowledge to share, no matter what your skin type is. So for me, I'm oily skin. I'm always asking the Sephora beauty advisors, like, what's the best sunscreen that's flying off the shelves for oily skin? Or if you have specific questions about retinol, you want to get on a retinol routine that you don't want to quit, or if you're just looking for barrier health and barrier protection. They really have so many incredible brands under one roof. And you can trust that the Sephora beauty advisors are going to know which direction to point you in. And Sephora really is that skincare authority. So they have top brands, of course, like summer Fridays. They have road. I love that you can Shop the road glazing milk at Sephora now. It makes it so easy. Of course they have Laneige which is like the queen of K beauty. There's so many skincare products from Laneige that I love and also from Caudalie and Caudalie is a French skincare darling and they have products whether you're acne prone or normal skin or if you want to get into an anti aging routine, Caudalie has you covered at all. They really have so many incredible brands under one roof and you can trust that the Sephora beauty advisors are going to know know which direction to point you in. Sephora really is that skincare authority. So in the overwhelming world of skin care, shop Sephora. You can shop Skincare at Sephora now and in store. You have a lot of projects coming up for 2026. What's the most important piece of mental health advice or self care that you practice to keep the balance when things feel kind of overwhelming or you have a bad day?
Lily Reinhart
I always am trying something new, which I appreciate about myself. For someone who's struggled with depression since I was really, really young. I think something I can say is that I never stop trying to find solutions or things that ease the struggle. So. Meaning I've never in my life done any work with neuroplasticity of my brain up until a week ago. So that's something that I just started diving into about, you know, your thought patterns. You have repetitively over and over for years and years and years. And then it's trying to change those patterns to be more positive or more whatever you want them to be. And so it's actually working with your. The brain itself and thought patterns. And that's something that I haven't done before that I just started trying. So it's just new, different innovative ways. After years of regular talk therapy just kind of didn't cut it for me anymore. And then I did a lot of spiritual work which I still do. And now I'm trying. I'm like let's tackle the real problem.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
Which is my freaking brain.
Jill Dunn
Yeah. So where does one go to try to retrain your.
Lily Reinhart
I mean I'm working with a friend and she works with big founders and people in the, a lot of, of business people who want to and can, you know, handle the price tag doing that. I didn't want to come off as well as. But I. But yeah, she was helping me out a little bit and I'm excited to keep pursuing that work because I find it really fascinating. It's Fascinating.
Carlene Higgins
Do you have any examples that you could share? I don't know if you're willing to share, but.
Lily Reinhart
Well, I think just like a good example of how I started to view it and how I've seen people talk about it is. Is it's almost like the thoughts that you, like, let's say if you think you're unlucky, like, I have bad luck. I have bad luck. And you've been thinking that since you were seven. You're gonna have, like, visually kind of imagine it as a ski slope of, like, these. This track of. That. Your brain just immediately is going to follow that track because it's been indented in the snow already thousands and thousands of times. So that's just immediately where your thoughts are going to go. Something bad happens. Oh, I'm unlucky. There it is, going down the hill. And so it's a matter of kind of stopping the thought and thinking and turning it on its head and creating that new neural pathway. And it's hard. I mean, I catch myself because I'm kind of in the thick of doing the work. So today especially, I've noticed my. I'm very pessimistic by nature. That's just my brain's path. And so today especially, I've been trying to stop myself right when it happens and think the opposite thought just to help, not make that the immediate reaction of my brain. And maybe, maybe eventually it'll, you know, take. Take the positive path immediately. That's the goal.
Jill Dunn
I wonder if that friend of yours has a family discount for the friends and family discount for my entire family.
Carlene Higgins
And, sorry, the person that you're working with, what does.
Lily Reinhart
What's.
Carlene Higgins
What's her name?
Lily Reinhart
Amina Zamani.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
She has a little Instagram immediate follow. And are you still working at, like, dabbling in Reiki? Because I read that you actually weren't just, like, undergoing Reiki, but training to be.
Lily Reinhart
I'm a Reiki master.
Jill Dunn
You are?
Lily Reinhart
Oh, my gosh.
Jill Dunn
Tell me about that.
Lily Reinhart
I did that in 20. I started that journey in 2020. And I think. When did I. I think. I think I didn't become a reiki master until 2020 or 2022. I think maybe it took me two years just because I took some. There's three levels, and I took three levels of training with the women I were working, I was working with, and it took me two years to, like, again, I'm not very disciplined, so to actually do it. And that was just. I mean, again, it came out of talk therapy, wasn't doing it anymore. And Covid hit, and I was going through a breakup, and I wanted to do something that felt deeper than just traditional therapy. And so I had had Reiki done to me a few years prior and really liked the experience. And it felt just sort of like the next level of, let me just try this. And it was really a really fun learning process of learning how to do it. And I actually don't. I do not practice it as much as I should, but I've actually been very good about meditating the last month and getting back into it. I do it when I'm doing an LED face mask because it's warm, and it sort of is. I mean, it's bright, and it sort of, like, tricks my brain into thinking that I'm doing something, because I think if I just lay there and close my eyes, I would never be able to lay there for 30 minutes unless I'm trying to fall asleep. But I'm a horrible sleeper. So that's. That's also a hard process. But I think because I have an LED light, it actually makes it easier to get into that zone, and the warmth helps. Yeah, yeah.
Carlene Higgins
Very cool.
Jill Dunn
That's a whole other episode. We'll have to have you back.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah, exactly.
Jill Dunn
And what about your makeup?
Carlene Higgins
I'm staring at your eye makeup right now. Oh, what is it?
Lily Reinhart
It's makeup by Mario palette.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah, the ethereal eyes one.
Lily Reinhart
Oh, no, that's the sparkly one. No, I do have that, but I actually, in my. Just in the last couple years, I cannot wear, like, any sparkles on my eyes. I have the most sensitive eyes, and my eyes, the next day, I'll wake up, and they'll be, like, closed shut from swelling. Found that out two years ago on New Year's Eve. Oh.
Carlene Higgins
Oh.
Lily Reinhart
After wearing sparkly the night before, I went to urgent care.
Jill Dunn
Oh, my goodness.
Lily Reinhart
And they gave my. Yeah, I may one. It's like my. I think my right eye was completely puffed up and, like, half closed. And it wasn't, like, yucky and crusty or anything. It was just.
Carlene Higgins
You're like, something's not right here.
Lily Reinhart
So sometimes I'll wake up and I can feel that my eyes are already swollen, and I'll, I don't know, use some ice or. I have, like, those heated eye packs that are really nice, but, yeah, I just have horribly.
Carlene Higgins
So what mascara do you find makes the grade for you in terms of sensitiveness?
Lily Reinhart
I like a lot of mascara. I like. I do like Armani mascara, and I like Dior and hourglass yeah, those are the ones. Right now we were to look in
Jill Dunn
your makeup bag, what would the foundation be that does make the grade.
Lily Reinhart
I love Shiseido. I also on Riverdale in the last. The latter seasons, once I was looking at the ingredients, liked House labs, I found that that was non comedogenic. But I right now use and ever, it's really hard to find something that has no triggering ingredients. So I'm like, I'll let one slide. One ingredient can slide if it doesn't, like, cause an insane reaction. So I use Shiseido right now. I have my Dior mascara. I have my makeup by Mario palette. I have what I just tried. Oh, no. A house labs blush. A little cream. I like a little cream blush. What am I using for? I use my Charlotte Tilbury, like, the duo bronzer.
Jill Dunn
Oh, yeah.
Lily Reinhart
I don't really use highlighter on a daily basis, but I keep. And then I use, like, an Anastasia or hourglass brow. Yeah, that's what's in there.
Carlene Higgins
And what about your hair care routine? Because I believe you've shared before that you were diagnosed with alopecia as well. So how have you worked with that and just making sure that you feel good about, you know, having the good hair days?
Lily Reinhart
My hair is rough.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
My hair is actually like, a big sore spot in my life. I hate my hair. And I. And it sounds really harsh, but I. But I, like, stand. I stand by it. I think it's something that I hope when I'm older, I can heal one thing at a time.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Lily Reinhart
Like, still working on the skin.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
We'll get to hair, like, postpartum or something.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
A few years ago, my hair started falling out. I had lost a lot of weight after getting off of antidepressants and birth control, and then it just kind of never really got better. Like, it started falling out, and it goes in waves. So when it was at its worst, I would be afraid to brush my hair. But when I would. I would. I mean, I would put my hand through my hair and, like, put it straight into the trash can.
Jill Dunn
So much was falling out that is traumatizing.
Lily Reinhart
It's really scary. And I did. Did a lot of PR f and PRP on my scalp, which is so painful, it's insane. It's the taking your own plasma from your blood and injecting it all over your head. And I think it was. It was kind of good in slowing the process of shedding, but it wasn't a cure by any means. And it is so Painful that I like. I know I should probably do it again actually, but I'm like. To get me to go into that office again. I don't know.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
Because you have to do multiple sessions
Jill Dunn
to see what's needles or micro needling.
Lily Reinhart
It's. It's needles, it's injections one at a time.
Jill Dunn
And I heard that you can do it with micro needling.
Carlene Higgins
You probably.
Jill Dunn
Maybe that will be less painful.
Lily Reinhart
Maybe something to look into. But. But so like hair care. I mean, I. I try. I'm like. I wish I was actually just thinking the other day, I'm like doing all these podcasts and stuff and I never know what to do with my goddamn hair. Just like let me get out or get it out of my face, I guess and. And put it in a claw clip and. Cause I have naturally extremely frizzy and wavy hair.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Lily Reinhart
But it's not like cute waves and it's not cute frizz. It's just bad. And then it's really like I have quite thin hair at the ends, so it's like quite thick at the top now that I've done my prp. And then it's like really thin at the bottom. So like I wouldn't want to walk around with my hair straight without extensions. I'd be. I mean, I do sometimes. I do, but sometimes it just makes me feel a little self conscious because of how thin it is. So usually I'll wear it up when I'm doing it myself because I don't. I don't have good hair. I just like want to get it out of the way. But I like Shu Yumura. Been a big fan for a while and I use some Kevin Murphy products, but I think I'm like a shoe girl.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah, they're like amazing. It treats the hair like fabric.
Lily Reinhart
I love the ultimate remedy mask and the moisture mask mask. And then I actually just started this year using a Kerastase thing for shedding. I don't know what it's called, but it's like in a little dropper. And I put it on my scalp the night before. I'm going to shower and wash my hair the next day because I'm not going to walk around with like the. My scalp all gross.
Carlene Higgins
But yeah, very French girl moment to do that. Do you always work at the same. With the same hair person and same makeup person?
Podcast Announcer
I.
Lily Reinhart
No, because they're always. They're working as well. So I have sort of like my. I feel like each, each person in the business ends up racking up like, three. Three people, three hair people, three makeup people that they can kind of go. And then also different. New York and LA are also usually different, so finding your people in both cities can be challenging. But I've found really good people that I love working with, and they know my skin. They're like, we know. They know my hair. They know my hair is difficult. And I bring my big bag of extensions that my colorist I've been working also, I have to give my colorist I've been working with since I was 19, so 10 years. His name's Matt Rez.
Carlene Higgins
Matt Rez. I literally was looking at your hair color, and I said, that is a Matte Rez color.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, he's been on our show. Lovely.
Carlene Higgins
He's a sweetheart.
Lily Reinhart
Years ago, I saw him and he took me from brunette to, like, a balayage slowly. And it was the longest someone had ever done my hair because of how, like, hair by hair. This man is so detail oriented. And I've never seen someone who's, like, better at their job. And I, again, I'm also. I'm very lucky. Like, people who I work, who I like, I don't want to say work with, but, like, I end up getting really close to them and, like, they become my family. Yeah, I feel really lucky to have that. And Matt feels like one of those people. And he calls me his ride or D, which is so nice. And I'm so lucky. But we're like, oh, we knew each other, you know, he did my hair before he started transitioning my hair to blonde before Riverdale, like, when I was auditioning and turning Betty Blonde. And so he did my hair all throughout Riverdale and is the reason why it's still on my head.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
He takes such good care of your hair.
Jill Dunn
Well, we have one last question, and then we have a rapid fire. So since Riverdale, you've made the leap to executive producer with your production company, Small Victory Productions. I'm curious how, looking back at your own experience as an actor and a young actor, is there a way that you're kind of hoping to, like, support young actors who are coming up in a way that maybe you didn't have that support in the past?
Lily Reinhart
I feel like. Well, it's also. It's hard because you don't. I feel like people don't love unsolicited advice. And I don't ever want to seem like I'm 29. I'm still very much figuring it out and learning. But, for example, I worked on Forbidden Fruits with Lola Tongue, who's. Was everywhere this summer because of Summer I turned pretty being the biggest show ever. And she's. I believe, I think she just turned 23. And so she was 22 when we shot and I was 28, which is pretty different times of our lives and also very different times of our careers. Like, she's really at the. It was the final season of her show, and it was the. It's like the biggest show of all time. And I think I really felt a very. I really want. Like, let me nurture you to her. And in not a creepy way, but I. I really felt like I wanted to take care of her. Not that it was my responsibility or my job or that she needed it, because she certainly did not, but it was more like I think I said, or I. I wanted it to be clear to her that I was saying whatever you need or whatever questions you have about this weird career that we're in and position you're in as a public figure, being in a hit show, being in a love triangle. Like, any questions, comments, concerns, if I can help?
Carlene Higgins
Help.
Lily Reinhart
I would love to.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
So I just. I wanted to offer up advice or help or friend. Mainly friendship if she wanted it, and I'm glad that she did. I have a sister who's all the same age as Lola, so it just feels natural for me to be like the big sister a little bit.
Jill Dunn
Okay, Lily, we're doing a rapid fire with you. It's a witchy edition in honor of your upcoming movie. So. So for the things that I. The random things I'm gonna mention, you're either gonna say forbidden if you're not for it or fruit if you are for it.
Lily Reinhart
Correct.
Jill Dunn
Okay, first off, swimming lessons, part two.
Lily Reinhart
Forbidden. Okay.
Jill Dunn
By the way, this is in reference to your book of poetry. Yeah, Swimming lessons. Glazed donut.
Lily Reinhart
Oh, fruit. Fruity. Big time Fruit.
Jill Dunn
Accutane.
Lily Reinhart
That's a really tricky. This is not rapid fire for me. Forbidden fruit. It was both. It was both.
Jill Dunn
Okay. Both can be true at the same time, guys. Love is blind. UK edition.
Lily Reinhart
Forbidden. I like the US Version. Sorry.
Podcast Announcer
Okay.
Jill Dunn
Fair. Pole dancing to work out.
Lily Reinhart
Oh, fruit. It's incredibly challenging.
Jill Dunn
Okay. It's very.
Lily Reinhart
You have to be very athletic to be pole dancing.
Jill Dunn
Okay. Dopamine decor or minimalist decor?
Lily Reinhart
I think dopamine.
Carlene Higgins
Okay, so it's fruit.
Lily Reinhart
So fruit.
Jill Dunn
Yes, Fruit. Digital detoxing.
Lily Reinhart
Oh, fruit.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Lily Reinhart
Yes.
Jill Dunn
Sleep tracking.
Lily Reinhart
I don't think those things are accurate.
Jill Dunn
Okay.
Lily Reinhart
I feel like I'll sleep, like. And I'll be like, you've got a hundred. Like this is not correct.
Jill Dunn
So I don't know. Absolutely. A ten step skincare routine.
Lily Reinhart
Forbidden for me. I don't need all that. I think less is more in my life right now.
Jill Dunn
Yeah. Okay. Buying vintage clothing.
Lily Reinhart
Fruit always.
Jill Dunn
Yes.
Carlene Higgins
What are your jeans right now?
Lily Reinhart
Silver Lake. Oh, yeah.
Jill Dunn
I like that brand.
Lily Reinhart
Yeah. Not vintage, but they look really good. Thank you. Yeah, I love denim.
Jill Dunn
Yeah. Okay. And our last one. This is gonna seem random. Lily, as the next contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
Lily Reinhart
Absolutely not.
Jill Dunn
That's forbidden.
Lily Reinhart
It doesn't. It's the most forbidden thing that could ever happen to anyone.
Carlene Higgins
Do you ever watch it? No, I just watched the clips on TikTok.
Lily Reinhart
I have seen a few of like the dancers on there making tiktoks. I just. I can't dance and I don't. That. That is my worst nightmare.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
I read that you were. That you took dance lessons as a child.
Lily Reinhart
Yes. And I. A lot of them. And I don't know why anyone encouraged me to do so. I was so bad at it. I was so bad at it. It was. It's horrible. Like, they would give me like you'd get like a DVD of the full two hour dance recital. I wasn't in it for two hours, but like my one little three minute song is in there. I'm like, what the hell is going on on that stage? Why did anyone let me do this? But I was a kid, so it's fine. But no, I had to dance on Riverdale and I. At one point I was texting our shows our creator Roberto and saying, please, please, I can't do. I. Please. Like, I really. Sometimes I would put my foot down and be like, I'm actually not dancing in this. But because everyone else was like a great dancer somehow. Yeah, not me. Nope. Yeah.
Jill Dunn
